SCO for SCORM

I'm just starting out with the whole SCORM stuff and need a few pointers. I have multiple flash files (with no learning interaction, just information content) and a Quiz (sucessfully packaged and comunication with SCORM Cloud).
I figured that I would just put these flash files into dreamweaver web pages to create single SCOs then use the multi SCO packager (from eLearing suite) to combine them with my quiz and get a Muli-SCO SCORM package.
However I don't know where to start (my background is Director creating kiosk based e-learning). The SCORM runtime wrapper looked ideal but is long since depricated.
Is there a new way of packaging Dreamweaver pages as SCOs?

The multi-SCO intro video shows it packaging Flash and Dreamweaver as single SCOs and they are both part of Adobe's e-learning suite.
I know Flash has learning elements and Dreamweaver has the course builder extension but I need to package Flash with no learning elements. I have the content of a couple of dozen courses in Flash  and I can build the quiz easily enough.
Is there anything that can package up a single Dreamweaver (with embedded Flash) as a single SCO in the same way that the SCORM runtime wrapper used to do before it became out of date?

How can we publish a flash 8 file for scorm 2004? when i try

Not sure what you mean by "does not give me and xml file for
the reference" but if you are asking about the imsmanifest.xml and
associated .xsd and .dtd files, you need to generate these or use a
packager like Reload Editor to package your lessons. Go to

  • Internet Explorer not recording scores for SCORMS

I am having a problem with Internet Explorer not recording the scores for SCORMS developped in Captivate 7.   A Forum in Moodle suggested that the problem is that Internet Explorer always has an error with the instruction DoBeforeUnload.  I can see that this is always causing a problem.  Do you have any suggestions or work arounds for this?

I am using Captivate 7 to produce the SCORMS, and the courses are hosted in MOODLE 2.5.  The scores are recorded well in google Chrome but not in Internet Explorer. I have been trying out the courses with Internet Explorer 10 and 11 and both produce the same error:
A moodle forum suggested that IE10 and IE11 do not like the command DoBeforeUnload, and need the command BeforeUnload. (I have checked the Moodle SCORM API and the commands and scores are being sent.)

  • LSO: Tracking Course progress for SCORM Courses

How does SAP track progress/placeholders for SCORM-enabled published Captivate projects, that is, if a learner stops playing content part way through, is the learner placed back where they left off when they return?

    Hi Harshal,
I'm not a Captivate super-user nor a content expert, but it's always important to ensure that the publishing settings are refined to pass the data that is important to the customer (it sounds like you need 'location' in this instance) and that the settings align with the instructional intent of the content.  In other words, help them determine what data they need for functionality and reporting and publish the content to reflect that - not less and also not more, to ensure the optimal amount of data is passed to the LMS.
    Good luck,

  • Can anyone tell me where to find a manifest maker for SCORM 1.2 for Flash projects?

Hi... I have a group of Win 7 based Flash CS6 projects and need to have a manifest maker s/w to create the SCORM 1.2 required manifest of all the files. I used to use a free downloadable manifest maker from the web but it seems to be gone.
I am using the Dreamweaver Manifest Maker extension which is perfect for Dreamweaver but I also need one for Flash based projects.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

No one here knows what you have tried in the past.
The suggested solution was a possibility. One that some folks wouldn't think about. You have already ruled out a new cable as a solution 8 times.
My mixture of 9 pin FW cables are all snug to the fit - all appear to be different vendors.
My apologies for having made a 'foolish' suggestion.

  • Presenter 7 Question Description for SCORM Interactions

I am trying to support a client using our LMS. He is creating SCORM 2004 content with quizzes using Adobe Presenter 7. He has chosen to report question-level details for the quiz interactions. All data comes through in the LMS just fine, except for the question description. So, what you get is a list of the answers the student entered compared to the correct answer, without any identifier about what the question is that is being answered. Without the question name, text, or description, the interaction data is useless. Where in Adobe Presenter can he add the question description?  If not in Presenter, then can it be added as a tag in the quiz XML file? What should the tag be, and where should we add it? The question description text is a feature that is supported by SCORM 2004, so it should be possible to add. I have personally created tests in Lectora that populate this field in our LMS.
Results reported from the Presenter Quiz in our LMS:
Results reported from a Lectora Quiz in our LMS:
    Thank you!

    SG,
If I read your question correctly, the ability to capture the results at the "question level" is going to be a Connect feature for sure.
As with Dr. C's response indicating that Moodle & Blackboard LMSs track Presenter content, I can also tell you that Presenter content is also tracked on Docent, Knowledge Planet &  GeoLearning LMS platforms, just to name a few.
However, just understand that although Presenter content can pass SCORM data, it's ability to communicate which selection a learner picked to answer a question is a Connect feature that most of the other LMS platforms cannot account for.

  • Optional CMI elements for SCORM 1.2

I've been working on some e-learning training adding necessary SCORM coding for a designer. At first, the modules were to run under Moodle but now it seems that OLM is to be used. Having never used this before and not yet having access to the LMS, I'm trying to find some answers to what are probably daft questions.
    1. The client keeps referring to the LMS as Oracle, but there appears to be iLearning and OLM - are these different?
    2. I know that OLM is SCORM 1.2 compliant, but the modules have been created use the optional cmi.objective elements and I cannot find any technical specification that states whether these elements and / or other optional elements are available.
    Regards,
    Mack

    1. Yes. iLearning is a standalone application separate from the Oracle eBusiness Suite that integrates with other systems via webservices. Oracle Learning Management (OLM) is a native Oracle eBusiness Suite Product that is integrated module of the Oracle HR Suite of products (shared tables etc)
    2. Oracle Learning Management supports the optional SCORM 1.2 objectives elements. The "Deploying e-Learning Content on Oracle Learning Management" white paper, available on My Oracle Support, discusses this and other relevant items.

  • Multi-SCORM Packager Takes the SCO Title from the wrong field

I think I've just stumbled across a huge bug in the Cp7 Multi-SCORM Packager tool.  Can anyone else confirm seeing this same issue?
I have a multi-SCORM course with several modules.  Each SCO is set up in the LMS Manifest dialog with a unique ID in the SCO Identifier field (e.g. My_Course_Module_ID) and the SCO Title field underneath has the correct name of the same module (e.g. My Course Module).  When published to SCORM zip files the imsmanifest.xml files for these modules are correct.
However, I've just discovered that when packaging up a number of these SCORM modules using the Multi-SCORM Packager tool, the resulting imsmanifest.xml file it produces is NOT using the SCO Title. When uploaded to an LMS the SCO Title shown in the LMS TOC seems to be whatever had been used as the Project Title field text in the Publish dialog at the time the SCO was published.
Here's the issue: The Publish Title field ends up being used for the file names of the output.  So if you use a Project Title such as: My Course Module it will mean your HTM and SWF output file are named as My Course Module.htm and My Course Module.swf.  The problem with this is obviously that the spaces in the filenames mean you cannot use them on the web.  So, I normally use a lowercase name with underscore characters in the Project Title field (e.g. my_course_module) to ensure the output is web-compatible (e.g. my_course_module.htm, my_course_module.swf).
It doesn't matter whether you are publishing for SCORM 1.2 or 2004, the result is the same. The TOC in the LMS comes out with the wrong text string.  The issue with this bug in the Multi-SCORM Packager taking the Title attribute for the imsmanifest.xml from the wrong dialog field means that the TOC strings displayed in the LMS are incorrect.  So far I've found no way to resolve this issue other than manually modifying the combined imsmanifest.xml.
Has anyone else seen this issue?  Can Adobe confirm if this is a known bug/issue so that I know if I need to log it or not?  Is there a fix or workaround (other than manually editing each and every imsmanifest.)

    Shriyansh,
Are you using the Cp7 version of the Multi-SCORM Packager or the Cp8 version?  I'm talking about the Cp7 packager app.
I've tried this Cp7 SCORM Packager on two different machines installed a year apart and they both do the same thing.
Here is my Manifest dialog settings:
Note that what I'm expecting to see in the TOC of the LMS SCORM Player is the Title field name of the SCO (About Working in Courts in this case).  But what I'm seeing appear is actually not that field, and it's not even the SCO ID field above it.  (I tried changing that field as well to see if its value was what ended up getting written into the imsmanifest.xml for the multi-SCORM package.)
What ended up being used as the Title of the SCO in the package turned out to be the contents of the Publish dialog's Project Title field.
I verified this by changing the values in this Project Title field for a couple of SCOs, published them to zips and then compiled them into a Multi-SCORM.  THEN  I was seeing those values in the TOC of the LMS player.
Currently, when I create a Multi-SCORM Package with the Cp7 app, here's what I see in the Title tags of the Organizations block:
As you can see above, what's coming out is NOT the SCO Title tag value from the Manifest dialog, and although it looks similar, it's not the SCO ID either.  The value is in fact taken from the Publish dialog's Project Title field.
Weird.  I've never seen this issue in any previous version of the Multi-SCORM Packager tool.
Any ideas why this is getting so badly screwed up?

  • Seeking Software for Creating Manifest for Sequenced SCOs

Can anyone make a recommendation for software to create the
manifest for a SCORM 2004 course with complex sequencing? I am
constructing a course that is made from multiple SCO's that are
created in Captivate 3 and intended to be played linearly. The
course should launch the SCO's in the appropriate sequence as
determined by the "open new project" instructions at the end of
each project. We do not want to hand-code the entire manifest. I
have many courses that will use this same approach. I have heard of
Manifest Maker softwares out there for SCORM 1.2 and Dreamweaver,
but can't seem to find one for SCORM 2004. Trying to exhaust all
possibilities before replacing Captivate or redesigning entire
    course.
(I found this posting on another forum and borrowed the
language to make sure I was getting the important points across -
desperately hoping the right people see this and have the answer
    we're looking for!) Thanks.

  • Interaction report in Fronter fails... SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 problems...

I am using Captivate 2.0 and trying to make a SCORM content
that will report user interaction in the new Fronter 7.1
(www.fronter.com). I use the reload SCORM 1.2 player for complaince
check, since I do not have one for SCORM 2004 (
    http://www.reload.ac.uk/scormplayer.html)
I have created a test cp file with just one question and 7
slides. I pack the output in .zip with SCORM 1.2.
When loading into the reload player I get the error message
    Problem validating manifest
    (file:C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Martin/reload/reload-scorm-player/server/webapps/reloa d-scorm-player/course-packages/22/imsmanifest.xml:

not allowed to appear in element 'lom'.
I can see the .xml manifest from Captivate and line 12. The
manifest is posted at the bottom of this page.
Now when I use the LMS system fronter 71, which has SCORM
2004 and SCORM 1.2 support, the whole package loads and reports
pass/fail but not the user interactions. Fronter 71 has support for
this, and I would like to know what I have done wrong. I tried both

  • Oil 5.2:No SCORM API calls in java trace file

    Hi,
I am running a java trace for SCORM 2004 course. I don't see any SCORM api calls or cmi variables in the java trace (initialize(""), setvalue, getValue etc..). The course is set to tracked and the DEBUG is ON. Is the SCO communicating with the LMS?
I have tested other SCORM 2004 courses, and they do show api calls in the java trace file.

  • Problems with Scorm and Captivate

There appears to be a major problem with Scorm compliance and Captivate 4.
From my understanding, Scorm 1.2 requires that the Manifest include the filenames of all resource files in order to import them. It appears that when Captivate externalizes its resources (Skins, etc) it does not include them in the Manifest. This is because Captivate does not dynamically create the manifest, but rather uses template manifest to fill in variables. The file that is missing from the template is untitled_skin.swf. Below is the template and the output from my test. From the template, it does not appear that Captivate will support anything other than a single SWF and be compliant with Scorm 1.2 (1.2 Scorm Specs http://www.imsglobal.org/content/packaging/cpv1p1p2/imscp_bestv1p1p2.html)

    Michael,
SCORM packages do have a number of "must-haves", but the listing of every last resource asset is more a best practice (although a good idea).
The content doc that you reference actually states that it is a best-practice document at the top.
My stand has always been that in the long run you are much better off if you follow all the rules (especially as the standards evolve and build on each other) so I would love to see captivate list all the resources in the future.
Importantly though, for any SCORM certified LMS there are two instances where resources MUST be listed.
First, if it is the href launch file for that particular resource (i.e. <resource identifier="SCO_ID1_RES" type="webcontent" href="untitled.htm"adlcp:scormtype="sco"> in your example) then obviously it must be listed in order for LMS to serve up the next part of the course.
The other time it must be listed is if that particular resource is actually a "dependency sub-element" of whatever sco or other resource it applies to.
As long as you have those bases covered, and all the other rules of course (schemas definitions, etc...) it should still pass the appropriate ADL conformance test suite.
I use both captivate 3 and 4 with a whole host of different LMS systems and have found the generated files to be quite sufficient for basic packaging needs.
Although, I have made a few customizations based on comments I have read from Andrew Cherney and Mike Rustici (I try to read everything either one of them answers for someone on the forum).
If you are saying that a particular LMS is doing some kind of "import validation" before it accepts and allows you to publish your content, then that is actually quite common (though usually transparent unless you hit a snag in the validation).
Typically, the validation will consist of a shortened version of the same basic items that the ADL test suite checks for (schemas and declarations, launch files, etc..).
That said, if because of an LMS that you need to account for, you absolutely NEED to have all the files listed in the manifest, a great tool for ensuring that is actually free.
It is called RELOAD, and if you ever take one of the courses run by the ADL Academic Co-Lab (which I highly recommend) that is the tool they use for teaching about packaging and sequencing.
Very useful tool for creating new packages or editing existing packages as well as adding metadata, sequencing rules and so on.
RELOAD lets you drag and drop whole directories of resources and set their dependency requirements so you could use it to quickly add all your resources to the manifest.
    This is their website:
    http://www.reload.ac.uk/
I can generally get by with just the files that captivate generates for scorm 1.2 , but for any heavy lifting (i.e. dynamic sequencing in scorm 2004), I always bring RELOAD into the picture.
I hope this was helpful.  I tend to ramble on about standards sometimes...

  • SCORM 2004 and multiple projects

    Hi
I wish to create a course that has several small
systemtraining modules and an assessment in the end.
I wish for the user to be able to take the modules in the
order he or she wishes. I was thinking of creating a menu slide
from where there are links to the modules, but when creating the
scorm package, only the menu page is in the package. Is there
anyway to go about this. Say copying the swf. and htm. files into
the scorm-packages, but what about bookmarking and tracking then? I
read that you could do this for SCORM 1.2 using dreamweaver to
build the menu. I hope someone will be able to help me out here.
    Kind regards
    Miss H K

I've never tried this but when you publish a project using
the SCORM outputs in Captivate you can specify the SCO information.
(Look in the Manifest section on the Reporting page). A SCORM
package can be made up with multiple SCOs, so I'm guessing it
should be possible to build a SCORM package containing each
Captivate project as a seperate SCO.
I've had a brief look and I think you can edit the XML in the
manifest that gets produced to add the extra projects as SCOs.
When you open the course in something like Reload SCORM
player you can see the SCOs listed in a menu.
I've no idea whether this works i.e. whether it reports
results back to the LMS correctly or not but it might be worth
    further investigation.
    Cheers

  • SCORM Publishing Issue

We are trying to publish a course organized as separate
daisy-chained files, so we can provide the user feedback on
interactions and quizzes throughout the course, to a single SCORM
2004 folder. Our question is, how do we publish the separate
project files into one zip file and load it into our SCORM player
so that the user's experience will be seamless as they move from
one project to the next within the same course? Or, how do we
generate multiple daisy-chained project files that use one Manifest
for SCORM purposes? We published separate project files (as Flash
outputs), zipped them and then tried to upload them to the SCORM
player. But it stopped uploading after the first project, we think
because it found a manifest file and stopped, as it can only take
    one manifest file per course.
    Whew, that was a mouthful.

Have heard/read good things about them, so I'll trust that's
    all true.

    linked project files?
Captivate can't do this on its own but you're right (I'm
    pretty sure)
that this all has to be handled by one big custom manifest
    file..which
    you'll have to customize yourself.
There is a manifest builder extension for DW from the Adobe
    Exchange but
I don't know if it would help in this case.
Doesn't Rustici have some sort of Manifest Builder tool? Or I
    know I've
seen references to a couple others out there. A web search
    should reveal
    a tool that may help...
    > My understanding is that publishing the full course in
    one

    can't report back on all

    current set-up of the Review

    would be problematic.
You should be able to report on all the interactions, though
    I agree
that trying to scatter a variety of quizzes throughout the
    lesson would
likely be a problem. CP seems to just work with one set quiz
    (though
I've not used that feature much). Regardless, you're
    definitely correct
that working with such a large CP file would probably bring
    headaches of
    its own.
    > So we
    > are trying to break each section into its own project
    file and daisy-chain
    > them. But if I cannot generate those files in a way that
    the SCORM 2004 player
    > can recognize and deploy, then I don't know what else to
    do.
I think you're on the right track with the manifest
    customization but
figuring that out is a chore in itself. Perhaps look at tools
    that
create such manifest during the publishing process to gain
    some insight
as to the structure? I believe Thesis (by HunterStone) does
    this when
    converting Office documents to SCOs.
Ultimately, you need to do something CP can't handle. So your
    best bet
is to either search for a 'manifest maker' tool, research the
    depths of
how to structure the manifest manually, hire out the process,
    or use a
    different tool.
    Wish I had better suggestions!

  • SCORM completion w/o a quiz

I have a number of presentations which we need to export for
SCORM to run in SABA. However, the presentations don't actually
have a quiz. I want them to be marked as complete in the LMS when
the user finishes the last slide of the presentation. Is this
    possible? If so, how?
    Cheers

Best way to troubleshoot this is to identify exactly what
    changes were
made, revert back to versions that did work properly, and
    slowly
implement those same changes - 1 by 1 - until you hit upon
    the problem
    again.
I've seen inconsistencies as you describe, but always in the
    case where
there are several quiz questions that are being fully tracked
    (question,
answer, selected response). Captivate waits something like 4
    seconds
between posts to the LMS with the most recent activity. If
    there is a
lot of data, that can take a while...so the user may quit the
    lesson
before the update is made....resulting in lost bookmarks
    and/or improper
    completion status.
Not sure why that would happen with a non-quiz lesson.
    Perhaps minimize
the tracking options in the Quiz Preferences?
Also start as 'fresh' as you can in the LMS. Ensure the
    previous lesson
is reset or removed before uploading the new version, or
    change the
name/manifest to ensure the SCO is uploaded as a new lesson.
