  • SCOM 2012 monitoring IIS - windows updates generate SCOM alerts

We are using SCOM 2012 to monitor our environment. There is a logic implemented to suppress alerts (using maintenance mode) when Windows Updates cause system reboot.
    We followed:<o:p></o:p>
    http://operatingquadrant.com/2009/08/15/scom-automatically-starting-maintenance-mode-when-servers-are-rebooted-for-patching/<o:p></o:p>
Basically when in system event log event id 1074 appears then system is put in Maintenance mode. There is a problem with some IIS web servers - they
generate a lot of alerts when Windows Updates are installed (e.g. Microsoft Windows Internet Information Services 2003 Application Pool is Unavailable)
and before windows reboot. In details:
5:08 AM - Windows update installation in event log (event id 19)e.g.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 (KB2972106)
5:09 AM - SCOM generates alerts: Microsoft Windows Internet Information Services 2003 Application Pool is Unavailable
5:17 AM - event id 1074: The process winlogon.exe has initiated the restart of computer. SCOM put this server in Maintenance mode.
After 5:17 AM no more alerts generated by SCOM
We cannot change our logic and put system in maintenance mode based on event ID 19 (windows update installation) because there are a
lot of event ID 19 events generated almost every day. So we do not want to put our server in maintenance mode each time when windows updates are installed. Just when windows update installation cause some IIS features stops. Any idea?

  • ICal default alert always Message with Sound? (10.7.3)

Please, can I have an option to change this setting? If I set the preferences to generate an alert with new events, it always has 2 alerts, one message and one sound (I think it is a recording of one of the mechanical parts of a MBP breaking ). Is that normal behaviour. I see it independent of the backend (local calendar, Exchange, Google, you name it.) Message is fine, but I don't want (any) sound.

I have the same problem, but I'm not using MobileMe. When I create an event in my iPhone4 (IOS4.1) with an alert, I want this event to show up in iCal with an alert of "Message with sound" after syncing with iTunes. Otherwise I have to check every new event that I created on my iPhone again on my Mac to change the alert type. Probably some people want it otherwise and would rather have the "Message" (without sound) type of alert, so the best thing would be to have the choice between sound or no sound on the iPhone when entering a new event with an alert.

  • What is wrong with my Iphone 4s when it won't alert me by sound when text is received

What is wrong with my Iphone 4s when it wont alert me by sound when text is received?

You use the side control and make sure your phone isn't on vibrate.  Up is for ringer down is for vibrate.

  • Change Calendar default custom alert preference to email with sound?

Most annoying aspect of the new Apple Calendar is that the preference is pre-set for 2 email alerts at the same time before each event. It's time-consuming to re-set a custom alert time, eliminate the 2nd alert and set my preferred custom alert method every time I add an event.
I want to re-set my default preference for "email with sound" and have one alert at the "time of the event" unless I choose to add additional alerts.
    Is this possible?
Note: I tried changing my Alert preference to "at time of the event" in Calendar Preferences, restarted and the default still shows up as alerting me twice, both 30 minutes before even though it does show as "at tme of the event" in Preferences.

  • Why does my iPhone 6 Plus alert me with the wretched tri-tone for everything instead of the sounds I designate?

In my settings, under Sounds, I assigned purposefully a tone for each type of alert. But none of them work. When I get a tweet alert, I hear the tri-tone. When I get a Facebook alert I hear a tri-tone. I hate the tri-tone! What do I need to do to get my iPhome to alert me with the tones i designate to each type of alert?

Did you use those 3rd party apps on an older iPhone and restored the new iPhone from that backup? If yes, maybe reinstalling the apps will help.
I had a similar problem changing the sound for Whatsapp, until I found that there are extra settings within the app.
Did you try only one other sound or multiple options? Maybe only sounds from the time before iOS 8 are working with FB and Tweet.

  • Notifications not being generated for alerts generated by rules.

I'm using SCOM 2012 R2 and have configured an alert generating rule to create alerts when specific events occur in a windows event log.
The rule works fine, alerts are generated as expected.
I have also configured subscriptions/subscribers/channels to send notifications via email and SMS (via script in command channel) however even with the criteria set to send on all alerts, I only receive notifications for alerts generated by monitors (so
I know the subs and channels do function)
It seems like some sort of workflow issue where alerts generated by a rule fail to create a notification.
Is there any logging I can enable to see what's happening here?
    Any other ideas?

In System Center 2012 Operations Manager, the alert notification will be sent when the alert first meets all criteria, regardless of resolution state, unless resolution state itself is a criterion. If alert suppression is enabled for the rule or monitor
that raises an alert, only one notification will be sent when the subscription criteria are first met. No additional notifications will be sent until the alert is closed and a new alert is raised that meets all subscription criteria.  PLease check
    1) whether your rule has trun on alert supression
    2) Close the alert, craised by rule,  and do it again

  • No Server Name displyed in mail notification Alert generated by "total CPU Utilization Percentage is too high" Monitor

    Hello Everyone,
I need your assisstance in one of the issues with Mail Notification Alert generated by SCOM.
    Mail notification received as below:
Alert: Total CPU Utilization Percentage is too high
    Severity: 2
ServerName:Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard  - The threshold for the Processor\% Processor Time\_Total performance counter has been exceeded. The values that exceeded the threshold are: 97.091921488444015% CPU and a processor queue length of 16.
    Last modified by: System
The Alert was generated by "Total CPU Utilization Percentage"
But the problem with the above mail notification is it doesn't mentions about the affected server. So I would like to know how to tweak the monitors to provide the server name into it.
    Thanks & Regards,
    VROAN

    Anybody else faced this issue?

    Hi,
It seems like that you are using rule to monitor this event, unlike monitors, rules can continue to send alerts as long as the condition that caused the alert persists or repeats. Depending on what the rule is checking for, a single issue could possibly
generate a huge number of alerts. To prevent the noise of too many alerts, alert suppression can be enabled for a rule.
More details, please check article below:

  • Auto close informational alerts generated by rule

    Hi,
Is there a way to configure auto close for specific informational alerts?
There is some information alerts which pops up and due to my environment limitations we are unable to completely prevent it from occurring. The exact details of the alerts i am going to pass as my intend is not to resolve the alert completely but I would
like to find out if there is a way to automatically close them? I do not want to disable the alerts via overrides because I want to keep it there for reporting purpose. I also know there is "Automatic Alert Resolution" settings which
can configure the system to auto resolve all old alerts after 7 days. This is also not what I want.
    Regards,
    Terence

Create a subscription with a criteria that meets the alerts generated by that rule, then configure a 'Command Channel' under that subscription (no notification is required) in order to change the 'Resolution State' to 'close' in for these type
    of alerts.
the following link covers the Command Channel PowerShell that changes the resolution state

  • XCmd Service - SCOM alert - Unpredictable state

    Hey folks,
I keep get a SCOM alert for an unpredictable state for the xcmd service.
    It says:
The xCmd Service service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.
This is only happening on our Server 2008 and 2008 R2 machines.
Been googling around and cant find a fix. Anyone have an idea?

Have you checked the product knowledge of the alert? It gives you the answer you are looking for:
    Summary
This rule generates an alert when the Service Control Manager detects that a service has started with an invalid configuration. It is important to note that even though the Service Control Manager detected an invalid configuration, the service still started
    successfully.
The service may not be running as expected and may behave in an unpredictable manner. Additionally, the service may not be able to be restarted until the issue is resolved.
    Sample Event:
This rule generates an alert whenever any of the following events occur and are recorded in the System Event Log:
The %1 service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.
The Service Control Manager encountered an error that has undone a configuration change to the %1 service. The service's %2 is currently in an unpredictable state. If you do not correct this configuration, you may not be able to restart the %1 service or
you may encounter other errors. To ensure that the service is configured properly, use the Services snap-in in MMC.
    •
Source: Service Control Manager; Event ID: 7030The %1 service is marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly.
    •
Source: Service Control Manager; Event ID: 7037The Service Control Manager encountered an error that has undone a configuration change to the %1 service. The service's %2 is currently in an unpredictable state. If you do not correct this configuration, you
may not be able to restart the %1 service or you may encounter other errors. To ensure that the service is configured properly, use the Services snap-in in MMC.
    Causes
This alert is generated whenever any of the following conditions occur:
    •
The service is configured to run interactively but system policy is configured to prevent services from running in this mode.
    •
An error occurred while attempting to configure the service.
    Resolutions
There are two possible resolutions for this alert. Refer to the event that generated the alert and select the appropriate set of resolution steps.
    Event ID: 7030
To resolve this alert, consult with a subject matter expert or the vendor to determine if the service must run interactively on the desktop. If not, follow these steps:
    •
    Open the Services MMC snap-in.
    •
Double-click the appropriate Service and open that service’s property sheet.
    •
    Click the Log On tab.
    •
Clear the Allow service to interact with desktop check box.
If the service must run interactively, you will need to change the “Allow service to interact with desktop” system policy. To do this, perform the following steps:
    HKLM\System\CCC\Control\Windows
    0 - Enabled
    1 - Disabled
    •
    Open the Registry Editor.
    •
Navigate to the registry value “NoInteractiveServices” at:HKLM\System\CCC\Control\Windows
    •
    Set the value from “0” to “1” 0 - Enabled1 - Disabled
    •
    Open the Services MMC snap-in.
    •
Select the appropriate Service and restart it.
    Event ID: 7037
Resolve this alert by doing the following:
    •
    Open the Services MMC snap-in.
    •
Double-click the appropriate service and open that service’s property sheet.
    •
Click each of the tabs and verify that the configuration information is appropriate. Update any configuration fields that have incorrect or corrupted data in them.
    •
Restart the service and check the event log to determine whether another instance of event 7037 has occurred. If not, the issue has been resolved.
    •
If a new instance of event 7037 occurs, use Sc.exe to examine the service’s advanced configuration settings and then update them as appropriate. Use the
qc and config commands within Sc.exe to view and configure the service.

  • Recovery from a SCOM alert - ORCH or task - best practice?

Hi - wonder if anybody in the "real world" can give me any guidance on this?
I look after SCOM and have traditionally been tasked with creating recovery scripts for certain custom alerts. I am also involved in the ORCH sphere but not totally responsible. We seem to be creating recovery in SCOM still but not ORCH.
I would have thought that the idea would be best to monitor for the SCOM alert in ORCH and use the flexibility of the latter to do checks and do a fix.
Are you limited in ORCH to how many alerts you can monitor or is there reasons to still do in SCOM? Just wondering which way we should really be heading?
    thanks

I would suggest you keep using both. Recovery scripts in scom work just fine for basic recovery procedures that are performed locally on the monitored node. It is a simple, thus quite reliable framework for responding to incidents. However,
if your recovery procedure is complex and involves coordination of multiple activities running on different systems, then Orchestrator will be the right tool to handle it.
    Gleb.

  • Error in File Adapter: no alert generated

    Hi folks,
I have a problem with monitoring our file adapters.
In one scenario we occasionally get the following error:
Fehler bei der Konvertierung des Dateiinhalts in XML an Position 0: java.lang.Exception: ERROR converting document line no. 2 according to structure 'eTSFlatDetailStructure':java.lang.Exception: ERROR in configuration / structure 'eTSFlatDetailStructure.': More elements in file csv structure than field names specified!
So I have build an alert category with me as recipient and an alert rule in Runtime Workbench with the following attributes:
    - Rule active
    - Alert-category as I have created above
    - Bound to Message: no
    - Error occures in Adapter Engine -> File Adapter
I have tested the Category... it works... but the rule does not fire any alert.
Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?

    Can anybody help
    Thanks

After trying many methods. I found this a temporary fix. The solution is to set a rule in Mail Preference to run an Applscripts if there is new email. This Applescript will play a notification sound of your choice:
tell application "Mail" to if (count of (every message of inbox whose read status is false)) isgreater than 0 then do shell script "afplay '/Applications/Mail.app/Contents/Resources/New Mail.aiff'"
You can change the path /Application/Mail.app/Contents/Resources/New Mail.aiff to any folder that containt an aiff file. For example: /System/Library/Sounds/Glass.aiff (in this folder you can find all the alert sounds of Mac OS)
    Applescript Editor
    1. Open Applescript Editor in Applications folder
    2. Paste the script in after choosing your notification sound path
    3. Save in ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.apple.mail (can name it New Mail in my example)
    4. Now you can choose the script in Mail Rules setting
    For the Mail rules setting
Open Mail Preferences then Rules then Add Rule. The setting like photo
