Saving problem: resets compressor filter and unable to quit after crash

I'm not surprised there bug fixes are coming think and fast for Soundtrack Pro. I find it very unstable. No more so than when I dare to save! Firstly, it has an annoying habit of resetting the compressor filters gain to 0db when saving. I now rememeber this so I restore it's setting after saving. More problematic is when Soundtrack decides to crash/quit and offers you the options of reopening or sending a report to apple. None of these options work and you have to force quit. Fortunately the work has been saved when performing a save when this happens.
If there's a work around or a bug fix on the way let me know. Meanwhile I'll endure this tempremental but nice piece of software.

Have you trashed your FCP preferences yet? I think that would be step one. You can use FCP Rescue to make the preferences trashing easier.
http://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/
Choose the correct version to match your FCP version. In your case, that's the one listed as FCPRescue4.
Don't have FCP running when you trash the prefs. Then, the next time you start FCP, you'll need to reset all your FCP settings and preferences.
BTW, which version of QuickTime are you running?

Err... You only want to point the server to itself (127.0.0.1), IF you configure it (the server) to run DNS.
I tried to be clear about that, sorry if it was not.
You will continue to have a problem, if you point the server at the DynDNS name servers. I'll try to explain again.
You have an external IP that keeps shifting. DynDNS is a workaround for that. Normally, a server has a static IP. (I'm simplifying ALOT here for the purpose of illustration):
When someone "out there" on the 'Net tries to find "www.yourserver.dyndns.com", it queries DNS, the first server doesn't know the answer but passes the request onto DynDNS dns servers , and a reply is sent, "that server is at this IP address" and then the person's web browser loads the webpage served up by at IP address 6x.10x.xx.x (some publicly available IP, the one dynamically assigned by your ISP) which is where your server "ww.yourserver.dyndns.com", which is actually to be found. And hopefully your router is properly forwarding http requests (port 80) on to your server.
So then, if you point your server at the DynDNS servers, it will try to "find itself," and the answer is going to be that external, dynamic IP. Whatever it might be that day, is what the DynDNS server(s) will respond with. And that is not going to be a match, since your server is behind a Router doing NAT, and has an IP address of 192.168.123.1 for example. And nothing is going to do a reverse lookup for 192.168.123.1 either.
One way to resolve this, is to setup internal DNS on the server itself. Which is beyond the scope of this thread, I suggest searching this forum and reading up on it, after having read the Apple doc
    http://images.apple.com/server/pdfs/NetworkServicesv10.4.pdf
    starting on page 37.
Further thoughts: to change the hostname, you can use the changeip command, see page 50 of the command-line manual:
    http://www.apple.com/server/documentation/
and download the Command Line Administration PDF.
    in the Terminal: man changeip
for example, all on one line, if running as an Open Directory master:
    sudo changeip /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 192.168.123.1 192.168.123.1 oldhost newhost
The IP address is identical on purpose, if the IP is not changing, list it twice, that's the syntax. Old = new, in this case is all.
If running as Standalone, and changing the IP:
    sudo changeip - 192.168.123.1 192.168.123.2 oldhostname newhostname
You can use (this is described in the Command Line Administration PDF)
    serversetup -setHostname hostname
You could also edit /etc/hostconfig and change
    HOSTNAME=-Automatic-
    to =-your.servername.com-
To change the DNS server(s) used by your Xserve, use:
    networksetup
    man networksetup
    on the server itself.
    PS:
If you're charging a client for anything related to this, you need to learn about all of what we've been discussing in a real hurry, you should know it already (if charging for it), I mean this in a friendly (but steadfast) way. Start by reading the Apple documentation, it's a good place to begin.
And perhaps DynDNS has a way to handle "internal" (RFC1918) private IPs and external, publicly available IPs. I won't claim to know, first step I'd take would be to check their docs.

  • Version 9.0.1 bookmarks and history not available after crash and restart

I am getting this msg pop-up after Firefox locks after attempting to use Flash. It also states that some security software can cause the problem.

If the bookmarks and history are not available, probably places.sqlite in the profile got damaged. Close Firefox, open the profile directory, delete places.sqlite, then restart Firefox. The bookmarks should be restored from the bookmark backups.

  • Photoshop CS5 problem with missing menu and unable to click any tools

We have a user who was working on a couple documents. After backgrounding PS, they pulled it back to the foreground, but instead of the Photoshop menus appearing at the top, the tools palettes came up, but the menu at the top still says finder. They are unable to click on any tools or the documents. It's as if PS is unresponsive, but you can click to other apps and the spinning ball is not appearing. Activity monitor reports no hangs as well. We would to be able to save the open files, but are unable to do anything. Choosing to "hide" photoshop from the dock resulted in the documents hiding and now they will not appear again.
Can anyone point us in a direction that might help?
    Thanks,
    Scott

ForceQuit and Quit are options, but not a solution. I'm more interested in why it happens and when it happens, how to back out of it.
I asked if you are offered »Quit« or »Force Quit«. I have never seen them both offered in that pop-up.
In latter case you have no further options, I’m afraid.
In the first case you could try quitting all other applications … no guarantees that would help, though.
    As to why it happens:
How diligent are you with System maintenance, font validation etc. and are third party plug-ins installed?

  • Problem in audio driver and unable to install rescue and recovery ver 4.3 -

    Dear community collegues,
I have installed original windows7 home premium in my lenovo N100 series 0768-54A model y'day. Though every thing went well, the AC97 audio driver could not be installed. Can any one provide me a solution to make the audio working in Windows7 Home Premium.
Similarly after new installation, I could not install rescue and recovery version 4.3 (windows7 compatible) in to the system, every attempt failed. Could any one provide a solution.
    thanking You.
    Sakthivelu V M Chennai

I am not sure which audio chipset your N100 has, so
    Try this for sound:
    Go to THIS web page.
Download Soundmax audio driver for Vista.
Extract the files by double clicking, and note where they
    are being extracted to.
Uninstall any sound driver you have installed, reboot.
If windows says New Hardware Found, click cancel.
Go to folder where downloaded drivers were extracted,
    and run Setup.
If Soudmax drivers do not work, uninstall and repeat
    with the Realtek audio drivers.
I do not think Rescue/Recovery will work except for
    the originally installed OS.

This is a strange problem that I noticed the other day.
Whenever I open the lid of the Macbook (Intel Core 2 Duo) and it awakens from its sleep I can no longer click on anything and the dock disappears completely.

  • Internet browsers and mail unexpectedly quit

I am having a problem where Mail, Safari and Chrome unexpectedly quit every time I open them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; echo; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; echo; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -ef
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; echo; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -ef
    Step 4
    ls -A /e*/{cr,la,mach}* {,/}Lib*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -ef
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of login items' | open -ef
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Problem with Java keystore and certificates (unable to find valid cert path

Our program is made so that when a certificate is not signed by a trusted Certification Authority, it will ask the user if he/her wishes to trust the certificate or not. If they decide to trust the certificate, it will accept the self signed certificate and import it into the keystore and then use that certificate to log the user in. This works fine. It will import the certificate into the keystore and use the specified ip address to establish a connection with the LDAP server (Active Directory in our case) and authenticate properly. However, the problem arises when we then try and connect to a different ip address (without restarting tomcat, if we restart tomcat, it works fine...). It imports the certificate into the keystore fine, but always gives the exception
"Root exception is javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target"
    and does not authenticate with our LDAP server (which is Active Directory). The problem seems to be that it is no longer looking at the System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", myTrustStore);
I have tried multiple times to just reset this property and try and "force" it to read from my specified trust file when this error happens. I have also imported the certificates directly into the <java_home>/jre/lib/security/cacerts and <java_home>/jre/lib/security/jssecacerts directories as the java documentation says that it will look at those directories first to see if it can find a trusted certificate. However, this does not work either. The only way that I can get this to work is by restarting tomcat all together.
If both of the certificates are already in the keystore before tomcat is started up, everything will work perfect. Again, the only problem is after first connecting to an IP address using TLS and importing the certificate, and then trying to connect to another IP address with a different certificate and import it into the keystore.
One of the interesting features of this is that after the second IP address has failed, I can change the IP address back to the first one that authenticated successfully and authenticate successfully again (ie
I use ip 1.1.1.1, import self signed certificate, authenticates successfully
login with ip 2.2.2.2 import self signed certificate, FAILS
login again with 1.1.1.1 (doesn't import certificate because it is already in keystore) successfully authenticates
Also, I am using java 1.5.0_03.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I've been trying to figure this out for over a week now.
    Thanks

  • TS1398 I have been having network problems on my Ipad and I reset all network settings as advised in the article about problems connecting to networks.  Now my Ipad will not allow me to sign onto any network....it will not accept the passwords for any net

My ipad has been a little glitchy for the last couple of weeks....not able to load pages because of DNS lookup failure and really slow loading...some of which has to do with the DSL service I have, but I followed the directions on one of the Apple wi-fi issues pages to reset network all connections..which I did, and now the Ipad cannot connect to WiFi because it will not accept (or cannot resolve..or??) password.  I am sure I am typing the password correctly and have tried it on several routers..and it cannot cannect to any router properly even with the correct password.  My laptop is connected just fine and it accepts the password and I have confirmed the password with the ISP and tried other routers.
So the question is what should I do if I am entering the right password and the Ipad can't sign itself on to the Wifi network?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Whenever I try to update any apps or download a new one I get the following error message "unable to connect to iTunes". I have reset my iPad and router and also done the same with my iPod but get the same issue.....need some support please?

There are a number of threads from other people reporting the same iTunes connection issue, it looks like there might be a problem at Apple's end - but you could try logging out of your account on the iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if it then works, but it probably won't until Apple's fixed it
