[SC 3.3] Zone-Question

Hello @all,
I've created a failoverzone:
zonecfg -z bstzone
create -b
set zonepath=/zones/bstzone
set autoboot=false
add net
set address=10.253.156.54
set physical=vnet0
end
commit
exit
Within my cluster I've create a logicalhostname ip ressource:
clreslogicalhostname create -g bst-rg \
-p Resource_project_name= \
-p Failover_mode=SOFT \
-p R_description=Failover\ network\ resource\ for\ bst831 \
-N ref@1,ref@2 \
-h bst831 IP_bst831
and the zone ressource:
cd /opt/SUNWsczone/sczbt/util
cp -p sczbt_config sczbt_config_bstzone-bt-rs
vi sczbt_config_bstzone-bt-rs
RS=bstzone-bt-rs
RG=bst-rg
PARAMETERDIR=/etc/zoneagentparams
SC_NETWORK=true
SC_LH=IP_bst831
FAILOVER=true
HAS_RS=bstpool-dg
Zonename="bstzone"
Zonebrand="native"
Zonebootopt=""
Milestone="svc:/milestone/multi-user-server"
LXrunlevel="3"
SLrunlevel="3"
Mounts=""
./sczbt_register -f ./sczbt_config_bstzone-bt-rs
Now my problem:
Whenever I disable the logicalhostname ressource IP_bst831 ( which is "mounted" into the zone )
my zone is going offline!
What I want is if the zone is started, the logicalhostname IP_bst831
should be mounted into the zone and when I disable the logicalhostname IP_bst831
the zone should stay online!
The cluster group itself is created with Implicit_network_dependencies=FALSE.
Please keep in mind: bst831 != 10.253.156.54
Any help would be appreciated!
Regards,
Heinz

Hartmut,
now I'm able to register the zone:
RS=bstzone-bt-rs
RG=bst-rg
PARAMETERDIR=/etc/zoneagentparams
SC_NETWORK=false
SC_LH=
FAILOVER=true
HAS_RS=bstpool-dg
[root]/opt/SUNWsczone/sczbt/util: ./sczbt_register -f ./sczbt_config_bstzone-bt-rs
sourcing ./sczbt_config_bstzone-bt-rs
Registration of resource bstzone-bt-rs succeeded.
Validation of resource bstzone-bt-rs succeeded.
But the logicalhostname IP_bst831 is not imported into the zone!
I think because parameter SC_LH= is empty and has to be set to the LH resource IP_bst831.
Maybe I have to play with the Recource_dependencies parameter.
I'll try it with different settings and if I'm successful I'll post the answer.
Thanks for your help!
Regards,
Heinz

  • Another DNS Zone Question! :)

    I have several geographic sites all with their own leopard servers (ten or so). Each are open directory masters managing public ip subnets. We do have an external dns server and all of our servers have registered names that are part of the same domain....
    My question is this... when setting up dns on each server, do I need to create zones, or can I just make the dns forward to our external name server. I am worried that having more that one ns authoritative for the same domain will cause problems with our isp dns server? I have one server running just fine without zones... just forwarders ... and all is running smoothly, ical, wiki's, mcx, mobile accounts, etc...
    Looking forward to finding out whether having zones at other locations and authoritative dns servers is a bad thing or not.
    Thanks.

    As long as the external DNS server has all of the info you need, there's no need to set up duplicate zones on your servers; as you note, it could even cause problems if the info got out of sync. In fact, you don't even need to act as a forwarder, you could just turn off DNS service and configure all your computers (servers & clients) to use your ISP's DNS servers.
    In your situation, I see two reasons you might want to run DNS service: in case your internet link goes down (losing access to DNS tends to make it hard to find servers, even if they're on the same LAN), or if the public DNS servers don't have the reverse DNS (IP number -> domain name) entries you need. If you're worried about the first, you could set your servers as secondaries (aka slaves) for the relevant zones, in which case they'll download the zone files from the master and automatically keep in sync. If the second is an issue, you're probably best off bugging your ISP -- since the reverse records are tied to your IP numbers, and those're "owned by" the ISP, they're generally in charge of the reverse DNS no matter who's hosting your forward DNS zones.

  • Start/End Time zone question

    Good afternoon:
    This I understand: If I have time zone support enabled in iCal and I have an event in the Chicago at 10:00 am, I enter it in as 10:00 am and mark the time zone as CST. That way, when my Treo and I are in Chicago, the event appears on my Treo at 10 as it should and not at 9. (EST, where I live.)
    When I travel, I use my calendar to enter the flight times.
    For example, I might enter an event like this. "USAir Flt. 235, PHL to LAX" I would use 11:00 am as the start time and set the end time as 2:30. The 2:30 is PST and not EST.
    Is there a way to show that an event can start and end in different time zones?

    Good Afternoon:
    Yes, I can enter a travel time as a beginning and and end seperately, but that doesn't allow me to see the duration as occupied.
    I know I must sound like a loon, but I like that if you designate an event as taking two hours, those two hours are "marked or occupied" on my calendar and scheduling something else during the occupied period is easily seen as a conflict. It may seem odd, and I guess it is, that I might accidently schedule an event at the same time I was going to be in the air, but it is really a matter of wanting all the events in iCal to be treated the same way....as events/activities/meetings that consume time instead of a singularities that take place in an instant.
    Does that make sense?
    USAir Flt. 235, PHL to LAX is a six hour event...not something that happens only at the instant of 11:00 am. I would like to be able to see it as that and have it make sense.
    Perhaps I should turn time zone support off, then it wouldn't matter, it just seems like ti should.

  • Quick time zone question

    I am using Java to do some date/time formating and have a quick question.
    Is Indiana's timezone "IET"? I know most of Indiana doesn't observe daylight savings time, but they are eastern when things are normal... IET seems to produce the correct time, but I just wanted to double check before I make any assumptions. Thanks for the info.

    Actually it is "America/Indianapolis". Those three-character abbreviations have been deprecated because they are ambiguous (both North America and Australia have "eastern" times, for example).
    If you have a Java 1.4 SDK, then have a look in this directory:
    C:\j2sdk1.4.1\jre\lib\zi
    (modify according to where you actually installed the SDK); each file in that directory tree represents a timezone.

  • Drop Zone question

    Hi, using DVDSP4, I created a drop zone, then dropped a still photo asset into the drop zone. I need to now move the asset, that is, show a different portion of the asset in the drop zone. How do I do that? THANKS!

    Didn't want to start a new thread....
    I'm just a recent beginner with DVDSP4. I have the same problem more or less. I followed Colin's post instructions above, which appear to be the same as in the User manual page 276.Neither method really works.
    My situation is that I can position my 6 x 8 landscape format photo easily horizontally as per these instructions, but but not vertically. No movement possible up and down. The heads of 2 people are still cut off, although there's plenty of headroom around these people in the photo.
    Just can't figure out what to do, or what I'm doing wrong.
    Regards. Robert

  • DNS Zone question

    Just a quickie...
    I'm playing around with a Mac Mini Server and testing out different methods of setting up. I've noticed that when using setup assistant, if I specify that the DNS Server is the OSX Server's IP then the DNS Service is automatically configured.
    It creates a zone called macserver.testserver.private. I was expecting the zone to be called testserver.private containing an A record for macserver.testserver.private. That doesn't seem right to me!
    Is there any logical reason behind this?

    Yes, there is a reason; you've got a zone of testserver.private containing the host macserver. It's common practice to have a domain and TLD; your domain is "testserver" and the intentionally bogus TLD is "private".
    Regardless, what you likely want is a registered domain or subdomain (so that you never collide with another real domain or with one of the added domains), and you'll want to set up DNS for your particular requirements rather than the default install. I'd get out of the private TLD.
    There are many differing set-up requirements and a gazillions options within DNS, and here are some [DNS set-up instructions|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436]. These presume use of Server Admin to configure DNS, which is compatible with but a more detailed and flexible alternative to Server Preferences.

  • "ZONE" question of  Solaris 10

    Hi,
    Recently i'm reading the administrator guide of solaris 10, I found the new concept of virtual server is "ZONE" in sol10. But I don't understand what different is it which compared by "vPartition" of HP and
    " DLPAR" of IBM.
    Who can help me to explain these different items of such ones??
    Thanks advance,

    IBMs LPAR and DLPAR technology are ways of carving the physical hardware up into subsystems. Each "subsystem" is an entirely independent OS and that means you end up having N full copies of the OS installed that you have to maintain.
    I don't have familiarity with HPs vPartition to give you any useful feedback on this.
    Zones are a different path altogether. The global zone is the master and each local zone can either share the OS (shared root) or have its own OS (whole root). The IP stack can be independent or shared between the GZ and the LZ. The beauty is that the zone itself has minimal overhead and some applications might run faster in a zone than outside of it.
    The gz can see all of its local zones.
    IBM has WPAR technology. On the surface it looks like it might be very similar to zones.
    Cheers,

  • Basic Title safe and action safe zones questions

    1.) Why is it that a title needs to be within the inner square, otherwise it may not display on a TV, though action can still take place in the outer square outside the title safe zone and it is still fine?
    2.) Do these zones apply to CRT televisions, LCD, Plasmas, and video intended for being displayed through a projector the same way?
    Thanks.

    1. Safe area and safe title were developed many years ago, back when folks had TV sets with rounded corners. There was a real risk that a title would not be displayed in full if it went outside the boundary.
    Pictures are interpretated differently to text. If say, someones left shoulder and arm are out of picture, it is obvious what is missing. An incomplete title can easily be misunderstood or not understood at all.
    2. Unless you have absolute control over the device which will be displaying your movie, apply the rules to everything.

  • Recieving email notifications for classes

    Heya all,
    Ok i have a adobe connect pro account and i hold classes everyday and 2 timezones so my appointments are alot.I have so many projects that i need to be reminded via email when a class is going to start .........either a notification on the day or a time frame you can choose...a setting that you can choose when you recieve a notification via email prior to the class....i can not find anything in the settings to activate such a feature...the only notifications i can find are for errors etc............also because the net is global why isnt there an option to set a timezone in the invitations?....i meen if iam for example in australia and want to send an invitation to someone in the states..the current settings will send the timezone thats default for the invitation...........i think the ability to set a timezone or multiple timezones of choice for invitations is important...................but definetly if there is a setting to recieve email notifications of classes for the day could someone let me know?.....because at the moment iam having to use google calender for this and it would be nice to have eveything in one app.....thanks

    First, as to the calendaring issue, you are doing this in the best way possible. This may change with Connect 9, but that is hearsay at this point. So, unfortunately, a calendar external to Connect with links to the class that will be in use is the best way to achive the notifications or reminders that you are looking for.
    Second, for the time zone question, the event will show in the time zone for the user(s) accessing it. Since your Connect ID is set to your local time zone, when you create an event it puts it in that time zone. If people then use the events module to register, the system will send them an invite with an ical attachment, if you leave it on, that should associate to the correct time zone on their local calendar. One relatively simple solution is to edit the text on the confirmation email to list the equivalent time for multiple time zones across the world.
    For Example:
    Time of class: 8P AEST (GMT + 10), 10A GMT, 6A EDT (GMT -4)
    This way people can associate their time zone to the appropriate time for the class.

    Hi, Hush17277 -
    Re being able to access the Apple Store on the internet, you should be able to access the main Apple Store via the "Store" link at the top of this page - unless your country's government has required that the ISP's which operate there restrict access to it. As to being able to make a purchase, however, that depends upon credit card agreements between card issuers and nations - this has nothing to do with Apple.
    Re the ability to purchase songs from iTunes, apparently that is a matter of permissions from the particular nations' governments involved as well as licensing-for-sale restrictions by the publishers of the music. It is only relatively recent that such became available in Europe and Canada. This, too, is not an Apple issue - I suspec that if it were up to Apple, there would be no obstacles to anyone purchasing songs from the iTunes Store anywhere in the world.
    Re the Venezuela time zone question, apparently Venezuela has decided to go its own way -
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7134927.stm
    - there is no way that Apple, nor any other computer or software vendor, could have forseen that happening.
    Re the iPhone, its availability is subject to obtaining agreements between Apple and cellphone service providers. If no service provider in a given area is willing to enter into an agreement with Apple, at terms sufficiently advantageous to both parties, then the iPhone will not be available in that area. In addition, most nations' governments have a say in approving such agreements; if a nation's government declines to approve such an agreement, it won't happen.
    There are a lot of international contact points available for Apple products. These pages list many of them -

  • Photos coming out darker with a white backdrop when taken outside

    I am trying to take some photos of my product outside because the light seems to be better at picking up all the colors than when I've taken them inside but now when I'm taking the photos with the white backdrop they are coming out darker than when I had the backdrop painted lime green. I took the photos at 8am right when the sun had the  backdrop lite up the most I live in Florida for time zone questions. the other photos where taken at 9:30 and they came out a lot better but had a glare in them.should I go back and paint the backdrop green again or have any other ideas. PS I have adobe Photoshop elements 9. any idea on how to take out the glare in a photo when taken outside. and is their a website that can tell me when the best time is to take an outside photo in my region

    think you for all you help but one thing im still confused about is northern light. does that mean to have the item placed to the south west to have the sun to the north of the item?
    Northern light means that the only light falling on the product is coming from the North sky (in other words, your product is in the shade of the house).  Specifically for your speargun products, your setup will be like this:
    Get a medium gray background larger than your spearguns.  This is especially important if some of the guns are camouflaged.  If you can't find a cloth backdrop from a photo supply house, look in some fabric stores.  If not, then get a couple of 30in. x 40in. sheets of matte board from an artist's supply store.
    Place the product and background in the shade of your house, waiting until the shadow of the house is long enough so that your camera will also be in the shade.  (A side benefit is that you'll be cool. )
    Put your camera on a tripod.
    Set the camera and tripod in the middle of the speargun, moving the camera back until the complete speargun is in the picture when using a "normal" focal length lens.  You can slightly decrease the focal length to the wide angle setting if necessary to get the whole speargun in the picture, but be aware that the more wide your lens is, the more the product will be distorted.
    At that point, you should be good to go.  Let the camera use its automatic everything to take the picture and it should look good.  If you want, you can also experiment with a couple of shots using flash as a fill-in light, but that might cause some glare off parts of the speargun.
    The photos will have two things happening that slightly complicate matters:
    Northern light will be bluish because the light source is the blue sky. That blue cast will be over the entire image, so you can quickly and easily use PSE to remove the blue cast because you won't have to select anything -- just remove the cast from the entire image.
    Depending on what you use to support the speargun on the background, you might get shadows, etc., and want to then separate the speargun into its own image with a transparent background.  Using a gray background will make that process easier because selecting the gun will be a snap.
    Hope that's not too much info to absorb....
    Ken
    P.S.,  Depending on what the original colours are, you can easily use PSE to "pop" the colours before saving the images as PNGs for the Web.

  • Question re Zone Alarm and WRT54G admin page display problem

    First - thanks to all who posted about Zone Alarm - I was going to exchange my router this weekend - I spent an hour on the phone with tech support and she was trying to get my router updated with v9 through a roundabout way, but I kept getting an error that said my Flash could not be erased - so she thought the firware on my router was somehow corrupted. But I'm definitely going to check out the Zone Alarm idea first.
    My question is - can someone tell me exactly how to disable Zone Alarm? I thought I had done so, but I guess not - I'm not very familiar with Zone Alarm. Also - I had purchased Zone Alarm about a year ago, (was using it with a Linksys wired router) and suddenly I am getting messages on restart telling me my "trial period is up" - of course I can't find my original packaging to enter a serial number (altho one is already entered and they say it's not *valid*) so I have to select an option that tells me I am no longer protected. (unless I pay another $40 to re-register it!!) Could this be part of the problem?
    Final question - sorry for being such a newbie - but do I really need both Zone Alarm and the firewall in the router?  ZA says it has caught thousands of attempts on my system - while it was running with my non-wireless router installed - is that a crock? Or is actually good to have both software and hardware routers?  And if I do need ZA still - does it have to be disabled everytime I want to access the admin page? Then turned back on?
    ugh!
    thanks -
    Mary

    LOL - This forum is great, I've been here 5 minutes and now have some fresh perspectives on a couple of problems.
    I would NOT recommend paying for ZA. What the heck were they thinking when they created their 'Zones'? They should have named it something else for one, like 'Complicated rules and policies that are guaranteed to hack up everything you try to do (and it gets even worse when you restore the settings you tweaked back to their defaults)' But I guess that's a little too long.
    Marynospam: Your Windows firewall (if ur on windows) will do a pretty good job of keeping out unwanted visitors from the Internet. It will NOT stop malware from calling out! Modern day scumbags slip you a trojan that will spy, record, copy, and call them back with whatever they want from you. If you are using Microsoft Windows DO NOT TURN OFF your 3rd party firewall! Of the firewall/security vendors I have experience with, McAfee is the best. I have only used their firewall and viruscan, and don't have experience with their 'spyware' package.

  • Question for register Oracle agent inside Zone

    Hi All,
    There is a question about register an Oracle agent inside zone:
    Lets say S1, S2 be the global zone for the hosts of a pair of Sun cluster, and zone1, zone2 as the non-global zone respectively.
    Zone1 and zone2 with the zone path /dbzone, and the oracle binary is installed in zone1 and zone2s local disk, with path /home/oracle/10.2 as the ORACLE_HOME.
    Therefore, the corresponding path to the host S1 and S2 is /dbzone/root/home/oracle/10.2.
    And when we register the Oracle HA resource, with input the oracle home as /home/oracle/10.2, it will prompt that the directory is not contain required Oracle file.
    And if we change to /dbzone/root/home/oracle/10.2, it will prompt with error when create resource, with the message, S1:zone1, path /dbzone/root/home/oracle/10.2 not exist.
    We currently to solve the problem by moving the oracle binary to SAN disk, with mount point name /u01/oradata/portal/oracle/10.2 on the both global and non-global zone.
    I would like to ask that is there any missing syntax or any document about how to register ORACLE_HOME inside zones local disk?
    Thanks,
    Cheung

    Cheung,
    You probably haven't got the init<SID>.ora file in both ORACLE_HOME/dbs directories or something like that. Have a look at /var/adm/messages on both these zones and the global zone and see if there are any more hints as to what is missing.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • Zone path location question

    I am rebuilding our Zone hosting server and the Zone paths are currently located on the SAN through an iscsi mount. My question is: If I plan to use Live Upgrade should the zone paths be in the root partition instead?
    Also, if you have any suggestions about using Live upgrade with non-global zones I would like to hear them as well.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Which file system you are using?
    I have patched several guest ldoms running several zones with Live Upgrade. Every zone's zroot is on separate zpool (because of HA). This way it is quite easy to migrate a single zone to second node (in the event of disaster)
    One thing that you should remember is that Live Upgrade with ZFS does the patching by using ZFS snapshot. For example, if you do the patching to a live system (which is supported with Live Upgrade!) and the application running on the zone is storing its data on the same file system where zone's root is, the application's data might be out of date after you reboot the machine using the new BE that was created by Live Upgrade.
