Screen Resolution is "Out of Scan Range" -- Need Help Re-Setting

My daughter accidentally set her screen resolution on her Mac Mini too high for the Sony monitor we have attached. The screen went blank and then flashed "Out of Scan Range", at which time she then confirmed the higher setting by hitting "return". So now we're stuck - a totally blank screen.
I tried booting in Safe Mode and found that the screen was once again properly set to 1024 x 768, so I thought we had this solved. But when re-starting in regular mode, the screen went blank again ... its as if safe mode is not "saving" the reverted screen size for regular boot mode. My last test was to try to boot from the CD installer, but the only option is to re-install the OS from scratch, something I'd really like NOT to do.
Any other ideas on how to restore the screen settings?

Out of scan range when hooked to ethernet?!

Okay, this one has me totally stumped and I can't find anything similar. I just gave my dad an old B&W G3 (that I had been using for the past year) and he had a cable modem installed over the weekend. The ethernet cable from the modem plugs directly into the built-in jack on the back of the Mac. He says that whenever he restarts with the ethernet cord plugged in, his 17" monitor gives him an out of scan range message. If he unplugs the jack and restarts, his original resolution comes back and everything is fine. For the life of me, I can't figure out what one has to do with the other. Got any ideas? This never happened while I was using it with my DSL...

Start up the computer without the Ethernet jack plugged in and then search the entire hard disk for files which have a name containing com.apple.windowserver. If any files which match this criteria have a series of numbers after windowserver, note down their location and move them to the desktop. A plist file with name containing a series of numbers is only consulted when the computer's MAC address matches those numbers; if no Ethernet cable is plugged in, the computer may be ignoring the file which causes your issue.

[SOLVED] extremetux racer out of scan range

Hi All,
This has happened with other games as well and on other distros, but I've never been able to cure it. I have a GeForce 6200 with an 22" NEC monitor running @ 1680x1050 nvidia driver 295.20. Start extremetuxracer="out of scan range", I assume that it doesn't like the resolution but I can't find a config file to tweak. This also happens on some other games. My 6 year old boy REALLY wants to play extremetuxracer so if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

First let's find out how to start it by listing the installed files for the "extremetuxracer" package.
# pacman -Ql extremetuxracer
Actually... let's filter it by anything "bin" so that we don't have to scroll up like a mad hyena:
# pacman -Ql extremetuxracer | grep bin
extremetuxracer /usr/bin/
extremetuxracer /usr/bin/etracer
Good. Now let's have a look in our user dir. Oh, whaddya know, there's an ".etracer" folder in there. With an "options" file inside... Now isn't that convenient? You can either delete this file and it will revert to the 800x600 default, or you can edit it. Your choice.

[SOLVED] Xorg 'Out of Scan Range, Change Timing Signal'

Hi, all!
I'm just doing a fresh install and having done my first reboot, I am trying desperately to configure X, before installing xfce.
I have an ATI Radeon card and a Sun-GDM5410 21" CRT monitor. Unfortunately, when I do 'startx', I get a message on my monitor saying
'Out of scan range...change timing signal'
I've tried created custom Xorg files instead of letting Xorg work it out, itself. This didn't solve the problem. So as not to further confuse myself, I have rm'd these files and have let X manage itself, again.
I've read and re-read the Xorg and ATI wiki guides, and Google'd around, but I can't get around this.
Any help really appreciated.

I did. I think it may be something to do with module that are loaded, possibly kms?

If the iPod was Disabled, place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.

Also: When you create a server setup and want to allow other users to join your server, you need make sure the following ports are open for outgoing and incoming traffic in your firewall: 1716 (UDP), 1717 (UDP), 20025-20045 (TCP), and 20047 (TCP). Failure to open these ports will prevent the server from accepting connections from other players or prevent other players from being able to see your server online.
There are several settings that also need to be defined in your server configuration INI file (in the Windows version, these files are located in “My Documents\America’s Army Server Settings\{settings file name}.ini”).

Your images are not stored in the catalog. They are stored in folders on your computer. If you imported images that were already on your computer using the "Add" Option they are still in that same folder. If you imported images from your camera then they are in the folders that you specified when you imported. The catalog points to those images wherever they are located, and records all of the adjustments that you make to the image. When you send an image to Photoshop for further editing and save that image in Photoshop, it is normally saved back in the same folder as the original image.
Images are not "saved" in Lightroom. The basic default workflow in Lightroom is to store all of the adjustments in the catalog, leaving the original image completely unmodified. The catalog becomes the central controlling mechanism. It is a database that contains pointers to where the images are located and a record of all adjustments made to those images using Lightroom. Properly managed, you only have those original master files and secondary files for the ones that you have sent to Photoshop for further adjustment. When you want to provide a copy for someone else, you use the export dialogue for that purpose. I often export JPEG images to share with others or to post on the web. After I have usedthe JPEG for its intended purpose I delete it.

I need help in setting up a wireless connection.
I have a 2005 iMac G5 and currently I am using a Qwest DSL Modem with a Belkin router.
Qwest suggested that I buy a new wireless modem/router. It may be the Motorola 3347 or another wireless modem. I am worried about security when on the internet and have read about changing the SSID password and use the WPA for encryption. All of this is a mystery to me.
Also, I would like to buy from Directv the Linksys wireless adapter to use on my HD-DVR receiver to get their “On Demand Movies.”
My question is, does my iMac G5 have all of the security I need to use a wireless modem, and with the Linksys adapter can I view my photos or DVD’s in iMovie wirelessly to my TV in the living room?
I am concerned about security with a wireless setup, but it seems that all of the new TV’s have the ability to have a wireless connection to the internet.
Any suggestions would help me.

... Anyway, iPads don't have printers directly set up. You might interface with a printer over a WiFi. That could be done either using Apple's AirPrint (if the printer is new enough) or maybe you have Epson's iPrint utility.
If you have the iPrint utility, you simply open the utility, click the "maintenance" button in the lower left, and select the "Printer" on the top and set it up there.

you can't. the extreme is only a router. you need a separate modem (or disable the wireless part of your old router and use it as a modem - if that's possible).

Out Of Scan Range on Sony CPD E400

hey all i was chaging the resolution yesturday on the main screen and i told to go to 1920X1200 and thats when i got the out fo scan message from teh moniter. i did a force shut down since i couldnt see what i was doing and i thought it wasnt going to remember the screen size. WRONG. now i have to start up from my ATI card and after startup switch back to the Nvida card and im back to normal. its normal size that i like it at is 1152X870. it works great. but for some reason i didnt get the comfirmation 15 second delay thing. HELP!!! im stumped!

Since that is a CRT monitor, if it has separate power and video cables, you can try resetting the PRAM in the monitor itself. To do this, power everything down, disconnect the video cable from the Mac. Then turn the monitor on, wait 15 to 20 seconds, then turn it off; wait about 10 seconds, then repeat the cycle, 3 or 4 times. Then reconnect the video cable and boot back up.

You need to return it to the seller and get your money back. You cannot reset or use the device with another AppleID installed unless you know the password for that ID.

Newest OS. Never happened with old OS! Cycling phone on/off does not help. Ignoring message causes phone to cycle off then on. After first time this happened, I restored. I have not tried that...I will look up the process so that I can do it correctly (and still transfer all of my files, contacts, etc). Any suggestions? What is the advantage of restoring as a new device..is this more akin to a complete wipe of a hard drive?
