Screen Resolution In Games!

Hi there,
I have an MSI GeForce FX5700LE 256mb.  Everything works fine, however, when I try to change the resolution in a game the screen does not change.  For instance, in Soldier of Fortune II I have the resolution set to 1152x864.  When I start the game the initial screen (black with "loading...") comes up in the said res, but when it goes to the next loading screen it jumps to the 800x600 resolution.  I can minimize the game and it will be the resolution I set in the game on my desktop.  So the setting is in affect, but the game is not playing in that res.
I also tested this on StarWars Battlefront this morning and the same thing.  I changed the resolution from 1024x768 to 1152x864 and nothing changed.  I restarted the game, the setting still says 1152x864, but the res of the game stayed the same as before changing.
Is this a problem with the card or a setting I am missing?  My desktop is set to 1152x864 and runs perfectly.  The games run fine in the lower resolution, however, my card should support higher res in game.
Some Spec:
WinXP Pro SP1
DirectX 9.0c
ViewSonic VP2000s
P4 3.0GHz
1g pc2100
MSI PT880 Neo-SR
I have the latest NVIDIA and ViewSonic drivers installed.  I hope this is enough info.  Thanks in advance for your help!
-Mapex

Thank you for the reply...
I have the latest NVIDIA drivers:  ver. 66.93...downloaded and installed a few days ago.
I have had this issue since I put together this pc 6 months ago.  Since the games run in the other resolution, I figured it was no big deal.  However, I then thought better to find out the problem now before the warranty is gone on the graphics card.
Thanks again for your help!

• Satellite A - Wrong screen resolution in games

Hi,
I change the operation system from Windows Vista home to Windows 7 64bit , and I download the Windows driver but when I playing games it appear at 1024*768 pixel and my laptop have 1366*768 pixel.
If any body have a solution to this problem please help

Hello
Unfortunately I think you must offer more details about your problem like exact notebook model number and all games that you play.
Important point is that the game must support the native screen resolution of your monitor, otherwise you are not able to use 1366*768 pixel. You should check this firstly!
Furthermore make sure that newest display driver from Toshiba is installed and update your DirectX version.

• How to fix screen resolutions for games

I play on Pogo.com and recently noticed that my screen is split when playing games. There is too much space between the game and chat area. If I enlarge it to max, it doesn't take all the picture I need on the left side on some games, but always either small or larger screen there's a 2" space that should not be there. Can you please help?

• My screen resolution becomes small when I play any game

Hi,
I own a Toshiba Satellite M30X-113 with a atim mobility radeon 9700 graphics card. Lately, when I have been playing games, the screen resolution has shrunk ,and its become small. I try changing it from the menu (video options) but its still has no effect. I then used windows display mode to change, but that too had no effect. I used to use 32-bit setting on 1024x768, but it also keeps jumping back to 1280 resolution. Why is this happening? Is there any way to change it back to the way it was.

Hi
I agree with audigex. The games internal resolution has nothing to do with the computer display resolution. Usually you can change the resolution in the game settings.
I cant give you a proper answer why it has changed but Im sure the game settings are responsible for this issue.

• [SOLVED] Extra resolutions for games with Nvidia drivers

When using the nouveau drivers, games and other such applications will allow me to select any resolution my screens (one 1920x1080, the other 1680x1050-- the latter of which is to the left of the first) will support, as well as 3600x1080, the combined total (spanning both screens). For instance, I can make something like Tux Racer 1280x800, and either windowed or fullscreen. However, with the Nvidia proprietary drivers, the only resolutions that I can select are 1920x1080, 1680x1050, and 3600x1080. This prevents me from playing windowed games in such a way that they don't cover my whole screen, or playing fullscreen games at lower resolutions for higher performance. How can I use the Nvidia drivers and the "extra" resolutions? (Ideally, all those listed in the Xinerama output below)

Thanks. The first link worked, in the sense that my games now have all those resolution options, but now there's a new bug.
To future readers: a solution has been found for this bug as well, see below.
My metamodes setting now reads:
Option "metamodes" "CRT-0: nvidia-auto-select, CRT-1: nvidia-auto-select; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortI n=1920x1080}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1680x1050}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1600x1200}; nvidia-auto-sele ct {ViewPortIn=1440x900}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1400x1050}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x1024}; nvi dia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x960}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x800}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=115 2x864}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1024x768}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=832x624}; nvidia-auto-select {View PortIn=800x600}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=700x525}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=640x480}; nvidia-auto-sele ct {ViewPortIn=512x384}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=400x300}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=320x240}
Because I now have included a resolution whose height is 1200 (or so I suppose-- if I remove that part, the issue does not occur), this happens:
Xrandr output:
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3600 x 1200, maximum 16384 x 16384
My X screen has the right length, but the wrong height! Now, my desktop seems to span the right area (3600x1080), but if I move my mouse to the bottom of that area, it pans down another 120 pixels. In that area, there's just graphical gibberish, often whatever I had on the screen last time.
If I use Xrandr to set my screens' output, it works again, butthere a solution within the Nvidia driver settings...
EDIT: It occurs to me that the setting seems to be taking the largest possible resolution for the X screen based on those metamodes.
EDIT 2: This is likely intended behavior. The proper virtual resolution (X screen resolution) may be restored by adding
Virtual 3600 1080
to the "Display" subsection under the "Screen" section.
I'll mark this as solved.
Here's my working xorg.conf, by the way. I've posted only the "Screen" section because that's all I've changed. The rest is in my first post.
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
Option "Stereo" "0"
Option "nvidiaXineramaInfoOrder" "CRT-0"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "CRT-1 LeftOf CRT-0"
Option "metamodes" "CRT-0: nvidia-auto-select, CRT-1: nvidia-auto-select; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1920x1080}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1680x1050}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1600x1200}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1440x900}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1400x1050}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x1024}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x960}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x800}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1152x864}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1024x768}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=832x624}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=800x600}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=700x525}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=640x480}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=512x384}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=400x300}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=320x240}"

• Can't start MAIL or STORE because of "too low screen resolution"

I can't start either mail app or store app because of "too low screen resolution".
My netbook (eMachines eM350) has maximum 1024x600, these app require at least 1024x768

I have developed a lot of code, and while more recent machines have higher resolutions, I find it prudent not to assume everyone has an 8K panel
No one cares much what you have or have not done, this thread is not about you. If you'd actually developed any Modern apps you'd know that the minimum resolution for them is, as has been stated numerous times here already. Stating that you develop for 640x480
displays clearly indicates that you've never developed a Modern app. Additionally, it should be obvious even to you that a minimum resolution of 1024x768 does not assume that everyone has "an 8K panel".
go write some shaders you clearly have no idea whatsoever about development

• Screen Resolution Issues

Hi,
I am working with a developer on an application in air and we are having trouble adjusting the screen resolution to meet the various computers that will be running the app.
On my computer  with resolution of 1440 x 900 the app looks great but as soon as we install it on another computer with moderately weaker resolution, much of the program is cut off.
Is there a way have the applicaiton adjust to different screen resolutions automatically? Or is there something we can write into the code that would not require countless hours of labor?
Or can you make a recomendation as to the resolution we should be focusing on?
Thanks!

Design your app with the minimum screen res your audience would be using (i.e. if you plan on making your app for your gamer friends, assume theyll be on a higher resolution, your grandmother is probably a lower res). 1024x768 is the safest bet.
use
stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
instead of trying to force a specific size.

• Civ3 not on full screen resolution

Hello here,
not too sure if this is the right place to ask, but I dont seem to find a solution o my problem.
When trying to play Civ3 1.21g on my MB Pro with 1440x900, the game does not use all of the available screen resolution - how can I change this to play on full screen?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Lorenz

That is strange. I'd first try resetting the PRAM (Hold option-command-P-R keys down during startup until you hear the chime at least three times). A PRAM reset often fixes little startup bugs.
Although irrelevant to the issue, also repair permissions (never a bad idea) with disk utility. Onyx is also great for this and other maintenance tasks.

• How can I set the screen resolution ?

hello brothers.
my program works ultimately at 1024/768 screen resolution.
since I want to make sure that peaple who using that program will see it correct, I want to explicitly change the resolution of the screen.
how can I do that? please..

I believe you use the setDisplayMode() method of the GraphicsDevice object to do this.
If you go to http://www.scottshaver2000.com/ and download the source code to H.E.A.T., you will find a nice example of video mode switching. His game pops up a window showing the available configurations, then lets you select the one you want and switch to it.
The applicable classes are in his com.sas.gui package: FullScreenJFrame.java and VideoModeSelector.java.

• [SOLVED] Low resolution on game exit

I was doing some research, but was not able to find an acceptable solution.
When I exit a game my resolution will go to 800x600 every time.
(My resolution is 1366x768)
I'm pretty sure that I can do something like "when you exit a game/full-screen mode app, restart X to 1366x768".
Should be fairly easy to do, but I don't know exactly where and what to add/edit, so I would be very thankful for any kind of help.

HA! Beat me to it
xrandr -s 1366x768
If it is a persistent problem you could wrap the offending binary in a script to auto fire the screen resolution reset on exit
Consider it as home work

• Screen resolution changed

When I woke my Macbook Pro up, the screen resolution had changed to 800x600. I restarted it and it remained the larger resolution. I had t manually reset it. Why would this happen?

PRAM reset (and SMC reset) can resolve some issues. Personally, I've never needed to do either.
Was the resolution actually set to 800x600 in the Displays preference pane? It might be that an application altered the resolution (some do) and failed to reset it at quit (some freeware games do this). If Displays is set correctly and the resolution still looks wrong, that is most likely due to activation of the Zoom feature (System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing tab).

• Lower screen resolution on 6280?

I'm noticing that a lot of applications and games are designed for a low resolution screen. My 6280 has high resolution, so that apps take up only the upper left hand corner of the screen. Too tiny to read, really. Is there a way lower my screen resolution? Or is it that these games have to be resolution-aware? Thanks for any advice.

Hello.
You have no choice for this matter, I guess, and you must succumb playing your low-res games in this manner. As manta have said, there are programmers who are pretty adept at changing the resolution covered by the application depending on the screen's native resolution.
Cheers.
