SCCM 2012 application portal: config questions

Hi,
We have setup SCCM 2012 application portal correctly and it's working fine.
However some config questions:
-can we change the name of the configuration portal? Now its servername/CMApplicationCatalog ... what's not userfriendly.
We'd like it to be applicationportal.ourcompany.com. Howto achieve that?
-can we customize layout in a supported way (we could change html pages but after an upgrade of SCCM they would/could be erased)?
-how does flexera (adminstudio?) plugs in into this. I've read this entry
http://helpnet.installshield.com/appportal2014/Content/helplibrary/AP_CreatingCatItemSCCM.htm but what's the big picture here? Anybody using this? What are the advantages?

We want to offer software center for overview of mandatory installs, application catalog for optional software.
On our companies portal, we can then set a link which directs to the application portal. User can then install optional software from there.
My current config works http://applicationportal.ourcompany.com/ goes to the sccm-server but not to the url below.
That would be http://applicationportal.ourcompany.com/CMApplicationCatalog/#/SoftwareLibrary/AppListPageView.xaml
how can I make sure the application portal shows up when this link is opened?
It sounds like you want to perform a URL rewrite?
http://www.iis.net/learn/extensions/url-rewrite-module/creating-rewrite-rules-for-the-url-rewrite-module
You should test this to see if it's what you want - I may have misunderstood your question.
Also, I wouldn't host this module on your AppCatalog server, I'd host the rewrite module elsewhere.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Reporting Services question

In testing SCCM 2012, I put it on a an existing remote SQL instance. This server also housed SCOM among other applications. I set up reporting services successfully and got reports working.
A few months later I decided to setup and test reporting in SCOM for Audit Collection Services (ACS). I did not know at the time but SCOM takes over SSRS and makes it unusable for any other application. This broke my SCCM reporting. I finally reinstalled
SSRS and got rid of the SCOM piece and all is back to normal.
I am now planning for deployment in production. Our DB team wants to stick the DB for SCCM on a server that will house many other databases (eventually).
My question is: Does SCCM reporting play well with others? That is, if I set up SSRS on a SQL server with other applications - should I request that SCCM is the only application using that particular SSRS instance? Or should it be ok to reside on an SSRS
instance that may eventually house other applications (NOT SCOM).
    Thanks in advance!

a couple hundred clients; base specs for the primary server; and it would be a VM
With all that said, I think our DB team still wants us to use their remote SQL server (physical) so I will probably go with that as it is still supported and our environment will be relatively tiny compared to typical SCCM deployments. Of course, if there
are known issues or advisories against having a remote SQL please let me know (and provide a link).
My main concern was using this remote SQL server and setting up SSRS and having other applications conflicting with it. As long as SCCM plays well with others - I am good to go. Thanks for the replies.

  • SCCM 2012 Application Catalog Website Point role Status is critical

    Hi team,
In a client's SCCM 2012 R2 environment there is a Critical Icon and Status against one of two Application Catalog Website point roles. Looking at the Component status, there are no errors and all the components show as green.
Trying to find any warnings or errors in the messages for the Site System role doesnt show any errors, and I tried to reset counts but this has not changed the status.
I am not sure where to go from here. The application catalog itself works and is up. All the services are running. I am unsure as to where this error status comes from or what it pertains to.
     Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Please check portlctl.log and awebsctl.log to see if there is any error.
You could also check the thread below.
Symptom: Reporting Services Point Status (under Monitoring - System Status - Site Status) appears as Critical, No error messages in logs or status messages
Cause: 'Status' can be set to "2" for 'SMS SRS Reporting Point' in dbo.summarizer_sitesystem table in sql
    Resolution: > Run below query:
update dbo.summarizer_sitesystem set status = '0' where SiteSystem = '["Display=\\abc.local\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=ABC"]\\abc.local\' and role = 'SMS SRS Reporting Point'
    > It should set the status back to 0.
    > Check in console and errors should go away.
    > In case if value reverts back then check below namespace in wmi of site server:
    root\sms\site_pri\sms_sitesystemsummarizer
    > check the value for reporting services point, ideally it should be 0, let's say it's set to 2 there as well then remove role of reporting services point.
    > if entry for reporting services point goes away from both the places then it's good, you can re-install the reporting services point and it should work fine.
    > Let's say if value/values doesn't get removed from sql/wmi , remove them manually via queries and then go with uninstall and re-install.
    > then it should work and errors in console and common.log should go away.

  • SCCM 2012 Application rollout timings

Just getting to grips with SCCM 2012, have a deployed Adobe Flash 13 to a bunch of users. How does SCCM handle this?
    i.e.
Does it deploy straight away once a user logs on or is there other criterea taken into account?

The user has to become member of the collection (if he/she is not yet in it), the client has to retrieve policies (which happens on a scheduled basis, after login or when unlocking the PC). Then it depends on the way you created the deployment: available:
user has to start the installation using the application catalog. required: the application will be installed at the deadline.

  • SCCM 2012 application catalog items not showing up

I have an SCCM 2012 package which is being deployed to a device collection
The users are not seeing this package appear in the application catalog, nor is it appearing in the software centre
Can we no longer deploy (advertise) to device collections for the users to install when needed?

If it is not appearing in Software Center, then either the deployment policy has not been retrieved by the client, it is not in the target collection, or has been filtered out due to platform restrictions (or some other restriction like that). Or the client
is not able to communicate with the MP, which would be a cause of the first option (the policy has not been retrieved by the client). You'd need to check to ensure that all is working on that end.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 SQL License Question!!

I have SCCM 2012 SP1 running on one server with the DB running on another server within SQL 2012 SP1. This was running grand for 5+ months green across the board.
Recently I lost SCCM access. I have discovered this is due to the trial of SQL having expired! I have performed quite a bit of research and see that SQL use is granted with the purchase of SCCM 2012 license. i.e. no SQL license is need.
    My questions:
Why has my trial expired if SQL is supposedly free with SCCM 2012 license?
Do I need to upgrade to full version and use SCCM license to activate SQL?
    Possible cause:
I have two instances running on my SQL server: SCCM DB and WSUS DB, is the expirey because of the WSUS DB and will I need to either remove this WSUS DB and, or, use a SQL 2012 license up?
    Quick responses appreciated Thanks!
    MichaelSpaulding

    Hi,
There is no license key provided for SQL server with the SQL User Rights that is included in the System Center license. So you need to get the SQL server keys/media from volume licensing site. There is no relation between the WSUS DB and the fact that the
    SQL trial version has expired.
If you downloaded the SQL Standard media from Volume licensing here is a guide for upgrading SQL server

  • SCCM 2012 Application and Packages Distribution

    Hi Giants,
Its Great to work with SCCM 2012 with plenty of New Features.
    Let me explain my requirement.
    1. Office 2010 Professional Plus SP1 with 15 Language Packs included
    -----MSP 1. Without Access
    -----MSP 2. With Access
-----MSP 3. With Access and Retain Old Version Access
    Now My Requirement.
    1. We want to deploy Office with Access to "Collection 1" and Office without Access to "Collection 2"
    2. If i create Office 2010 as a Application, i can create two deployment type with different command line, but i can select the deployment type while creating Deployment. [ There should of been a drop down option like Packages. :-( ]
    3. If i create Office 2010 as a Package, i cannot use the detection method or requirement rules and even i cannot publish it to Application Catalog.
    Now the Scenario.
    1. I can create 2 application with same source with different command line and deploy to different collection, but if i update the content in the source package, i need to give a update content to both the applications.
    2. Its not a big problem to give update content to both packages, but the problem is for 1st application if i give update content, sccm will find the difference and sent the changes to DP, and when i give update content to 2nd application the same process
happens and changes are transferred to DP.
    Now the Problem
    1. the effort involved in transferring the changes to DP becomes twice, which means 1 GB of changes will make 2 GB transfer to DP and when adding to Content Library, SCCM is smart enough to save 1 GB.
    2. Is there any where we can avoid multiple transfer to DP which will eat the bandwidth.
    3. Or is there a way to define which deployment type to used in Deployment.
    4. Or is there a way to publish Packages to Application Catalog.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Torsten,
    Thanks for the reply.
    1. if i create a single application with two different Deployment type, that is two different command line, which requirement rules i can use to differentiate them, because there is no logical separation for these command lines.
i.e. DT1. Office with Access and DT2. Office without Access.
this separation is done only for the license and is it possible to create a requirement in a way that only if this specific device in a specific collection user "With Access" or "Without Access"
    2. Yes, CM12 is smart enough to save disk space with content library, but that smartness is missing while transferring the content to DP, which mean increase in Bandwidth utilization.
    3. Great, i was not aware that Classic Packages can be published to Software Catalog.
    Thanks Again,
    SithaYuvaraj.

  • SCCM 2012: Application deployment stuck on 'Waiting to install '

I am setting up many new machines in the last month. But sometimes, when installing applications after rolling out an image. The applications wont install and display the waiting to install message. This mostly last for 1-2 hours but sometimes ever longer.
None of the logs that I have checked seem to give any indication why it will not move forward.  Any
    thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
For what it's worth, we are setup with a standalone primary site with one distribution point installed. SCCM 2012 SP1.

  • Sccm 2012 application deployment fail

    Hi Gents
I am attempting to deploy applications to a test machine.  The software deployment reaches the test machine in the software center but it fails.
One Application had the status "Past due - will be installed"
The rest just state "Fail" with more information saying:
"The software change returned error code 0x80070005 (-2147024891)
I've been googling away here and iwll continue to do so until i find a resolution but hopefully you guys can help point me in the right direction.
    Thanks for the help guys

Ok i got it to a point where the status of the applications is "waiting to install" so they download fine but not actually installing.  I followed this link:
http://777notes.wordpress.com/2012/08/17/sccm-2012-local-content-cach-failed-for-workgroup-machine/ anbd enabled the anonymous checkbox.  But still the apps arent installing.

  • SCCM 2012 Test Lab Setup Questions...

    Hi all,
I'm trying to set up a SCCM test lab with VMs so I can test deployment of our software package (.msi).  I downloaded the System Center 2012: Configuration Manager Test Lab Guide, which appears to consist of the following required machine setups...
-One server running System Center 2012 Configuration Manager named CM1. CM1 uses the Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition operating system.
-One pre-existing server running SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise named APP1. APP1 uses the Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition operating system.
-One pre-existing client running on Windows 7 Ultimate Edition named CLIENT1.
From this document, the first step is to Complete the Base Configuration.  When I download that document, it lists the following needed systems...
One computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named
DC1 that is configured as an intranet domain controller, Domain Name System (DNS) server, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, and an enterprise root certification authority
    (CA).
One intranet member server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named
APP1 that is configured as a general application and web server with secure sockets layer (SSL) support. APP1 also hosts the certificate revocation list (CRL) for the enterprise root CA
    installed on DC1.
One roaming member client computer running Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate named
    CLIENT1.
One intranet member server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named EDGE1 that is configured as an Internet edge server.
One standalone server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named
INET1 that is configured as an Internet DNS server, web server, and DHCP server.
The Base Configuration test lab consists of two subnets that simulate the following:
The Internet, referred to as the Internet subnet (131.107.0.0/24).
An intranet, referred to as the Corpnet subnet (10.0.0.0/24), separated from the Internet subnet by EDGE1.
My question(s)...  How many separate VMs are required to set up the test lab, 7?  Or are APP1 & CLIENT1 the same system for both setup guides, which I guess would bring the total of needed systems/vms to 5?
Can any of the images serve a dual purpose to lessen the number needed even further?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

There's no correct answer here as ConfigMgr itself can run on a single server or its roles can be spread out to many different servers. Ultimately, in a pure lab, there is rarely a reason to use more than a single server unless you are trying to simulate
a production deployment where the roles have been separated.
This single server doesn't include a DC though (as the ConfigMgr site server must be a member of an AD domain) or a client to manage though so that brings the total up to 3. You technically could put the ConfigMgr site server on the DC; however, that
is rarely done in production and cause a few unique configuration issues. You could also treat the DC as your managed client but that's typically not a great use case for testing client management.
I have no idea what lab guide you are following, but remember the lab guide is set up to walk you through many different scenarios -- some of which you many not care about. ConfigMgr is a huge and complex application that can be installed in many, many different
configurations based upon the goals of the installation and the organization it supports so it ultimately depends upon exactly what you are after. I'd suggested doing some additional supplemental reading like TechNet and/or one of the publishes books
available instead of just blindly following the lab guide. That's not to say the lab guide doesn't have value, but if you want to follow it, then you need to follow it.

  • SCCM 2012 Application Catalog shows ALL advertised to a user independant of the OS they are using

Within SCCM 2007 if a package was to be made available only to the following platforms, it would only show up on those platforms... If a user was using Win XP and had a package meant ONLY for Win7 advertised to them, they would not see it.... It seems as
though in CM12, if a user has advertisements meant for XP, Win7, 64 bit, etc... everything appears in teh application catalog. I also understand that the software center is meant for application publishing and not for regular packages as they were in 2007...
Is there a way to make the packages meant for XP to only appear in the users catalog and NOT show the Win 7 packages?
As we are in the middle of a Win 7 migration, we need to manage this without a lot of work within AD...

    Hi,
In Configuration Manager 2012 packages and applications that are made available to users are always displayed in the Application Catalog, the platform requirement is not evaluated until the user actually tries to install the application then the requirements
are evaluated and the installation will not continue if there the requirements doesn't match the plattform.
Software Center will display all packages/programs and applications that are deployed as "available" to devices and not users. User targeted will always show up in the Application Catalog..

I have some problem to create an OSLanguage or Device_OSLanguage Requirement using powershell script
it seems that the value passed to the script is not assume by sccm because the record is not availble on the console
i tryed with 1033 , en-us and so on with no good result

    Hi
The trick is to create a CustomCollection of ConstantValue, add each ConstantValue to this CustomCollection then add this CustomCollection to the Expression by using the Int64Array DataType.
I did it like this in VB .Net and I'm sure you can do the same in PowerShell:
Dim aobjOperand As CustomCollection(Of ExpressionBase) = New CustomCollection(Of ExpressionBase)
                Dim objOperand As ExpressionBase = New GlobalSettingReference("GLOBAL", "OSLanguage", DataType.Int64Array, "OSLanguage_Setting_LogicalName", ConfigurationItemSettingSourceType.CIM)
                aobjOperand.Add(objOperand)
Dim aobjLangues As CustomCollection(Of ConstantValue) = New CustomCollection(Of ConstantValue)
    aobjLangues.Add(New ConstantValue(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr").LCID.ToString, DataType.Int64))
                        aobjLangues.Add(New ConstantValue(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr-BE").LCID.ToString, DataType.Int64))
                        aobjLangues.Add(New ConstantValue(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr-CA").LCID.ToString, DataType.Int64))
                        aobjLangues.Add(New ConstantValue(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr-FR").LCID.ToString, DataType.Int64))
                        aobjLangues.Add(New ConstantValue(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr-LU").LCID.ToString, DataType.Int64))
                        aobjLangues.Add(New ConstantValue(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr-MC").LCID.ToString, DataType.Int64))
                        aobjLangues.Add(New ConstantValue(CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr-CH").LCID.ToString, DataType.Int64))
    objOperand = New ConstantValueList(aobjLangues, DataType.Int64Array)
                aobjOperand.Add(objOperand)
Dim objExpression As Expression = New Expression(ExpressionOperator.OneOf, aobjOperand)
                objRule = New Rule("Rule_" + Guid.NewGuid().ToString("D"),
                                   NoncomplianceSeverity.None,
New Annotation("Langue du système d'exploitation", Nothing, Nothing, Nothing),
                                   objExpression)

  • SCCM 2012 application run Powershell script and return codes

    Hi,
I created an new application (imported as MSI) in SCCM 2012R2. After import I changed the deployment type installation program to run a Powershell script: powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -File "Install FactSet 2013 5I.ps1
My goal is to close some processes before installing the MSI. This works. But on a failure the application program also return code 0 (AppEnforce.log). Is it possible to pass the MSI return codes to SCCM.
Maybe anyone had the same or idea's to solve this? Thanks in advance.

It's really hard to tell from the code above because of the way it's listed, but are sure that even executes? I see at least one stray curly brace and a stray square bracket.
For the Start-Process cmdlet, have you tried without the -passthru parameter?
Also, using the actual parameters will make the code much more readable instead of relying on position.

I'vent yet got the opportunity to make the users request for Applications from the application Catalog. However, I'd like to know what is the log file name and how this entry looks like when users request for an application in Application catalog. I'd
also like to know complete information in Log files for the approval process (User requesting the application to Approving / Rejecting Application)

There is not really much information logged about that process. You might find something in status messages (\Monitoring\Overview\System Status\Status Message Queries)
