Satellite Pro C650 - Maximize the battery life

Hi there,
I'd like to maximize the Toshiba battery life. I read the user's manual. Following the instructions the PC hybernates when the battery level is still 3%.I tried to change the Critical Battery Level but it doesn't allow below the 3%.
What should I do to discharge completely the battery?
Thanks in advance.
m.

Hey,
I think everything is clear now?!
Discharged battery means if the notebook shuts down itself or with other words it goes automatically in hibernation mode and standard value is 3%. So if it goes in hibernation mode due critical battery level its discharged and you can connect the AC/DC adaptor to charge it.
By the way: I have always the AC/DC adaptor connected and after 2 years the battery is still working on battery mode. Battery life time is still ok.

  • How do I maximize the battery life for my iPod touch?

    Hi,
I am the proud new owner of an iPod 5th generation. My question is how can I maximize the batteries lifetime? Is there a certain percentage the battery should stay in between  Should it be plugged in whenever possible, does that circumvent the battery and just keeps it alive until taken out, and then switches back to using the battery?
Anyway, any tips would be helpful. I already keep all features off that I don't need, such as bluetooth, messages, facetime etc.
    Thanks, GreatAndRandom

Installation of the new OSX is very heavy hdd load, in addition spotlight reindexes all the files on your computer - it may be a few hours. If in the future will be the same macbook hot, you should contact your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider.
May be required to clean notebook cooling system.
You can also install any monitoring utility sensors to your mac  such as Hardware Monitor  and look at the value of the temperature sensors.

MacBook Pro just shut down without notice. It had about 40% of the battery life. It will not turn back on and I noticed when plugged in the little light on the power cord is blinking orange, not a solid green like normal.  Anyone have this issue before?  I've only had this for about 3mos.  I called apple support. They tried one thing then said I have to take to the apple store. Unfortunately I don't have one nearby. So before I travel an hour+ away I thought is give it a shot on here. Thank.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It is a good idea to run the new MBP through several calibration cycles, instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
The calibration helps your computer know when the battery really is low, otherwise it will keep more charge available than it needs to when it shuts down so that it doesn't have to shut off after going to sleep.
Here's another article about helping the MBP last longer when running on battery:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3557
Apple says this about their battery life claims:
    About Apple battery life claims
Published battery life is based on a light duty test that involves wirelessly browsing various websites and editing text in a word processing document with display brightness set to the middle setting.
The more intensive the usage of a computer, the faster the battery will drain. For example, while a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) used as described above can get up to 9 Hours of battery life, the same MacBook Pro computer continuously playing DVD movies with the display set to full brightness will drain the battery more quickly.
Hopefully this will help you get more enjoyment out of your computer.
    Best wishes. Joel.

  • Satellite Pro C650, Boots OK, after Windows starts up the screen goes white

    Hi,
    I have a Satellite Pro C650.
    It boot fine.
I can see Windows starting up - after startup - the screen goes completely white.
    Has anyone seen this?
Am geussing it might be a loose display connection - but I the screen displays the startup sequence and initial windows startup.
    Regards,
    eeiddne

    Hi
I dont think your display is faulty.
What happens if you access the BIOS at the beginning?
To access the BIOS press F2 while powering on the unit.
Access the BIOS and keep it running for some minutes and check if the display will turn to white.
Additionally its advisable to connect an external monitor and to output the display to the 2nd screen. If the 2nd screen would not be OK, then the graphic chip might be the troublemaker.

  • Why is the battery life of my brand new Macbook Pro 15 inch only 3 hours 40 minutes on a full charge?

Only thing running on it is Chrome, and the battery life is only 3:38. Am I doing anything wrong?

It also depends upon what you are doing on Chrome.  Video and flash will eat up battery life.  You are probably doing nothing wrong.
You might open Activity Monitor and see what applications are taking a lot of CPU%.  Make certain that you have selected 'All Processes".
    Ciao.

  • I just got a brand new 13" Macbook pro with Lion and the battery life is terrible. i just got a brand new macbook pro 13in a few weeks ago and everything is fine except the battery life is terrible!

i have seen many other threads about this, but i just want to know if anyone has found a fix that actually works? or do i just need to wait for apple to send a fix in their next update?

Suppose you elaborate on what you are doing with the MBP that makes the battery life terrible.

  • My Satellite Pro C650 doesn't start or charge

    Hi,
    can someone please help me?!
I just purchased my Toshiba Satellite Pro C650.
Charged it for 16 hours, set it up and after restarting it went off and now it doesn't turn on of charge at all.

    Hi
Remove the batter and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Then wait some hours and connected both parts to the notebook again.
Then try to power up the unit.
If this will not help you, then I would recommend asking a notebook technician for an check. If there is no sign of life, then a serious hardware problem might be possible.

  • A1281 is the battery i got for my 15inch MBP. Is the battery life only 2 - 3 hours for a new battery on this device.

A1281 is the battery i got for my 15inch MBP. Is the battery life only 2 - 3 hours for a new battery on this device.
    This is from Apple.
2 to 3 hours seems very low.
what is teh standard or advertised spec for a 15 inch Macbook Pro with this battery.
I would like to know so that i can return it if this is not normal.
Its expensive so comments would be appreciated.

I say it depends on your model? average usage is about 3-4 hours depending on what you use and how you use it. Adobe Flash player eats a lot of battery power so if you are on a web page and has flash player, likely that it's eating up battery because of it's power thirsty.
Also check your systems activity monitor. It could be possible that one of your program/apps did not close right and may be still running. So check for that and end the process if necessary.
If you have a backlight keyboard, in a broad daylight, it's not necessary to have it on.
I also suggest that you use it plugged in most of the time, and it's not going to hurt or damage the battery if you have it plugged in all the time. Only use on battery if you are going to places that has no access to the outlet. If you are at home, then keep it plugged in. Just keep in mind to fully drain the battery until it your MBP turns off on it's own. This is the calibration process so that you have the most accurate battery readings.
The standard for 2011 MBP is 7 hours on battery. Before that model is 10 hours, but i don't believe that previous models will last 10 hours. Last week I calibrated my battery readings from fully charged and it took 9 hours to completely drain out the battery (I have a 2011 model),
If you think it's not normal and that your battery doesn't meet your expectation then set up an appointment with the genius bar and have them test the battery. They will determine whether it is faulty or not.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch battery life on Yosemite

Has anyone noticed impact on the battery after upgrading to Yosemite? I found only one article online that talks about the impact. I followed the instructions but still the battery life did not improve. I'm running MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013, 15-inch, 2.6GHz Core i-7, 16GB RAM.
I think that I should be getting more than 8h of life when fully charged.
Link to article on iMore.com: http://www.imore.com/how-resolve-battery-life-troubles-your-retina-macbook-pro

So here is an update: I've followed the article posted by OGELTHORPE (Thank you!). What I actually did is 1. Reset the SMC and 2. Reset the PRAM (MacBook Air SMC and PRAM reset).
What I've seen so far: Once I did the reset, I would guess that the system needed to re-calcualte again the battery charge. Initially after I disconnected from power, it started with a measurement from under 3:30h. After 45 minutes running on battery it is showing again 8:45h remaining  @ 93% charge. What I noticed is that every time I put the laptop to sleep this repeats - starting with some low time measurement and slowly climbing. I think that this could be a bug in the software and the battery charge calculation method is somehow not working properly. I wonder after those resets if the OS needs to get into a couple of battery charge cycles and the battery is calibrated again?
I don't recall having this issue with the last year's release of Mavericks.
I hope someone from Apple sees this and address this with the next OS X update.

If a restore did not fix it, you have a hardware issue--possible bad wi-fi radio.

  • How to Maximize Helix Battery life (?)

The Helix specs claim up to 10 hours combined battery life (with the tablet attached to the dock) however, according to the Windows battery status indicator in the system tray, my new Helix is only claiming up to 6 hours or so (even with the PC set to "power saver" and the tablet in airplane mode).
Is it typical for other Helix users to fall short of the claimed battery life? Are there other ways to set the power consumption to more conservative settings and achieve (close to) 10 hours?  I'd like not to sacrifice performance too much, but hope to extend the travel time of the pc w/our recharging.  Thanks.

    Hi buddy,
You can maximize the batter life if you always remove the battery if you dont need e. g. at home where you can work with AC/DC adaptor.
Furthermore the battery should always be fully charged and only be charged if its empty.
By the way, I found a very interesting article for you in FAQ section:

  • 8gb upgrade = half the battery life?

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro 15" i7. I had no complains about it. Everything delivered just fine, including the battery, which would hold out for the promised 8 hours and even more.
At the very moment that I upgraded my RAM to 8gb, my battery went nuts. Eve in the best of circumstances (only one bar on the display brightness setting, wi-fi and BT turned off, and no apps opened other then text edit), my battery will only last about 4 hours.
the RAM is great quality, CRUCIAL, bought it off B&H.
Anyone has any idea what's going on?

Hi, I have a 2011 MBP 2.0Ghz i7 Quad core. I purchased it with 4 gig of RAM and have just upgraded it to 8 gig. This has also resulted in a halving of the battery life, down to a max of 4 hours.
The RAM is also direct from Crucial.
Rodd; did you find a solution to your problem, ie was jason correct in saying the RAM is faulty?
    Thanks
