SCCM 2012 R2 collection variables question

Can a task sequence setup for collection variables be used with different collections [each with different collection variables] and each having a unique deployment?
Regards

You are free to file feedback on connect.microsoft.com but first think about what you are asking: How would ConfigMgr know anything about the variable you set or what it will be used for during the TS?
Why are you having to create new applications and packages in the first place though? That part is unclear to me?
Finally, are you really manually setting task sequence variables on collections and then manually populating those collections? Why not use MDT and/or UDI or simply present a GUI to the interactive user to choose what they want/need?

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Reporting Services question

In testing SCCM 2012, I put it on a an existing remote SQL instance. This server also housed SCOM among other applications. I set up reporting services successfully and got reports working.
A few months later I decided to setup and test reporting in SCOM for Audit Collection Services (ACS). I did not know at the time but SCOM takes over SSRS and makes it unusable for any other application. This broke my SCCM reporting. I finally reinstalled
SSRS and got rid of the SCOM piece and all is back to normal.
I am now planning for deployment in production. Our DB team wants to stick the DB for SCCM on a server that will house many other databases (eventually).
My question is: Does SCCM reporting play well with others? That is, if I set up SSRS on a SQL server with other applications - should I request that SCCM is the only application using that particular SSRS instance? Or should it be ok to reside on an SSRS
instance that may eventually house other applications (NOT SCOM).
    Thanks in advance!

a couple hundred clients; base specs for the primary server; and it would be a VM
With all that said, I think our DB team still wants us to use their remote SQL server (physical) so I will probably go with that as it is still supported and our environment will be relatively tiny compared to typical SCCM deployments. Of course, if there
are known issues or advisories against having a remote SQL please let me know (and provide a link).
My main concern was using this remote SQL server and setting up SSRS and having other applications conflicting with it. As long as SCCM plays well with others - I am good to go. Thanks for the replies.

  • Windows 8.1 laptop computer not showing in SCCM 2012 devices collection

    Hi,
I am trying to do a POC on license management from  SCCM 2012. I have configures a SCCM 2012 server and intune subscription also. I have Android, iOS and desktop apps uploaded (.msi). when I enrolled android and ios devices its shows up in SCCM,
devices collection but do not show in Intune.
my company portal is nicely coming up on android and iOS tabs. on the other hand company portal showing only Web apps, on a win8.1/7 laptop.
When I tried to enroll 2 windows 8.1/ 7 laptop (intel x86), they donot show up in SCCM. clients of intune manually installed, endpoint protection of SCCM installed also on both boxes.
I tried updating membership in SCCM for both know and unknown type, many time and also triggered Deployment of some desktop app, to the win 8.1 laptops. the desktops are showing in Intune All devices -> all computers nicely. But
    not in SCCM2012.
what did I missed, I tried to add all the logical roles. below is some details what shows up in Intune:
    indranil

If you installed the Intune agents on the Win 8.1 and Win 7 systems, then they will never show up in ConfigMgr.
There are basically two parts of Intune -- a Mobile Device Management piece and a Windows management piece. The Intune connector in ConfigMgr takes over the MDM piece and nothing more. When ConfigMgr takes over this MDM piece, as Torsten said, all MDM devices
enrolled show up in ConfigMgr and not Intune because that's now controlled by ConfigMgr. The Windows management piece remains unchanged and separate though and so those systems will be directly managed by Intune only or ConfigMgr only.
So you have three options there:
    - Install the ConfigMgr agent and managed using COnfigMgr
    - Install the Intune agent and manage using Intune
    - Enroll the systems using OMA-DM which manages them as if they were devices. This means so you don't get SCEP or Windows Updates or most of the other ConfigMgr functionality. This is only valid for Win 8.1 though.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 SQL License Question!!

I have SCCM 2012 SP1 running on one server with the DB running on another server within SQL 2012 SP1. This was running grand for 5+ months green across the board.
Recently I lost SCCM access. I have discovered this is due to the trial of SQL having expired! I have performed quite a bit of research and see that SQL use is granted with the purchase of SCCM 2012 license. i.e. no SQL license is need.
    My questions:
Why has my trial expired if SQL is supposedly free with SCCM 2012 license?
Do I need to upgrade to full version and use SCCM license to activate SQL?
    Possible cause:
I have two instances running on my SQL server: SCCM DB and WSUS DB, is the expirey because of the WSUS DB and will I need to either remove this WSUS DB and, or, use a SQL 2012 license up?
    Quick responses appreciated Thanks!
    MichaelSpaulding

    Hi,
There is no license key provided for SQL server with the SQL User Rights that is included in the System Center license. So you need to get the SQL server keys/media from volume licensing site. There is no relation between the WSUS DB and the fact that the
    SQL trial version has expired.
If you downloaded the SQL Standard media from Volume licensing here is a guide for upgrading SQL server

  • SCCM 2012 application portal: config questions

    Hi,
We have setup SCCM 2012 application portal correctly and it's working fine.
    However some config questions:
-can we change the name of the configuration portal? Now its servername/CMApplicationCatalog ... what's not userfriendly.
We'd like it to be applicationportal.ourcompany.com. Howto achieve that?
-can we customize layout in a supported way (we could change html pages but after an upgrade of SCCM they would/could be erased)?
-how does flexera (adminstudio?) plugs in into this. I've read this entry
http://helpnet.installshield.com/appportal2014/Content/helplibrary/AP_CreatingCatItemSCCM.htm but what's the big picture here? Anybody using this? What are the advantages?
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

We want to offer software center for overview of mandatory installs, application catalog for optional software.
On our companies portal, we can then set a link which directs to the application portal. User can then install optional software from there.
My current config works http://applicationportal.ourcompany.com/ goes to the sccm-server but not to the url below.
    That would be http://applicationportal.ourcompany.com/CMApplicationCatalog/#/SoftwareLibrary/AppListPageView.xaml
how can I make sure the application portal shows up when this link is opened?
It sounds like you want to perform a URL rewrite?
    http://www.iis.net/learn/extensions/url-rewrite-module/creating-rewrite-rules-for-the-url-rewrite-module
You should test this to see if it's what you want - I may have misunderstood your question.
Also, I wouldn't host this module on your AppCatalog server, I'd host the rewrite module elsewhere.

  • SCCM 2012 and collection settings

    Hi all,
    I am migrating SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3.
All my 1200 collections are migrated to SCCM 2012 and the incremental option is enabled on most of my collections (about 1100).
Now I found out that my collections are updating very very slow.....
I read an article that best practice is to enable a maximum of 200 collections with the incremental option.
So i ran a powershell script to disable this option on my collections....
Now it seems that collection updates are faster again...
Do I need to disable the incremental option on all collections and enable the schedule full update eg. very 30 minutes ?
I hope someone could share his experience with this....

I ran this test this weekend since it has been a while since I have do this. Short version, yes I’m getting confused between CM07 and CM12. CM07 this work perfectly for User and PCs. In CM12 this only work perfectly for Users. If you want
to make this work for PC you need to do the following.
    PC
Add the PC to the Security Group.
Wait of the Security group to replicate to the PC’s local DCS.
    Reboot the PCs
Wait for the Discovery Data(DD)  collection Cycle to occur, (default is every 7 days), However I recommend making this daily and in some cases hourly.
Once the DD data is in the CM12 db. You need to wait for the Collection to update (default is every 7 days)
Then you need to wait for the PC to retrieve it’s Machine policies. (~1 hour)
    User:
Add the User to the Security Group.
Wait of the Security group to replicate to the PC’s local DCS.
Logon to the PC. With newer OS , just unlocking the PC will
     do the trick.
Then you need to wait for the User Polices to retrieved.(~1 hour)

  • Rebuilding PCs using SCCM 2012 TS / Collections

    Hi guys and girls,
I am looking to setup a process whereby an existing PC can be rebuilt.
Currently - we boot up the PCs, or Laptops using USB Media and then select the relevant task sequence and away you go. That's fine for new builds..
But for rebuilds, I would like something whereby the PC detects a rebuild task, i.e. through an advertisement in a collection which it joins, by AD group membership.
When this happens, I would like the machine to be removed from AD and SCCM in its current form so that when its rebuilt the GUIDs and policies get refreshed.
    My questions are:
    (a) Has anyone done this via a Task Sequence...
The machine is already turned on, detects the policy update/refresh - then restarts itself and self-builds again after deleting itself from AD/SCCM
    (b) The above happens but the machine just rebuilds itself without removing first.
I have already setup the task sequence, and added it to the collection. I have also created an AD group to add PCs to, not sure if that was the best way but I want to empower the desktop team in my company so that they are less likely to make any mistakes.
    Thoughts & suggestions welcome...

There are alot of ways to do this, it really depends on what is best for your organization.
The only question I have before giving some suggestions is, why delete the record in AD and SCCM? Is there some cleanup you are trying to do? Will they be renamed?

  • SCCM 2012 Test Lab Setup Questions...

    Hi all,
I'm trying to set up a SCCM test lab with VMs so I can test deployment of our software package (.msi).  I downloaded the System Center 2012: Configuration Manager Test Lab Guide, which appears to consist of the following required machine setups...
-One server running System Center 2012 Configuration Manager named CM1. CM1 uses the Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition operating system.
-One pre-existing server running SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise named APP1. APP1 uses the Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition operating system.
-One pre-existing client running on Windows 7 Ultimate Edition named CLIENT1.
From this document, the first step is to Complete the Base Configuration.  When I download that document, it lists the following needed systems...
One computer running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named
DC1 that is configured as an intranet domain controller, Domain Name System (DNS) server, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, and an enterprise root certification authority
    (CA).
One intranet member server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named
APP1 that is configured as a general application and web server with secure sockets layer (SSL) support. APP1 also hosts the certificate revocation list (CRL) for the enterprise root CA
    installed on DC1.
One roaming member client computer running Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate named
    CLIENT1.
One intranet member server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named EDGE1 that is configured as an Internet edge server.
One standalone server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition named
INET1 that is configured as an Internet DNS server, web server, and DHCP server.
The Base Configuration test lab consists of two subnets that simulate the following:
The Internet, referred to as the Internet subnet (131.107.0.0/24).
An intranet, referred to as the Corpnet subnet (10.0.0.0/24), separated from the Internet subnet by EDGE1.
My question(s)...  How many separate VMs are required to set up the test lab, 7?  Or are APP1 & CLIENT1 the same system for both setup guides, which I guess would bring the total of needed systems/vms to 5?
Can any of the images serve a dual purpose to lessen the number needed even further?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

There's no correct answer here as ConfigMgr itself can run on a single server or its roles can be spread out to many different servers. Ultimately, in a pure lab, there is rarely a reason to use more than a single server unless you are trying to simulate
a production deployment where the roles have been separated.
This single server doesn't include a DC though (as the ConfigMgr site server must be a member of an AD domain) or a client to manage though so that brings the total up to 3. You technically could put the ConfigMgr site server on the DC; however, that
is rarely done in production and cause a few unique configuration issues. You could also treat the DC as your managed client but that's typically not a great use case for testing client management.
I have no idea what lab guide you are following, but remember the lab guide is set up to walk you through many different scenarios -- some of which you many not care about. ConfigMgr is a huge and complex application that can be installed in many, many different
configurations based upon the goals of the installation and the organization it supports so it ultimately depends upon exactly what you are after. I'd suggested doing some additional supplemental reading like TechNet and/or one of the publishes books
available instead of just blindly following the lab guide. That's not to say the lab guide doesn't have value, but if you want to follow it, then you need to follow it.

  • SCCM 2012 Query collection problem

    Hi!
I have problem with query based collections. I want to create collection where is computers with db2 client and sql express installed. Query is like that:
    select *  from  SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS on SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.ResourceId = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.ProdID = "{63F6DCD6-0D5C-4A07-B27C-3AE3E809D6E0}"
    and SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.ProdID = "{2AFFFDD7-ED85-4A90-8C52-5DA9EBDC9B8F}"
When I choose one of them, then it finds workstations. Where is my mistake or I need to do it another way?
    Best regards
    Ronald

    Hello Ronald,
your Question is important for me because, i search for an possibility to Install the DB2 Client over SCCM environment. My way is over an Command file:
    @echo off
    net use s: \\xxxxxxxxx\d$\SoftwareDeployment\DB2_Driver /PERSISTENT:NO
    s:
    setup -u PROD_CLIENT.rsp
    timeout /T 600 /nobreak
    net use s: /delete
But the Installation should not start, after some hours it failured with message ID 10006 and comment 1603.Do you know why it not start?

  • SCCM 2012: Child collections with Maintenance Windows

    Hello
after searching and reading many posts about maintenance window, I've realised, I have to ask my own question:
Assume a parent software update collection and an ADR, deployed on it. Every one of the child collections (included by Membership rule: include collections) has an own Maintenance Window.
Question: what exactly happens on the Dead Line, configured in ADR?
I suppose, the selected updates will be deployed to the child collections, but download, installation and reboot will occure only during the configured Maintenance Window on the child collection. The software updates will be listed in Software Center of
the server, which is member of this collection, the status will be "past due - will be installed" or somethig of this kind, the download status will be shown as 0%.
    Am I right?
Questions Background: we have a large infrastructure with more than 1500 servers, devided in 11 pools (software update collections) with 11 different maintenance windows. So, I will create only one ADR, which will be deployed to the parent software
update collection, or "wrapper collection". I hpe, the configured maintenace windows of the child collections will remain active.
    Thanks for your feedback.
    Kind regards: P. trifonov

Yes you are right. the SU will get installed at the next available MW, no matter which collection that MW belongs too.

To add-on to Torsten, this single line gets the content of your text file and (in most cases) will create an array filled with each line of the text file. So before you can use this information, you have to loop through it to get the information of the different

I think you should do something like this:
    $ADNames = Get-Content -Path C:\fso\ADgroups.txt

  • SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012: migrate SOME items, TESTING ONLY(!)

    Hi,
We have an SCCM 2007 environment in production with which we don't deploy any os-es. All other features: packages etc we do use, currently for Windows XP as well as Windows 7.
We've setup a SCCM 2012 environment in which we will deploy Windows 7. I'm not familiar with the possible migration concepts, therefore I thought of setting all items on SCCM 2012 manually (collections, applications) but why reinvent the weel? Therefore

    Please advise howto.

    Hi,
You can migrate the collections, advertisement to SCCM 2012 or create them manually. Both are OK. I suggest you read the migration document first.

  • Prestaged OSD using SCCM 2012 SP1 windows Partition variable is not being set

Hello All  I need some assistance with a workaround.
I am using a presaged task sequence created from a working network / PXE deployment TS for windows 7.
This TS sets a variable for the OS partition called "Windows" and the value is set in the Partition Disk task.
Problem is this value is not being read from a prestaged due to the OEMMedia condition skipping this partition and format task.
Question is how do I get it to read and or set the value for that partition?
From what I have found on Google this was an issue in beta of MDT but was fixed in RTM.  I am not using MDT TS but I do have it installed. Any idea if this is a known issue with SCCM 2012 sp1 TS?
Edit: also noticed that the variable's case is different and will not let me change it.
Variable under format is "windows"  variable under Apply OS is "Windows"  when I change them to be the same then close and reopen they revert back to the above.  Are these variables case sensitive?
Edit: for now I have changed it from variable to next available partition.  I tested it twice so far it seems to be using the correct partition and it remains to be called the C drive.  For now this will be my solution.

When you say "presaged task sequence created from a working network / PXE deployment TS" are you saying this is still a network boot process? Or have you done "Create Task Sequence Media"?
    Dustin Estes - MCP
yes when i say prestaged that is using the create task sequence media then selecting prestaged.

  • SCCM 2012 report w/ selectable collection

I am trying to create a report with a selectable collection parameter.  The original query I'm using is as follows (Stolen from
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/infratalks/archive/2013/09/10/sccm-2012-reporting-get-system-serial-number-amp-create-custom-ssrs-report.aspx):
    Select sys.Name0 Machine, CS.UserName0 'User Name',OS.Caption0 OS, OS.CSDVersion0 'Service Pack',CS.Manufacturer0 Manufacturer,CS.Model0 Model,BIOS.SerialNumber0 'Serial Number',RAM.Capacity0 Memory, cs.SystemType0
    From v_R_System SYS
left join v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM CS on sys.Name0=cs.Name0
left join v_GS_PC_BIOS BIOS on sys.ResourceID=bios.ResourceID
left join v_GS_OPERATING_SYSTEM OS on sys.ResourceID=OS.ResourceID
left join v_GS_PHYSICAL_MEMORY RAM on sys.ResourceID=ram.ResourceID
      --Where sys.Name0 = @variable
      order by sys.Name0
This works fine, but it gives me that information for EVERY machine in our infrastructure globally.  I am only interested in getting this information from machines in certain collections and I want to be able to select the collection each time I run
the report.  I found this article:
http://it.peikkoluola.net/2013/06/02/report-with-a-selectable-collection-parameter-sql/ and followed the steps, but cannot run the report successfully.  I'm guessing it has something to do with needing to modify my query, but I am a newb with SQL and
have no clue what or where I should be tweaking.  Just adding "WHERE(dbo.v_FullCollectionMembership.CollectionID
= @COLLID)" gives me a syntax error.  Moving it above "Order by sys.name0" gives an error about not being bound to anything, which makes sense but as I mentioned, I don't know what to tweak.  Help!  Thanks.

    Select sys.Name0 Machine, CS.UserName0 'User Name',OS.Caption0 OS, OS.CSDVersion0 'Service Pack',CS.Manufacturer0 Manufacturer,CS.Model0 Model,BIOS.SerialNumber0 'Serial Number',RAM.Capacity0 Memory, cs.SystemType0
    From v_R_System SYS
left join v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM CS on sys.Name0=cs.Name0
left join v_GS_PC_BIOS BIOS on sys.ResourceID=bios.ResourceID
left join v_GS_OPERATING_SYSTEM OS on sys.ResourceID=OS.ResourceID
left join v_GS_PHYSICAL_MEMORY RAM on sys.ResourceID=ram.ResourceID
      join v_fullcollectionmembership fcm on fcm.resourceid=sys.resourceid
      Where fcm.collectionid = @COLLID
      order by sys.Name0
Try the above, note that @COLLID is a placeholder for a variable.  It is presumed that you are creating this using Report Builder 3.0 (or better) or some other SQL tool to create reports for use on your SRS reporting point.  If you happen
to be using Report Builder, once you save the above, under parameters you'd have a place for COLLID.  Now, what you want is to be able to have that parameter be populated with your collection names, so that you can select from the list when the report
    is run.
So... another DataSet, with a query like:
    select collectionid, name
    from v_collection
    order by name
Then, back to your parameters, COLLID, available values, Get values from a query, and you'll want to use that dataset you just made, and Value field is collectionid, and Label field is Name.
If you want to test the top query in regular sql, don't use @collID.  figure out the collectionid of a specific collection, and put in where fcm.collectionid='ABC00012'
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.
