Save before getting out

Hi,
I have an Flex based web application which has many panels.
These panels have textinput controls which is used to capture some
data. How do I prevent an user from navigating out of this panel
without saving? If the user is trying to get to a different part of
the application, and if there is unsaved data then I need to prompt
the user to save/cancel it.
I have a parent panel which acts as a place holder and I
add/remove child panels as required to display different panels. I
tried some events like remove/removed etc...Even if I am able to
detect the event, and prompt 'Do you want to save?'. If user says
Yes, then I need to save and go ahead with the work. But, if he
says No, I need to prevent the panel from being removed and retain
it. How to do this?

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

What do you mean the "update" says plug it into iTunes? If you have the iTunes logo/USB cord on the screen, it's in recovery mode or needs to be activated. Anything that was on the phone is already gone. You have no choice but to plug it into the computer. Hopefully, you backed it up before you started the update.
If that's not what you mean, then please explain.
Apple may or may not be able to fix the lock button for you without replacing the phone entirely. You'll have to take it in and ask.

Google it - there are 100s of applications that will offload your messages from your iTunes backup file that will allow you to print them out.

If I understand well yor concern...
There is no way to know if a socket is still connected without using (i.e reading /writing on) it.
That's the way it works on C API layer, so it should not be defferent in Java.
For a good understanding of how TCP/IP works, if C code is OK for you, the best are Richard Stevens books.... (IMHO)

That is very strange! Have you been able to get your apps icons back now? Have you attempted a soft reset by holding the power button and home button at the same time until the phone restarts? Keep me posted with the results!

We reset back to factory settings, we had to try a few email addresses before finding one we could use. Now it is asking to verify one of the email addresses we didn't use. How do we get out of that?

We reset back to factory settings. After a few attempts we found an email we could use to set up as Apple ID. Everything was working great. Now it has pulled up one of the email addresses we tried to use, and is trying to verify, and asking to continue to complete the set up. It gets to a certain page, and stays there, won't let us get out of the page. We shut down the iPad, but it came back to the same thing, when it restarted. What do we do to stop this?

You will need another iOS device or a computer in order to do this, but I assume that's not a problem since you are on this forum.

Updated my Ipad and now it wont get out of recovery mode.

I have an Ipad 4 and I decided to download the latest update for it.
The download is fine until i pick it up a half hour later and it shows me the recovery mode image. Basically telling me to connect to my computer.
I go to my computer and plug it in, but then my itunes says that in order to connect I have to restore my Ipad.
I very rarely connect my ipad to my computer, and since the last sync I have reinstalled Windows 7, so its essentially a new computer and doesnt recognize my ipad.
Doesnt restore reset my ipad? I have all of my notes from my classes this symester. I cant restore!
No matter what I have done the ipad wont get out of recovery mode.

A "Restore" WILL erase your files but you can save them. Read closely before you start.
Connect via cable to the computer that you intend to use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

Excel 2011 version 14.4.8 running on an iMac gets "out of memory" messages.

HELP!!! Excel 2011 running on an iMac with OS 10.10.2 and 16GB Ram gets "out of memory" messages. When I monitor processes with "Activity Monitor", I am using less than half of my RAM. The Excel workbook has many sheets and also some macros. The basic workbook has been running for about two and half years starting in August 2012 without any problems until I upgraded to Yosemite in early December 2014. Now I often have to restore the entire file content because it gets corrupted after not being able to save the file because of the "out of memory" message. I can take a file and its content that ran fine a year ago and run it today and it will eventually get corrupted and get the "Out of memory" message after saving/quitting/re-opening the file any where from 6 to 15 to 25 times. I think I need to have more memory allocated to Excel, but Yosemite doesn't provide any way for the user to interact with the memory management process. I have also experienced the very same problem on my MacBook Pro that runs Yosemite. I have worked file/path name length issues, closely inspected the macros that normally don't run except when activated with a user pressed button, and made sure I don't have any weird links within the workbook or even links to another file outside the workbook. This problem seems to get worse as a continue to fill up the spread sheet with more financial data. This Excel workbook is used to manage my club's finances; I am the club treasurer. I have searched the internet for clues about similar problems and have found none!

Given the caveat, have you tried reinstall of Office? Your MS Office 2011 may have become corrupted. After upgrading to Yosemite I had to reinstall my Office 2011. No crashes.
The current version of Office 2011 is 14.4.8.
First - find your Office 2011 install disc with the product key # - and only then remove Office according to MS instructions

After successfully reinstalling Office 2011, update your Office product using the Software update within Office called Microsoft Update or going to the Help menu within Word or Excel or PowerPoint and select Update.
It may take a few times before you get to final upgrade to current Office version.
It should be 14.4.8 as of current date.

Getting out of the Edge program

We were talked into getting onto the Edge program when we upgraded our phones. Normally we just purchase the phone and then wait two years to get another. The salesman told us that this would eventually save us money. That has not been the case and this is the worst program for people that keep their phones. I believe we were misled and I am disappointed. Verizon has always behaved better than AT&T and this just puts the company in the same boat. My question is this - How do we get out of it?

The Edge program can save you money. For some others it's doesn't. when you state you "purchase" a phone and wait 2 years. I assume you mean you get a subsidized discount and then sign a 2 year contract. You do realize that's not paying full price for a phone. The Edge program is CLEARLY stated on the website. Before agreeing to anything one should be an educated consumer.
If your past your 14 day return time to get out of the Edge program you must pay off the remaining cost of the phones. Exactly how were you mislead? You take the full price cost of a phone divided that by 20 payments. That's your Edge payment. You get either a $10 discount per line for data plans under 10 GB and a $25 discount per line for data plans 10 GB or higher.
Let's take look at subsidized vs Edge. Take a LG G3
Subsidized - $200 plus $30 upgrade fee = $230 plus taxes. So around $250 total
Edge with 10 GB data plan $600 plus taxes is around $650. $25 Edge discount for 20 months = $500. $650-$500=$150
So clearly the Edge plan is cheaper in the long run. Also if you keep the phone for 24 months like contract then the last 4 months you get a $25 month2month discount for another $100 so the total cost of the phone for 24 months is $50 vs $250 for a 2 year contract. This also doesn't take into account your taxes/fees are cheaper each month too. Ours is $1.75 a month over 24 months that's $42 thus bringing the cost of the phone down to $8 or less. With less than 10 data plan then Edge is not as attractive unless you like to upgrade yearly.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...
