Saving excel & word docs onto ipad

i have downloaded smart office 2 onto my ipad about 2 months ago, for some reason i can no longer save excel & word documents onto my ipad anymore.
before i would hold finger on attchment and it would give me option to open document with smart office and i could save the document, now when i hold finger on attachment it just gives me the email icon option thats all. the attachment icon would appear as a word or excel document on the email, it no longer appears that way. what could be the problem

Try going into Dropbox and tapping on the file. You should see what looks like a box with an up arrow on it. Tap that icon, then choose Open In... and Pages should be a choice.
On a Mac or a PC, you can save things in 1 place and have multiple applications access themas needed. On the iPad, you have to store the files in just one place, and, if you wish to move them, you need to go to their current storage spot (in this case, Dropbox) and use the Open In... feature to move it to another app.
Hopefully that makes sense.

    THis is safe for Mac's? Sorry, I have just never heard of this site before.
    And there are literally tens of thousands of sites of which I've not heard, too. Not this one.
    It's legit. There are lots of links in Apple Support Communities to the LibreOffice web site, as well as others that are legitimate open-source developers of options to buying MS Office, such as NeoOffice and OpenOffice. I have Open Office installed on one of my older Macs that can't run Office 2011 and it is rock-solid.
    I've been here too long to start posting bogus urls now.

    how do i put microsoft word docs onto icloud so that i can transfer to my mac book

    Not really.
    You can sign into iCloud.com from a web browser on your PC.
    Open Pages and drag the Word document in or click the Gear on the top right and upload.
    This will convert it to a Pages document. It will be accessible to you through iCloud and the Pages app on your iOS devices. You can always redownload the file from iCloud as a Word document.
    As with any document conversion, this may alter the formatting.

  • Best way to access Excel & Word documents on iPad

    On my iMac I have  a number of EXCEL and WORD documents created with Excel / Word MICROSOFT for MAC 2011.
    I want to access these Word and Excel documents on my iPad.
    I am confused as to what is the best way to do this.    Pages & Numbers with iCloud ........ or ....... CloudOn, the free, cloud based service that lets you run Word and Excel on the ipad????
    When we are on holidays I need to VIEW or UPDATE Excel and Word documents on my iPad and then when we get home update my iMac with any changes that I may have made.
    I do not need to print from my iPad whilst on holidays, only view and update.
    Has anyone had experience with Pages and Numbers on their ipad using documents created with Microsoft for Mac 2011 on their Mac computer.  Does it work well and is it user friendly doing what I want it to do as detailed above?
    Thanks

    Thanks for that info Skydiver119.
    I was hoping that if I had the apps  'PAGES' (for my Word docs) and  'NUMBERS' (for my Excel docs) loaded on my iPad that I would be able to access my documents without having to have internet access.
    I understand that to get them there in the first place I need internet access and then to update back to my iMac when I get back home I would need internet access.
    I am relatively new to iPad & apps etc. so maybe I have misunderstood the concept.  I thought that having the apps loaded onto my ipad, would mean that my documents would be there to access/edit/update when ever I needed to.   I mean of course, as I have already said above, once downloaded either by syncing through iTunes or iCloud to start with.
    Can you (or anyone else!) please help with this
    Thanks

  • How can I transfer a word doc to iPad?

    I am trying to tranfer a word doc to an iPad. Any answers?

    How do you mean transfer?
    I email mine (or use goodreader on the ipad). It's never failed to open any office document. Watch the size though - a huge Excel spreadsheet will slow the ipdad down more than a tad!

  • Word processing software:  Appleworks, NeoOffice / saving as Word.doc

    I would love some advice on word processing software.
    My daughter is a college student who sometimes needs to e-mail her papers to a teacher (in Word). She does not have Word, and we're not buying it. In the past, she's used the school computers, but that's not always practical. She has a Mac, with Appleworks on it. If she works in Appleworks and saves a paper in Word format, will it really open okay in Word, with footnotes, images, etc. intact? (Obviously, she doesn't want to get a lower grade for something so silly and avoidable.) I think I have seen on this forum somewhere a mention of trouble with footworks in Appleworks docs saved in Word format.
    Also, if she were to save as a Word doc, which format would be the best to use: Word Mac 6; Word Mac 98; Word Windows 6; Word Windows 97, 2000, XP 2002?
    She also needs to do simple tables sometimes, which it looks like Appleworks can do. Do these translate well?
    Also, I have looked at NeoOffice and OpenOffice online. It looks like one of those would be a possibility for her, too. Apparently, documents can be saved as Word files in those programs. Does anyone know if they are any better than Appleworks for this purpose? (For instance, with footnotes?)
    From the NeoOffice Website: "You can exchange documents with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org users, even on other platforms!" Does that mean a Word file will open and display okay, if you get one e-mailed to you? And that your own Word file will open and display okay on the other end? (I know this is not about Appleworks, but someone might know. . .)
    Looking through this forum, I have seen software for opening Word documents (icWord), but my daughter needs to be able to (reliably) go both ways--saving and opening.
    Thanks much in advance!

    Overall, I'd concur with Ken.
    AppleWorks/Word conversion does have difficulties with tables and footnotes.
    Neo Office has better compatibility with MS Office, and runs without installing additional software on your Mac. But it's a Java implementation of an earlier version of OpenOffice.org, and is missing a few recent improvements. It's also a bit slow, although in some uses this is not a problem.
    OpenOffice.org runs in an Xwindow (no relation to MS Windows), and requires installation of X11, Apple's Xwindow implementation. I haven't used it, but expect that it is a more compatible implementation than NeoOffice.
    Both are free to download and use. If nothing else, one or the other is useful to see how successful the AppleWorks > Word translation of a particular file has been.
    The closest compatibility will be achieved with MS Windows (Mac), of course. If your reasons for not purchasing MS Windows are strictly economic, you mmight want to rethink them. As a student, your daughter is elegible to purchase the Teacher and Student edition at a much lower price than the retail version. This version is operationally identical to the retail one. The largest difference is a licencing one—student/teacher licencees are not eligible for reduced price upgrades to the next version. They are, though, eligible to purchase the next Student & Teacher edition provided they still qualify at that time.

  • Trouble opening documents in word that were created in pages (even though i saved as word doc)

    I know how to save documents in pages to word format, I've seen the tutorials and read things over and over again about this. However, I am creating some documents in pages, saving them as word docs, emailing them to other people who are opening up on PC with word, but the formatting and the paragraphs are all messed up. I really need help so I can get my work done and my documents I create at home in pages will open up correctly in word by others.
    Thanks.

    So, an update of sorts.
    Turns out it's not a total hang—if I leave the ball spinning (for 30+ minutes), the open dialogue finally pops up... but it's in an empty home folder.
    We seem to have some sort of corruption of the home folder file hierarchy (there's an odd folder called "99" that appeared on the root of the server's main drive—I can't get access to it, and I don't want to monkey with the permissions until I can figure out what it is) that dates from the same time that our problem popped up. The only thing that I can think of that I changed at around that time was to add a new group home folder. Might I have mucked up the file system? (Shouldn't be that easy, should it? But hey, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!)
    Any thoughts or suggestions? Could the problems (the phantom folder and the spinning ball of almost-doom) be related? Or am I simply dealing with a pair of peculiarities that are unrelated, or that are both symptoms of yet another problem, rather than cause and effect?
    Thanks to everyone who's chimed in so far for you input!
    But, to reiterate, help!

  • Exporting a pdf into an editable word doc on iPad

    I need someone to walk me thru the process to export a pdf into a word doc for editing on an iPad.  Please?

    The OCR is very dependent on the quality of the scan. You might try testing with various scanning options on a sample page. Typically 300 dpi is the minimum for OCR, but some folks like 600 dpi. If the page is clean, with no dust or other imperfections and the text is crisp, you should be able to do reasonably well. It is probably best to run the corrections steps after the OCR (looking at suspects) and editing appropriately.
    The conversion to WORD should not be expected to be real clean in terms of retaining format. You need to look to using style sheets in WORD to simplify the format fixes. Then run the spell check and grammer checker (you might end up with a better document than you started with). There is not a lot more you can do with Acrobat.
    You do have the options of ClearScan and Searchable Text. In one version of Acrobat, ClearScan used some strange fonts (not system fonts) that did not convert well to WORD. I was able to get a better result with Searchable Text in that case. I have not played with OCR that much, and so am just giving some comments of things I have run into.

  • Saving as word doc?

    Using trial version of iWord. I know I can save a document as a ms word file. However, is there a way to have all docs saved as ms word docs automatically, without having to choose that option at each save?

  • Using Access to store OLE objects like Excel , Word docs and retrieve them

    Hi folks,
    I need a solution for this problem guys.
    The logic is like this : A portable exe file and a database. Database contains files stored ( embedded ) in it like Excel , Word , notepad etc.
    On running the exe file and giving necessary prompts or combo entries, it should display all files related to the selection and On clicking the link the document should open itself.
    Why I use Access : Most of the PC contains MS Office. Otherwise I have to use a lightweight protable database.
    Also it should be able to store files into it. As far as I know , Access can store excel and images etc. Is there any other protable db capable of storing excel and word docs.
    After storing how do I retrieve the file. I have read about displaying images. What about excel files...

    Portable as in the sense every one can cary the file and the MS access database and can access data whenever they want . They can carry it in their flash drive / USB drive. Only the data base would get updated with the data. So in effect , One could access the updated documents by the means of a query.
    This should work in Windows environment

  • Getting a Word doc onto my Centro

    I haven't a clue where even to start even after reading the manual. I'd like to start putting MS Word docs (agendas, etc.) onto my Centro instead of wasting paper printing them out. I'm completely confounded. I can sync my Calendar and Contacts just fine to Microsoft Outlook, but I have no clue where to put a Word doc for it to get sync'd.
    Any help getting me started would be greatly appreciated!
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

    did your Centro come with Dataviz's "Documents To Go" software?
    Both my tungsten E and my Treo 680 came with it already pre-installed..
    If it did you also need to install the software for your computer (it would be on the CD that came with the centro).
    Once Documents To Go is installed it will put an Icon on your Desktop. When the software is open you can take any Word document and 'drag and drop' onto the program window.
    It will then convert it and assign it to be synced to your Palm..
    As a shortcut you can also 'right-click' on a document and "send it" to Documents To Go..

  • Grabbing word docs in iPad to print

    How can I convert word docs to PDF for printing out? As the system currently works printed documents are poor. Doesn't recognise bottom and following top margins so rolls over and cuts off a line - perhaps!!

    You can't convert Word documents to PDF in ANY version of the free Adobe Reader on any platform.
    You can do do this in Acrobat for Macintosh or Windows. Refer your question to the Acrobat forum:

  • How can I open Word doc. on iPad mini?

    I'm trying to open up a word document created on my macbook pro on my iPad through mail. I'd rather take my iPad to class then haul my 15 inch macbook
    I have tried emailing myself document as an attachment, and opening on my iPad but it won't come up. I attempt to click on the attachment and the option for "mail" pops up and it creates a reply with the attachment in it.
    I downloaded Documents and opened through there but my document shows up as blank multiple times. any other suggestions on what I can do, besides emailing myself the plain text not as an attachment? broke college student so I'd rather find a possible free way than purchase Pages

    Hi Garzas93,
    I use Office2HD. Its great for creating/viewing/editing Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. You can also connect Office2HD to work with your Dropbox account to sync across multiple devices...really handy to be able to work on a document at my office desk on my Mac, have it saved to my Dropbox folder, and then automatically see it in Office2HD on my iPad. No need to email it back and forth. It costs $7.99 but well worth it in my opinion. I understand the whole broke college thing... but $7.99 isn't much when you consider it'll last you a few years of college.
    If you only want free and if you have an internet connection in class, you could use Google Drive and create/edit documents there. It doesn't have as many features as Word but its a free cloud word processor.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Opening a PDF/Excel/Word Doc/etc file in an iView

    Hello everyone,
    I'd like to open an Excel or PDF or etc file in an iView.
    Ideally i'd just create a URL iview (by the way i'm on EP5 SP6) and then just use that to link to a static file.
    However, the issue i'm having is that we need to open the
    file that was last created within a directory. So i created the code to detect the most recent file. Now i have the RID of the most recent file but i dont know how to display it. response.write() only takes a String. How do i get the file represented by the RID i have and open it in the iView?
    Thanks alot,
    Ale

    Hi,
    Here's the code i'm using that prints 208 to the screen:
    IResource ir = ResourceFactory.getInstance().getResource(RID.getRID(theFile), rContext);
                                  String ext = theFile.substring(theFile.length() - 4);
                                  String contentType = "";
                                  if(ext == ".xls")
                                       contentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
                                  else if(ext == ".doc")
                                       contentType = "application/vnd.ms-word";
                                  else if(ext == ".pdf")
                                       contentType = "application/pdf";
                                  HttpServletResponse response = request.getServletResponse(true);
                                  response.setContentType(contentType);
                                  response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=DownloadReport" + ext);
                                  java.io.InputStream is = ir.getContent().getInputStream();
                                  java.io.PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
                                  out.println(theFile);
                                  out.println(new InputStreamReader(is).read());
                                  out.close();
    Any idea what is not working correctly?
    Thanks a lot,
    Alessandro
