Saving files in Word format

Appleworks crashes on me every time I try to save something as a Word document. Anyone know why, is it supposed to do that? and how can i fix this problem?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
I can think of a couple of possibilities. There is probably some corruption of the AppleWorks preferences, particularly the translator cache. Each time AppleWorks crashes, there is more corruption. Another possibility is that you have moved the AppleWorks 6 application out of the AppleWorks 6 folder. Both of these are explained further in my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly. Also, go to HD > Users > username > Documents > AppleWorks User Data > Starting Points & delete the Cache folder. After all of this, restart AppleWorks.

I teach Continuing education classes to Real Estate agents and I need to issue them certificates at the class, whihc need to be signed by me and it needs to contain their info on the certificate. The certificate is currently saved in a word format. What i'm trying to accomplish is to do a "mail merge " ( as some classes i have as many as 150 attendees) for the document, digitally sign each one with my signature on the certificate and then e-mail it out to the respective attendees. can this be done? if so How?

This is the step that I took after inputting my signature.
On the right, after saving my document, I click "Get Others to Sign."  I was confused because it says that it's powered by EchoSign.  Like I stated before, my clients are able to sign this document when I send it to them, but it is returned to me with their signature (not in the signature field, but at the end of the document), and my signature is missing.  I tested this on myself - my signature is missing when they receive it.

  • Please, I need help - How can I generate a text file with Word format?

    Hello friends at www.oracle.com ,
is it possible for me to create a text file - that is, with TEXT_IO.fopen, and so on - that's already formatted as a Word document?
We have a Forms program here, where it's needed to generate a text file with .RTF format, 8 centimeters margin, Times New Roman font, with size 7.
    Best regards,
    Franklin Goncalves Jr.

    Hello Shay,
sincere thanks for your answer. And, to answer your last question, I'm using client-server model.
Since I couldn't create this .RTF file by using built-ins like TEXT_IO, I tried to generate an .RTF file using Reports, passing the parameters DESTYPE, DESNAME and DESFORMAT, as shown below.
    add_parameter (pl_id, 'DESTYPE', text_parameter, 'FILE');
    add_parameter (pl_id, 'DESNAME', text_parameter, 'c:\franklin.rtf');
    add_parameter (pl_id, 'DESFORMAT', text_parameter, 'RTF');
However, the just generated .RTF file is uncomprehensible. After opening the file at Microsoft Word, I can see the following message at the top of file:
This file was created by Oracle Reports. Please view this document in Page Layout mode.
... and informations doesn't appear as desired.
If I can't generate such text format by using TEXT_IO, and if generating an .RTF file through Reports shows me an incomprehensible result, how can I export the selected result to an .RTF file?
When Reports is opened, choosing Generate to file -> RTF doesn't export anything.
    Thanks, and best regards,
    Franklin Goncalves Jr.

    Hi Paul,
    Welcome!
    I'd like to help!
What type of document was it prior to becoming a PDF? Is it a scanned document? Perhaps a secure document?
Please provide more detail so we can troubleshoot together.
Also - here is a 'getting started' guide that may assist.
Looking forward to hearing back from you!

  • Saving documents as Word format

I save most of my work in Pages as Word documents so I can open and edit them on my Android phone as well. The only problem I have is that when I save an existing document, it does not automatically go back to the directory from which I opened it. A document saved in the default Pages format does this, so obviously the problem is Pages "remembering" the directory. I can manually find the right directory and all works OK, but is there any way you know of to make Pages remember automatically where the document was originally stored?
On a related note, the "last documents" option doesn't find Word documents either. Wonder if there is a way to get it to locate those as well?
    Thanks much!

That is a changed and inconsistent behavior. The expected behavior as Charles points out is that Finder notes the origin and sticks there.
It used to do the expected back at Tiger and has drifted off course ever since. In Preview it has at various times opened .eps files, converted them to .pdf, stripped off their name changing it to 'Untitled' and then dumped them in the Documents folder. You have the unending joy of going through your Documents folder trying to sort out the origins and names of all the "Untitled" pdfs.
I sometimes think there is a User Interface Annoyance committee at work in Apple now.

  • Converting a PDF file to Word format issue

I am using Adobe Reader XI 11.0.09 with the paid side bar to convert the pdf file to an editable Word 2007 format. The problem is that the formatting after conversion is really bad and getting worse, example of the most recient: "I n  a cont ingent circumstance, an effect  results  from  clearly definable causes, t hough t he effect could be  different, given an entirel y  possible and  different interrelation of  causes. In   short, a  contingent  event   or thi ng is a nonnecessa ry event or thi ng tha t either might  not  exist or could  be other than it is."
The conversion in the past was never this bad and I was hoping it was some setting but I have not found a way to tweak the settings in the converter. I have converted many pdf files and had no problems with the outcome of the conversion until recently.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • Saving files, location and format

I just recently purchased a macbook pro, with the aperture software installed, and have a question reguarding the files used in the program.
I know that when you import photos, you must put them in a project, however i would like to know where this project is saved. Also, when i delete a project, if it deletes just the project and any modifications i have made to the master photos, and what happens to the master photos afterwards. Does the non destructive format follow to this as well? What about if i import from memory card to aperature, does it save a master image, and then put it in a project, or what happens?
    Thanks

When you launch Aperture, it will create a file in the Pictures folder called "Aperture Library. aplibrary"
This location can be changed from within Aperture/Preferences, but Aperture will not move this library file to the new location. If you need to move it, use Finder. If you don't move it, Aperture will create a new library in your newly chosen location when you next start Aperture. To prevent confusion, make sure you move or delete (so long as there are no required images in it) an unused library file.
I know that when you import photos, you must put them in a project, however i would like to know where this project is saved.
Aperture physically stores all images within a folder structure within this library. The library is a package, and can be navigated in Finder by right mouse clicking and choosing "Show Package Contents." When you do this, and you've imported some images, you will see some project files projectname.approject. These again are packages (groupings of file/folders). If you open one of these packages you will see a folder per image (image name)which contains the imported image, some index files and any version files for adjustment versions you may have created. Note the size of the version files are tiny, as only the rules/parameters are saved, not the image data itself ... which remains unaltered and pristine in the image name file).
Hence non-destructive editing is achieved without significant impact on disk space.
if i import from memory card to aperature, does it save a master image, and then put it in a project, or what happens?
They will be imported into the above structure under a project you are pointing at during import with that project's name. The "master" will be copied into this project and 3 - 4 support files (all small), including one that is the template to become the first version you create as you make adjustments. NOTE: Each master, its support files (metadata, index, etc), version files are all stored in one folder per master within the project package. The master is not altered or stored in a proprietary structure and so can be copied out using Finder if necessary ... although Spotlight does not scan packages that I know of.
Also, when i delete a project, if it deletes just the project and any modifications i have made to the master photos, and what happens to the master photos afterwards.
If you delete a project, or a master image within a project, the deletion is NOT undo-able within Aperture. However, the deletions do go into Trash under a folder"Aperture" You can drag and drop images out of here and re-import, or drag the project out and re-import.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error message in SO8 saving file in SO7 format

If I open with SO8 a text file (*.sxw) SO7 document when I save the document keeping the sxw format I get twice this error message. Translated it is approximately:
    Error loading BASIC of document
    File:///opt/staroffice7/share/basic/WebWizard/script.xlb/
    General error
    I/O general error
after that the file is saved.
If I save the file in SO8 (*.odt) format no error messages
I use SO8 in Linux Mandriva LE 2005.

I tried to follow the hint in german you found. After several time I found this "path"
menu Tools -> Macro -> Macro management -> Star Office Basic -> it opens a window Star Office Basic -> I select ScriptBindingLibrary -> Manage -> tag Library then I cancel a wrong path to SO7 directory
    It seems working.

    Hi,
According to your post, an error occurred when you used the custom Documents Library(List Definition using sandbox solution).
Please check whether you have removed <ContentTypeRef/> in the <ContentTypes/> tag of Schema.xml file in your project.
Here is a sample about list definition deployed as a sandbox solution, you can take a look at:

  • Saving files in graphics formats

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSEC964A47-477C-4487-8CF4-332F92636117a.htm l

There are several areas, and in several Adobe programs, where setting are "sticky," and just the process of Opening a file, can change those settings, to match the parameters of that file. One example is the Font/Character Panel, where if I Open a DVD Menu PSD, with a different font, then close that Image, and Open another, the Font/Character will most likely have changed to that of the Menu. That has caught me several times, and especially when there are attributes, like Small Caps in the Menu PSD.
Good luck, and glad that Chris could help you,

  • UseCompExpr Error while saving file in older format

    All,
    I have a sequence that:
    1. Was Developed in TestStand 2.0.1
    2. I am opened in TestStand 4.0.1
    3. I want to save it back in version 2.0.1
WHY: Ease of use in newer TestStand GUI.
But I get a UseCompExpr error >>> unknown variable
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    thanks

The only place I know that UseCompExpr is used is in the test step properties.  It looks like the step types have changed since versions.  When you tried to back save it doesn't know what to do with that property or how to use it.
It's used in the String Value Test, Multiple Numeric Limit Test and the Numeric Limit Test.
Hope this points you in the right direction.
Honestly though I'm not sure what you are doing is supported or recommended by NI.  I can't speak for them though.  TS 3.0 was a major overhaul to TestStand and any version previous I consider ancient and wouldn't personally consider crossing that line.  My 2 cents.
