Viewing large Illustrator CS3 files problem

I use bridge to browse through previous work in created in Illustrator CS3.
Problem - when viewing these files in Bridge some files (whatever their dimensions) show as large thumbnails and others (with the same AI dimensions) are small and do not seem to stretch in Bridge?
Can anyone explain how to stretch the thumbnail in Bridge.

Sorted - I need to save the CS3 file with 'create pdf compatible file' checked in the options, and it then opens as a large thumbnail in bridge.

Hey, another way that i just discovered by complete accident is by selecting what you want to send, and in Illustrator, going to File>Save For > and then click on okay. > then you save it under Pictures or wherever you wish, and name it. Now, all you have to do is compose an email, and attach it!
Hopefully this works for you like it does for me!

Illustrator CS3 files prints without black when sent to printer

Howdy,
First, excuse my noobiness.
I have a large (dimension wise) illustrator cs3 file that consists of a warm gray color for the background and solid vibrant colors on the fore. No linked images, only vectors. Everything is in cmyk. I printed to our laser just to see how the colors are looking and they were fine. Then I plotted it in-house at full size and those prints looked fine too. I sent the same illustrator file to our printer but when they printed it their prints looked pastel/too light as if the file I sent them didnt contain any blacks. Exporting to a .tiff fixed the problem, but I really wanted to avoid .tiff files because of how large the graphics are going to be in the end (about 3ft wide by 18+ ft tall). Is there something that I should've done before turning in the illustrator files to our printer?

am sorry but that means if u made atiff u need to make a pdf and print right in acrobat ie (pdf/X1 a) or
if u to print in AI u place that pdf Linked Dont embed it works if its not ya colour Values

Which Illustrator CS3 files are editable in Microsoft Word?

Dear all
I need to design something using InDesign and Illustrator CS3 (or just one of these depending on the responses I get).
Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)? It would mainly just be text which would need to be edited in Word afterwards.

None of them.

You can export text from InDesign and open/edit that text file in Word, but you will not get layout, page size, columns, margins, or graphics. You can export art from Illustrator as EMF or PNG (I much prefer PNG) them import those graphics normally and position as you want.
Making your Illustrator or InDesign file into an editable Word file means doing a lot of it over again in a much worst interface.

Opening illustrator cs3 file in Fireworks changes color, but not code

I created a vector graphic in Illustrator CS3, with RGB. I
then opened the file in Fireworks and everything looks fine because
it's still vector. But the color is not right. It's close, but much
lighter. The RGB values are exactly the same.
Anyone have this problem before?

Fireworks does not use color profiles, so the colors you see
in Fireworks will be what the majority of Web site visitors will
see (skipping, for the moment, the huge problem of monitor
variation). Only Safari displays images using the color profiles.

setting/disabling profiles in Photoshop (comments disabled at 200),

So, while your experience is with Illustrator, it's probably
the same underlying cause. Illustrator is showing you the colors
with an ICC profile, even though they're in RGB. When you open the
image in Fireworks, you see the colors without a profile.
This is one reason I like using Fireworks. I have a better
feeling about what my visitors are going to see (again, setting
aside the huge problem of monitor variation).

How can I save an Illustrator CS3 EPS file so that a CS2 user can open it? If so, how is this accomplished?

If you Save As, hen click Save, you will be presented with a second dialogue asking for version number. Select CS2 or earlier and the file can be edited in CS2. Some effects and appearances might not survive the translation or will require flattening, which makes them harder or impossible to edit.
Your colleague might also be Placing the EPS rather than opening it.

You need to Save the CS3 file as a legacy version.
Choose Save As, give it a name, click Save. On the next screen, choose CS2 from the drop down list at the top.

Importing Illustrator CS3 files into flash CS3 to tween

Hello,
I'm definitely not a flash pro so I would like some help!
I'm trying to animate a man in Flash CS3 who was drawn in
illustrator CS3.
I've imported all the layers but when I try to tween them
only the ones that have a single path tween correctly. Can you only
tween single path layers or am I being an idiot?

you can actually make illustrator drawings into symbols for
use in Flash CS3 while they're still in Ai. I would try that
approach first. There are some video tutorials on Adobe's site-
I've lost the link.
That takes it out of the multi-layer wackiness, and puts
everything together in nice packages.

Illustrator CS3 saving problems

We have recently integrated our MAC's with a new mini MAC sever. Still authenticating on a windows domain and all home areas are network locations on a win2k3 server.
All my Adobe CS3 programs work as you would expect with the exception of Illustrator. I can make a new file under any user name and save it. However if I load that same file up or any other saved file I get errors - some of the errors are on loading the file, ie, plugin's and Parm errors. These all allow me to continue if they show up (not all the time), but no matter what I cannot save the file if I edit it or not. I just get 'UNEXPECTED ERROR SAVING'. I can't save anywhere not to a USB pen, network drive or local HDD. I can save as an eps file but when I go to the location to see what has saved ther is no file there.
I have tried loosing the parameters files and saving as an admin but still the same problem 'Unexpected error saving'. Installed Illustrator and re-installed still the same problem.
Can anyone give me any clues at all please??

I am also having problems with a new trial version of Illustrator CS5. Been working fine for several days of trial version, but got a message to run Application Manager today, and had to update/install a new 30 day trial. I cannot save anything, new work, previous work. Am on a PC, window XP, plenty of memory, power,etc Not a great introduction to someone thinking of buying the new program.

ILLUSTRATOR CS3 EXPORTING PROBLEM

HELLO, I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME WHAT IM DOING WRONG. IM TRYING TO EXPORT A SELECTED GRAPHIC FROM A CS3 ILLUSTRATOR FILE TO PHOTOSHOP. WHATS HAPPENING IS, INSTEAD OF EXPORTING JUST THE SELECTED ITEM, ITS EXPORTING THE WHOLE PAGE.? I CANT WORK OUT WHAT IM DOING WRONG.

Yo kev, I found the crop area comand in the object menu, on your menu bar at top of screen. I've worked out a crude way of using the "crop area " command to localise objects for exporting.
1. draw a rectangle roughly the size of graphic you want to export.
2. go to, object menu, crop area, make. this should make crop marks over the rectangle youv'e just created.
3. move your graphic ontop of the rectangular area, with crop marks youve just created.
4. file, export.
so far i havent had any problems with this method.
give it a go.

View in illustrator CS3

hi,
when you use adobe indesign, it gives you the option of viewing a file in normal, preview, or bleed views. i'm wondering if illustrator has this same feature?
i recently set up an illustrator file for a banner. i set it up for 24 inches x 36 inches.
i brought some vector art into the file and then positioned a sun icon so only half of it would view on the 24x36 banner. but you could also see the rest of the icon beyond the boundaries of the banner dimensions.
so, is there a way i can view the file in preview mode so i can see what it will look like when it's printed?

No because Illustrator, still in its infancy at version 13 and 21 years old, does not know about bleeds. The closest you can do is to use Preview mode and hide guides and non-printing layers. You could add a layer to cover anything that bleeds.

HELP!!! "unknown format cannot open"...BUT it's a Illustrator CS3 file?????

I spent several hours designing a file in CS3. I went to "Save as Web & Devices" and my MAC froze and I had to reboot. I now cannot open the illustrator file without getting the "file is an unknown format and cannot be opened" error. I have tried dropping the file in Distiller, placing in InDesign and trying to place into a blank illustrator file with no luck. I have even tried to open the file in Photoshop file. All attempts say the file is unknown. Did the crash corrupt the illustrator file? If so, is there a way to recover. I pray there is!! I do not want to redesign this project again!!! HELP!!

Illustrator - save file problem

Illustrator 9.0.2 / Windows XP 5.1 : When in an Illustrator doc, when I do File Save, a dialog appears telling me a bit of useless info - "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties" - seeing that the dialog tells one absolutely nothing about a solution ( ! ); when I look in Windows Explorer, anytime I get that message the file is shown as aad03108 or aad01272 or aab04020 (just noticed there seems to be a sequence when I have repeated the attempt to File Save; when I Save File As the same doc, it goes through the cycle OK; any ideas out there? Thanks.

Are you saving to a network drive or a local drive? And, did this just start happening? I'd take a look at your scratch disk space. Have you done any system maintenance like a defrag lately? Just a hunch, but maybe you're running out of space for a decent preview save.

Trust tablet + illustrator CS3 + pressure problem

I've get recently trust slimline tablet for mac. Using Mac OS X 10.6.2 with adobe cs3. I've installed the tablet, and it works ok with photoshop and does recognize brush pressure and everything. But illustrator doesn't seem to see it - I still can draw and use the pen, but when I'm trying to change calligraphic (or any other) brushes settings to pressure sensitive it's impossible: the only variables working are fixed and random. the pen icon in right bottom corner is crossed. Have contacted trust - and there is no special drivers for illustrator, anyway have installed the newest drivers, have installed illustrator update. restarted everything and so on - and still no result. and photoshop still perfect. Any advice? Maybe I should turn on something different than just brushes settings? Have been trying to find any solutions on forums, but no luck there

I got the one for mac. [Slimline design tablet for Mac, 15908, 'Fully compatible with Mac OS tablet']. If it was to be working with windows only would expect it to not work with photoshop and other things as well....
