Satellite Pro P300 heating to the point of burning

My laptop is getting so hot underneath that its burning my leg. Any ideas whats the best option for this?
I can still hear the fan working but I can't think of what it could be.

To be honest I dont know what are you doing with your notebook and why your notebook is placed on your leg/legs. Is it really comfortable for usage? ;)
Anyway, I presume you like to use your notebook on the sofa or elsewhere using WLAN connection. Am I right about that?
I dont think you will burn your leg but what can happen is that you will burn notebooks mainboard.
Satellite P300 is big 17 notebook with powerful hardware that needs to be cooled down properly.
I can imagine that your leg blocks cooling vent at the bottom and hardware temperature reach critical level pretty fast and you can feel it on your leg.
In my opinion there is no reason for panic. All you must do is to take care about your little toy and use it on proper way.
Bye

  • Satellite Pro P300 - unable to activate the inbuilt microphone

I purchased a Satellite Pro P300 some 2 months ago and to date all is well.
It has a webcam which I really thought I would not have any use for it but now find that I have.
The camera works fine but I am unable to activate the inbuilt microphone.
Can someone point me in the right direction please

    Hi
You have to start the webcam software if you want to use the internal mic too.
The point is that the internal microphone is connected with the internal webcam and the webcam software controls the both devices.
Please check also if the internal mic was enabled in the webcamsoftware correctly
Furthermore I would recommend updating the sound driver.
    Best regards

  • Satellite Pro P300 - How to obtain the factory image without media?

    Hello
I have been given a Satellite Pro P300 and it has the recovery disc for win xp, I would like to go back to the pre installed Vista intallation if possible.
The recover partition on the hard drive isnt available so i assume it cant be recovered. Is it possible to purchase a factory image?

Liam is right Win 7 is better than Vista OS.
So if you have a possibility to install Win 7 I recommend doing this instead of Vista.
However, the Toshiba recovery disk contain just Vista OS.

  • Satellite Pro P300-26U - Can I use a second HDD?

Satellite P300 family support raid0 and double HDD. All model? User manual of 26U don't say any word about this. Model like P300-1BP has double HDD.
Can someone help me? I want to buy a P300-26U in Italy.
    Thanks.
    Guido

    Hi
The Satellite P300 series doesnt support RAID!
There is NO RAID controller on the motherboard.
But you are right; the Satellite Pro P300-BP supports 2 HDDs but this does not meant that it would support RAID!
Furthermore you should know that P300 series supports different hardware specifications.
This means that not all P300 would be able to use 2 HDDs!!!
It could be possible that Satellite Pro P300-26U is not able to use 2 HDDs even though the Satellite Pro P300-BP support 2 HDDs.

  • Satellite Pro P300 has just died on me

    Hi,
Yesterday my Satellite Pro P300 (PSPC1E) simply died on me...no battery charging lights nothing. Nothing happens when I press the ON button it is DEAD.
The battery was ok last time used, the adapter is still giving me nearly 20volts.
I took the laptop apart to check the DC in connector, thats ok.
I assume after some research its a motherboard fault. Typically my warranty ran out 2 months ago!!
Cost of a new replacement motherboard so far quoted is 180, not too eager to spend that as I have a tax bill to pay at the end of this month!
Any ideas to what the problem could be?
I have found a mobo on eBay which is a p300-1a8 going for a song but would that be compatible?
What are all the variations in the motherboards?
Would any other motherboard be compatible?
Any ideas, suggestions would be much appreciated and I thank anyone in advance for any ideas.
    Cheers
    Steve

    Yes and no.
You can also imagine that different P300 notebooks have also different ports. Some of them have HDMI some probably not. There is also the difference.
Different ports, different processor or different graphic card. Maybe some models don't have even webcam and missing controller on motherboard.
So, if you want to have identical hardware configuration please be sure you use motherboard with the same model number.

  • Satellite Pro P300 - HDMI output port doesn't fit

    Hello All,
Well this is starting to drive me to distraction and Im hoping theres someone who can put me out my missery lol.
I have been trying to hook my laptop (toshiba satellite pro p300) up to my LCD TV via the same HDMI cable I use for my PS3 but the connector just wont fit. I keep finding all these posts in various forums saying how they cant get sound out the HDMI connection...that would be great, as at least that means they have them connected.
Are there different connections for HDMI? The one I have is diagonal connector but the port on the laptop is more square, and just doesnt fit. So if there isnt a connector, does that mean I have a funky port, on the laptop.
There is also the matter of connection my laptop to my amp that controls the surround sound system. What connection is best to use, as there is no real audio out connections?
    Cheers

    Hi
Can you please tell us what Satellite Pro P300 you have exactly? I mean the exact model number.
Maybe you can also post a picture of the HDMI port. Normally there are no different HDMI ports, all have the same physical dimension.
Im not PS3 owner but maybe it has a special connector. Have you tried another cable?
Regarding the audio connection I use the normal line out port for my external speakers. Did you test this?

  • Satellite Pro P300-1CG wakes up from sleep mode when unplug USB mouse

I often transport my laptop from one working place to another.
Usually put it into sleep mode, unplug the USB mouse and lay in the bag.
However every time I unplug the USB mouse - the laptop wakes up and I have to put it into sleep again.
This is annoying. Is there any way to set up laptop _not_ to wake up on USB activity?
I didn't find any option in power settings of Vista, neither in BIOS.
My BIOS is up to date (just updated, but didn't help).
I use Windows Vista Business on Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-1CG.

    Hi
    > Usually put it into sleep mode, unplug the USB mouse and lay in the bag.
Why you dont unplug the USB mouse firstly and then put the notebook into the sleep mode?
This would solve your issue ;)
From my knowledge the BIOS provides only the options: Wake-up on keyboard and Wake up on LAN.
There are no options for Wake up on USB and therefore such settings cannot be changed...
    Cheers

  • Satellite Pro P300 (PSPC5E) - Webcam driver open fail on Windows 7

I've installed the RC of Windows 7 64 Bit on my Satellite Pro P300-PSPC5E and I'm experiencing problems with the configuration of my webcam and microphone.
I've tried to install the camera assistant software, 64-bit (windows vista) to configure the webcam but I keep getting an error with 'Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer.' neither of a camera or computer restart work. I do get picture in Skype but I can not edit settings or so (dark picture) and the microphone is way more silent then it was on windows XP, although it's set on the maximum sound.
Is there a solution for this problem? I hope so :)

    Hi
I think there is no solution for this problem at the moment because you are using a Release Candidate of Windows 7 and at the moment there are no official drivers for Windows 7 available.
You have already tried the Windows Vista driver so thats all what you can do. Alternative you visit the Toshiba US page (http://www.csd.toshiba.com) and search for Windows 7 beta driver. Maybe it works.
    Good luck! :)

  • Recovery CD for XP in combination with dual HDD on Satellite Pro P300

On my Satellite Pro P300 there are two harddisks, both 160 GB.
At the moment Windows Vista Business is installed, as it was preinstalled.
On the first disk there are 3 partitions, one EISA-partition, one Vista boot-partition and one partition for HHDRecovery (contains image for Vista Product Recovery).
In Vista there is an option for Complete PC Backup. This provides the possibility to completely restore Vista to the situation at the time of the backup.
I made a Full PC Backup of the complete first hard drive (3 partitions) and saved it on the second harddrive.
Now I want to use the provided Toshiba Product Recovery for Windows XP to install Windows XP on the laptop.
I assume that the first harddrive will be completely overwritten, but I am not sure if the second drive will also be overwritten.
Does anybody know if my data on the second drive will be lost when i use the Product Recovery for XP?
I would like to preserve the data on the second drive, because it gives me the option to restore the laptop to the situation with Vista without reinstalling/activating all applications.
Also all my personal files are on that drive.

Normally it would be no problem to temporarily remove the second harddisk.
But I am not sure if my warranty will be void after that; the machine is only a few weeks old.
If the warranty is still valid after removing and reinstalling the second harddisk, I will try that option.
I just wonder if anybody knows for a fact that it does not write the second harddisk.
As you said, I also assume that it will not write the second harddisk, but I just want to be sure.

  • Satellite Pro A300D - What is the model number for the keyboard?

My husband managed to dislodge a keycap on my keyboard, and broke the white scissor clip that holds hit on...(don't ask me how)
He spoke to the authorised service centre here in Norway, and they sent us replacement scissor clips (actually they sent an old non-functioning keyboard) but the clips are of a different design to the ones on my laptop.
I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the model/serial number of the keyboard used in the Satellite Pro A300D-151 (PSAK9E) so I can get the correct replacement part.
I really don't want to have to replace the whole keyboard when it's just 1 of the scissor clips that is broken...the laptop is only 5 months old.
Here are some photos of the scissor clip in question & the where it attaches to the keyboard (sorry about the quality)

    notsure

    Hi
Sorry buddy but its not possible to exchange some single keys on a keyboard so in this case you must replace the complete keyboard. But normally this should not be so difficult.
Either you exchange the keyboard yourself or you sent the notebook to the authorized service provider.
The model number for the keyboard is not known to me but contact your ASP!! They can order all Toshiba parts and they should know the right part number.
    Bye

  • Satellite Pro P100: What is the Toshiba part number for a 2GB memory module

Unable to find any way of emailing this question so I have posted it on the forum. Sure this info should be more readily available without having to ask.
What is the Toshiba part number for a 2GB memory module for a PSPA4E-00F007. That's for a Satellite Pro P100 T2400
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&BV_UseBVCook ie=yes&PRODUCT_ID=115421
Crucial Memory gives me this module - is that correct?
    http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=A332E10BA5CA7304
Found this via Kingstons site - is this also correct?
    http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?QuickLinx=4P3V
Would really appreciate some official clarification here.
    Many Thanks

It must be PA3513U-1M2G. You must check if this module is compatible with your notebook model. I think so.
Anyway I recommend you to buy high quality product like Kingston modules.

  • Satellite Pro P300 - After Truesuite update I can't open protected files

    Hi,
sorry for my bad english but I came from Italy and here we don't have any forum who can resolve my problem.
I've got a Toshiba Laptop pro P300 with fingerprint reader. I use fingerprint to logon and protect some files, just for curiosity, it seemed cool...:|
The problem born when I recently update "truesuite access manager". Since I did the update I can't open protected files, I didn't read that I have to remove the protection before the updating (damn...), but these files are important for me and I have to open them again.
To resolve the problem at first I restore the system before the date of the update, to have the old version and open these files again, but all my fingerprints are deleted and I can't create new fingerprints because the pc says that it "can't open the sensor". I don't know what it means.
I thought that it needs some drivers, so I reinstalled truesuite access manager several times, I reinstalled BIOS, I've done the scan disk and the toshiba diagnostic, but the sensor still doesn't work.
I think that if I can save a fingerprint with the old version of the program I will able to open protected files again (and I will not protect them anymore) because only the old version of the program knows how to decrypt these files, but I don't know how to turn the fingerprint sensor on. Someone could help me, please?
    Thank you so much!

The Truesuite update come from the Toshiba website. I can open the Truesuite program with my fingerprint but I can't decrypt files because it says that I don't have the correct "key of protection" or the "protection code keyAC 3000" of the file.

  • Satellite Pro P100: Marks on the palmrest

    Hi
I've had my Satellite Pro P100 for barely 6 months now... I've bought it from new and its had a less than average amount of use. Its always been looked after, always kept clean, always take my watch off so it doesn't scratch the surface, etc. etc. But now I've noticed marks outlining where my palms are resting.
I'd expect this of a 2nd hand laptop which gets heavy usage but I wouldn't expect this of a new one!
    http://www.nottingham.ac.uk./~cczcp1/pics/palm-rest.jpg
Anyone else had a the same problem and what's the chances of getting it sorted by Toshiba?
    Cheers for any help.

the coating is very delicate and gets marked easily so when you rest your hands on the area eventually it will leave a mark it can happen within a week of getting a new laptop or years depends on how you rest them its normal and it would not damage the running of the laptop. Nothing no one can do about it, happens eventually.

  • Satellite Pro M70 - What is the Bluetooth module part number

Could someone who has a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70, with bluetooth, tell me the part number of the bluetooth module please?
You can reed it from one of the labels under your notebook. You can read bluetooth in it, the part number is in the up left side of the label, and it will be something like this: PA3418U-BTM.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Why you dont make a call to the authorized service partner in your country and would order an compatible BT module for your notebook?
In my opinion this would be the easiest way to get one.
Unfortunately Im not owner of Sat Pro M70 and therefore I dont know the BT part number. But my A210 has been equipped with an internal BT module and the part number is PA3608U-1BTM

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - What is the maximum HDD size?

My aged Satellite Pro 4600 has a 20GB HDD. As these are now very difficult to get hold, does anyone know whether higher capacy HDDs can be used and, if so, what is the maximum size of HDD.
(In spite of it's age I still use the Satellite Pro for certain jobs.)

    Hi!
This is a pretty old notebook, Satellite Pro 4600 ;)
As far as I know this notebook has a 28bit LBA limitation and that means you can only use HDDs up to 128GB or lets say HDD with a capacity of 120GB.
By the way, here you can read more about this limitation: http://www.48bitlba.com/
Normally you can every HDD up to 120GB but dont forget that the HDD must have a IDE connector.
I have good experience with Western Digital and Seagate HDDs.
