Scheduling a BPEL Process

I am currently working on 10.1.3.4 on oracle application server. We have a need to schedule a BPEL process. This BPEL process is based on an AQ.
I know that there are other ways to schedule a BPEL process like using DBMS_SCHEDULER or writing some java code. Client does not like DBMS_SCHEDULER because it is database centric, and we don't have enough java expertise for coding at this time. What I was thinking that once this process is kicked off, I can put a wait for 5 minutes at the end of the process (Because this process is scheduled every 5 minutes), and then populate the AQ. Hence the current process will finish and the next one will be submitted. Hence it won't be a long running process.
My question is, will the WAIT cause a hit on the dehydration database? Also, is it a good way of doing things? We have a clustered environment and hence we cannot use the heartBeatInterval option in bpel.xml. I have heard that it does not work well with clustered environments.
Thanks
Asif

This sounds like a good approach for your case. Wait is usually discouraged when talking about scheduling because in those solutions, one tends to put wait in a while loop. Your case is free from such a flow, so this should work fine.

  • Scheduling BPEL Process in 11g using native SOA Suite functionatliy

    I have spent a significant amount of time reviewing documentation and the forums and have been unable to find a definitive answer on the ability to schedule a BPEL process in SOA Suite 11g.
    A similar question was asked here with no response:
    BPEL(SOA11G) and Quartz
    In SOA Suite 10.1.3.x it is discussed frequently:

    It appeared to be an actual feature in one of the technology previews:
    http://biemond.blogspot.com/2008/01/scheduling-processes-in-soa-suite-11g.html
    Can anyone provide an definitive answer on whether a BPEL process can be scheduled using functionality native to SOA Suite 11g. I understand there are external workarounds such as calling BPEL process from DBMS_JOB, using external scheduling framework etc. I am interested in solutions which are native to the SOA Suite itself if there is such a solution.
    If there is no definitive answer I will open a support case and post the results here for the benefit of the group.

    Hi-
    You can refer to the below link.

    I have not personally tried but I think it should work.
    PLease let us know how it goes.

  • Is it possible to trigger a bpel process from a database object.

    Hi,
    We want to schedule a bpel process to run daily .So we want to trigger it from a database job.
    Is it possible to call a bpel process from database..?
    Or
    Is there any way to schedule a bpel process from bpel server it self.
    Thank you
    Gayaz

    If you know about DBMS_JOBs then I would say the easiest way to invoke a BPEL process is via the AQ adapter. You just need to populate an AQ and a way you go. The good thing about this is that if SOA SUite is down when the schedule is run you don't need to retry, it will be picked up when it comes online again.
    cheers

  • How to run a BPEL process once every morning?

    Hi All!
    I am working on a BPEL process which will send email greetings to one/group depending on the day it is, like birthday/national festivals etc. I want this process to run by itself every morning once,and do the work.
    But I don't know how to make the process run once every morning? Please let me know how to schedule a BPEL process to run every 24 hours.
    Thanking in advance.

  • BPEL process state "Off"

    Hi,
    I had created one BPEL process which reads from FTP Remote server and writes to local file directory.
    After reading from Remote FTP server I am deleting file from the server. In the remote server I had created on user to interact with FTP server with all permissions. When the BPEL process executed FTP Adapter is deleting the File successfully from remote location but BPEL state is changed to “Off”.
    When I checked the logs, I found there is problem with Delete permission. Actually as mentioned above file is deleted successfully in the remote location.

    Hi SR,
    You can do this by having a BPEL process with a java embedding containing below code.
    * Input Variables
    String processName   = (String)getVariableData("processName");
    String revision      = (String)getVariableData("revision");
    * Declare variables.
    IBPELProcessHandle procHandle = null;
    Locator loc = null;
    BPELProcessMetaData bpelProcessMetadata = null;
    try{
         * get Locator Instance
        loc = getLocator();
         * Lookup Process. Revision optional.
        if(revision == null || revision.trim().equals(""))
          procHandle = loc.lookupProcess( processName );
        else
          procHandle = loc.lookupProcess(processName, revision);
        if(procHandle == null)
          throw new Exception("Unable to find process: " + processName);
         * Get Metadata of the process.
        bpelProcessMetadata = procHandle.getMetaData();
         * Set Lifecycle to Retired.
         * Use setState(IBPELProcessConstants.STATE_OFF) to change process state to off.
        bpelProcessMetadata.setLifecycle(IBPELProcessConstants.LIFECYCLE_RETIRED);
         * Finally update the process with the modified metadata.
        procHandle.updateMetaData(bpelProcessMetadata);
    }catch (Exception e)
      addAuditTrailEntry(e);
    }If you want you can schedule this process.

  • How do I call a simple java class from a bpel process?

    Hi.
    In JDeveloper 10.1.4.3.0 I've created a simple java class that does an ftp get operation followed by an unzip. The class uses some 3rd part libraries (jars).
    I want to use a simple bpel process to schedule a daily execution of this java class, and deploy it all to our SOA-server, - and was looking into using the <bpelx:exec> function.
    The java class and the bpel process is all stored in the same JDeveloper project.
    How do I put this together so that both my java class and the necessary jars are available to the bpel process?
    I've looked into the JavaExecSample.bpel, and it's says something about "...the class com.otn.samples.javaexec.CreditCalculator is locally packaged with this BPEL process".
    How do I do that?
    Can I make it and test it all locally from my workstation (only JDeveloper installed, I guess there's nothing that can execute the bpel code?), or do I have to compile class etc (make war-file?) and deploy to SOA server (BPEL-INF/lib or classes?) before anything can be tested?
    (I guess all this is simple, once you know how, but being a newbie to this I need a shove in the right direction :-)
    Regards,
    -Haakon-

    To create a java class and dependent jars inside the BPEL process project you need to do the following:
    1. Right click on your BPEL process project and select New and then Java Class from the Items.
    2. Make the BPEL process project, JDeveloper would compile the java classes and add them into the BPEL suite case jar, see the output folder and check the BPEL suite case jar file for java classes and dependent jars.
    You can test your Java classes from JDeveloper IDE, no need to deploy the classes on SOA server. When you make the BPEL project it compiles .bpel files and Java classes. You can test your classes once .bpel file and java classes compiled successfully.

  • Best practice on calling an Oracle Bpel process

    Trying to find the best practice calling an Oracle Bpel process. I know that I can call the process via database, app server, anothe bpel process, from an application, cron job, etc... I can do any of these but want some feed back on what others do and what method is the best.
    Thanks

    Your right there are a lot of different ways to call the BPEL WS. I guess what I'm asking is if you had several of these options at your disposal what way would you choose?
    I have an asych bpel process that needs to be called once a day to move some data from one db to another. What do you think is the best way to perform this: from the db cron or Oracle job scheduler, the bpel manager on a timer, etc. I'm leaning towards calling it from the db via a cron or an oracle job. Want to know if there is a best practice for something like this.
    Thanks

  • How to emulate invoke in BPEL process test

    I do some experiments with BPEL tests. There are some possibilities to emulate messages (for receive activities).
    How can I test invoke activities. I need that BPEL test do not invoke webservice but continue with emulated ouput values.
    Thanks.

    Hello.
    I try to emulate call operation in my BPEL process. Operation is defined as synchronous two-way operation in WSDL. But when I create test with emulation inbound message I see nothing and found in log this:
    It seems to only asynchronous operations can by emulated.

  • Start a BPEL process automatically all 30 seconds

    Hello,
    I would to check all 30 seconds a database for changes. If that is possible with the DatabaseAdapter? And if so like this is done?
    Or if there are there still other possibilities.
    It should be also begun automatically all 30 seconds a BPEL process which looks in a database.
    If somebody can help me there?
    Thanks
    Cathleen

    quick comment on the previous post ..a while loop with wait will flood sooner or later the audit trail ..
    you can configure the file adapter to poll the database for new records . and based on this strt a new process instance .. if the process should be started from outside the bpel manager (which is what I recommend, instead of a while/wait loop) check out this here ..

  • How to design multiple file polling BPEL process?

    Hi all,
    I am trying to solve/design the following in BPEL process:
    - The integration process flow I am trying to design is an interaction b/n system A (FTP server), an Integration platform and system B.
    - The integration platform will poll files from an internal FTP server. It has 2 Time files (“Time1” and “Time2”) alternatives to poll from the FTP server. It will then transform the message/information inside the files (time information) to an internal XML format. At the end it shall send the message to system B.
    - The information inside the files is identical. The reason to have 2 files with identical information is for redundancy. The integration-platform shall only poll file “TIME1” as long as the conditions are met. If the conditions are not met, then it polls file “Time2”.
    Normal succeeded scenario:
    1- The integration platform polls the latest “Time1” file from the internal FTP server. The polling is done every 15th minute.
    2- The integration platform logs to BAM and reports that the file is received.
    3- The platform then converts the message to an internal format.
    4- The platform sends the converted message/time information to system B.
    5 - The use-case ends.
    Not normal scenario:
    1- The platform cannot get/receive file “Time1” file.
    - The platform logs to BAM and reports that the file could not be received.
    - The platform polls file “Time2” from the FTP server and it does the same normal scenario as above. The use case ends.
    2 - Time message/information from the Time1 file has not full information (less than 24 rows). The file is supposed to have 24 rows (for 24 hours).
    - The platform logs to BAM and reports that there is missing information on the message.
    - The platform gets/polls instead the “Time2” file from the FTP server and it does the normal scenario.
    - The use case ends.
    3- The platform can find/get neither file “Time1” nor “Time2”.
    - The platform alarms to BAM that it could not get/find the files.
    ** I am considering either the pick activity or the switch activity solution. Does any one of you have an idea how to design this in oracle BPEL process?
    Thanks.

    Not sure I understand your use case completly so if I'm off track I apploigise.
    I think there are 3 ways to solve this. The 3rd may be closest to what you are looking for.
    1. Have 2 processes that read into a common area, e.g. database where you can compare. From there you can choose which file to pick. This is high leve but I think this would be dificult to implement.
    2. Implement a combination of a rejectedMessage handler and error processing witn the BPEL process itself. The rejecte message handler can call another BPEL process if the time1 file is in a invalid state. This process will then read the time2 file. The issue with this is that the rejecte message handler will only get invoked when the file doesn't conform to the schema.
    3. Use the quarts scheduler whcih invokes a BPEL process every 15 miniutes. Using the file adapter to perform a synchronous read to read time1, analyse it, if it fails read time2 using synchronous read. Then perform the approprate action id this fails.
    hope this give some ideas.
    cheers

  • BPEL processes and shell scripts

    Hi,
    I wish to invoke BPEL processes from a shell script so that it could be regulated from a typical Control-M environment. Can anybody let me know if its possible...?
    Regards,
    Roy

    Some kind-of Java interface would just be fantastic. Is there anything like that...?
    Well, I intend to execute some batch processes which would be scheduled and administered by Control-M; If i opt to use ws-clients within the same then auditing and monitering the status of my executing process would be an obvious overhead that i might need to hard wire in my implementation. Therefore, should it be possible to execute a BPEL process from a Java like interface, which i'd then wrap in a shell script; then Control-M on itself would be capable of monitoring the process status and all other performance parameters around the same.
    Suresh - Thanks for your suggestion, will definately post the message on those groups as well.

  • Passing files into BPEL processes

    Hi,
    I was wondering if it is possible to pass files of different types (.doc, .jpg etc.) into a BPEL process. If so, are there any documentation and/or examples showing how to do this?
    Thanks

    in 2.0.11, the only way to pass files to BPEL processes is to use base64 encoding.
    we are looking at providing better support for binary attachment in the 10.1.3 Preview 1 release scheduled for March 05.

  • Problem Calling BPEL process from ibot alert

    I am using following tutorial for calling java program from ibot.
    http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2007/12/17/oracle-bi-ee-101332-calling-java-scripts-and-java-classes-from-ibots/
    The program is getting compiled and at the time of alert it is showing no error at OracleBI home\server\Log\iBots\NQiBot.err. which can be assumed that it has been executed and initiated the BPEL process but no instance is shown in the BPEL Console.
    so pls help us for it
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
    thanks for reply, yes i have all dependency jars bundled in the main jar. When i try executing my java file then it is sucessfully triggering BPEL process. but When i am trying to execute the same java file from ibot. Then it is not executing by ibot.

    then the Error occurs in OracleBI\server\Log\iBots\NQiBot-3-64.0.err
