Schema Binding with VSS in SQL Developer

Hi guys is it possible to bind a Sql Developer or TOAD with Visual Source Safe or i can change database object in toad or sql developer and check in into VSS?
Thanks
Purvik

TOAD can do version control with any software that uses Microsoft's Source Code Control (SCC) API, which includes VSS. Look at the help pages for more info.
While SQL Developer only supports Subversion and CVS directly, I've used its External Tools capability to add ClearCase check out, check in, undo check out, and add capabilities. If you can do basic version control operations from the command line with Visual SourceSafe, you ought to be able to do the same thing. Just look up the syntax for the command line tools, and build your commands by selecting the Tools menu, select External Tools, and add a new tool. This is very much like creating a new desktop shortcut in Windows.

    Hopefully for you, the machine is not reachable from internet !
    Your giving online everything needed to log in as system ! that is quite dangerous. I guess the "Onsite team" would be pretty mad discovering that.
    You should edit your previous post before too much people get to it.
    Regarding your problem, I guess you can't get to the machine itself (maybe in a different network).
    Can you try to ping it from your computer ?ping 51.17.130.121
    This is a made-up IP, you'll have to replace with yours

  • Problems with printing from SQL Developer Data Modeler 2.0

    Hi,
    I am not able to print my Relational Model (SubView) from Data Modeler 2.0 Build 584. Only an empty page comes out. If I don't reduce the Print Scale (usually to 10-30%) I get something but then it is lots of pages. I have tried A4 and A3 format. Printing to JPEG or PDF seems to be ok.
    I have relational data model with 25 tables in my SubView.
    Is there any restriction on Print Scale or number of objects in the diagram?
    Do I have to install SQL Developer as well? I have just Data Modeler insalled.

    Hi Alex,
    There is newer version of Data Modeler (3.0 EA2) and it is free

  • Remote debugging with APEX and SQL Developer

    Hi,
    I have problems concerning breakpoints within my SQL Packages I want to debug.
    I want to force SQL-Developer to suspend execution of a function, so I can get forward step by step.
    The SQL-Developer do not stop executing at the breakpoints I set in the Package.
    The message I get is the following (on SQL-Developer side):
    Debugger accepted connection from remote process on port 4000.
    Processing 110 classes that have already been prepared...
    Finished processing prepared classes.
    Debugger disconnected from remote process.
    Seems to me, that the process runs into the debug-mode but leave without stopping at a given breakpoint??
    Do anybody have an idea how to solve it?
    We use Oracle 10.2.0.3.0, SQL Developer 1.5.1 and APEX 3.1.2.
    The Package-function I want to debug runs on another Oracle database as the APEX application.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Carsten,
    now I have done a further step. I can debug a remote PL/SQL-Package through APEX, but now I get an exception when the program execution jumps back to the APEX PL/SQL-Package.
    My APEX-Page-Process looks like this:
    BEGIN
      dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_tcp(host => 'IP-ADDRESS', port => '4201');
      APEX_TEST_PKG.remoteDebug;
      dbms_debug_jdwp.disconnect;
    END;The procedure APEX_TEST_PKG.remoteDebug looks like this (located on the APEX-DB):
    PROCEDURE startRemoteDebug
      AS
        v_string    VARCHAR2(50)   := '';
      BEGIN
        [email protected](host => 'IP-ADDRESS', port => '4000',
                 option_flags => dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_defer_suspension);
        v_string := [email protected];
        DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(v_string);
        [email protected];
      END remoteDebug; The procedure REMOTE_TEST_PKG.testFunc looks like this (located on the Remote-DB):
    FUNCTION testFunc RETURN VARCHAR2
      AS
        v_string    VARCHAR2(50)   := '';
      BEGIN
        v_string := 'Test';
      RETURN v_string;
    END testFunc; When I start the debug session without the option dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_defer_suspension, I get an exception Oracle.EXCEPTION_ORA_604.
    Starting the debug session with the above mentioned option, I am able to debug the remote function.
    But now I get an exception when the executor tries leaving the remote function going back to the invoking function. With the debugger I can step over the return-statment successfully and the debugger steps on the next line END testFunc;. On this line I get the exception above
    Exception breakpoint occurred at line -1 of PBREAK.pls.
    $Oracle.Builtin.EXCEPTION_USER:
    Exception breakpoint occurred at line -1 of PBREAK.pls.
    $Oracle.Builtin.EXCEPTION_USER: I tried another way where I get now exception and where I can step through my functions in APEX, descending to functions in the remote db and going back to APEX.
    For this case I put the debug-statements in remote function:
    FUNCTION testFunc RETURN VARCHAR2
      AS
        v_string    VARCHAR2(50)   := '';
      BEGIN
        dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_tcp(host => 'IP-ADDRESS', port => '4000');
        v_string := 'Test';
        dbms_debug_jdwp.disconnect;
      RETURN v_string;
    END testFunc; But I have no idea why it doesn't work properly starting the remote debug session in the apex procedure.
    Regards
    Michael

  • Importing data into tables with grant access (sql developer 3.2)

    Hello,
    I want to import data into a table PAY_BALANCE_BATCH_LINES which is an interface table. I'm logged in to a schema (APPS) and this table belongs to the HR schema. However, if you look at the grants, the APPS schema has all access to this particular table. In TOAD, this used to work great.
    But in sqldeveloper, when I filter the tables dropdown, I am not able to find this table. Since this is my primary way of uploading data I'm not sure how else I can get access to upload data into this table. I don't know the password for the HR schema by the way.
    Is there a way out?
    Many Thanks

    Scroll down the tree to the 'Other Users' node, expand it, and then drill down into HR > Tables. Then do your import.
    For an alternative browser, right-click on your connection in the tree and open a Schema Browser.

    Right click on the build model node and then select View Models from the menu. You will get a list of the models that were build. Select one of these and you can then see the details of the model. For example if you select the Decision Tree model, you will see the decision tree etc

  • SQL Developer incredibly slow to load Application Schema ~15 minutes

    Hi, I am evaluating SQL Developer to see if it is a viable alternative to TOAD and although it compares favourably on it's functionality offering it is unusable when I try to connect to a remote applications database. It seems to attempt to load all PL/SQL objects from the remote server even if I am only opening a single procedure or package.
    For example, if i want to view the packages in the apps schema then I expand the packages tree control in the connections browser. This takes ~15 minutes to complete! TOAD, while also slow, takes ~30 to 40 seconds.
    This obviously makes the tool useless. Does anyone else get this problem?

    Just to clarify, the slowness is only seen in packages? Or when loading the list of procedures or functions as well?
    Can you run the following SQL in the worksheet? Replace the :SCHEMA binds with the schema you are querying (so 'HR' or whatever), and execute it using the 'Run Script' button (or F5). The join in the query seems slow, but I wanted to see if that seems to be the majority of the problem, or if there is something else wrong as well (a fetch size issue, or a problem when we create the actual nodes in the tree).

  • SQL Developer 4.0 EA2 -- Cannot use OpenLDAP with LDAP connect option

    Hi,
    I've got OpenLDAP setup to work with my Oracle clients, to serve up TNS connect strings, in lieu of having tnsnames.ora files scattered about hundreds of servers.
    This is working fine with 10g/11g, both full and instant clients, no problem.
    Now, I'm trying to configure SQL Developer 4.0 EA2 working with it, as well.
    When I attempt to do so, I'm able to select the "LDAP" option in "Connection Type", and the "LDAP Server" drop down list is correctly populated with my LDAP server, from ldap.ora.
    However, when I select it, I get the following error:
    Status : Failure -[LDAP: error code 32 - No Such Object]
    Now, I've done some research, and I monitored the slapd.log file, which shows me the following:
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 fd=16 ACCEPT from IP=192.168.125.1:63781 (IP=0.0.0.0:389)
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=0 BIND dn="" method=128
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=0 RESULT tag=97 err=0 text=
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=1 SRCH base="" scope=2 deref=0 filter="(objectClass=orclContext)"
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=1 SEARCH RESULT tag=101 err=32 nentries=0 text=
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 op=2 UNBIND
    Sep 18 02:43:35 einstein slapd[2779]: conn=1034 fd=16 closed
    Which is a lot more detail, but reflects the corresponding error code, (32 - No Such Object).
    After doing some testing with ldapsearch, I've been able to replicate what SQL Developer is doing, and get the exact same error.
    That ldapsearch command is:
    ldapsearch -h einstein -p 389 -c -x -D "" -b "" "(objectClass=orclContext)"
    Looking in the slapd.log file, I find an identical error to what is produced from SQL Developer.
    Further, the query that SQL Developer wants to do can be successfully done with the following ldapsearch:
    ldapsearch -h einstein -p 389 -c -x -D "" -b "dc=proquest,dc=com" "(objectClass=orclContext)"
    So, it seems the problem is with the fact that SQL Developer is not supplying a search base.
    I'm no LDAP expert, and I'm really not sure where to turn next....
    Is there a SQL Developer option that allows me to set that search base?  Is there a configuration I'm missing on the LDAP server configuration?
    Thanks,
    -Mark

    Well, that didn't take long.  I managed to find a solution to the problem.
    It comes down to the fact that SQL Developer doesn't supply a search base, and my LDAP server didn't have a default search base defined.
    When I edited slapd.conf (the OpenLDAP config file) and added a "defaultsearchbase" parameter, and bounced the LDAP server, everything started to work.
    I now have a working configuration with OpenLDAP and SQL Developer.
    I'll mark this discussion as closed.

  • Statement terminator problems when exporting data with SQL Developer 3.2

    I've ran across what appears to be a bug with SQL Developer 3.2.20.09. If someone can let me know if this is indeed a bug, or just something I need to configure differently, please let me know.
    The problem is related to exporting a database as a SQL script, and terminator characters at the end of "create" statements, especially when columns have comments, and problems that occur when using SQLPlus to run the export script to create the tables. With the old SQL Developer 1.5.4, with the "Terminator" and "Pretty Print" options checked, statements like the following are generated:
    -- DDL for Type NUM_ARRAY
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "NUM_ARRAY"
    IS TABLE OF NUMBER(20)
    -- DDL for Sequence MYTABLE_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "MYTABLE_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 20 NOORDER NOCYCLE ;
    -- DDL for Table MYTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "MYTABLE"
    (     "MYTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" NUMBER,
         "COL3" NUMBER
    -- DDL for Table ANOTHERTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "ANOTHERTABLE"
    (     "ANOTHERTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" VARCHAR2(1024),
         "COL3" VARCHAR2(1024)
    COMMENT ON COLUMN "ANOTHERTABLE"."ANOTHERTABLE_ID" IS 'This is a comment.';
    When I then run the script using SQLPlus, everything works fine. However, with SQL Developer 3.2.20.09, with the same options enabled, the same statements are generated like this:
    -- DDL for Type NUM_ARRAY
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "NUM_ARRAY"
    IS TABLE OF NUMBER(20)
    -- DDL for Sequence MYTABLE_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "MYTABLE_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 20 NOORDER NOCYCLE ;
    -- DDL for Table MYTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "MYTABLE"
    (     "MYTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" NUMBER,
         "COL3" NUMBER
    -- DDL for Table ANOTHERTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "ANOTHERTABLE"
    (     "ANOTHERTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" VARCHAR2(1024),
         "COL3" VARCHAR2(1024)
    COMMENT ON COLUMN "ANOTHERTABLE"."ANOTHERTABLE_ID" IS 'This is a comment.';
    Notice all of the extra slashes in there. If a slash is not used as a statement terminator, SQLPlus treats slashes as a command to repeat the last SQL statement, which causes many errors about tables or sequences already existing. So, I tried removing the "Terminator" flag from the export options. This lead to statements that looked a bit more promising:
    -- DDL for Type NUM_ARRAY
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "NUM_ARRAY"
    IS TABLE OF NUMBER(20)
    -- DDL for Sequence MYTABLE_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "MYTABLE_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 20 NOORDER NOCYCLE
    -- DDL for Table MYTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "MYTABLE"
    (     "MYTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" NUMBER,
         "COL3" NUMBER
    -- DDL for Table ANOTHERTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "ANOTHERTABLE"
    (     "ANOTHERTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" VARCHAR2(1024),
         "COL3" VARCHAR2(1024)
    COMMENT ON COLUMN "ANOTHERTABLE"."ANOTHERTABLE_ID" IS 'This is a comment.'
    The big problem, though, is in the statement for the table with a comment. Notice that there are two statements, but there is not a semicolon after either of them. This unfortunately causes the "COMMENT" statement to be appended to the "CREATE TABLE" statement before being executed, which causes the table to not be created (which causes even more errors later on when the script attempts to populate the table with data).
    So, it would appear that this is a bug, but I'm not sure. Is there a way I can configure the export options to make SQL Developer export these statements like it used to in older versions?
    Thanks,
    -Bill

    - SQL Developer 3.2.09 64-bit
    - OCI Instant client 11.2.0.3 64-bit (without installation).
    The thing that solved the problem was copying two files, ojdbc5.jar and ojdbc6.jar, from Instant client installation folder to JAVA_HOME/lib/ext folder+.
    After that, I haven't had a single crash or error message.
    The same trick that solved the problem on 64-bit installation also solved the problem on another windows computer with 32-bit SQL Developer installation.

  • Connection with SQL Server 2000 to SQL Developer 1.2 Migration Workbench

    Hi all,
    I keep getting the following error with setup for SQL Developer 1.2 Migration Workbench connection to SQL Server 2000 database:
    "Status: Failure -Network error IOException: Connection refused:connect"
    I can access the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database with username
    and password using Enteprise Manager. However for some odd
    reason the Oracle SQL Developer 1.2 cannot connect to it.

    I was having this problem too. I'll mangle this explanation, but Our SQLServer instance was on a local server with some named DNS something. So, to get to the server, we used theservername.outdomain instead of an IP. We could never get it to connect through the named server. We got an SQLServer instance going on a server that we could connect to through a regular IP, and it connected just fine.
    Also, are you using the JTDS driver, or microsofts driver? We have only been able to connect with the JTDS driver. http://jtds.sourceforge.net/
