Saving to DVD

I have saved my first iMovie project to iDVD as instructed in Help, but can't find any mention of how to put it onto DVD (for playing in a DVD player, naturally). A quick trawl through what seems to be the relevant Search Forum doesn't throw any light on it either.
Anyone who is not weary of answering this no doubt oft-asked question care to enlighten me?

OK, so here's what you do . . .
1. Make sure that you have iDVD open.
2. Find the movie file that you would like to burn. If you have already shared to iDVD in iMovie you should have an iDVD file.
3. On the bottom right there is a button that you can burn to disc, or, go to file and there are many other options.
Hope this helps and let me know of any other questions.

I need to submit my personal video on YouTube as part as a college admissions process. Since the DVD has other videos on it, I need to edit (delete) other parts of video so only the video I want is saved. In the selected video, I also want to delete a few second off the beginning and end.

  • F.C.E. Difficulties in saving to DVD - PAL

Having looked through this section and telling Apple that it was impossible to save via anything to DVD on the Pal side of the pond I reverted to PRINTING TO VIDEO and saving back to tape. The idea being, then to send that tape source to a combi Panasonic VHS/DVD player/recorder.
No prob in sending to the tape but when a new blank DVD was inserted in the DVD drive the message came up (on the Panasonic combi) NOT FORMATTED . Having looked at the instruction book at this point the DVD was FORMATTED and the video saved from tape in real time and full quality - no compression.
Guess with is kit I should have formatted the DVD before EXPORT in F.C.E. , Q.T. and iDVD - Sorry Apple

Thanks for the replys people - and I am not going to argue at all with any of your statements they all make sense but the system did not work for me with iDVD.
Having done one video successfully and trying to start another I now cannot get any audio tracks from the browser after capture. There is audio on two tracks on the player but in the system settings AUDIO is 'greyed out'. This has happened after the last experienc and I cannot reset even by re-intsall.
At the risk of overstepping I would value any help on this one please

In the meantime I am evaluating the 'cheaper' and without installing / working / DVD problems and possibly send Adobe discs back for full refund.
My Laptop is fast enough and well kept - not other 'larger' programmes have any problems running or installing [Stenberg Cubase Pro, Flight Simulator X and so on] only Adobe programmes!
I am really getting tired now.
    Regards
    Mobon

    Hello
All problems are carefully separated - not all together, since I am a tidy person by default.
It is very simple and not confusing.
I actually have one main issue with PE7 and PPE7 [which I hope they will care of] and a series of small teething problems as many in these forums have on Premiere 10 since installation because Adobe programmes have 'basic' problems even loading / reading/ converting its own created files.
I looked up for Premiere Elements problems on-line [on external forums] and I can see so many problems and people opting for alternative programmes or getting 2 or 3 different programmes to do the job faster and better - that confirms my thoughts.
I am not here to stir things up [if by any chance you are thinking that], but I am merely trying to use a PAID and SUPPOSED to be GREAT program and it is clearly not my friend.
But if I get pushed up around and treated like a non-in-the-computer-field-person, then I might 'need to' stir things up with 'proves'!
I have been working with computers Hardware and Software since 1975 with the Sir Sinclair Spectrum .
So, I do know one thing or two by working 'manually' and without the 'easy' mouse clicking [!] and my main job these days is to actually fix People's messed up computers, recover data, erase data, etc. and often I find either Apple's or Adobe's programmes not working properly [being the main problem on slower computers] and users tried to fix them and messed things up!
Mainly is Apple programmes [ iTunes is one!] on Windows environment - just pure mess.
In fact I do not keep ANY Apple Programs on ANY my computers any-more and by adding the blooming QuickTime - it actually adds 3 'mostly not needed' applications that must be run in the background only slowing down 'most standard' computers and 'mostly' for no apparent reason but needed by Premiere Elements 10.
Adobe Acrobat Reader too is a kind of an offender in that sense, which I do not use any-more in favour of an alternative and very light program that does not invade your computer.
I could be talking about the above for days ...
The fact I do not know Premiere 10 very well and I am having some teething problems with 'Adobe Premiere Elements 10' does not make me a lower being or anything to the like or even put me aside the forums for being realistic and a human being most of all.
I simply am an  Intermediate / Advanced / Professional Computer User / Repairer [depending on which subject] trying to fix this non-working-properly Adobe's program and get on with his life.
You as an employee perfectly know what I am talking about, the Adobe numerous problems with Elements and pro and the clever Marketing and money making tool Adobe has created around it and I do understand you must keep Adobe's side - of course and that is not a problem at all.
BACK TO THE ONLY PROBLEM THIS THREAD IS OPEN FOR:
Having said that, in the meantime I seem to have solved it myself [as I do most of the time], at least for now.
I am sure many other problems will arise.
    My Solution that worked:
I simply clicked on the time-line [bottom] and then clicked on top menu TIME-LINE [if I am not wrong, it was late night and I might be wrong - do not crucify me please!] and MERGE CLIP and then I let the program do the job I purchased for.
Days ago using the Trial Version [before I purchased Premiere 10] I already read that Premiere does not like either large gaps [I did not have] or even simple clip cuts not merged and it did have 'loads' of problems, but most of them were solved by 'users' mostly.
Anyway, that seems to have done the trick, even thou it did take around 4/5 ours to do 3Gb ! Why?
    My computer is fast.
But I have not checked or burned the files yet - so, I do not know100% - just yet, I will check later on today.
I believe Adobe must prepare a Service Pack with 'Loads' of fixing, there is no place to hide and that may convince users to even 'spend' and buy the PRO version - the ball is in your court now.
I cannot believe Premiere is having so many small teething problems and I am only doing a BASIC test and I can see the vast majority of users of Elements Programs going literally insane and only us, the more Techy ones coping.
    Regards
    M
PS the fact you see an avalanche of problems with my installation is actually normal.
That is because I am a 'fast' and organised Computer Technician which gets on with things and I usually do this with all new programmes to get rid of the possible initial several small hiccups, that other Companies usually fix with Patches - not Adobe, it seems - at least with Premiere elements.
In the last few years are mainly with Adobe Programmes. It is the only way to get the 'basic' program problems fixed straight away, so I do know the next time I run it actually works!
    ADDITION:
    IT WORKS!

  • Saving a DVD as a file

What is the best software/way to save DVDs (I bought) on my computer so I can see them anywhere without the CDs ?

If the DVDs are copyprotected and copyrighted, as most are, they cannot be copied or saved to a harddrive legally.
Anything beyond that is outside the scope of this board.

  • New computer, itunes 7 trouble, music saved on dvd--how to get it to work?

I bought a new computer. On the prior computer had itunes 6. The music was saved on a data DVD, and it is also still on the ipod. New computer, installed itunes 7 and the same problems others had-- freezing and locking. Have yet to be able to put music on new computer.
Much time spent. Uninstalled itunes 7 and reinstalled 6. Still with freezing. Uninstalled 6 and quick time and prior to that delelted ith .itl file. reinstalled 6. Was able to load a music cd into the library,as a trial, and it loaded. HOwever, when I tried the data dvd to reinstall the library, froze again. Currently have unistalled itunes, QT, and cant find andy ipooder update. I have a new itunes folder with itunes music library, itunes library.itl and and itunes music file in it. Within this file was the trial music (and therefore is a back up).
    1) any ideas on what to do to get itunes 6 running (and right). No itunes 7 for me until all the other problems figured out.
    2) if no answer to 1), is there a way to comtact tech suport at apple to get help. I cant even find that.
    Thanks
Im running windows xp an a gateway with computer associates security.

Sounds like a part of a plan. However:
1.Should itunes work so I can use by CD/DVD
drive--and how should I set up my itunes 6 so that it
    does work.
    2. Along the same line, since I dont have any music
on my computer yet that I need to save or protect,
and considering all the hassles I (and everyone) has
had so far, any suggestions on what steps to take?
    Thanks
Dale I'm not sure I understand your questions. I'll respond with what I think you may be asking.
It should not make any difference if iTunes is installed and working in order to transfer files from your DVD to your hard drive.
First create a new folder on your main drive and give it a name. Then put your DVD in your drive. In My Computer right click on the drive your DVD is in and chose Open or Explore. You should now see all the files that are on your DVD. At the top of this window select Edit and in the drop down menu click Select. All the files will highlight. Select Edit again and click Copy this time.
Now go to the folder you created on your main drive. Right click on it and select Paste. All the files from your DVD should now transfer into the new folder you created. Depending on how many they are it may take a bit.
I don't know what format these files are in as you never made any mention of that. If they were iTunes protected format you won't be able to use them without iTunes. If they are MP3 you should be able to play them using any player that is installed on your system that plays MP3 format.
If these files were your entire iTunes Library before let me know.
Sorry it took so long to reply. I was in the mist of a reformat and was offline for a bit.
    Hope that helps.

  • Error message/ saving to dvd

I have made a movie in iMovie and saved it onto a DVD. But when I try to load the DVD back on my computer, I keep getting the following error message:
The project could not be opened, because the disk is full, the folder is locked, or the folder permission are incorrect.
If the project is on a CD-ROM, network server, or locked disk, the n copy it to your hard drive before opening it.
If the project is already on your hard disk, then the disk may be completely full, or you may not have permission to modify that folder. Correct the problem and try again.
Does anyone know why I'm getting this error message?

yes, that's where i'm stuck... if you ever find out why it's doing that- please let me know- i have made other discs without a problem but there's just one that's creating this mess for me. if I had to take a wild guess, i think it has to do with the movie file size- the one i'm having problems with is right around the limit of the dvd...

  • Saving/burning dvd/cd

How can I manipulate my work after I save/burn it to dvd? Is there a way to save it on cd so I can come back later and work on it again? I have noticed that once I burn it to DVD I can no longer work with it.
    Thanks

When you burn video, iDVD and similar authoring tools encode your video to MPEG2 and burn the DVD. While this can be converted back to DV (using a utility such as MPEG Streamclip) the result will be a loss of quality and, perhaps more importantly, the converted file will not be usable with your original FCE project file.
The only way to do it and preserve the original quality of your video and use your original FCE project file is to use the Finder to burn your clips as files to DVD media (aka data DVDs as opposed to playable DVDs). But understand that DV video takes ~13GB per hour so you would be limited to 15-20 mins of clips per single-layer DVD.
It's too cumbersome a method to use for future editing. You will be better off getting a good external firewire hard drive to archive video you intend to re-edit in the future. Save your FCE project file and all source material (video clips, photos, music, etc). You should also save the last 3-4 of your autosave project files as backups. You don't need to bother saving render files or cache files.

  • Reconstructing a project saved on DVD

I saved a 3GB project to dvd using file/burn project to disk. How do i reconstruct that project? I did the following
    1. inserted DVD into superdrive
    2. opened iMovie HD and created a new project
    3. file/import
    4. selected the QT file in the finder
    5. Get error message QT cannot parse it error 1409

Sorry, what I mean is that you cannot import one iMovie project into another iMovie project. When you try it, iMovie gives you the message that it 'cannot parse it.'
You should see an iMovie icon on the DVD. You cannot drag that project icon into another iMovie project.
Within the DVD, you can just open the iMovie you have saved there, or you can drag it onto your desktop and open it there. If you want to just keep working on that same movie, you can do so. If you want to move some of the clips to a new iMovie project, you need to select those clips and either drag them manually into the new iMovie or Copy them and Paste them into the new iMovie.

  • Saving completed DVD menu to computer

Is there anyway of saving a completed DVD menu to my computer without burning it to disk? Saving it as a quicktime movie?
    Kind regards,

True. Trick is figuring out which file is the menu. But the menu still won't do anything. And the menu's overlays won't be active, most, if built in DVDSP, will not even be visible.
Anyone know what the OP is trying to do? Save a template, maybe?

  • Saving from DVD to my hard drive?

A friend sent me a DVD of her kids being interviewed on the local news channel. I'd like to save the clip to my hard drive. I've looked at both iMovie and iDVD but neither of them seems to be appropriate for my situation. All suggestions gratefully accepted

Ok, does it play using the DVD player application? If so, then you have video that is in the format that DVD players understand called MPEG-2. Look at the contents of the DVD using finder. Do you see VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders? If so, simply copy those 2 folders somewhere to your hard drive in a new folder. Then you can use the DVD player application to play the video by opening the folder that the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder are in.

  • How do I import images created in earlier versions of Aperture and saved to DVD as an Aperture library into Aperture 3.2.1?

When I insert the DVD into my MacPro the disk appears as though it is blank, with the little 'burn' icon in the top right
When I insert the DVD into my macbook it shows the full Aperture library structure and when I allow file sharing between the machines the MacPro can also recognises the files
I suspect I am making a basic error somewhere as the images are clearly all there.  This doesnt just occur for one DVD, I have dozens that are all perfroming in the same way when I try to import files created in an earlier version of Aperture back into the version I am now using, 3.2.1
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Reiss.

To get the old library into Aperture it will need to be upgrade. To do this you will need to copy the library off the DVD onto our HD and then open Aperture on this library. Aperture should then upgrade the library to the latest version.

  • Saving a DVD

so, ive heard that quicktime can't play DVDs, but what program is a good program to use to save a DVD to your computer?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm unclear what GMA is, but assuming you legally own the content to post to YouTube, then try Handbrake which converts the file to mp4 which can then be uploaded or editted in iMovie.

  • Can't retrieve iMovie project saved to DVD for storage and editing.

When I save my iMovie project to DVD for storage and possible future editing, I cannot retrieve it from the DVD. I get the message, "The project could not be opened, bacuase the disk is full, the folder is locked, or the folder permissions are incorrect..." How do I remedy that?

    the folder is locked
iMovie projects won't work with locked volumes (such as a DVD!). So you must first copy the project to the HD.

  • Can TV Shows be saved to DVD?

I inadvertently posted this on the Snow Leopard discussion forum, when I actually meant to post it in the iTunes forum.
This has most likely been asked before, but appropriate threads on this subject are difficult to find. SO... I'll ask:
If I have purchased TV shows from the iTunes Store, am I able to burn them to DVD for archival purposes? Not for watching on a regular TV, but just to have on disc as a backup. Is this possible?

Sure. You can burn them to a DVD just as you would any other data file.
