Saving Files in Elements 10

I just loaded elements 10 last night, (after 2 1/2 hours on the phone with support doing a remote to my computer) and have noticed that after I save newly edited pictures, they are in a format that can not be opened in windows under "my pictures". Any words of wisdom? If I can't look at them on the computer, I probably can't print them out at the local photo store.
Thanks!

If you mean that you cannot see thumbnails of the images in Windows Explorer, the images are probably in the PSD format (PSE's native format) and Adobe refuses to provide the ability to show those thumbnails (as other companies do for their native formats).
Open those images in PSE and do a "Save As" and choose another format, such as PNG.
To prevent this in the future, pay attention to the format when you save an image -- the PSD format is used as the default, but you can select another format.
Added:
If you want to save the layers and effects to edit them at a later date, save the file as a PSD or a TIFF.

  • Saved files in Elements 9

I have created, worked on and saved a file in Adobe Elements 9. I am now trying to access this file again (In Elements 9) and I get a message stating that the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop? How is this possible? I have not worked in any other version?? All previous versions of this file are still accessible. Difference between those versions and the latest is the resolution of the base image. Can anyone help out with this?
    thanks

Hi DJ, thanks for the reply. The file is a .psd file and was initially created in Elements and saved from Elements as a .psd file. I spent a few hours working on the file, had left the file open after saving and put my laptop back on charge. An hour later I went to use the laptop again and it had closed all the programmes that had been open, Elements being one of them with that file still open. So when I restarted Elements, the file was not listed as a recently open file, so went through the normal procedure to open the file from the hard drive. The file was where it was supposed to be, recoded as last saved as the time that I had previously done it, and the blue PSE icon showing it as an Elements file exists at the left hand side, as per the other similar files. Problem is it comes up with the not compatible message. The file name is the same as other files that work, apart from a different number to represent a different version. Does Elements run a backup system like CAD programmes do?

  • Saving files in Elements 3.0 to a default file

I am editing about 300 pictures and am placing them in a folder for printing purposes. When I go to Save As.. I always get a particular folder but it is not the one that I want. Is there a way to set a default somewhere that will result in the correct folder showing right away?
I have tried Help, books that I have, searched this forum, etc. but cannot find what I am sure is a simple answer.

    Art,
The lack of an answer confirms my suspicion that PE3 persistently tries to save in the original folder.
Another option that I used recently on a large batch would be to use Editor's File/Process Multiple Files to put copies of all your source pictures into the target folder (probably as tif or psd files to avoid any jpg degradation and with no auto modification) and then edit the copies from there and go ahead and save over the copy. That way you won't have to keep changing folders on the save.

  • Saving files in .jpeg - Photoshop Elements 10

I suddenly got problems with saving files in .jpeg format. I use camera raw in my camera, and edit photos in Element, and then save a .jpeg version of the photo, and until recently that operation has went on without problems, but suddenly I got no other alternatives than .psd. Why?

    Hi,
Most likely reason is that the image is in 16 bit format not 8 bit - a JPG can only support 8 bit formats.
Try changing the mode: Image -> Mode -> 8 bits/channel
If you use RAW images, you can set the colour depth when yo first open the image (see center of window at the bottom).

  • How to get a gif file to loop in PE11 with MAC 10.6.8? 480x320x72 pix/in. saved layers for web, check animate, preview plays fine but saved file doesnt

can't figure out why the gif file won't loop. Set up 5 photo frames 480x320pixels x 72pix/in in PE11, creating a layer for each. Each layer visible. Saved for web. Checked animate. The preview plays fine. But when I save the file and then click on the saved file to play, it re-opens the layers instead of playing the loop. The only SAVE option that shows up is "IMAGES ONLY"
Using photoshop elements 11 on MAC 10.6.8. Either I'm setting this up wrong or is there a hidden setting I need to change?

Thanks for the thought, Barbara B. Not sure if this counts, but emailed the file to myself [different email account, same computer] but it would not play as an email attachment. Any suggestions for a web upload where I can test your suggestion? Seems like there should be a different save option other than IMAGES ONLY but that is the only option I'm given.

  • Can't open cr2 files in Elements 11 - win 7 64 - canon eos M2

I can't open my cr2 files in Elements or in Corels Aftershot Pro2. They open in Canon's digital photo pro but that's not much help.
    Any ideas?

"As has been stressed before," - but not to me and I never imagined that there was any "present converting software that can edit the raw files from cameras which will be issued tomorrow". What I did imagine was that old software is updated to include newer and newer cameras and this seems to be the case.
It's in my first post : "Since each new camera model has its own raw format," but I admit that the camera raw format is totally counter-intuitive, which explains why this questions is the most common in the Adobe feedback forum: Photoshop Family Customer Community.
The technical problem is that the ACR module is not totally an independent module you could update without updating the whole Elements version. If you look at the list of required ACR version for different Elements versions, you can see that the ACR version may be updated to a certain point, but that may depend on your OS version. Adobe's solution with the DNGconverter has pros and cons. It's an additional step, yes, but when you deal with large batches, it's less of a problem. Also some may find the DNG conversion useful. My raw files are 32 GB, when converted to DNG they are reduced in size and the time to open them is reduced. I like the ability to 'lossly compress' them, which is a much better solution than saving to jpeg.

  • Opening Nikon D7000 raw files in Elements 8

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 NEF files in Elements 8. I have been unsuccessfull in downloading the version 5.7 update from the web site. After downloading several times the files are still not recognized in Elements 8.

I am using Windows 7. I tried selecting the folder that contained the folder holding the pictures to be converted. I then single-clicked the folder holding the pictures and hit select. A message came up stating that the source folder did not contain any supported camera raw files.I have spoken with my Elements software supplier and this is his response:
"I've done some digging and it turns out the Nikon D7000 wasn't supported in elements until the release of version 6.4 Adobe Camera Reader. So to make sure you have the latest ACR update installed. You can check which one you have by going into elements and clicking Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw. And if it's not 6.7 then Help>Updates will find it and let you install the latest version. You could also try saving your camera files as .RAW instead of .NEF, and then opening them in elements. Adobe lightroom 4 should already have these plugins available right outside the box, but if you can save the money and run updates instead that would work just fine." I have checked for Elements updates for the Camera Raw plug-in and the message appears stating no updates are available. The camer raw plug-in version is currently 6.1.0.250.

What operating system are you using?
The most common cause is pointing the dng converter to the actual files and not just to the folder that the camera raw files are in.
There is an example of how on a windows system in this thread:

  • .MTS files in elements organizer: no thumbnails, not playing

Some google searching shows that i´m not alone with this problem, but i haven´t found a solution.
.MTS files plays in premiere elements (lagging terribly though) but not in elements organizer, where i get this error message:
Updated quicktime as suggested, no improvement.
Source of .MTS files is a Panasonic G5.
Running W7 64 bit. same problems in both elements organizer 11 & 12.
If it was a codec issue i assume it would not play in Premier elements either?
    Any suggestions?

    Hi A.T.
    1.  I'm using Premiere Elements 9.  I have an Asus laptop with windows 8.1
    2.  I believe i have the latest driver.  I have Intel HD Graphics.  I ran a check to look for updated drivers and it came back as saying I had the latest.
    Background
I've only had the laptop since October so that's how long the program has been on the computer.
I was able to use it a few days ago.  At that time I had been using video from the same camera but that time it I had saved it originally to the camera's internal memory.  When I had the problem last night it was with video I had saved to a memory card.  A message which I do not remember came up asking if I'd like to change the preset as my current settings didn't match the video format.  I said yes and then nothing worked after that.  I can't even view the project I did several days ago now either.
How I search for the presets?  I've never changed these before.
It is AVCHD file type and 1080 but I am unfamiliar with the how to know anything further.

You put yourself at a disadvantage by tagging on to an older thread and not starting a new thread of your own. I just saw your post now.
So let us get to the troubleshooting...
    1. What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
    2. This has all the symptoms of a display problem. Do you have the latest version of your video card/graphics card according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card? If so, we are going to need to delete the BadDrivers.txt file. But I need the information in "1" to tell you how to get there and do that.
    Some background information please....
    1. How long have you been working with this version on its current computer operating system?
    2. How would you class this issue "It worked before but not now" or "it never worked before"?
    3. What is your project preset?
    4. What are the properties of this .mts files...AVCHD video compression? 1080i or 1080p or other?
    More later in the morning.

  • Saved file goes back to old version after crash

    Hello everyone,
Has anybody had issues with Illustrator (5.5 or 6) with previously saved files crashing and going back to old versions? I've had it happen quite often. I start a new file, save it, close it. Next day or so I reopen, keep adding elements and saving in between. Next time, the same... Then it crashes and as I reopen the file it's back to day 1 or 2, rather than the latest times I've saved. Strangest thing ever!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Georgia

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. I was starting to wonder if it was just me having this issue. I'm saving to my work PC laptop (Lenovo), but has has this also on my Mac.
I've read about the network and external drives issue, but I've always avoided working anywhere else but my internal HDs. Not using graph tool but it's hard to narrow it down as I work on so many different projects at the same time. The latest file has been saved as something new and modified a couple of times (complex vector icons, but no shading/3D nor links). I do NOT have the "save compatible pdf"nor compression options enabled.
Other designers at work don't seem to have this issue, but they don't work with AI as often as myself, and mostly stick to the standard features.I would really like to figure this out as it's slowing me down and surely getting other people to wonder what I'm doing with my time (besides spending it here  ).
Is it possible Adobe is unaware of this problem???

  • Saving files in tiff

Help please. I am having issues with elements 7. When i save a flattened, layered file in tiff, the resulting image shows areas missing, complete layers.
however, when i save the same file in jpg, or even bmp, the image shows complete. this does not happen in my previous version 4.
    what the heck?? any suggestions?

Yes, i am saving the file in elements edit.
i opened these files, that are missing visible layers, in elements 4 also, then resaved, in tiff, the same thing happens, the sky part of the image is missing. The whole image shows when saved in bmp.
    thank you for asking vk.

  • PS4 Hangs when Saving Files

About 3 days ago, I started experiencing a problem with saving files.  It doesn't matter if I am saving a PSD, JPEG or if I am doing a regular save, batch or save for web.  Each file is taking over a minute to save.  I have never had this problem before, and obviously since I have alot of work to complete, this is unnacceptable.  Can anyone tell me (a computer novice) what I need to do?  Should I reinstall or could this be a computer issue and not a Photoshop issue?

    "PS4" ???
Photoshop 4 is ancient, about 15 years old.
Do you mean Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4")?  If so, is it fully updated?
    Or maybe Ps Elements 4?
Have you tried trashing Photoshop preferences yet?  That is the first thing to do when things "suddenly" begin acting up.
To (trash and) re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
We need accurate details on everything, such as exact version of Photoshop and the OS, how much hard drive space you have left, installed RAM, etc.

  • Can find supposed saved files

Using Adobe Photo Shop Elements 10 using Microsoft Windows 7.  Created slide show and saved it.  Pop up message says saved project is saved in my media browser.  After days of looking I can not find it.  Tried to create similar smaller slides shows and saved them.  Can't find them either.  Put "Media Browser" in search engine and nothing came up.  How do I find my saved files?

The "Media Browser" is the PSE10 Organizer's main screen.  Open the Organizer, make sure you select "Thumbnail View" as the display:

  • Cropped in Photoshop but saved file can't be seen in iPhoto browser??

iPhoto Preferences > General > Edit photo: > in Adobe Photoshop CS4
When I open an image in iPhoto, and right click to open in external editor, then crop the photo and Save As, the cropped image does not show up when I browse iPhoto. When I command-click the title of the PS file, however, it shows me that the cropped file actually exists inside the exact iPhoto folder where the original picture is.
I am having trouble understanding the basic idea of how iPhoto's library works and how PS CS4 interacts when you save an image.
I want to keep using iPhoto as my one and only library, but this kind of behavior is crazy making. Can someone shed some light, or point me towards the right thread?
    Thanks!

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Why are my saved files now xmp?

I'm using elements 10. I've been uploading to picasa, editing in elements, saving a psd file to picasa, then exporting to a folder as a jpeg. As of last night, my saved files are now xmp??? and are useless to me. I don't know what happened??? Please help me. Thank you so much!

PSE does not save your images as .xmp. Your images shoud still be there, in their original format.
These .xmp files are placed there for other reasons, usually when you edit RAW files in PSE/ACR.

  • Saving files to a specific folder

I used to be a PC, now I am a Mac, learning fast, but I have a problem in saving files from the web. I am using OS 10.4.7

Spring loaded folders: Drag a file to a flder, hold it over it and the folder will open. You can use this to drop files into sub folders and so on. The timing on how long you have to hold is controlled in the Finder preferences -> General Pane.
Another possibilty for your original question is to use Default Folder X, a shareware, that makes navigating open and close dialogues very easy.
