Scheduling list of values in BOXir3.1??

Hi all
not sure.. iam posting in right.. section
my question is..
i heard one my friend saying about scheduling the list of values..??
how can we do that... what is the purpose of scheduling the LOV's?
any one can explain me a bit on this or direct me to any docs
Thanks

how can we do that...
If you create an LOV in Crystal Reports or Business View Manager, you can use Business View Manager to automatically refresh your LOVs at preset intervals.  This functionality is available in Business View Manager Repository Explorer by right-clicking your list of values, and then clicking the Schedule LOV option.
what is the purpose of scheduling the LOV's?
LOVs can take a very long time to load and dramatically slow the presentation of a report.  By scheduling LOVs, you pre-populate them and enhance your LOV performance.  The sacrifice is that the LOV values will only be as recent as the last update.  This is a method most useful when querying large databases where up-to-the-minute data is not critical.

  • Issue with creating List of Values in Business View Manager

    Hi,
    Could any one help me to figure out what this issue refers to?
    When i created a List of Values in Business View Manager, it is throwing the following error!!!!
    The List of Values used by this parameter cannot be based on a Business View derived from the current Data Foundation or Business Element.
    Prior to creating LoV, i've done successfully with creating Data connection, Data foundation, Business element and Business View..
    Thanks
    Viswa

    Hi Visaw,
    Firstly,
    -->Open Repository Explorer,
    -->where you are have related DF,DC,BV,BEand LOV's
    -->Right click on LOV's -->There you can find Schedule list of values.Then schedule list of values and check if it prompts for errors.
    If you face the same problem, what is the error you are getting.
    Else try to use the LOV's and proceed further.
          -->Check whether the LOV's are pointing to the same Business View and check the Business view pointing to the same Datafoundation.
    If you are facing the same problem then try with the below steps:
    -->Try to Create a report at designer level Using then Business view
    -->Create two new parameters and select the existing parameters(LOV parameter's)
    -->Check whether it is working.
    -->If you  face the same problem ,Update the connection of Business view manager.
    Go to Database tab-->Select Set DataSource  location and update it with current Businessview Manager.
    Try this ,and let us know.

  • No data in Report parameter inspite of Scheduling of List of Values

    Hi,
    In the Business View Manager, I have created a Business View and LOV(List of Values) based on that view.
    The LOV consists of a cascaded prompt group that is used in certain Crystal Reports as under:
    > Loan Name
    >> Loan Subtype
    >>>  Channel Name
    All the three fields are coming from separate tables. Except table pertaining to Loan Subtype, all other tables and their fields have data. I am of the opinion that if I 'Schedule LOV' it should not prevent populating data into whatever fields from respective tables that contain data.
    I performed 'Schedule LOV' to get data up to Channel Name, and this did not help in bringing data in Loan Name within the parameter screen of Crystal Reports.
    Thereafter I performed 'Schedule LOV' to get data up to Loan Name, and even this did not help in bringing data in Loan Name within the parameter screen of Crystal Reports.
    Is it mandatory to have data in all fields used in LOV, for the data to appear in the highest level of parameter in cascaded prompt group. Your views are welcome.
    Regards,
    Neonevin

    Hi,
    I have created a new LOV upon the same Business View using the same fields in the format of highest level to lowest level as given below:
    > Loan Name
    >> Loan Subtype
    >>> Channel Name
    Then I perform the 'Schedule LOV' again but it does not help as the Report parameters still do not show any values for selection of values in prompt.
    I am getting the following error:
    Item SI_METADATA_ALL_DESCENDANTS was not found in the collection. (CrystalEnterprise115.FW_Properties.1)
    Is this an indication of some inconsistency. What exactly it could be ? How do I derive values in Report prompt through particular LOV ?

  • List of Values not showing up

    Hi,
    We have BOE 3.1 SP2 with PixPack 2.2 running on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64
    In InfoView, when scheduling a Web Intelligent Report, nothing shows in my List of Values in the Prompts. I hit the Refresh Values button and nothing comes up also.
    I'm new in the BO environment so I'm going here and there in the consoles.. I get the same problem when using and AD regular user account or the Enterprise Administrator account.
    I checked and added View On Demand for Everyone in my Universes and Connections....
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks
    Jay

    Hi Jay,
    Can you see the LOV when viewing the webi report?
    To see the LOV when viewing or scheduling webi, in "Edit Query" you need select "Prompt with List of Values". And in Universe designer, select "Associate a List of Values" in Properties tab of the object your parameter binds to.
    Thanks,

  • Problem in using the List of Values(LOV)

    We created a folder 'Testing FCG' in the Business View Manager.
    1) In this we created a new connection of TCD371 Database ( conn) ,
    2) We created a new Data Foundation(DF)  using the existing connection and we added table 'cdhpmember' in the DF
    3) We created a new business element(BE) using DF and we added the column like Firstname,Groupkey and Gendercode
    4) We created a Business View (BV) using DE and we added DE to the BV
    5) We created a LOV(Memkey) using BV and we selected memberkey field
    6) We tried to implement the memberkey field into crystal report as a dynamic parameter
    7) When we try to run the report we got the error like this
    Promting failed with the following error message: 'List of Values failure: failed to get values. [Cause of error:CSELOVDataSource::setReportInstanceCUID The List of Values did not schedule sucessfully and must be re-scheduled.]'.
    Error source : prompt.dll Error code: 0x8004380D
    Could any of you give your input on this error?

    Either store it in the session scope, or pass it as a (hidden?) parameter along the request.

    It's happening in Crysatl Report designer tool. Not able to run the report. There's not point deploying it in info view.

  • CR Svr 08 -XI3.0 -Refresh List of Values after BIAR import

    Hello
    I use Crystal Server 2008
    When I import reports from BIAR file, the lists of values that the reports use are created, and can be viewed/edited through Business Views Manager, on the destination.
    The data that the LOVs contain is the data from the source DB.
    Is it possible to use SDK to populate the LOV with data from the destination DB after the import?
    I mean force through a "Run now" type of operation, similar to the manual Scheduling operation on BVM.
    Best regards
    Patrick

    Hi Ted
    I thought as much.  How then should I enable the LOV to update?
    My LOV are not scheduled to update.  In BVM, when I look at the LOV, it tells me that the LOV will execute on demand.
    However, when i run a report using the LOV, the LOV is not populated.  I thought that would be the On Demand phase

  • List of Values Error

    I have a large cascading list of values (25,000 records) I get the error "An error has occurred: Request timed out." when I try to access the second level of the list of values.  The first level of list of values is based on:
    G_ID
    G_Name
    The second level is based on:
    S_ID
    S_Name
    I am using a stored procedure in Sybase 15.  Each G_ID record has the unique identifier in the table: G_CK.  The second level table contains the G_CK unique identifier.  I am joining the second level table on the G_CK field.  I have run the stored procedure in Sybase and confirmed that the results returned are correct.  All of the first level records are unique and all of the second level records match to the first level.
    Has anyone else received the "An error has occurred: Request timed out." error?  How is this corrected?
    I am using BOXI R2.  We have an in-house app that we use to schedule and view reports.  We are planning a BOXI 3.1 upgrade soon and are trying to confirm list of values will work with these larger datasets before we commit to using InfoView after the upgrade.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Change the default timeout for LOV's in the Registry or BOE configuration. Search and you'll find more info in BOE Admin forum and Kbase.

  • List of Values (dynamic parameter) times out once and then works.

    Hello.  First time posting here.  I'm having a strange (yet very predictable) issue with Crystals Reports List of Values.  The List of Values is used on a dynamic cascading prompt and is published to the BO XI R2 repository.  The prompt/list works fine when using Crystal Reports thick client, but when using the Crystal Reports viewer from InfoView the following happens everytime:
    1.  Any Report that uses the Parameter/LOV is launched.
    2.  After about 1-2 minutes, the viewer returns a "Timeout" error message.
    3.  The report is launched a 2nd time.
    4.  The parameters/LOVs display (takes about 8 seconds) and the report runs fine.
    Then anytime a report is run within a certain period of time it works ok.  But if no one runs a report for an extended period of time (i'm not sure how long, but it's on the order of maybe 30 mins.. to an hour), then it starts all over again.  In addition, if I restart the services/server this same thing will immediately occur.  (time out once, but work after that for a period of time).
    I initially did not schedule the LOV to get generated on the server and left it so that it's done in real-time when the report ran.  But then when I ran into this error, I tried scheduling it every 10 minutes or so, but the error continues to happen.
    I also restarted the server/etc to no avail.
    I saw another post on here that was kind of similar and that suggested that starting the LOV services as a domain user (that had admin rights on the BO server) helped him.  I tried this as well and restarted everything but that didn't fix my issue.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Scott

    Just wanted to update this.
    Because I use Business Objects OEM, I didn't have direct support with SAP/Business Objects.  However, because of this issue (and other issues) we purchased Business Objects Edge 3.0.
    After getting BOE 3 installed/configured, I migrated those reports and underlying Business Views over.
    And guess what?   The problem still occurred on the new platform.
    I then created a support incident and the person that initially tried to help me couldn't figure out what was going on.
    However, during that time, I did try re-creating the report using a newer version of Crystal (Crystal 2008) and the problem went away.  (note, I didn't recreate the business views.. just the reports).
    So bottom line:
    I created all reports from scratch instead of using the reports that I migrated from BO XI R2/CR XI and no longer had the problem.
    The techs never figured out the exact cause of the issue.
    So far, my experience with their support has been the same on all incidents.  They don't seem to be trained (at least at the 1st level) for actually using the debug/logs/etc to help quickly pinpoint/analyze issues.  They do basically like I do (the end user) and smartly poke around and do trail/error.  I have yet to get a support tech that knew the exact nature of my issue and could solve it without this kind of trial/error approach.

  • Question on list of value for both of deski and webi

    Hi,
       I have two questions on list of values issue: (we are using boxir3.1)
    1) on the deski, when I click on the Values on the 'Enter or Select Values' prmopt, the list of value it shows is not what it should be, it is pointed to other object, for expense, the value should show department code but the list of values shows the company name. I did refresh, and also refreshed on the universe side: restored default, automatic refresh before use. then export the universe, still doing the same. the only way to correct it I found so far is to change the prompt text which I don't prefer (we used userresponse in the report, it will be too much to change.
    2) for the webi report, when I click on the 'Refresh Values' on the prompts page, it shows (No value). I also checked on the universe side, did restored default, automatic refresh before use. then export the universe, still doing the same.
    Please help,
    Thanks,
    jt

    Try a new universe on the same connection, build the same objects. Just something simple to test the LOV results. If it doesn't work, it could be a data issue, or a permissions issue as suggested.
    You should check the SQL created for the LOV in the universe and verify that it's going to the right place.
    You can check to see if there is another LOV using the same name and if so, change it. The LOV name is found on the properties tab. You can find the LOV in the universe folder as a sub-folder from your environment. In my case, I have a folder named @Dev and a folder for universes inside that, then a folder beyond that with the universe name that contains the LOV files. Find the one in question and delete it, ensuring that it gets recreated.
    Try making sure that any unv and lov files on your server are purged. You may also need to test cache testings. The easy way to test if it's a cache issue is to reboot your system, which should clear the cache.

    Hi DrClap,
    I have a similar problem again. This time I am trying to extract a list of values from a xsd. Below is the code that I am using.
              try{
                   djxsd = new FileInputStream("djei-3.1.xsd");
                   XPathFactory factory = XPathFactory.newInstance();
                   XPath xpath = factory.newXPath();
                   SimpleNamespaceContext nsContext = new SimpleNamespaceContext();
                   xpath.setNamespaceContext(nsContext);
                   nsContext.addNamespace("xs", "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema");
                   nsContext.addNamespace("xsi","http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance");
                   +//String exp = "//xs:element/@name/text()";+
    String exp = "/xs:schema/xs:group/xs:sequence/xs:element";
                   XPathExpression xPathExpression= xpath.compile(exp);
                   NodeList result = (NodeList)xPathExpression.evaluate(doc, XPathConstants.NODESET);
                   FileOutputStream outputfile = new FileOutputStream("log.txt");
              for (int i = 0; i < result.getLength(); i++) {
                   Element element = (Element)result.item(i);
                   String output = element.getTextContent().trim();
                   if(output.length() > 0)
                        outputfile.write(output.getBytes());
                        //System.out.println(output);
    Highlighted in Itlalics is the actual expression that I want to use. For some reason this is not working .. it returns nothing.
    The other expression works. Please let me know if there is anything wrong with the expression.
