Sched: trap type = 0x31

I am Using Sparc Enterprise 250 with SunOS 5.7
Any guess on the problem below which causes the machine to crash and reboot..
Is there a known patch or something

Try to translate the hex PC addresses to symbolic names.
(unfortunatelly you're not runnnig solaris 8, the solaris
8 kernel does that automatically on a panic; the panic
output is much more usefull that way).
OK, the crash happened at

Login as root, then run
     adb -k
Now type each of the PC address followed by "?i"
Example:
% adb -k
physmem ba3d
1002377c?i
startup_memlist+0x9c: ld [%i0 + 0x284], %o0
10080db8?i
main+8: nop
^D
Post the result you've got.
(Lets hope the kernel modules are loaded at exactly the same
location now, otherwise even that translation will be
useless).
You may want to enable saving kernel crashdumps, too.
See the file /etc/init.d/sysetup, the commands
following "Default is to not do a savecore" must be
commented out.
Could be easier for Sun support or someone else to analyse
the problem where there's a crash dump available for the
panic.

    Hi,
what's a trap type 0x31 (see below)? Couldn't find any information about this specific trap in the "SPARC_Architecture_Manual_Version_9".

This trap type represents a "Data Access MMU miss".
This is a memory management error that can caused by bad memory or by corrupt OS. SOme Ultrasparc 400MHZ modules also had a general problem with this in 2.5.1 and 2.6 that was fixed by kernel jumbo patches.

This look like a panic in UFS ufs_dirlook() in accessing fbuf structure.
There is a recent bug that was closed as not reproduceable whicvh is similar to this panic.
Bug 16818353 : PANIC IN UFS_DIRLOOK(): BAD TRAP 0X31 WRONG VALUE IN FBUF->FB_ADDR
I will recommend that you open a new Service Request with Oracle Support and provide explorer result along with

  • Boot Panic: trap type d, error 0 at 8fa7

    Hi
I am trying to install Solaris 10 on x86 machine:
    Mother Boad : K7S41GX
    Socket :A(462 pins)
Bios Version :3.3a AMI Bios dated 7/19/2004
Processor :AMD Sempron 2200+ (1.5 Ghz)
    Monitor :Samsung Sync Master 753DF
Hard Disk :1 WDC WD1200 JB-00GVA0 (Westren Digital)
    2 Maxtor 6L040J2
    CD : EIDE CD-ROM 52X/AKH
    DVD :Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-812S
    chipset :SIS 7S41
I have checked the MD5 sums of all the five files and found them in order.
After making a single large file I again cheked the DVD iso file and found
the sum to match with the one on solaris server.
After burning the Solaris 10 DVD again at 2x speed . Now I have been
able to boot from CD. But I can get to only the following prompt and after
    that the installation stops:
<<<staring interactive text installation, console session>>>
    booting kernel/unix....
    Boot:Panic: trap type d , error 0 at 8fa7
I might mention here that I did go through the various solaris 10 installatin
manuals and sun.doc but have not found anything like this or similar.
any vetren would care to give tip
    cheers
    and thanks for reading.

  • SPARCstation 20:  BAD TRAP: type=7

I don't use Sun machines too much, my company mainly sells HP, so sorry for ignorance. But, we have sold some Sun and one customer with an old SPARCstation 20 is reporting a problem.
He says that it attempst to boot, giving the bood device name, Sun copyright notice, etc. But it doesn't get very far, and dies:
    BAD TRAP: type=7, rp=f0243964 addr=0 mmu_fsr=0 rw=0
    : Memory address alignment
    pid=0 ... etc.
I made the educated guess it was memory, so the customer found some of the proprietary memory that this unit uses, and replaced the memory. Didn't help. I did a web search for BAD TRAP type=7, and some of the information I found seems to indicate a processor problem. Does that sound right?
I guess the customer is probably going to need a new machine or get Sun to repair the one he has. Just thought I'd ask for any confirmation.
    Thanks.

    Paul,
Sun will decline to service a SPARCstation-20 system.
It has been classified as End-Of-Service-Life ( EOSL )
It reached that point in 2002 (last ship date in 1997).
    http://www.sun.com/service/eosl/index.html
It is too old a platform for Sun to have any obligation to provide parts or repair services. Even if by some odd chance that their local area's service manager agreed to send someone on a pay-as-you-go basis, it would be less expensive to just buy three or four replacement SS-20s from an online auction site and swap parts until something boots.
    Just on the off-chance...
Do they have a spare disk that they could experiment with?
Re-install the OS to that other drive and see if the system boots.
There could be a corrupt kernel instead of a hardware problem.
They <i>are</i> using Solaris, I hope. A quick trip to Google showed such errors when booting to FreeBSD, though I don't know if that was just a result of how I searched Google.

  • Iscsi in Solaris 5.10.1 express 3/05

    Since Solaris 10 express (5.10.1) 3/05 (start from 2/05), iscsiadm is provided as isci initiator;
I have a Cisco iscsi SN5428 router, (the storage
is Sun StorEdge 9980) I have some solaris 9 iscsi
clients setup in our enviroment using the Cisco iscsi driver.
    I want to try the Solaris 10 iscsi driver, so I load the lastest Solaris 10 express 3/05 (build 09) on a Sun blade server; but unfortunately, I can't get the iscsi to work;
Since I have setup serveral Solaris 9 iscsi clients before, and I double checked my iscsi target settings on Cisco iscsi router, I think the iscsi disks should be available there. (if the box is Solaris 9 with cisco driver. And I knew the iscsi target is without CHAP,
    radius or CRC. )
Please see following commands I tried on Soalris 10 test box. Could anyone give me some hints how to get this thing work?
Also, by the way, it seems that iscsiadm man page
(1M) is not included in this distro.(I installed SUNWXall)
    # uname -a

Can you give me idea what happened to NSAPI ? It worked before.
I rebooted the Solaris server - it did not help.
Just a reminder : libproxy.so was copied from
    Weblogic 6.0 SP2 ../lib/solaris directory into /opt/netscape/plugins.

I have tried to sign in and run a few commands, but it doesn't seem to matter what I do..always the panic. I am unable to switch boot environments as the panic occurs before the luactivate completes. Switching to run level 1 doesn't help as it panics anyway.
Does anyone know, is this a know problem? Is there a fix? I haven't yet tried to reinstall.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Can you boot from DVD and do an "upgrade?"

    Hi,
My question is how to recover boot block on the solaris 10.
I have done the steps as mentioned below
    1. tried to update bootblk using installboot
    2. tried to update boot-archive using bootadm. but i can't to do this as given error"/a/: not a boot archive based Solaris instance"
So I can't recover the boot-archive file. Please suggest if you have any steps to recover the boot-archive.
Note: BAD TRAP: type=31 rp=2a100047450 addr=80 mmu_fsr=0 occurred in module "vxdmp" due to a NULL pointer dereference

  • Panic BAD TRAP errors

I get the following messages in /var/adm/messages after a crash on one of my Sun E450's. Does anyone know how to diagnose this correctly?

Just offhand I might guess divide by zero, but there could be other bad traps that will make you crash... divide by zero is a common one though.
The way to diagnose this of course would be examine the os core file with mdb, On sun solaris 10 (not sure if it is different on other platforms), do: mdb -k unix.n mvcore.n (where n=a number, for the core file of interest).
$C would list the stack trace of the process that kills the system, and if you found something of interest try
addressOfInterest::dis and look at the disasembled code and hopefully that would point you to the problem.
    Cheers,

  • Pcimxi module causing system panic

We have an UltraSparc Solaris 9 system which is panicing relatively often. The panic seems to be coming from a NULL pointer being dereferenced in the pcimxi module.

    Sep 20 12:42:41 p02rfu01 unix: [ID 340138 kern.notice] BAD TRAP: type=31 rp=2a100045740 addr=8 mmu_fsr=0 occurred in module "pcimxi" due to a NULL pointer dereference
We are running version 2.0.0 of the NICpcimxi package. I don't see any newer versions or patches available. Has anybody else experienced this problem? If so, any suggestions. Thanks!

I've gotten some more info from our engineers regarding the problem as well. Evidently the system only panics when they are talking to the Spectrum Analyzer via PCI attached GPIB. You would think it is a GPIB problem, but the panic is from the pcimxi module. It doesn't always crash when connecting to the SA, however it can be frequent. The NIpcigpib software is 2.3, NICpcimxi is 2.0.0, and NICvisa is 3.1. The crash string is as follows:
