Save As default location problem

Hi,
I have CS3 installed on a brand new Mac Pro. I have a few
sites set up in Dreamweaver. When I open a file from the file
panel, and do a "Save As" to save this file somewhere else or
change the name, the dialog keeps starting out at "Documents"
instead of where I opened the file from.
Even stranger, Clicking "Site Root" in the dialog takes me
one directory higher than my sites local root directory.
FYI, I am mounted to our linux file server via SMB. I never
experienced these issues when I was running DW on a PC. Is there a
pref somewhere Im missing on this mac version?
I have also tried re-creating my site definitions and it
doesnt seem to help.
Mike

I found a solution, though it seems less then perfect.
What I did was to zip up the folder and delete the original, after doing that functionality returned to normal. However when I unzipped the file the problem started again.
I guess i'll just keep that folder zipped until I need it.

    Whenever you try to save a PDF file to a location other than the default location ('My Documents'), Firefox freezes & you have to go to the 'Task Manager' to exit Firefox and stop the error. I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?

  • How can I get a new PDF I save to default to the current PDF location in Acrobat XI

    When I open a PDF, make edits, and then save, it defaults to the last folder where I saved a PDF.  How can I make it default to the folder where I opened the current PDF I'm working on?  Acrobat 11.0.0 in Win 7 64.

    That's not what my question was about, it's about the default location which is screwed up, but I have figured out that the problem was fixed in an update and my enterprise version of Acrobat doesn't update (go figure, they are only getting paid to supply this to 30K+ employees!)  I will mark this as done.

  • Setting a default location of the 'Save As' dialog box

    I know this is an unusual question, but I do a lot of file-naming at work with Adobe Standard and it would help me if I could set a default location of the 'Save As' dialog box -- say, by dragging it to the corner of the screen so that the next time Adobe opens, the 'Save As' box will open in that location (rather than in the center by default).
    By this, I don't mean setting a location for one session, which it does automatically, but rather setting an initial location for when Acrobat starts up.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any way of changing this back to how it used to be?

  • Changing default save/open to location from any application.

    I can't seem to find the location where i can set my files to save to opened location rather then always defaulting to my documents folder. This will apply to files being opened as well. For example when I work in an application and need to import 2o items i do not want to have to start from my documents every time it should default to the last location. If anyone can please help I am having a brain freeze on this one. thanks

  • When I try to bookmark a web page, Firefox will frequently save the bookmark to the default location, before I have finished typing the description

    To bookmark a page, I click on the BOOKMARK menu, then click on BOOKMARK THIS PAGE. I start typing the description of the page in the NAME field.
    Frequently, before I can finish typing the description, Firefox will close the popup window, saving the bookmark to the default location. At this point, I repeat the procedure to add a bookmark, finish typing the description, and specify the correct folder location.

  • Changing the default location PowerPoint uses for templates

    I do not want to use the default location MS Office initially configures for templates that is buried in some obscure folder on a local machine in that only Office know about.  Instead want to keep my templates in the same location on a company server
    with the rest of my materials so I can access it from my company laptop or from the Virtual machines I am forced to use in other company locations. This way I will have my templates everywhere I work.  When I make changes they are available to me everywhere
    I work and are not buried in a folder on a laptop or a virtual machine in a conference room half a world away.
    MS Word allows users to configure this default location for templates but no where in PowerPoint can I find any way to configure this location. Previously on my laptop I have been able to configure the default PowerPoint template location, I believe, by
    setting the location in MS Word; however, this is not happening for me now on the virtual machines I am using when away.  I have scoured the Options settings and if it is there it is well hidden.
    To make matters worse I am trying to use what PPT is providing to me while I sort this out and when you try to open "My Templates": there is a message that says:
    "To add a template to My templates, click the File tab, click Save As, click Trusted Templates, and then save the file as a template."
    Of course when I follow these instructions there is no folder named Trusted Templates on the left side of the dialog box.  I am not sure why it is so difficult to allow us to configure this ourselves for each program but apparently it is.

    Hi,
    Please refer to this kb below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924460/en-us
    As mentioned, if you use Word 2007 or Word 2010 to change the location in which your new templates are saved, you also change the location in which all 2007 Office program templates or all 2010 Office program templates are saved.
    Office programs use one registry key to record the user templates file location, you can browse to the following path to check if it's recorded:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General
    The user templates location is stored in the
    UserTemplates
    string value.
    If it doesn't exist, try to manually add it, check if this helps. Detailed information can also be found in the kb introduced above.
    Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps
    carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/en-us

  • Why can't FC save the folder locations set for render files?

    I wrongly assumed that when you go to system settings to select the scratch disks (root folder where all the audio and video render folders and files go, capture files, etc.) that Final Cut would save the folder locations within the FC project you are working in. Makes total sense, but for reasons I don't understand, FC does NOT save these folder locations and the result is that I have render files scattered all over the place on my hard drive and it is quite a mess! Fortunately, the project file remembers where it put the render files, so as long as you don't remove or rename any project folders, everything shows up rendered on the time line as it should. The problem is, if I'm working on several projects at once, I have to reset the scratch disks every time I reopen a project, otherwise the program will save it to the last scratch location selected and put all of the render files in another project's folder. I often forget to reset the scratch disks when I'm busy and now I have render files mixed up in various project folders.
    Why can't you just set the scratch disks one time when you first set up the project and have the project always remember that location, instead of always having to reset them every time you reopen a project. I love Final Cut, but this is a product defect that should be addressed and corrected. If the project file can remember where it is putting all the render files, it should also be capable of remembering the scratch disk locations you originally selected when you first set up the project or better yet, save it to the project's root folder by default. Am I missing something here?

    As MtD describes, FCP sets file locations for ALL projects at the system level.  It may help to organize things this way so your files don't end up scattered across multiple locations.
    Save the project files to your User folder on the boot drive.
    For all the other files FCP creates, set them on a non-boot drive similar to this:
    Media Drive
    ----->FCP Documents
    ---------->Autosave Vault
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ---------->Audio Render Files
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ---------->Capture Scratch
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ----------->Render Files
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ----------->Waveform Cache
    Of course, you can choose to keep renders or the Autosave Vault folder on other drives ... just keep them off your boot drive.  It may not be the way you're use to working, but it's worked well for me the past 14 years.  When you finish with a project and ready to delete the associate files, just go to your media drive and delete folders bearing the project's name.

  • How to: Resetting install location back to "Default Location..." (Windows 8)

    I recently upgraded my PC and added an SSD as my primary drive. Like most people, I also have a secondary drive for most apps and files. In the Creative Cloud App manager, I changed the Installation location to a directory on my secondary drive. The problem was, Some applications I wanted on my SSD for performance reasons and there was no way to change back to the setting "Default location..." Because CC installs both a 32 bit and 64 bit version of some applications, I wanted to make sure that it put them in the correct "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" folders. After some poking about in the config files I finally found out how to do it.
    (NOTE: The path below is for Windows 8 and possibly Windows 7, for other OS's it will likely be in a similiar path)
    Close the Adobe Creative Cloud app (File > Quit)
    Open this file in notepad: C:\Users\ExampleUser\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\com.adobe.accc.apps.....prefs
    Search through the text untill you find the install location that you set. Mine was "E:\Program Files\"
    Delete only that path (leave the <) and then save the file.
    Relaunch the Adobe Creative Cloud app
    Then check the Install Location in Preferences. It should now be set back to "Default Location..."

    For Mac OS X (Yosemite) I found you need to do the following:
    1. Quit the Creative Cloud Application in the title bar.
    2. Open Activity Monitor, find the Process named "Adobe Desktop Service". Click the stop sign icon with an "x" in it and select Quit to stop this process.
    3. Edit the file ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/com.adobe.accc.apps.....prefs
       a. Same as in the Windows case, find the line with "installLocation" and delete everything containing a file path between the following ">" and "<"
    4. Restart Adobe Creative Cloud from /Applications/Adobe Creative Cloud/Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Cannot "Save in New Location" ACR 6.3

    Hello.
    I just installed the 6.3 ACR beta in order to accomodate the Nikon D7000 I just received today and find that I'm unable to "Save in New Location" in Bridge . I'm only able to save to the original location- The SD card. I set the folder, however nothing shows in the dialog box after folder selection as it usually does.
    I am using CS5 on 32bit Vista Home Premium. Could someone please tell me if this is a bug or if I have perhaps forgotten something? Had no problems up until this 6.3 candidate. Tried also saving files from my D80 but same problem.
    Thanks!

    Hello David. Thank you very much for responding.
    To answer your questions:
    1). Yes. Mounting SD to computer via internal card reader.
    2). Yes. Navigating via Bridge.
    3). Yes selecting thumbnails on SD card images
    4). Yes. Right clicking for open in CR or double clicking to open in PS CS5.
    5). Yes clicking save image(s) button. When I do, I receive a "The file could not be created"
    meassage in the status dialog.
    6). Yes I am selecting "save to new location". Choosing the destination would always display the path
    next to "Select Folder" button afterwards but not anymore. The only option that will display the path
    is "Save in same location" which now appears to be the default.
    Yes, I have copied the files to my hard drive. I have opened both CR from Bridge as well as Bridge to PS with
    the same results. Another thing, I tried saving some Nikon D80 NEF files first thing this morning and it wouldn't
    save to new location. So it appears that this is not D7000 specific.
    I don't believe this is user error as I have processed tens of thousands of images similarly for the past few years.
    The problem started when I installed ACR 6.3RC.
    Again, thanks much for your response and any assistance you may offer.

  • "You don't have permission to save in this location." Cannot save any files anywhere. All permissions open, all other browsers save OK in same place. Why?

    I cannot save any files anywhere. I always get the message "You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the {} folder instead?"
    I have created a clean profile in Profile Manager, and used the Reset Firefox tool. The only way I can save files is to use another browser. IE and Chrome have no problems saving files to the exact same folders.
    This seemed to have started with the last update on 10/5/2013.

    Maybe something changed in the program shortcut you use to start Firefox. Can you check right-click > Properties > Compatbility tab and make sure nothing is selected there?
    ''I've never tried this myself, but the forum has a standard set of steps for a "clean reinstall" of Firefox to replace damaged program files. During this process, you are not removing personal settings, but you are removing some shared add-on folders, which would affect Windows Media Player and perhaps other plugins/extensions installed that way.''
    Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
    '''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
    #Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    #Delete (or if you're nervous, move or rename) the Firefox program folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (32-bit)
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox (64-bit)
    #*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    #*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
    #Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    Does that help?

    Captivate v5.5
    I have my default locations set as C:\AA Noel work\Adobe Projects and Cache\My Projects
    When I create a new project I save it into another folder on my C Drive (not on the network).
    What is anything should I see in the above "My Projects" folder ?
    Reason for asking is I am having a crash issue caused by "RunTime Error" and Adobe are asking me to do some testing and then send them the data that is in "My Projects"...problem is there is nothing in My Projects and so now I am wondering if my settings are wrong.
    Noel

    Noel,
    In the "My Adobe Captivate Projects" folder you would only see things there if you specifically saved something there. It's just the default folder that Captivate will show you when you click "Save" or "Save as" the first time with a new project. Otherwise it isn't used for anything.
    You should have something in the "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder though.
    I have both mine set to "C:\adobeContent" since I can't have it in my "My Documents" folder as I am on a corporate network that uses a roaming profile for my account. The cache folder gets insanely big very quickly so this would clog up my network connection when I sign in and out of my computer.
