Scanning not working HP Deskjet F4440

The last time I installed new ink cartridges and printed the alignment page, my printer would not scan it. A blinking orange light flashed at the front of the printer instead. I have been unable to scan since then and print quality is blurry because the printer is not aligned. I've tried almost every HP troubleshooting solution. Print & Scan Doctor tries to install the latest software, but when it gets to almost 100% either a runtime error comes up or a message that says "Download Failed" . I tried uninstalling the printer and then tried to install software again but got the same thing. I can't install HP Solution Centre because it says that I need administrator rights on this computer (I am an administrator...there's only one user on this computer). When I tried to contact HP, it wouldn't give me a phone number or chat link because it says the product is no longer covered by HP support. Help!!

    Well, it has been a long road on the Win 10 upgrade. At first I got the same error message as above, but after deleting the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 in Win 10 using Control Panel Programs and Features and rebooting, I got into the continual BSOD upon reboot. Here are the steps I took to at least get stable on Windows 10. First, I rolled back to Windows 8.1 using the advanced feature in the BSOD recovery options. Once back in Win 8.1, I deleted the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Then I downloaded the Win 10 update and re-installed it. Once that completed, I updated the Intel Graphics driver under the display adapters (on my G780 it is an Intel HD Graphics 4000, and the driver can be found at  https://downloadcenter.intel.com/). Currently I am running version 10.18.10.4252 for my machine. Then, under the Device Manager, I updated the Conexant SmartAudio HD driver under the Sound, video, and game controllers. That driver is currently at 8.66.4.50 and was automatically downloaded from the web when I requested to update driver.  I also changed several others settings such as Notify to schedule restart after updates are installed instead of automatic (under Settings --> Update & Security --> Advanced Options) and Do you want Windows to download driver software and realistic icons for your devices? --> No, let me choose what to do, never install driver software from Windows Update.  After that, I shut down the machine, waited a moment and booted back up. I have no idea why this helped or if it is overkill, but I am stable and running without a fear of rebooting now. Hope this helps if someone else is having this same issue.

    Thank you for your reply! For further assistance I will need to know:
    If the printer is able to make copies by itself. Copy Text or Mixed Documents.
    If the power cable plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
    In the meantime, please try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens.

  • Smart scan not working with Insert Select statements

    We have observed that smart scan is not working with insert select statements but works when select statements are execute alone.
    Can you please help us to explain this behavior?

    There is a specific exadata forum - you would do better to post the question there: Exadata
    I can't give you a definitive answer, but it's possible that this is simply a known limitation similar to the way that "Create table as select" won't run the select statement the same way as the basic select if it involves a distributed query.

  • McAfee Scan not working

    Tried to scan Mac this morning: got message "unknown errors received from scanners".
    So tried McAfee's Virtual Technician (sort of automatic help service) which reported '1.0.0.2 - platform not supported' against Internet Security, Application Protection, Desktop Firewall and Antimalware.
    So then tried to get McAfee's email support, but it doesn't seem to be available to us here (in UK).
    Then tried their 'Live Chat' - got a Live Chat reference number, but no prompt / invitation to actually initiate 'discussion'.
    Is anyone else having McAfee problems and does anyone have any ideas on what else I can try?

    I did hesitate for a bit (I'm a Mac newbie!), but finally bit the bullet & uninstalled.
    Then my problems really started !!!  Couldn't re-install (Download from McAfee not working).
    So have spent 3 days trying to get some sense out of McAfee Helpdesk (a misnomer if ever I heard one ........).
    Problem seemed to be that the only link (to them) available to me took me to their Windows dept. They appear to work in complete isolation from their Mac dept: just kept replying that I'd have to contact their Mac people.
    Had just about reached tantrum stage when, this evening, I tried downloading McAfee yet again & - whey-hey !! - this time it worked.
    So its scan is chuntering away in the background, even as I type. I'm none the wiser as to why it went wrong in the first place, nor why it was so difficult to reinstall. But all's well that ends well :-)

  • Proxies Missing and Full scans not working

    We had some major issues upgrading our Facilis shared storage to 'multi-user write' and in the process we lost all the proxy files/thumbnails for any video that was NOT stored in a archive device in FCSvr.
    Now the Facilis is stabilized - but I am left will 20,000 plus video flies that I need to recreate proxies/thumnails for. Any of the video that was stored on archive devices in FCSvr still has all the proxy files/thumbnails intact.
    So - I think I need to run a full scan on my edit-in-place device that has all the clips with missing proxy files? But this is not working. I keep getting:
    "ERROR: E_INVAL pm_transcoder ..."
    I can add new media to FCSvr with no problem - proxies and thumbnails get generated. But I can not seem to figure out how to make a full scan work. It tries three files - they all immediately fail and the full scan stops.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    In the process of making the changes you made, did any paths change? If the device paths changed at all, you could have trouble if you don't change the device in FCSvr too.
    Also, Did you bring FCSvr down before you started the upgrade? If FCSvr was running and tried to access the device while it was not mounted, specifically if it tried to write to either the shared storage device or the proxy device while it was unavailable to FCSvr, it may have created a "phantom device" in the /Volumes folder. I've had this problem several times. Try this - using Terminal on the FCSvr machine, cd to /Volumes. Does everything look normal there?

  • Scaner not working

    I have been using CS5 and Lion and scanning on my epson V750 Pro through photoshop.  I just upgraded to CS6 and Mountain lion.  Now I can only scan using the epson scanner ap and not through photoshop.  Does not work now with CS5 either.  I have downloaded the latest drivers and software from epson but it still does not work?

    CS6 in Mac is only 64 bit.  There is no TWAIN for 64 bit applications, so you will have to use the scanner ap for your work.

  • Photosmart 7510 scan not working

    My Photosmart 7510 scanner is suddenly, and for no apparent reason, not working. Wireless printing works fine, just the scan feature is not working. I have gone through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling my printer at least 25 times, both from the CD it came with, and from the latest drivers offered by HP. Each time, the installation is unsuccessful. I've run printer diagnostics, the Print and Scan Doctor, and have tried using the install wizard for Windows to install the software, but I keep getting an error. I've gone through the steps offered by the "HP Installation Failure - Upgrade Failure" dialogs, but still am unable to fix the issue with the scanner. Everytime I try to open the scanner, it displays the error: "The HP Photosmart 7510 series was not found. Everytime I check the software, it shows that I am missing the full feature drivers. Everytime I try to install the full feature software, it returns an error saying that certain software can't be uninstalled. I found documentation to follow for when you get that error, but that troubleshooting didn't solve the problem. When trying to use scan to computer directly from the scanner, I get a message that I need to enable scan to computer. However, I'm unable to open the scanner propeties to enable this feature, since, as mentioned before, when I try to open the scanner, it can't be found, and when trying to install it on my computer, it can't be installed. Help.. I'm now officially going around in circles.
    I'm running WIndows 7, 64bit.

    (a) Double click printer icon on desktop,
    (b) Click Manage Scan to computer,
    (c) Enable it and tick the box enable it with Windows
    (d) Click Ok (or Apply).

    I upgraded to 10.6.5 and scanning stopped working on my Brother MFC-685CW?
    It is on an ethernet. I played around enough (turn off firewall, reboot etc) to convince myself that I'm not going to be able to fix it

    Yes I have tried cycling power on both the computer and printer. That used to fix versions before 10.6.5. Unfortunately I don't get any errors. It just doesn't exist as a scanner I can select.
    I see other people are having printer problems with the software version just released so it might not be

  • Scan not working after upgrading to windows 10

    i upgraded my system yesterday from windows 7 to windows 10 but i it has issues with f secure. first f secure showed malfunction and asked to restart. after restart warning disappeared but i found that scan is not working. also after upgrade microsoft defender automatically started and it detected some default tab registry key. i removed it. than started f secure. but after hitting scan button i came to know that scan is not working. i tried several ways. full system scan right click scan but none worked. also a strange thing is that hitmanpro too is not able to scan. but malwarebytes worked absolutely normally. i think it is an issue with system not with f secure only. but still any help would be good. i saw different  discussions here related to windows upgrade so i guess this issue too can help someone if he/she ever comes through this kind of issue. i have already raised support ticket. waiting for their rply.

    one more thing. I was not able to download cleanup tool/online scanner too. but may be it has something to do with my internet bandwidth. and other strange thing i observed is that before restart i was not even able to turn off all security features. but after restart that problem seems to be corrected.

    I'm testing Cisco NAC agentless in-bound layer2 mode following the CAM manual:
    •Configure the Quarantine Role
    •Load Nessus Plugins into the Clean Access Manager Repository,

    •Configure Plugin Options,
    •Configure Vulnerability Handling,
    •Test Scanning (I can successfully "test from Manager" from "test" tab)
    I'm sure I disabled personal firewall on the testing client on untrusted vlan.
    When I using a testing PC to open a browser to access internet, I was redirected to the authentication pape, after login, I got unlimited access. The problem is It looks CAS did not do any scan to the PC as expected according to the policy I defined for "unauthenticated" role, there is no any scan report poped up.
    1.Any way I can check if Nessus Scanning is working properly on CAS?
    2.Any log or evidence I can check to make sure the scanning start, in process, complete , so I can know the status.
    3.How to check all plugin already pushed and sycronized by CAM?

  • Scan not working

    Hi,
    My scaner on my computer didn't open, I turned on and off everything, but nothing.  I could see the scan option and click on it, but the next box didn't open properly.
    So I trashed the program and reinstalled, now I only have the printer option and no scanner option? And I am not able to scan from the printer to the computer I am told that i am unable to do this.  So now i can't access my scanner?
    What can I do?

    I see that you are having issues scanning from the printer to the computer. After uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software, you only have the printer installed and not the scanner. I will certainly do my best to help you.
    Did you download and install the printer drivers or run the Apple Updates?
    Repair the Disk Permissions and Reset the Printing System on the computer.
    Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
    On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
    Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
    Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
    Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
    Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
    Click OK to confirm the reset.
    Type the correct Name and Password.
    Click OK to reset the printing system.
    Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
    If the printer name is selected correctly and you still don't have the option to scan even from Printers and Scanners, please try the following steps:

  • HT4623 Fingerprint scan not working after upgrade to IOS7.1?

    After upgraded to IOS7.1 yesterday, noticed all my finger print unlock failed to work.
    Deleted all existing prints with intend to re-register again, however it seems that the home butoon cannot detect when I placed my finger at all, tried many times and still the same.... no living with my 5S without finger print unlock...
    Anyone encounter the same?

    Many users seems to be experiencing the same: worked great under iOS 7.0X, now just not scanning. Some 'kinda' fixes: make sure your finger is cold or, plug in the phone to the charger or computer, or place your phone in the fridge for half an hour or so. All the others of rescanning / resetting your iPhone seem to offer no improvement.
    Not exactly what we have come to expect from Apple!
    Other users who have experienced the same issue are saying Apple will swop out your 5s for a new one (indicating this is a hardware issue that is exacerbated under the 7.1 changes to the scanning software). That sounds great in the US or Europe; however, it remains to be confirmed the same will apply in South Africa...

  • Scanning not working b/c ICMP or SNMP is blocked?

    I'm having a terrible time getting scanning over the network functioning on 10.6.1 with my Brother printer/scanner. (Printing works fine.)
    Because scanning works over USB, I suspected something was being blocked by the Mac. I turned of the firewall and still no luck. So I ran TCPDUMP and it looks like ICMP and/or SNMP is being blocked. This is what I get when initiating a request to the scanner:

    Then I would contact Brother tech support. I would also check for any updated drivers for your model. I went through this with a non-network model that bugged me badly until I traded emails with Brother tech support. It can take some research to find out what Brother models will and will not play nice with OS X. Contact their tech support. It sometimes took a couple of days to get a reply, but they did reply. Check their support web site for drivers in case new ones have been posted. Most printer manufacturers are playing catchup with SL. If you do have the most current drivers, then try uninstalling what you have, delete the printer in Print & Fax. reinstall the software an re-add the printer as well as configuring the Brother software to use the appropriate network connection - USB or Ethernet as I recall. Since the Brother model I have isn't a network model I don't know how the network configuration goes. Sorry.
