Screen Display Reboot

Hi, can anyone explain the following that I took from the Console Log. What is happening is that basically the screen reboots itself, but it does not reboot the Mac Pro. I am using Mountain Liom 10.8.2. The event will occur sporadically and without any warning.

  • Blank screen after reboot - M30-70

    Hi @ All,
I have received 5 Lenevo M30-70's last week (1st April 2015) - all brand new in the box (with Windows 7 x64 Professional pre-installed as the OS).
I've successfully setup one laptop with all of our standard applications within our domain - this laptop was working fine all day on Thursday and this morning (Monday 7th).
After I was happy that all applications we use on standard laptop builds were installed, I proceeded to connect the laptop to our domain with a personalised computer name (in the standard way, via Computer). This process required a restart.
This is where the issue began; after the reboot, the laptop to the Windows 7 boot screen displayed for a very long time (around 30 minutes) - I knew this was an issue, as previous reboots took around 15-20 seconds at the very most. I then powered down the machine by pressing the power button (until the Power LED notification light went out).
Now when I turn the machine back on, the screen stays completely blank (not even a post screen!). I've tried using an external HDMI monitor, to no avail. I've also tried increasing the brightness with the Fn keys, and also the Fn key to turn your monitor off (F9). I can tell the system is powered on due to the power LED being lit, and also the power button is eluminated.
I've done the usual thing of taking the laptop battery out and booting, but that makes no difference. The only interaction I get with the laptop at this point is a 'BIOS Beep' when I plug the external power adapter into it.
I've called the Lenenvo UK support line who immediately said that it needs a repair.. I just wanted to post this here just incase it's an easy fix, as I'm pretty sure this isn't a hardware issue.
Any ideas? I don't want this issue to happy with the remaining laptops.
Thanks in advance. If there is anything I've missed, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Jake

    Go to Solution.

    Hi JakeBloomfield,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Try, When you remove the battery Remove the ACadapter as well then hold the power button down for 15 sec.
    This should drain the motherboard.
Reconnec the battery and AC but do not turn it on yet, Let it sit there for at least 10 mins. and try.
    If that doesn't work
Check the AC adapter, Check the power Cable,
If the AC adapter comes in two parts (removable power cord) Try replugging it and see if that fixes it.
    Regards
    Solid Cruver

  • Brand new Thinkstation D10 server fails to boot, no beeps or screen display

This server had been working fine for several weeks and today I needed to reboot it. It has been rebooted several times before so so I wasn't trying something new.   I hit the Vista Start button and it immediately shut down.  I couldn't recall if Vista prompts you to Stand-by/restart/shutdown but I think it does - this time it didn't. :/   Afterwards, it would not boot.
    I tried:
Unplugging and replugging it in: it then attempted to boot but shut itself down again after about 30s.
    a Power Supply Reset
    Reseating the memory cards
Removing one of the 4GB memory cards
    Trying the other memory card
    Swapping the two memory cards
Inserting a bootable disk (it never gets to the point of reading anything although the drive spins up)
Checking that everything in the system board was plugged in
Making sure none of the wires were hitting anything else (shorting out)
When replacing that annoying cover from over the memory cards, made sure again I was not pinching any wires
The server does not beep and the (directly connected) monitor never comes alive to display anything when I attempt to reboot.
Per the docs, I observed the power supply Diagnostic LEDs and front panel Power LED while attempting to boot and only the green Diagnostic LED on the power supply is ever activated.  The table indicated this means replace the system board.
    Aack!
Before I head for the support # and an eventual shipment back to Lenovo, would it be worth my while to try and replace the CMOS battery?  Or would a failure of that battery still have resulted in some indication of the problem (beeping and/or screen display)?  Can anyone think of something else to check?
Just thought I'd ask around before assuming that I'm stuck with the system board diagnosis).
    Thanks

The list of things that will make a computer power down on it's own before it can ever get into the OS or initiate a video feed is a short list.
A CPU thermal trip usually occurs within 30 seconds.  This can be cause by a loose or improperly seated heat sink or a failure in the thermal grease coverage.  If your D10 arrived with one CPU and you recently installed a second CPU, try taking the second CPU out.  Should this work, verify the second CPU is the exact match to the first CPU and that the thermal grease is properly applied to the heat sink and the heat sink is securely mounted.
Ambient temperature thermal trip usually takes longer, but can be significantly shorten if the air baffle for the memory is not installed.  Computers with high Front Side Bus frequencies result in memory DIMMS that get very hot.
DC power trip.  This can happen if too much power is being drawn through any of the PCI ports or through the power supply itself.
When you are using a highend video card, check to see if the video card has it's own power connector(a small six lead box).  If it does, there is a power connector, from the power supply, to plug into it.  Without that power plugged in, the video card may appear to hum, and the it will draw too much power through the PCI slot.
Should you have added any additional PCI adapters, try removing these for a test. If that works, add one card back in at a time to isolate the offending PCI card.
Disconnect any USB or Firewire devices you may have attached, including the mouse and keyboard.  If it comes back up and you have video, power down and reconnect the keyboard and mouse only and try again.
If you have the memory card reader option and kids, check to make certain no one has inserted something into the memory card readers.  My kid inserted a quarter into one of the slots on my reader.  My workstation powered down pretty fast.   Consider moving the workstation to higher ground.
Last by not least, disconnect any additional optical drives you may have added.  Some SATA devices have both the standard PC power connector and the SATA power connector.  Do not connect both of these power sources to the same drive.  The drive will be damaged and your computer will not stay powered on for very long.
Should this all fail to resolve the issue, contact Lenovo support.  To make your support experience faster and more pleasurable, send them this list of things you tried.  If this list of possible fixes fails, it's probably a power supply or system board issue, and I would start with the power supply.
If an electronic device has a defect it will fail within the first 90 days.  Once you get it past the first 90 days, it is generally good for years.
    I hope this helps!!!

  • Zen Micro - Screen Displays "Firmware Probl

As an FYI for those with this issue.
Updated to the new beta firmware upon getting my Zen Micro. After having issues with Napster 2 Go, I got the service transferring the files to the Zen Micro. Listened to the files at night until I got the "Low Battery" message. Plugged it up to charge. Once fully charged, listend from about p til about 7p. The 5 minutes inactivity timer cut off the Zen Micro. Went to turn on the Zen Micro only to have the screen display, "Firmware Problem". I have rebooted, entered rescue mode and did a clean up and reboot, same error. I reloaded the firware to get back into the Zen Micro.

    Meantone,
It would be worth trying a firmware upgrade, if you can, but it sounds like there might be a problem with the player.
I would advise you contact Customer Support directly for assistance.

  • Maverick, screen display on macbook pro corrupts

I installed Mavericks yesterday. I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch with a display 1680x1050. Since the install I have had problems with the screen display corrupting with sections of the screen covered in linear 'noise'. I rebooted the first time it happened with success. But it just happened again when an update notice flashed onscreen. I use approx 10 screens for separate software functions and it is interesting that while the noise always appears on the screen I am using it does not appear on all of the other screens.
    Any ideas anyone, please?

Considering that the distortion changes with display rotation angle, it is probably the cable and not the board.

  • When I turn on my macbook pro, the white screen displays a file with a question mark in the middle. What does this mean?

Suddenly, my macbook pro has experienced problems. When I turn on my computer, the white screen displays a flashing file folder icon with a quesrion mark in the middle. Has my hard drive burnt out? Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions..

It means your computer is search for a start up volume.  You need to reboot into recovery mode and attempt to repair your disk.  To do this restart the computer and hold the keys:
    <command> + r
    Then open Disk utility.

  • My iphone 5 is stuck on a screen displaying the itunes symbol and a charging cable. I tried connecting it to itunes and it won't recognize it or anything. what can i do?

my iphone 5 is stuck on a screen displaying the itunes symbol and a charging cable. I tried connecting it to itunes and it won't recognize it or anything. what can i do?

Turn it off by holding home+ power button untill the screen goes black ( as soon as it goes black, release the buttons).. This might take some practice , so dont worry if on the first try your phone reboots and goes to itunes screen again.
Now, with your phone powered off, enter DFU mode:
    Method 1)
Attach the phone to the pc
    Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
Whilist in dfu mode, itunes will recognize the device and it will ask you if you wish to restore it. Simply click restore, and the restoring proces will begin.
This will hopefully fix your iphone.
    Cheers

Why do i need to restart my imac everyday like ten times to get it to work, also the screen displays little digital squares.

    Hi Matt,
I purchased my imac in November of 2010 and below is a cut and past from Hardware overview. It has 1 TB hardrive, with 670 GB free. When i start up in the morning, it boots normal then freezes. Half the time i can get it to restart before it freezes, other half i have to power down then restart. At the same time throughout this process the little pixel squares show up sometimes in a single line or two aross the screen, then sometimes more random. After about 7 times of rebooting, everything runs fine for the day with no weird pixels. then i shut down at night, and start the porcess over in the morning. Thanks for your help!

  • [X230] Missing on-screen display in W7

Hello, I have foolishly uninstalled "On Screen Display" from Programs & Features, thinking it was some kind of junk/malware stuff.   This caused me to lose the brightness/volume on-screen display.  Duh! I tried to follow earlier instructions on how to bring it back... I installed Lenovo Power Management which brought the "On Screen Display" application back, or at least it is showing under Programs & Features again, but after rebooting, I still don't have on-screen display when pressing volume or brightness keys. What else can I do to bring it back? This is under W7 Home 64-bit. Thanks!

    Solution is here.
    To summarize what he did:
    1. Install all available drivers for your ThinkPad X201 using support.lenovo.com or ThinkVantage System Update
    2. Re(install) the fingerprint reader driver
    3. After the fingerprint reader driver is installed, reinstall Hotkey Features Integration.

  • Screen Display going black on start.

My Macbook(2008) screen goes black as it starts, i can hear it is still on but screen is off. If I reboot from power botton screen displays again for  few seconds and goes blank. Can some one tell me what is this and what i should do for this.Thanks.

Could you provide some essential information firstly?
It would be useful to know what notebook model and what system do you have exactly.
Did you check the notebook in connection with external monitor?
If not do that. It would be interesting to know if something would be visible on 2nd screen while internal screen is black.

I formatted my entire HDD and re-installed windows 7 pro. After doing the format and re-install the on screen display doesn't show up when I adjust volume or enable/disable caps lock like it did previously before I re-installed. I've installed the hotkey driver, on screen display, display interface driver, ran the Lenovo update utility several times, installed all windows updates. Is there somewhere where I have to enable OSD (on screen display)? I am sure this is just something small that I am overlooking but if anyone has any help please let me know! sorry if this has been posted already, I tried searching before making a post but didn't have any luck.

    <E-mail Edited by Host>

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.
