Ive been trying to install windows xp for 5 hours. Been on the phone with tech support for 4. they didnt give me any answers..
Im tired of vista. It stinks (<--- -_-). When I try to install xp get the blue screen of death (which seems to be common) but idk what I should do?
I know I can go to bios and set it to compatibility mode but Im not sure if I will get any performance decreases? ) Will I?)
I called tech support and they gave me links to SATA drivers... but the freaking SATA drivers where for Intel!!!! (Im running AMD Turion) I know theres a program called nLite that I can put the drivers into my windows install but I dont have the drivers to install. I know there are probably a billion threads like this but I couldnt find anything the pertatins to me

Toshiba Satellite L305d-s5881 AMD Turion 2ghz

Hello
As I can see you have an US notebook model. I have checked Toshiba US download page and as I can see there are not so many drivers for WXP available and your notebook is not fully WXP supported. So when you install WXP you will have problem to find all necessary drivers.
There is no chipset or display driver. Common drivers are missing and I really don't know what you can do about it. Of course you can try to install such drivers from European page and hope they will work properly.
Check http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads and choose Satellite L300D.
There you can find all available WXP drivers. As I wrote before I hope you can use them. I don't have experience with US models.
How to find SATA driver please check http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=167507
Bye and good luck.

I have recently installed windows 7 and all of a sudden yesterday my touchpad did not work.
I was not able to move my mouse arrow at all.
I had to purchase a wireless mouse so I could use my laptop.
When I press the fn key plus f9 nothing happens to see if it is enabled or disabled.
    I have a satellite l305d-s5881
    thanks for your help

    Hi mate
The Satellite L305D-S5881 belongs to the Toshiba US series and has been released for US market.
You will need to visit the Toshiba US driver page in order to get all drivers.
To get the touchpad working, you will need to install the Touchpad driver.
Furthermore the FN buttons are controlled by VAP (value added package) and Flash Card Support Utility.
You need to install both; firstly VAP and then Flash Cards.

  • Satellite L305D-S5881 scratches and hazing on surface.

    Hi,
the model of my lap top is an Satellite L305D-S5881. I had accidentally scratched the surface of the area near the keyboard of my lap top and it is very visible. So i did some research on how to remove the scratch. One website said to use tooth paste on the scratch to remove it, so i did. Unfortunately, it got even worse. Now, the one scratch is surrounded with lots of mini scratches which i think you call hazing and it looks horrible. My question is,
"Is it possible to buy a new lap top case not a protective case or a bag what i mean is the part that covers and protects the harddrive, etc.."
and if not possible, "Does anyone know how to remove hazing or scratches off the computer surface NOT the screen? Is it possible to use a car buff to remove the hazing or scratches? How about an All purpose scratch remover?"
    Thanks!

    > "Is it possible to buy a new laptop case not a protective case or a bag what i mean is the part that covers and protects the harddrive, etc."
Do you mean the upper and lower notebook plastic covers?
I think you can purchase such parts only from the authorized service provider in your country! The parts must be ordered from the Toshiba
    > Does anyone know how to remove hazing or scratches off the computer surface NOT the screen?
I doubt this is possible because I think that the scratches are on the plastic cover and you cannot repolish the plastic surface.
Maybe it would be possible to furbish and to revarnish the full surface but this would mean that you would have to disassemble the whole notebook and this would cancel your warranty.
I think the best solution is to contact the ASP technician who could replace the scratched plastic cover.

  • Palm 755P (Sprint) not synchronizing with new Toshiba Satellite L305D operatig Windows Vista.

OK Please help the new guy....
I have a Treo that is a month old. It was previously synchronized with my old computer. My old computer took the dive. I bought a new Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5938t aht is running Windows Vista.
I tried to locate the Palm Desktop via the disk in the Treo box from Sprint. No dice. The Desktop loaded, but I can't synchronize my Treo. There is no available USB connection.
So, I played around with it and tried to get it to connect via bluetooth.... NO DICE.
    Very frustrating.....
Does anyone have any advise at all?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Anybody out there have a solution?
Has anybody beside me encountered this problem too?
    Please advise.....

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums.  My first assumption is your Vista is a 64bit version.  That being the case there are no usb drivers available which is the reason for the problem trying to sync via cable.  You are headed in the right direction as bluetooth is the only way your going to sync.  First the computer has to be bluetooth compatible or you need to purchase a bluetooth dongle and get it installed and then get the two to pair.  From there if you go the the windows hotsync thread here you will find a sticky that explains the process.  Also here is a knowledge base article about how to sync via bluetooth.  http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/nua/launchKB.asp?c=41559

  • Satellite L305D-S5892 - Windows has encountered a problem

    Hello,
    I have a I have a Toshiba-L305D-S5892
    With Vista Home Prem. 32
I have a few problems and am currently stuck.
Each Probelm listed below, is a problem I encountered after following some proper steps.
    *The 1st Problem*
Just a few hours ago my screen was frozen right after I tried to install this microsoft codec, so the only option I had was to do a hard reset.
When my computer turned back on, I got this message:
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be cause by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external usb drive while the device is in use or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/0 error has occurred.
I didn't have any usb device or removable media in.
I can only access my Set up Utility at start up, which has this menu: Main-Advanced-Display-Security- Boot - Exit
    *2nd Problem*
I opened up my laptop and took out the CD/DVD+RW, booted it back up and now the I get this message:
    For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v1.07
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable.
    PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
    *3rd Probelm*
I downloaded the repair Cd from NEOSMART.
Once I am at the System Recovery Options, it tells me to pick a operating system. However there is non listed. So I press load drivers, then a message tells me to insert media and select the drivers. I pres "ok", then am taken to explorer, when there are Files( all empty) and a few System files?
    I am confused....any help?

    Hello
It is pretty complicated to communicate with you and you mix several problems so I think it is important to continue this discussion step by step.
    I
HDD! if the HDD is not recognized and listed in BIOS settings it can be serious problem. At first it can be because of defective HDD but it can also be because of defective HDD controller. OK, HDD replacement is not so problematic and you can do this alone. I don't know which HDD you found on eBay but I recommend you to remove HDD from notebook and buy the same one. So you will be sure you have right HDD.
If the controller is defective, you have big problem and you must contact ASP (Authorized service provider).
    II
I don't know what NEOSMART is and what kind of image you can find there. If you don't have original recovery disc you have two options:
-to order new one from Toshiba directly > https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx > but you must pay for it
-use Microsoft installation disc for Vista installation. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

  • HELP! L305D-S5881 shuts down while playing

I bought a satellite L305D-S5881 about a year ago. It never malfunction or anything. About a month ago I was playing Heroes of Might&Magic Dark Messiah when it suddenly shut down. When I turn it back on, just before windows loads it shut down again. I unplugged de laptop, waited a couple of minutes, and worked perfectly.I didn't pay much attention, I wasn't able to play again for work issues, the computer seemed to work just fine, it remained on for days and nothing happened. Yesterday I tried a couple of games, knights of the old republic and king's bounty and it did exactly the same thing. About five minutes after i start to play, the computer crashes. It shuts down, if i want to start it right away, same thing, before windows loads. Wait a couple of minutes, and it just works perfectly.
I've tried another game, mass effect 2, and it work just fine, the computer doesn't crash.
I don't have the slightest idea what it's happening, and i'll be very gratefull if someone could help me.

See my post, about the same issue, here: http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/t5/General-Technology/Satellite-A205-intermittently-turning-off/td-p...
The reason it starts back up after waiting a few minutes, I've read in other forums, is there is like a "safety" power surge protector which gets tripped when a surge happens. You wait a few minutes for that to reset and the laptop will turn back on. When you tax the system it tries to draw more power and a surge happens again. This is likely due to a bad AC adapter (which can be cheaply replaced), or something internal (bad solder on the motherboard, loose wire connections).

  • Deleted my microphone on L305D-S5881

A few weeks back, my toshiba satellite L305D S5881 was having some issues, so I decided to try and clean out (uninstall) a few things so that it would run better, but I somehow managed to delete my microphone.  I realized when I tried to use my yahoo & skype instant messaging, that I could hear people on cam but they couldn't hear me.   Thanx, Mario V.
    [moderator edit to change subject]

I am not sure what you mean by deleting microphone. If you are saying that the sound recorder program is missing, you can try the following command:
    %SystemRoot%\system32\SoundRecorder.exe
    I am an HP employee.

  • Start up window blank at start up Satellite L305D-S5900

Hello, I have a problem on Windows start up. When you turn the laptop on, first I can't seem to get rid of the boot manager screen on start up. Then when everything loads, you go to the lower left corner to open start up where your control panel and search window is  and it blinks on then goes blank, when I say blank the box is there but the contents is missing and the search window fills up with lines like this in the search box   ////////////////////////////////. The only way to get rid of this is back space then left double click then reopen the start window then everything is okay.  I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I had to replace my hard drive it crashed and this started after the new hard drive was installed. The hard drive is a WD. Thanks for any help.

Please keep your discussion in one thread, Bryan. Let's use this one.
I can't seem to get rid of the boot manager screen on start up.
I don't know what you mean by the Boot Manager screen.
I had to replace my hard drive..
So you restored the hard drive's contents from where?

  • Satellite L305D S5895: Win 7 can't find HDD or can't format HDD on clean install

I have a customer's Satellite L305D S5895 laptop. This was shipped to me by the customer who tried to install Windows XP Pro, Vista and none would install.
He said he tried all installation CDs he had and finally gave up on it and shipped it to me.
When I got it the partition were deleted so I tried to install Win 7 and when I do doing a custom install I get an error saying the hard drive can't be formatted on disk 0 or it will give an error that no hard drives were found.
I reset the bios to default and no matter what I do it won't format or find the harddrive. I was going to upgrade the bios but the only way I found to upgrade the bios is after windows is installed.
Anyone got any ideas on this laptop so I can get a system installed. I checked the bios and there is no settings for a sata drive, raid drive or IDE drive so it looks like this version can't be changed.
Thanks for anyone who can help.
    Rick

The upgrade instructions do not help, I am not doing a upgrade but a clean install and the Toshiba Software Installer for Windows 7 doesn't look like it will work because it is an .exe file and with no operating system I don't see how it can run but I can't find instructions on how to use the installer
I've tried running tests on the drive to see if it is bad or going bad but after trying about 4 different programs and all having the same results I think the drive may be bad.
All diag programs I've tried boot the computer and show "STARTING PC DOS" and they all stop at that point which I guess is an indication the drive is bad because they can't seem to find it, not sure just guessing as to why all stop at this point.
I've tried SeaTools and Hitachi Drive Fitness Test and a few others only to have them all stop at "STARTING PC DOS"

  • Re: Satellite Pro C50 - Can't install Windows 8

    Hi.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro c50 with Windows 7 preinstalled.
It comes with 2 DVD's containing Windows 8.
I have tried to upgrade to Windows 8 (following the instructions included in the manual: BIOS changes, etc) but I cant install it.
After booting from the DVD, it doesnt appear the Windows 8 install utility, but the Windows 7 recovery options .
    Could you please help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sergio

    Exactly the same problem.
    Toshiba Portege R-930.
Comes with Win 7 preinstalled and 2 CDs with image of Win 8 (Win 8 sticker on bottom of the laptop).
Followed the directions in the leaflet to upgrade to Win 8 (change in BIOS, etc.) like the user above.
It gets only to a blue screen with two options:
    1) Toshiba recovery - a frightening black screen with warning that every data will be lost) and
    2) System recovery, getting nowhere but to "switch off computer".
At one point got the message that the disc is locked.
Gave up, returned safely to Win 7.
If someone could explain how to do this properly,
    Thanks

  • Bluetooth troubleshooting for toshiba satellite L305D-S5892

i can not get my laptop to sync up with my new cell phone (nokia 7510).
i could get it to sync up with my past cell phones with no problem.
it is not the cell phone, because i can sync it with my husbands phone.
i have tried to install drivers from the toshiba web site(when i do that, it wants me to "plug in bluetooth device and press ok"--well i don't know what that means!! so i plug in the bluetooth usb i have from another software and it doesn't work.)
i tried my bluetooth software with bluetooth usb attachment(IOGEAR model#GBU221) that works with previous cell phones (including my husbands cell phone) and my laptop. i contacted the softwares customer support and they don't know what the problem is!! i still can not get them(my new phone and laptop) to recognize each other.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Satellite L305D-S5892
That model may or may not have a recovery partition. If Windows runs, you can check it out this way.
1.46GB partition and other small partition are for the System Recovery Options and the factory softw...
    Look for a third partition.

  • Satellite L305D-S593 - Disk read error

My Toshiba Satellite L305D-S593 has suddenly shut off. At first I thought it had just over heated or something, but when I tried to turn back on it gave me a message saying disk read error press ctrl alt dlt to restart. I did multiple time to the same effect. So then I tried reinstalling windows I got lucky if it showed the installation screen once it did I followed the instructions for a clean install (I had to do this once before but for different reasons).
Once it brought me to menu were I select a partition to install on I told it to do it on the main HDD after that and some loading time it told it was unable to complete the formatting required. So I redid the process and I noticed the the partition said it had 288GB of memory available but before this I only had about 40. So instead I clicked the format button and it said it could not complete the action because the disk is about to fail.
P.S. My processer is a 64 bit AMD Turion dual core mobile processor, with 4GB of RAM

    Hey,
In my opinion it has something to do with HDD itself I assume its a defective sector if Windows installation cant format the HDD properly. I mean before you tried reinstalling Windows the system could not start due to a disk read error. This would mean the files on HDD are muddled up due defective sectors
Can you install Windows from Toshiba recovery disk?
If it doesnt work too I would try to replace the HDD. Usually this is not complicated and can be done in 5 minutes.
Furthermore you can check the HDD for errors with special diagnostic tools like Drive Fitness Test. Google a little bit for such tools, they are freeware so its no problem to find them. ;)

  • Satellite L305D-S5892 - Frame rate is low and YouTube videos get stuck

Well here is the deal I had some problems with my Satellite l305d-s5892 so I ended up using a Windows Vista copy to format it so I can use it again.
But I play world of warcraft and the frame rate is much lower now so im guessing that there are some configurations or something missing. I mean I can get the drivers and all from the website and I got the video drivers installed. Ik I dont kwnnowo if there are some other relevants drivers I have to put or something and some thng else you tube videos get momentary stuck every now and then but the sound keeps going and then the videos just catch up whit the sound.
If some one can help me or knows a beginers guide so I can properly configure my lap top I would realy aprciate ir thanks

    Hello
As Akuma said can you notice yellow exclamation marks in device manager?
Its also important that you install the chipset driver and all other drives and not only the display driver. All what you need you can find on the Toshiba website.
    Check this!!!
Furthermore make sure that you have all Windows updates installed.
Alternative you can use the Toshiba recovery disk. It contains already all drivers for your system and you can get back factory settings in few minutes. :)

  • Satellite L305D-S5934 - After XP installation nothing works

I recently had an error with my Satellite L305D-S5934, it was running vista. It wouldn't wouldnt start up so I had to install Windows XP, but now nothing works.
Is there something i can do to get the video graphics back to normal and wifi and everything that was factory on the laptop?

    Hi drftking23,
    > but now nothing works.
    Wow, very detailed! :D
Anyway, I think the problem is that you need drivers for your hardware so WLAN, LAN and all other devices dont work.
Everything what you need you can download on Toshiba US page where you can find your notebook model:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com
But let me give you a word of advice: Just use the Toshiba recovery disk where all drivers and tools are preinstalled. This disk contains a ready image of factory settings with all drivers and tools, its pretested and configured by Toshiba.
    Maybe its an option ;)

  • Satellite L305d reformat

Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite L305d S5895 that came with Windows Vista. As I recall, it did not come with a reformat disc. I looked to see if I could make one on my laptop, or push something at startup to restore it to factory settings, but I had no success.
I was hoping that someone could tell me how I could reformat it entirely and remove all data from it. I want to start over fresh and new. My family has downloaded too much on it, and given it viruses, so now its performance is lacking.
I am willing to do anything other than pay to reformat or restore it to factory settings. I refuse to pay and put money down on something that I already own. I do not wish to purchase the same OS that I am running on. My funds are not in the right place to do that at the moment.
Again, any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

It either came with a hard drive based recovery system or it came with recovery disks.  If it has a hdd based recovery system you would invoke it by holding down the 0 (zero) key while powering on the system.  See these support documents for details on how this works and how to determine if your system shipped with this option.
    http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/PMA500339010_web.pdf
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?ref=EV&soid=2222431&ct=SB
If this option is not available then you need to figure out what you did with the recovery disks it shipped with.  If you've lost them or threw them away (you would be surprised how many people do this) then you can order a replacement set of recovery disks by following the info in this post.
Your other options would be to purchase a WIndows 7 upgrade disk or, if money is tight download a free Linux distribution and install it.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.
