Save screen takes 30 seconds or more to open

I've been having a problem recently where on any program, whenever I click Save As, or Save for the first time, it takes at least 30 seconds to open the finder window to choose where I want to save the file. I just have the beach ball, and it finally loads up, sometimes taking as long as a full minute. This has only been happening for about a week or two, and nothing else on the Macbook Pro lags. Any ideas what could cause this?

Right, sorry, I was thinking Terminal for some reason. No errors come up while the beach ball is spinning. I do all system updates as soon as they come out, and there hasn't been one since June if I remember correctly. I haven't installed any new software in the past couple weeks. I haven't tried Safe Mode yet, but I will try that soon.
The thing that makes this more tricky is that it doesn't do it 100% of the time. It seems like it will be fine for a while after I reboot, and then it starts doing it. However, it definitely isn't an issue of running out of resources since my Macbook Pro has 8GB of RAM, 40GB hard drive space empty, and the latest processor before the i5 was released.
Another thing to note is that once the save dialog window finally comes up, if I close it and then press save again, it opens normally. However, if I close the application, reopen it, and then try to save, it will hang again.

  • After upgrading to Lion OS 10.7.5 takes 10 seconds or more to access NAS folders and files

I've upgraded my customers IMacs to Lion OS and whenever they try to access folders on the Buffalo NAS terastation it takes about 10 seconds for the folders to populate with the files. It will open right away but will look blank. If I click get info during this time it says "fetching". I'm assuming it has something to do with the SMB change with lion but don't know how to fix it. I called Buffalo and they said it must be an apple issue. I called apple and they were of no help. THe tech support person asked me to reset my computer and leave it powered of for 30 seconds......ugh. Then I asked to speak to someone higher and we got cut off.
The Buffalo NAS terastation has SCSI drives but they are mounted to an HP Server. So the SMB connection is to the HP Server running server 2003. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any luck getting the info on SMBX parameters like OPLOCKS ? This is apparently causing an issue with Autodesk Revit. I am resorting to installing SMBUP.

  • Line saver tariffs - take a second look at the fig...

Having done the maths on BT's "line saver upfront paying of rental", the deal is not quite what is portrayed, at least not for me.  ! currently pay a line rental of £13.29 pm, but get a paper-free discount of £1.25 pm, effectively reducing the line rental to £12.04 pm  ( or £144.48 per year).  If I change to "line-rental", the monthly fee works out at £9.99 pm (or £119.88 per year).  However, on changing to "line-rental saver", I would loose the paper free discount of £1.25 pm, resulting in an effective rate of £11.24 pm.  The bottom line saving being only 80p per month (or £09.60 per year, and not the advertised annual saving of £39.60 per year).  Hardly an incentive to pay upfront to BT !!  P.S. the figures are also pro-rata when the vat increases 20 % in Jan 2011.

Your logic and maths is flawed.
Without Line Saver Rental, the total monthly charge for line rental is £13.29 less the paperless billing discount of £1.25, making £12.04 as you correctly state.
With Line Rental Saver, the monthly charge is one twelfth of £119.88 which is £9.99, meaning that you are saving £2.05 per month or £24.60 per year.
Your logic is flawed in double accounting the paperless billing discount.
What is advertised is correct for new customers who cannot get the paperless billing discount as it has been generally removed for new customers.
Their saving is hence £24.60 plus twelve times £1.25 which equals £39.60 for new customers.

  • When Photoshop CC is executed, the first File- Open takes 30 seconds and every File- Open after that is instant. Why is this?

I have Photoshop CC in my Laptop.  When I first load it/execute photoshop, File -> Open  it takes approx 30 seconds to return a selection.  If I do another File -> Open after this it is instant.
If I Quit Photoshop and reload it the first File -> Open takes another 30 seconds and then instant.  It is only the first Occurrence.
    I have a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD 4GB RAM.
If I do  start -> Photoshop -> Previously used file it loads no problem.
If I try the same things with Photoshop CS5 no problem.
    Why?
Forgot to add that I am running windows 7 x64 if that makes a difference.
I have found the problem.  I disconnected the internet from my laptop and it worked instantly.  So Adobe you need to improve your response times on this facet of the login as it is a pain.
Now I will stop looking for problems with my system....
Please advise if there is a work around...
    Thanks

Looking at my dbus messages above, the following section from pacman.log looks very suspicious:
    $ grep disk /var/log/pacman.log
    [2010-03-26 22:57] installed devicekit-disks (009-5)
    [2010-03-26 22:57] installed gnome-disk-utility (2.28.1-1)
    [2010-04-01 07:52] removed devicekit-disks (009-5)
    [2010-04-01 07:52] installed udisks (1.0.0-2)
    [2010-04-01 07:53] upgraded gnome-disk-utility (2.28.1-1 -> 2.30.1-1)
    [2010-04-10 11:07] upgraded udisks (1.0.0-2 -> 1.0.1-1)
No time currently to check if downgrading these helps. Also looks kinda complicated because udisks replaces devicekit-disks.
This also looks somehow related: http://groups.google.com/group/linux.de … 0f49cd9b53
    Edit:
OK, the symptoms can be replicated with the following command sequence:
    sudo /etc/rc.d/dbus restart
udisks --dump # <-- this takes forever.. 24 seconds on my system
udisks --dump # <-- any subsequent calls finish instantly, 0.043 seconds on my system

  • Firefox takes 1 minute or more to open pages.

    Hey,
Recently updated to Firefox 15, now all webpages take at least 1 minute to load. However, there is no internet issue, it's really strange. For example, I'll open four different websites, they'll all say 'Connecting to x' or 'Waiting for x' and just stay there for a minute. After a while, they'll all load as usual at the same time. It's like Firefox has loaded the pages but just isn't displaying them, while this was happening once, I tried resetting the router to see if there was an error there and it still loaded the page after 1 minute, while there was no internet connection available.
I've tried - disabling firewall, anti virus, reinstalling Firefox, restarting router and disabling plugins. Other internet browsers work with no problem.
    Thanks

But perhaps you could provide me with a list of recommend add ons

  • Should it take 20 seconds to dial a call?

On my wife's new iPhone 5, when she hits the call button, or clicks on a contact name to place a call, it takes 20 seconds or more for the call to start ringing. Sometimes it doesn't dial at all, and she has to try the call again. She's got lots of good LTE network signal, and can get data service just fine, but it takes an eternity to dial.
Should it take that long? Any ideas on a fix?

No it should take 20 seconds to make a call out but she may need to complete a reset of the network settings.
Go to settings in the phone> General> Reset> Reset Network Settings ( this will not erase the content on her phone)
It will power the phone off and back on by it self. It could be also that she may be having a network issue depending on were she is having the issue.Although you may have great coverage sometimes you can have too much coverage and that can cause an issue as well. Other option is to do a soft reset which is holding down the home key and power key for about 15 seconds and you will see the apple appear and allow the phone to reboot.
    Hope this helps.

I have a problem with my new Apple Air. It usually takes few seconds for the laptop to be untouched in order to be locked. So, sometimes when the screen starts to get dim in order to lock, I immediately touch the keypad to avoid locking the laptop, the result is a black screen appears with no responding to anything from pressing the keyboard to pressing the touchpad. It takes few minutes for the laptop to open again and then a message appears saying that there was a problem with the lock security.
    What is happening exactly?

It sounds like your sleep timers are set to too low of a value.  Go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver and set both timers to longer times.  The computer sleep timer should be a longer time than the display sleep timer.

First of all, are you using the OS native screen capture?
If not, make sure the application you're using has been update for Lion.  I was using Snapz Pro for years, but I need to update it for use with Lion. Meanwhile Grab and the keyboard shortcuts are working on my Lion load.
If you are using the native capture mode unsuccessfully, I would run the Disk Utility and repair permissions on the drive. For some reason, even in past OS Versions, routine maintenance of permissions makes life a lot easier.

  • How can I take a photo on my iPhone then save it into a second Album, not Camera Roll?

How can I take a photo on my iPhone then save it into a second Album, not Camera Roll?

All photos captured or saved with the iPhone are stored in the Camera Roll which cannot be changed.
You can create an album to place photos in that are in the Camera Roll which does not duplicate the photo. It creates a pointer to the original photo stored in the Camera Roll. If the original is deleted from the Camera Roll, it will be removed from the album as well.
Import the photos from the Camera Roll with your computer as with any other digital camera followed by deleting the photos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. Create an album or albums for the imported photos on your computer followed by transferring the albums from your computer via the iTunes sync process which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.

  • T450s startup takes 35 seconds before showing splash screen. (11 sec wake-up)

The follwing are my problems:1. When starting up the machine, it takes about 35 seconds before the first screen activity appears (Lenovo splash screen). After that it boots quite normal.
    2. When waking out of sleep mode it takes 11 seconds before I see the power led stopping to "breath" and the screen wakes up.
It feels like this is a hardware/bios related issue, as (so far I know) hdd/ssd is only accessed after the bios has loaded and has finished its hardware checks. When sticking in a bootable usb it only starts flickering after the bios had loaded on screen.
    Question:
Does anyone has an idea why my laptop is waiting so long to boot or to wake up? I don't mind waiting a bit, but waiting for 35 seconds + the normal boot time is really annoying. Specially with the fact that the laptop doesn't show any sign of live for 35 seconds after briefly lighting up the keyboard backlights. The wake-up delay is also very annoying since even my 7 year old BSOD laptop wakes-up faster, and I'm using sleep mode a lot.
Some origins that I'm thinking about:
    - Hardware check during initial hardware startup does not yet recognize a dedicated GPU card. (POST: Power On Self Test)
    - I don't think this is a problem with my software since the problems occurs before reading any media.
    Things I tryed already:
    - Reset bios.
    - Start in legacy mode.
    - Bios update
    - rebuilding MBR (although I don't expect this to be the problem.)
    - Refreshing windows installation although I don't expect this to be the problem.)
This problem was already at the beginning (with origenal hardware):
From the first time I started the laptop (so even with the HDD) I noticed it took quite long to start. I remember pressing the ON/OFF button multiple times and thinking I did something wrong, when suddenly the "Lenovo" splash screen appeared.
I hope someone can help me!

My problems have been solved! An engineer contacted me that they have recieved a spare mainboard and they wanted to make an appointment. I gave them the adress where I worked the next day since I'm very mobile, and the next day an engineer came by. He seemed like a skilled IBM engineer and tested my machine and came to the same conclusion as me. He then did a few tests to see if the problem was caused by something else then the mainboard but ended by replacing my mainboard with good care. After the replacement the the boot and wake-up time was normal like it should be. I'm very pleased by the service Lenovo ThinkPad has given me. I need to add that when I called for support I got someone on the line that could not really understand me, neighter dutch or english. But that was also duo a bad connection it seemed.. But after that call I did not really expect this would come to a good end. I was then really suppriced that 5 day's later a dutch engineer manager called me to make a appointment.

  • Splash screen takes up to 20 seconds to clear

Whenever I start AP 2.1, the splash screen can take up to 20 seconds before it clears and the main interface screen appears. My total number of images is something over 7000, which isn't large by some standards. On the basis that AP is checking something at startup, I've now created a library per year, with my oldest one (2002) only containing a couple of hundred images across five projects. Still, however, it takes 20 seconds to clear. I've tried rebuilding each library; I've tried switching of and deleting all previews in case that was an issue. I've even done a complete re-install of AP including getting rid of all the application support folders in the the library folders.
Anyone else with the same thing? Is this normal? Does AP heck something during startup in this scenario?
    Any ideas/help gratefully received

Well after much testing, rebuilding etc. etc., there does seem to be a distinct difference between having a managed and a referenced library. I have two copies of the same library. One is managed, the other referenced. The managed one opens almost instantaneously, whereas the referenced one has the Splash screen up for maybe 20 seconds before the main interface appears. So the question is, what is Aperture doing in the referenced version? Is it, as has been suggested, doing some sort of check on the existence of the referenced files?
This is just a small test library. The implication is that the larger it grows, the longer AP will take to start. Any comments? Ideas?
