  • M6-1205DX: Black screen, then white, then stripes?

Afternoon!  I'm going to try to make this as simple of an explanation as possible, but it is kind of weird to explain.
Before I begin, I own an HP Envy m6 notebook-- Model number is M6-1205DX currently (unfortunately) running Windows 8.
This morning, I went to open my laptop, and found the top third of the screen was black, and the entire display seemed to shift down.  I was able to log in and reach my desktop, but the entire system froze shortly thereafter, forcing me into a hard reset.
The HP load screen appeared, but so did the black portion.  The display became grainy and started to fade white until it suddenly went black, beeped once, and reappeared.  It faded completely to white, but then began to fade into vertical lines (which eventually become all that can be seen).
I have tried to simply take the battery out for an extended period of time, but that (obviously) has not helped in the least.  I have babied this laptop, so I know for a fact that this is not anything I have done, and I've tried Googling my issue, but to no avail.  I also tried to explain my situation to a Geek Squad rep online, but he said I would have to physically bring it into a location (which is my intention after work, but that's a good five hours from now).
Does anyone have an idea of what the heck is going on?
TL;DR - Laptop screen went partially black, then white, then all black, then all white, then liney:  How boned am I?

    Hello eelsy,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your screen has acquired sentient thought and seeks to personally destroy your ability to work. My best guess is the display is attempting to hide its devious plan to take over the world. Be careful. Trust no one. Skynet is watching.
Our first line of defense is to see if the hardware or software is the issue. Does the BIOS screen flash normally and then the display issue happens after? Or does the BIOS screen present the same issue?
If the BIOS screen flashes normally try booting into safe mode: Entering Safe Mode from outside Windows 8. Once in safe mode, try updating the drivers for your graphics card. You can find the driver downloads here: AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver.
If updating the drivers does not resolve the issue, hide. It's too late and the takeover is imminent. (Kidding)
Try checking the display cable connection. It may have come loose over time from opening and closing the display. You can find the steps here in our Maintenance and Service Guide. Getting access to the display starts on page 90 of this document.
    Good luck, and be safe.

  • IPhone screen flashing white/black/blue

I have a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus, the phone is running the most recent version of iOS 8.
I didn't drop the phone, get it wet or anything. All of sudden the screen started flashing black and white, and blue. I can still send receive texts, calls etc, sound is working fine. I just can't interact with the screen because it's flashing colors. It is very similar to the problem experienced by the user in this thread: iphone 6 plus screen flashing white and black
I've already rebooted the device and tried plugging it into a computer (it wont recognize the phone because I've never plugged it into the computer before).
I'm on vacation, at a wedding and I don't have access to an Apple Store. Is there ANYTHING I can do to get my phone to working order?

Thanks for that info. I restore the phone without any data In the end (as a new device). In order to make the problem go away I had to:
    1. enter DFU
    2. Update device
    3. Restore device
    4. Setup as a new device
It didn't work without completing all 4 of the steps. after setting it up as a new device it still flickered a bunch and the color were funny. Especially when looking at high definition photos. It was like it was threatening to start flashing black and white again. I turned the phone off for a while and then when I turned it back on it was fine. It's been fine since then. well see what hapPens.

  • Frozen with grey and black stripes

While working on my 2011 imac today, the screen suddenly changed to be covered by grey and black striped and froze.  I eventually turned the computer off by holding down the power button. It turned back on and seems to be working fine.  Flash was crashing a bunch earlier in the day and I seemed to be having trouble uploading a ppt presentation, but otherwise everything was working fine.
I want to figure out what's going on. Ideas?

Look as if you're having a GPU glitch. If I were you, I'd take the computer into your local Apple Store and run extensive diagnostics on it. You can do a basic hardware check yourself, using the Apple Hardware Test.
    Good luck,

  • When turned on all I get is a white screen with a black strip...

I just bought a Macbook on 3 days ago and it was taken out of the box that night. I used it the next day and put it on my dresser until just now when I went to use it again. Any ideas?

  • Imac screen grey with vertical stripes

    hi,
i have an imac 24' late 2009 silver, and sometimes the screen suddenly "switches off" and shows a grey screen with thin vertical lines about 1cm apart.  this happened twice this month now, usually when the mac was switched on for a few hours. What can it be ? is the screen broken ? Should i reinstall everything ?

You should run some diagnostics to see if you have a hardware issue first. Where I'd start is running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode. It isn't the best test available for testing hardware however it does uncover some problems. If you get an error code you can post it here or Google it to get a clue what it means.
You can also do some basics such as restarting in Safe Mode and doing a SMC and PRAM reset however I don't think those will help from the way you are describing the problem. Resetting both the SMC and PRAM is simple though and it can't hurt.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

While in the B/W desktop go to the System/Accessability preference pane and check to see if this checkbox is selected:
If it isn't toggle it on and then off again and see if there's any change.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone 4, Display is broken, white, black, grey lines

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!
My problem is very hard to understand, basically, I cannot use my iPhone. The screen is 'wobbling', it is 'flashing', has turned white, grey and black! Help!
A few weeks ago I did crack the screen, I haven't fixed it yet because its not all over the screen, only at the bottom. I've had no issues until yesterday morning. First, the internet page I was on started to wobble, then the display itself completely changed. The actual iPhone is ok, I have been able to access it on iTunes, for example to sync it and restore, although I can't use the iphone. I have no idea what to do. I have tried resetting and restoring.
What can I do? I guess I am going to have to go to a shop tomorrow to sort it out, can it be saved?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Look for a 3rd party repair shop that can fix it in your area. It wouldn't be covered by warranty anyway.

  • Black screen with white writing on boot - then nothing...

    Ok, this is a long story, but here's the abridged version;
I have a mac mini - the old PPC version. It has just come back from being repaired - replacement logic board. However, repaired it is not. Every time i try to start it up, I get a brief white screen with grey apple logo as normal, and then a black screen with white writing on. The writing is exactly the same text as you can see in the console system log. It gets about a page-full through this, and then goes completely black. No video at all.
However, the machine is still working in there - I know this because I'm typing on it now via VNC. It is perfectly happy and all. It just does this weirdness start up and then no video.
    My question is twofold:
    1. The company that repaired it claims that it booted fine before they gave it back to me; however, it hasn't since I've had it back. Could the boot behaviour be some kind of diagnostic thing they left on my machine, or a mode they left it in. If so, how do I get rid of it?
    2. Failing this, does it sound like my vidoe card packed up maybe?
    Thoughts, solutions, etc., most welcome!

    Have you
tried to simply do a clean install of Mac OS X and
your other software? I normally find that this fixes
90%+ of all unexplained software related issues.
I could, but (a) I'm not convinced it's not related to the replacement logic board and thus a hardware issue, and (b) I can't see to do a clean install because it has no video signal

  • My screen is flashing grey and black.

My screen is flashing black and white. I have tried a soft reset and that didn't fix it.

    Anne,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Are you now able to get past the grey screen?

Do you have a B&W adjustment layer above the Type layer?
If you are not sure, it would help if you upload a screen grab of your entire workspace with the Layers and History panels visible.  Keep it at full resolution please.
