Scheduling the downloads of iTunes purchases?

I have the joy (not) of having satellite internet, with download restrictions. I can, however, use a download manager to defer files until the "unrestricted download time" in the wee hours of the morning. Is it possible to schedule my iTunes downloads for then? It seems when you click on "buy Song" it just immediately purchases and downloads.

I'm in the same boat as you --- HughesNet. My short answer is that you *used to* be able to do this, but in recent versions of iTunes something changed, and now you can't anymore. Continue reading to see how I did this in older versions of iTunes...or you can quit reading and instead curse Apple like I do since now I have to download an album over the course of 2 or 3 days to avoid hitting my "Fair Access Policy" limit of 200MB.
A few versions of iTunes ago, you could accomplish this using Scheduled Tasks in Windows. I'm currently running iTunes version 9.0.2.25, and my method doesn't work anymore.
But, in older versions (maybe you haven't upgraded yet?), here's what you could do (maybe someone will find a similar way to do this with recent versions...please???). It worked because when iTunes opened, it would automatically try to connect and download anything that needed to be downloaded (which isn't the case anymore).
What you do is use Windows Scheduled Tasks to launch iTunes, say, every morning at 3AM. You only need to create the Scheduled Task once.
After you created the Scheduled Task, you'd purchase your iTunes items as usual. Then on the Downloads page, click the Pause All button to pause all the downloads. Then close iTunes. At 3AM the next morning, your Scheduled Task will automatically open iTunes, and iTunes would start downloading.
Alas, this doesn't seem to work anymore because it seems iTunes refuses to automatically check for downloads and get them, or it forces you to re-enter your password. I've messed with various settings, but can't get it to work.

HOW DO I DOWNLOAD AN ITUNES PURCHASED MOVIE ONTO A FLASH DRIVE

If you want to back it up to the flash drive, download it normally, locate the downloaded file, and drag it there.
If you want the active iTunes library on the drive, locate it in the Finder or Windows Explorer, drag it there, launch iTunes with the Option(Mac OS X) or Shift(Windows) keys held down, and point it there.

  • How can I download previous iTunes purchases onto a new iPod using someone else's computer?

    Hi,
I've brought an ipod shuffle and need to download my itunes purchases but I don't have access to my own computer for another couple weeks.  How can I download from itunes?  I'm getting a message that the friend's computer I'm using can't use a different apple ID for 90 days - I'll be long gone by then and back with my own computer!!!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Multiple people can indeed use multiple Apple IDs on the same computer in multiple user accounts as long as they do not use iTunes Match, automatic downloads or re-download any past purchases. However, if you'll read the KB article I posted a link to you'll see that for the purposes of those services a computer can only be associated with one Apple ID every 90 days. If the OP associates their friend's computer with their Apple ID and downloads purchases from the purchase history the owner of the computer will be locked out from using iTunes Match, automatic downloads or re-downloading any past purchases.
It's not that the friend will be unable to use iTunes at all, but what the OP wants to do will associate their friend's computer to thier Apple ID for 90 days which may cause the friend some inconvinence.

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Can you schedule the downloading of app updates to a specific time?

Can you schedule the downloading of app updates to a specific time?

I honestly wouldn't do that.  You have no idea if the software update server will be properly functioning then.  Also you should always backup your data prior installing updates.
Note when you install updates, you also have the option to install later, but just download first.
Always make sure the updates work with each other by finding out the requirements from the developer before installing.  A clone backup will let you recover yourself to the point before the install, if you do it right.

Delete the song from your Itunes music list, then redownload it, Itunes will ask you if you if you want to download it for free.  This seems to be the fix for my problems.

where do I get the download from iTunes button art, rather than just stealing from someones site

Interesting. It looks to be available from the iTunes Affiliates resources for everyone:
    Affiliate Logo Guidelines and Art
... although it also says you ought to be an affiliate to actually use it.
It might be worth checking in with Apple Legal to see what the requirements are for using it, first. Here's contacts:

Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.

  • HT201272 I would like to download previous itune purchases on my I-Phone 4.  Everytime I plug my phone into the computer it says apple mobile device not started.  How do I fix this?

I want to download my previous purchases from my computer to my IPhone 4.  Everytime I plug my phone into my computer it says Apple mobile devices service is not started.  How do I fix this?

    Hello EFierro79,
I find it easiest to download my purchases directly to my iPhone.  You don't even need to connect your iPhone to iTunes.  As long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase the items, you will not be charged.
You can find the steps to do this under the section titled "Apps, Books, Music, Movies, or TV shows on iOS" in the following article:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Additionally, you can follow the steps in the article below to resolve the error "This [device] cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started."

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How do I download an iTunes purchase when it says "All purchases have been downloaded for this Apple ID."

I have a season pass, so I've already 'purchased' all episodes as they come out.
I get an e-mail saying a new episode is available, I go to iTunes, then Store > Check for Available Downloads...
After a few seconds, I get an error: "All purchases have been downloaded for this Apple ID."
This happens to me frequently. Eventually (usually when the next episode comes out), it just works.
It never allows me to start the download. Since the episode isn't recognized as being on my Apple ID to download in the first place, I obviously can't "re-download" it. Neither checking for downloads, nor redownloading will alow me to get the new episode.
Since I only have one Apple ID, I'm obviously using the right one. I just logged out of my Apple ID and back in, nothing. I changed my password and updated my Apple ID details, logged in again, nothing. I don't have any special firewalls/scanners/security software, just Apple's built-in Mac OS firewall.
This is iTunes 11.0.2 (the current version) on my MacBook Pro.
So... how do I get the episode?

I pressed my Apple support person to verify if this was a known issue, here is her response:
This is Irish again from the iTunes Store Support.
I have confirmed that this is a known issue. Please trust that Apple is currently working towards a resolution. I know that this has been said a lot, but I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.
As an alternative, we recommend our customers to try downloading the latest episodes through our iTunes in the Cloud feature.
For those of you who do not know how to download the episode manually:
    1.     Go to iTunes and log in
    2.     Go to the iTunes store, home page
    3.     On the right, click on "Purchased"
    4.     At the top, choose "TV Shows"
    5.     On the right, choose the TV show you want to download (eg: Walking Dead)
    6.     Choose the Season (3 for Walking Dead)
    7.     A window of episodes will open, scroll down to episode 30 and you'll notice it says it's not downloaded yet. 8.     Click on the Cloud icon and start downloading.
Not as easy as clicking once on "Check for available downloads!"
    Cole
