Saving GIF images

Hi,
I am trying to save a GIF image in Photoshop cc.  I want it to match other GIF's previously created from another computer.  Is there a way to view the way in which these other images were saved so that I can match my own GIF to match them.  I am refering to all the photoshop options with you save an image for the web (perceptual, selective, adaptive, diffusion, dither, etc.).
Thanks!

GIF doesn't store any meta information nor are the algorithms used for dithering actually part of the GIF image format. It's merely a means of achieving a better distribution of the limited color palette, but has to be built into the program creating the GIF. Therefore there is no way to determine which exact settings were used after the fact.

    David,
    Have you put in a support ticket for this? I recommend doing so since its occurring in your production environment. You should also attach your log files as well.

  • .gif Images saved as static images, not animated

    Using the most recent version of Firefox mobile on Android 4.1.2 on a Samsung Galaxy S3. I can download animated .gif images via Firefox to my phone and the saved file will display as a static image. If I download an animated .gif image with the proprietary browser the saved image will display as an animated image.
    Thanks in advance,

    Thanks for bringing to the notice, I'm filing a bug regarding this.

  • Quality loss saving an image in .gif extension

    Hello,
    I've a problem with Adobe Fireworks CS5 when I save an image in .gif extension.
    I open a .gif image with Fireworks and if I look at properties of image (tab optimize) these are: format: gif, palette: exact, number of colors 46.
    Then, if I would to save this image with another name, I press CTRL + SHIFT + S , and, in the dialog windows I choose: format GIF, palette: exact and I save with the new name.
    When I open the new file saved with Firework and I look at the tab optimize the properties are: format: gif, palette: exact, number of colors 14, and the image is a loss quality image.
    I want to know why when I save in .gif format there is a loss in the number colors?
    Can somebody help me?
    Thanks!

    Hi Linda,
    When I look at the color numbers in the Optimize panel, before to save in .gif it's 49.
    When I look at the color numbers in the Export Preview panel when i,m saving in .gif, it's 49.
    If I look at the color numbers in the Optimize panel, when I open the file that I exported in .gif, it's 14.
    The loss value is set to 0.

  • Saving a Gif image using JAI (Java Advanced Imaging)

    I'm trying to read in and save out a bunch of gif images in JAI. I'm reading them in, resizing them, and then saving them back out, all in gif format.
    For some reason some of my gif images work fine, and some don't throw any errors, but save as 0k size.
    When I do img.getColorModel().toString(); I get the following output for images that do work:
    IndexColorModel: #pixelBits = 8 numComponents = 3 color space = java.awt.color.ICC_ColorSpace@1bbf1ca transparency = 1 transIndex = -1 has alpha = false isAlphaPre = false
    And the following output for images that don't work:
    ColorModel: #pixelBits = 24 numComponents = 3 color space = java.awt.color.ICC_ColorSpace@1bbf1ca transparency = 1 has alpha = false isAlphaPre = false
    If I try to save the images that don't work out as jpg's they work fine, but if I try to save them out as gif's, I get 0k files.
    Any insight on how to correct this problem?
    I assume it has something to do with the 24 numComponents in the non-working gifs, but I'm really not sure.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    Can you post your image property?
    Try using this for image compression:
    int pixelSize = img.getColorModel().getPixelSize();
    if (1 == pixelSize) {
    tiffEncodeParam.setCompression(TIFFEncodeParam.COMPRESSION_GROUP3_2D);
    } else if (8 == pixelSize) {
    tiffEncodeParam.setCompression(TIFFEncodeParam.COMPRESSION_DEFLATE);
    } else if (24 == pixelSize) {
    tiffEncodeParam.setCompression(TIFFEncodeParam.COMPRESSION_JPEG_TTN2);
    Thanks,

  • How to decoding and encoding PNG and GIF images?

    I could decode and encode JPEG images using following create functions which are in com.sun.image.codec.jpeg package.

    But I dont know required package and functions to decode and encode PNG and GIF images. Please help me.

    1) Not sure if Java supports GIF saving, it might if you install JAI, or Java 6.

  • How to see all image types when saving an image without selecting "all files"every time

    <blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
    Please continue here: [[/questions/951766]]</blockquote>
    Hallo, and thank you for reading this.
    I am a person who saves a lot of images online and renames them in different folders in different names like B - 34 or G - 56. I have been working with firefox 10 for quite some time and it had a pretty handy bug (I guess) where I could save an image and firefox would just save the image in it's original type (JPEG,PNG etc) while "save as type" was empty.
    It also always has shown all the image types in the folder where I save the images (except for GIF) and that helpes me quite a lot by saving me the trouble of selecting "all files" every time I save or going to the folder to rename every image.
    Now this seems to be lacking in the newest firefox versions and my question is if I can set firefox to always show me all the image file types when saving an image, instead of only showing JPEG's when I try to save a JPEG.
    Thank you for your time.

    I suspect this is a Windows problem. I am surmising the FilePicker uses the Operating System or Desktop facilities. Does Windows 7 offer any other file categories like ''images'' ?
    I do not normally use Windows 7, but may the option depend upon the directory being an indexed one, I ask after finding this thread ''Bring File types tab back'' [http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/819]
    This question is a duplicate of [/questions/951764]
    Normally I would lock the duplicate question, but in this instance I will leave it open as it is unanswered and someone may give a better reply.

  • Not showing image in basic copy gif image icon and place on html page

    Trying to do a basic copy gif image icon and place it on a basic html page.
    The image shows up in my local page and shows on remote side but when I go to view in browser it does not show as a image. It shows the border but no image.
    The directions were (working with windows xp and IE8)
    Download the image to your C:\temp folder.
    4. Copy the gif file from your C:\temp folder and paste it in the same folder where your .html or .asp file is.
    I copied the image with right click save as in many different areas of computer. I even put on desktop.
    I add image and it shows on the site I am working in but when putting to remote side it does not view as an image on the browser.
    I have cleared cashe as well as pressed cntrl/refresh and still nothing.
    Other images work and show.
    on-line-vacations.com
    Thanks!

    Basic assumptions:
    You have Defined a site.
    All files reside within the defined site (including image files)
    All files use the appropriate file extensions, for example, image.gif
    You have saved and uploaded all site files to your server.
    You are EXACTLY naming the source image (no errant capital letters) in the link.
    If your other images are linking properly and showing, delete this image and insert it again (or re-link it to the image file within your site structure).

  • Using GIF images in iMovie11 ??

    Admittedly this is now my first attempt at using the iMovie8/9/11 editing structure since I was perfectly satisfied with iMovie06 HD and that timeline approach. In the old program I had GIF formatted images (Maps) that I had available in my "Photos" Media for adding to my Project timeline in the same fashion I would use a still JPG photo.
    After a number of hours searching the forum here and all the iMovie 9/11 documentation I can find, it appears  this new version of iMovie does not display GIF images in your iPhoto Media list to use for projects. Bottomline is I am not able to drag a gif map into my video project. It seems only JPG format files are now displayed in iMovie's iPHOTO Media source list.  I have one graphic that is a collage of photos and graphical objects which I had saved in JPG format to preserve the photo quality and that one shows in my Media list. No GIFs.  What gives?  I can open iPhoto stand alone and see my map graphics that are present in the database in their own Rolls.  I've tried dragging, dropping, importing, etc. with no success.
    This is a significant limitation (or bug) if the current version of iMovie does not allow free use of graphical images in GIF format. Can anyone shed some light on this and help solve my problem before I go back to iMovie HD?  Thanks in advance.

    I'm not in the position here to 'defend' Apples decision, but an expert as you should keep in mind:
    iM vers.≤6 was a completely diff app than iM vers. ≥08
    same name, from the ground different programs (not only on the outside)
    video isn't based upon limited 256 colors, nor has inserting a file-size-degraded still any effect on the resulting video-file size.
    Photoshop is a >1k$ professional tool, meant for stills - so, it should support a bunch of formats, including obsolete ones. iMovie is a 15$ consumer toy tool, by concept reduced in options to offer convenience - for a broad range of people - I dare to say, the majority of iMovie users dont even know the existence of 'gif', iMovies iLife partner for stills, iPhoto, is biased to jpg.-
    Klondike Kid wrote:
    … I guess I'll have to live without it for iMovie.
    on MacOS, there's little options, I haven't tried, but I wouldn't be surprised, if FCPX doesn't support gif either. pretty sure, Premiere as part of the Adobe CS suite, will handle it - somehow.
    happy movie making!

  • Gif images blurry - asha302

    Hello people. I have this issue with relatively large GIF images, they look blurred when I use the zoom-in. They actually don't zoom. I solved this using the editor and saving them as JPGS but I would like to know if this is something in common with all the Asha phones.
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    That is a bug in the ‘new’ gallery which was introduced 2010 with Series 40 6th Edition PR9.1. Some anti-alias filter is applied (to make JPEG look better, breaks GIF and PNG). By the way, if you zoom-in and zoom-out again, JPEGs get better. Or stated differently: Normal behaviour because that bug is not important to Nokia.

  • Script for saving GIF with Animation Loop Endless

    Hi,
    I am searching for a way to use  "save for web" in a Photoshop CC Script.
    I already found how to use the "save for web" using Script, but now i am stuck, because i cannot find any information on how to set
    that the animation, i want to save as a Animated GIF File, can be set to loop endless.
    I already tried to search in all the docs i found about scripting, but there is not a single information about saving gif with animation loop endless...
    thanks,
    Philipp

    When you do use "save for web" and select GIF, on the bottom right, the loop mode can be selected. But i think i wouldn't matter to me if it's being set before saving the image.
    I already tried to run the script, but somehow
    "charIDToTID('Ordn')" for example won't run. Is this the same as charIDToTypeID? because i found charIDToTypeID is a function, but charIDToTID is not...
    also the third line from the end, one of the functions seem not to work, i think....
    But already you given me a real good answer to what i may try to search for, since i did not actually know that this is set within the timeline, i always used the option within the "save for web" dialog on the bottom-right.
    I Solved my own problem ...
    I just made Photoshop CC with a script log everything, then gotten to this:
    function setLoopForever() {
    var idsetd = charIDToTypeID( "setd" );
        var desc5 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var idnull = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
            var ref2 = new ActionReference();
            var idanimationClass = stringIDToTypeID( "animationClass" );
            var idOrdn = charIDToTypeID( "Ordn" );
            var idTrgt = charIDToTypeID( "Trgt" );
            ref2.putEnumerated( idanimationClass, idOrdn, idTrgt );
        desc5.putReference( idnull, ref2 );
        var idT = charIDToTypeID( "T   " );
            var desc6 = new ActionDescriptor();
            var idanimationLoopEnum = stringIDToTypeID( "animationLoopEnum" );
            var idanimationLoopType = stringIDToTypeID( "animationLoopType" );
            var idanimationLoopForever = stringIDToTypeID( "animationLoopForever" );
            desc6.putEnumerated( idanimationLoopEnum, idanimationLoopType, idanimationLoopForever );
        var idanimationClass = stringIDToTypeID( "animationClass" );
        desc5.putObject( idT, idanimationClass, desc6 );
    executeAction( idsetd, desc5, DialogModes.NO );
    Works perfect!

  • Customizing Look and Feel (CLAF) - gif images/tabs disappear.Urgent!!!!

    Hi,
    I am trying to change the font colors in irec through CLAF responsiblity. But a strange thing is happening. Though the color is reflecting, the gif images are missing (logout, personalize etc) and the link text below it are appearing like breadcrumbs. Also , the tabs are completely removed and the tab labels are appearing like breadcrumbs. My CLAF is based on base-desktop.
    I also tried to create a new CLAF without any change in colors and saved it and attached to the profile and bounced the apache. But the gif and tabs are missing.
    Could someone tell me why is this happening. It is very urgent.

  • Importing GIF images and maintaining transparency

    I have an issue involving gif images where there is a transparent area that must remain transparent. When I import these images into FCP (6.0.4), the transparent area becomes white and looks awful... how do I fix this phenomenon?

    Does it really have to be GIF?
    Only 256 colors as opposed to the 16 million possible in a TV picture.
    Alpha channel is either on or off - meaning you can't have semi-transparent areas.
    Non-existent anti aliasing and horrible quality generally.
    Even with JPEG you are pushing your luck. JPEG compression can corrupt the fields in interlaced video.
    Saving money on cheap, quick graphics now means spending it later trying to fix what "doesn't look right". Guess what? It never will.
    TIFF is best, PNG will just about do it if not.
