Saving changes on file close doesn't work

I just upgraded from iLife 4 to 6, and cannot get iMovie 6 to save changes when I close the project and press the Save button in response to the question: "Do you want to save the changes you made in the document [name of file]?" If I hit command-S manually before closing the file, it WILL save changes, but I am worried that one day I will forget to manually save changes, approve the "save changes on file close" request, and my changes will be lost! I have tossed the preferences and run repair permissions, but neither one helped. I have never seen any Mac application (or Windows, for that matter) fail to save changes when you close a file and get asked to save changes. Does yours work? What am I doing wrong?
G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Welcome to the forum!
The failure to save when you close a project very, very weird. That one is new to me.
iMovie HD does require that the project disk uses the Mac OS Extended disk format. If it uses another format, there can be problems saving. So I'd start there.

Be sure too to rule out third-party plug-ins and QuickTime add-ons that can cause weird problems. There probably aren't many iLife 6 user still using Mac OS 10.3.9. Although iMovie 6 is supposed to run okay, it may be that you'll see problems others don't see.
Is the routine maintenance that Mac OS X does on its own getting done?

  • Changing .dmg file extension doesn't work as expected

    Hi everybody,
    I wanted to change the file extension of an image of a floppy disk creating using Disk Uitility. The original extension is ".dmg". Changing this extension in the Finder window to ".flp" seems to work --- but only at first sight.
    Looking at the directory using Terminal, the image file now has the extension of ".flp.dmg". This is creating a lot of problems, for instance when using VMWare Fusion which does not want to mount disk image files with an extension not equal to ".flp".
    How to solve the problem?
    Try renaming the file in the Terminal using the command "mv". This really changed the file name. Worked for me!
    Question:
    Is this a problem of the Finder? (or a feature I don't understand?)
    Best Regards,
    Matthias

    In Finder, first ensure that Show Extension is selected in the Get Info window, then back in Finder, file.dmg can be manually altered to file.flp. A query will arise, "do you want to really change this to .flp?" will be asked and confirm that this is how you want it. Its new extension will remain visible.

  • How do you close a dragged applet, as Stage.close() doesn't work?

    I'm trying to implement a close button in a draggable applet, but Stage.close() doesn't work, and there's an odd little "X" icon which is causing me problems...
    My starting point and example is the simple draggable applet from the API documentation. It's the code listed under "User-Specified Close Example":
    http://java.sun.com/javafx/1.2/docs/api/javafx.stage/javafx.stage.AppletStageExtension.html
    import javafx.scene.*;
    import javafx.scene.input.MouseEvent;
    import javafx.scene.paint.*;
    import javafx.scene.shape.*;
    import javafx.scene.text.*;
    import javafx.stage.*;
    var textContent = "Click the box to return to the browser";
    var outside: Boolean = false;
    var s: Stage = Stage {
        title: "AppDeploy Demo"
        width : 300 height : 200
        style: StageStyle.TRANSPARENT
        opacity: 0.5
        scene : Scene {
                content: [
                    Text { content: bind textContent
                           x: 25 y:35 fill: Color.BLACK
                           font: Font{size: 24}
                    Rectangle { x: 100 y: 100 width: 100 height: 100 fill: Color.RED
                                onMouseClicked: function(e: MouseEvent): Void {
                                    s.close();
        extensions: [
            AppletStageExtension {
                shouldDragStart: function(e: MouseEvent): Boolean {
                    return e.shiftDown and e.primaryButtonDown;
                useDefaultClose: false
    }However, the Stage.close() function in the user code doesn't seem to close the applet once it's dragged. It seems this can only be achieved by a mysterious little "X" in a box top right, acting as a close button.
    Here's a demonstration of the problem once you've compiled that code:
    1. Open browser with applet (I'm using IE8 on Windows XP)
    2. Shift-drag the applet out of the browser. Notice the little X in a box appears when you drop the applet on the desktop.
    3. Click the red rectangle to invoke the Stage.close() function in the user code.
    4. Applet disappears from screen and does not reappear in the browser.
    5. But minimising all the icons on the desktop shows the little X in a box is still there sitting on your desktop (actually I find the X has gone, but the box is still there). This suggests the applet is still running.
    6. Close the browser. The little X's box is still on the desktop.
    7. After a short pause a Java dialog box appears: "Desktop integration warning. The application would like to create shortcuts. Do you want to continue? OK/Skip" The applet wasn't closed, it is still running!
    8. Click Skip. Dialog box disappears. But the little X's box is still on the desktop. Is the applet still running?
    9. Try to recompile app again into a deployable Jar (I'm using Eclipse for this).
    10. The compiler stops with "ERROR: Jar file C:\[...].jar could not be deleted. The Jar is probably locked by running application, Web browser, emulator or antivirus. Please check that all windows related to the application have been closed." Yes, the applet Jar is still being used.
    11. Minimise all the windows. The little X's box is still on the desktop.
    12. Click the little X's box.
    13. After a few seconds the box disappears. Does this mean the applet is no longer in use...?
    14. Recompile the app again into a deployable Jar. It works!
    By the way, you get the same experience with another Sun sample: the DraggableMP3Player at
    http://javafx.com/samples/DraggableMP3Player/index.html
    That, too, thinks it's implementing it's own close button, and again the same problem occurs.
    So it seems Stage.close() doesn't properly close the applet, and only the the little X in a box will do this.
    I'd like to be able to really close the applet from my own code. How can I do this?
    Many thanks
    Nik

    After double tap home button, swipe up on the app card that appears above the icon.

  • Numbers 3.2 has changed too much, it doesn't work with my project anymore. How do I revert back to the previous version I was using?

    Numbers 3.2 has changed too much, it doesn't work with my project anymore. 1) The sheet panels used to be on the left hand side and easily reviewable and searchable, but now they are on the top and it's harder to find a specific folder without scrolling (too time consuming), 2) I used to be able to duplicate a folder within my sheet panel window by simply clicking on a folder and hitting Command D, but that doesn't work now so it looks like I'll have to spend even more time to recreate the same tables that used to be easily duplicated, and 3) I can't choose fill colors that matched my project anymore because there are only limited choices available now. And these are only the changes that I'm aware of. I am very disappointed and frustrated. Whatever the motivation was to limit Numbers 3.2, I want the previous version back. How do I revert back to the previous version I was using?

    The sheet panels used to be on the left hand side and easily reviewable and searchable, but now they are on the top and it's harder to find a specific folder without scrolling (too time consuming),
    You can scroll more quickly between sheets if you don't use the left-right triangles, but instead move the cursor up into the bands with the "tabs" and drag right or left.
    Also, if you have a lot if sheets for which you want a quick vertical list, then you can try the following have something like this pop up (showing your sheet names automatically) whenever you hit a keyboard shortcut (in my case shift-command-j):
    This is done via a Jump to Sheet Automator Service (Dropbox download).  To install just doubleclick the .workflow package and (if needed) click 'Download Anyway' in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.
    This will cause a new item to appear in your Numbers > Services menu.  Then, if you want a keyboard shortcut, go here in System Preferences and add one:
    You can rename or remove the service by holding down the option key in Finder and choosing Go > Library > Services. You can also view the AppleScript contaned within the service by opening the .workflow package in Automator.
    This particular service jumps to the first cell of the first table of the sheet you choose from an automatically generated list of all sheets in the current document.

  • Changing song's info doesn't work

    When I go to file info and change the file name, etc. it works at first, but when I play the song, it reverts all the info into the original names.
    Can anybody's help me please? It's so annoying!
    I already tried converting the ID3 Tags or consolidating the library, but nothing works! every time I click on the files they go back to their original names/info
    Help!
    (iTunes 7)

    I think the ID3 tags are just the revision to the MP3 data. In other words, the metadata in an MP3 file conforms to certain specifications and over the years they must periodically update it to include new fields or ways to represent new information. So perhaps newer tags are not all that backwards compatible or something?
    I don't know why it works. I just know it does. I assume that "none" must be basic/generic tags only and not including them thar new fangled fields or some such, so I assume "none" probably means a universal set of info that any program can access.

  • File.delete() and File.deleteOnExit() doesn't work consistently..

    I am seeing some odd behavior with trying to delete files that were opened. Usually just doing new File("file.txt").delete() would work. However, in this case, I have created an input stream to the file, read it in, saved it to another location (copied it), and now I am trying to delete it.
    The odd thing is, in my simple application, the user can work with one file at a time, but I move "processed" files to a lower pane in a swing app. When they exit it, it then archives all the files in that lower pane. Usually every file but the last one opened deletes. However, I have seen odd behavior where by some files don't delete, sometimes all of them wont delete. I tried the deleteOnExit() call which to me should be done by the JVM after it has released all objects such that they don't matter and the JVM ignores any object refs and directly makes a call (through JNI perhaps) to the underlying OS to delete the file. This doesn't work either.
    I am at a loss as to why sometimes some files delete, and other times they don't. In my processing code, I always close the input stream and set its variable to null. So I am not sure how it is possible a reference could still be held to the object representing the file on disk.

    But it doesn't work.
    and I have a question ,
    where should I saved the file 'com.sap.security.core.util.notification.notificationTexts_language_zh_CN.properties'  in the Portal server.

    Since you have not provided a more detailed desription of what is not working, and what is at error and what you assume the desired output to be for the specific user(s), I can only recommend you check the following:
    1.) The email parameters are being configured per language. As such the user you are testing with needs to have the same default portal language assigned. Either by default or by personalisation.
    2.) The 'com.sap.security.core.util.notification.notificationTexts_language_zh_CN.properties' file you are using may be referencing a notificationTexts_cn.properties language entry. Check the language installations are named the same and be aware this can be case sensitive.
    3.) Ensure that you have the entry in the config tool in the same case.

  • HTMLDataSet: changing URL in "null" doesn't works

    Hi,
    I have this page, but it doesn't works.
    I need to have the possibility that by clicking the "change" button, the "ds1" dataset would become able to load as source the internal table called "sourceTable", but it doesn't works.
    Any suggestion??
    Thanks
    Simone

    This:
    ds1.setURL('prova.php');
    ds1.loadData();
    instead of null.
    could be works, but I need to change the data in the "sourceTable" dinamically: in this new example if I click the button "change source data", it change the content of "sourceTable"; then if I click the "change" button, it load in the "ds1" dataSet the old data from "sourceTable", because the quoted code call "another copy" of prova.php from the server and the new copy of the file contains obviously the original data in "sourceTable".
    Using null instead 'prova.php' it doesn't works too...
    Please, help me!!

  • File sharing doesn't work between two computers

    I have a Macbook Air bought late 2009 (I'll call it MBA 1). OS 10.6.0.
    I have a new Macbook Air bought a few days ago (I'll call it MBA 2). OS 10.6.4.
    I have been attempting to share files from the two computers.
    I was able to move files from MBA 1 to MBA 2 without too much fuss. I could do it both ways: by finding "Shared" in Finder and then accessing the files or I could go to "Go" and "Connect to Server". I was able to add the username of the MBA 2 to the list of users in the Sharing pane of the MBA 1.
    So going from MBA 1 ---> MBA 2 is fine.
    However going from MBA 2 ----> MBA 1 doesn't work.
    1) The finder in the MBA 1 doesn't show "Shared".
    2) I can't add user to the Sharing pane of the MBA 2.
    The problem could be that the two usernames of the MBA 1 and the MBA 2 are very similar.
    Username of MBA 1: jk
    Username of MBA 2: J K
    I tested this theory out by adding a username I just made up called "Jack" and it added the username fine to the list of users.
    But it's too late to change the username of the computers now.
    What can I do?

    I got it to work.
    What I did was on MBA 2, I went to "Go" and "Connect to server". Then I selected the MBA 1 to connect to.
    As soon as I did that, "Shared" appeared in Finder with the MBA 2's name on it.
    After connecting which took a long time, the folders to be shared showed up in the Finder window.
    I don't know why trying to connect to MBA 2's server didn't work in MBA 1. I went to "Go" and "Connect to server" many times on the MBA 1 but it didn't work.

  • Locate file window doesn't work

    Ok, this problem occures only on our Z800 workstations.
    Everything works as expected on my laptop.
    When I try to relink a media file, the relink media window opens, and then I click the Locate button.
    The new window ALWAYS opens in the top most level (basically My Computer in windows) and not in the last used directory.
    I think it has something to do with the second problem - the path text box doesn't work. Whatever I enter there and click Return - nothing happens. It doesn't navigate to the folder specified in the path field. The only way to navigate is to go throught the folder tree on the left.
    For every file I have to do it always from the top most level - that is a lot of clicking.
    Also if I uncheck Use Media Browser to locate files, the default windows dialog properly navigates to the last known location of the file.
    I know it's an error - since on my laptop everything works fine. The window opens in the last know location of the media file and I can easily navigate using the path field.
    Any suggestions what could be the reason for this?

    Jim Simon wrote:
    I'm not sure if this is a bug.  The Locate File dialog seems to be opening where it thinks the file might be, rather than where it was.  For example, I renamed the 0000.mts file for a particular project, and when I opened Premiere Pro, Locate File went to the 0000.mts file from another project/folder, thinking that might be it.
    So...if you have no other files that might be the missing file, the dialog starts at the top.
    Jim,
    I understand what you are saying in regard to where it thinks it might be. However if I manually type a path where a file I want to link to rathter then clicking 20 times in the folder tree, it throws a "File not accessible" error. Yet if I use the folder tree to navigate to the same file it sees it and links to it fine.
    It just seems that whenever I try to manually type a path in the path address field is when the error occurs.
    Are you able to manually type in a path > hit enter/return and have it link to the file?

  • When my Imac first boots up, file sharing doesn't work

    27" iMac; about 7 months old
    OS X 10.8.4
    2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5
    When I first boot it up, file sharing with the PCs doesn't work.  I have to turn file sharing off then back on, sometimes I have to do it several times, before the PCs will finally connect using their mapped drives.

    Move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist out of the stupidly hidden /Library/Preferences/ folder onto the Desktop, restart, and see if the problem persists. If not, reset your system preferences and delete the moved file. Then, update to 10.8.5.

    Hello,
    I'm trying to use LXDM to start my desktop. However, every single time I log in, I have to tell it to use XFCE as my session.
    Even if I choose it manually, after logout/login it just resets to "Default session" (which doesn't work: just drops back to LXDM).
    I looked everywhere in my home directory and not found any place where it stores the session.

    It's the default, except that I enabled autologin (which doesn't work due to the problem I describe in my post).

  • Adobe Professional - link action - File Exit doesn't work as it should

    In Adobe Professional, create a new link using the following steps:
    - Create Link
    - Custom Link
    - Click Next
    - Go to the Actions tab
    - Select the 2 following Actions:
         - File>Close
         - File>Exit
    - Click Ok on the 2 dialog boxes.
    -save the pdf
    When you open the document  (in Reader or Professional) and you click the link, the File Exit action never occurs (Adobe stays open).  For certain users, the File Close action works (but not the the File> Exit).
    Please note that all users have the following configuration:
    Edit --> Preferences --> Internet --> Display PDF in Browser = UNCHECKED
    Edit --> Preferences --> Internet --> Allo fast web view = UNCHECKED
    All users are using Adobe Reader 9.2, and the behavior is the same for all.
