Script needed to detect the Ora-03113

Hello All,
We are facing strange problem in our customer testbed.
Oracle sporadically stop working with ora-03113 "End of communication channel".
To prevent the problem we have to restart the machine.
Is it possible to schedule a scripts which will detect the ora-03113 and restart the Oracle service. So that we don't have huge downtime during night when nobody is monitoring the machine.
Note: Oracle version 9i in windows 32 bit. The problem recovered automatically within 30 min (approx) if machine is not rebooted.
Thanks
With Regards
Hemant.

Oracle Enterprise Manager (comes free with Oracle) can monitor the alert, generate an event, and run a fixit script to reboot the database.
It only requires some installation and some reading, but no homegrown scripts are required.

• Only in my PC I get the ORA-03113 ERROR..

Hi
I have tried to run a simple QUERY (SELECT * FROM marcas;) but if the table has more than 2,000 records I get the error ORA-03113, but if I run the same query in other PC I don't have problems. If the table has less than 2,000 I don't have problems in my PC.
I have SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0
Why?...I need help!!!!! thanks!!!

Hi,
could be a network problem. Check your Oracle Client installation using others tools like tnsping. Sometime firewalls or similar can interrupt a connection. Check also your pc with applications that use a persistent connection like a long file transfert.
Hope this helps

• Is it possible to make flash detect the location of the mouse and....

Hello
I'm looking for a script in AS2 that can detect the location of the mouse and when you leave the zone it trigger an action. This script need to detect the location of the mouse without interference of any other object inside the zone ( that include button ) and without "blocking" those object because of the invisible zone that could be on top of it.
I know the trick about the invisible button where you detect the mouseover with it, when you place it under all your stuff ( so that your mouse can navigate in peace ).
The main probleme will be that tee flash will be smaller than the viewscreen so it need to detect imediatly and at any speed the mouse leaving it's location. So the button trick is a no-go because too slow. Also because the website will need to auto-adapt to your viewscreen.
I need to be able to set the X and Y position of the mouse and i don't know.. does it require to put in the script the boundary location of the zone itself ? left top bottom right side ?
Right now i have a flash of 2000 px large and it is centering itself perfectly, But however, i get a horizontal scrolling bar that i want to get rid off. I am exploring all possible solution.
Dreamweaver forum link : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/613249?tstart=0 about my probleme with more detail. I am considering resizing the flash ( and having to move everything inside it for that... ) down from 2000 to 950px large, So when the user leave the zone inside the flash in a quick move the script need to detect before it leave the flash zone. I know that AS3 so it, but i have no time nor ressource to translate to AS3 the whole flash.
Thanks !

Probleme solved without having to change anything in the flash.
The solution was to add a small part in the CSS in HTML
html {
overflow-x: hidden;
overflow-y: auto;
Solve probleme. All browser. VERY usefull to know !

• "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel" when a merge is called

We have two tables, one for the input of data and the other a production version that means the data has been approved. When the user approves the data, we use the merge command to update and insert the approved data into the production table. This worked great until now. We added a domain index to the production table. Since then, when I use the merge command, I get the ORA-03113 error. We are using Oracle 11g, but I thought that you could use merge with domain indexes in 11g. The merge does not affect the actual index column. It only affects certain columns so we do the update/insert just on those. Any idea? Do I need to do away with the merge for this table or is there another issue?
Thank you,
Susan

Hi,
Did you check if there is an error in the alert log? Can you post the error if exist?
What is the 11g version?
There are some bugs fixed in 11.1.0.7
Domain Indexes
5891213      ORA-6502 / LPX-7 from DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL with domain index present
5908945      Dump [qxopqdca] with ancilliary operator
6051635      Wrong DDL from DBMS_METADATA for domain index or index on XMLType column
6497310      ORA-942 / dump for DML in XMLTYPE column with domain index
6685261      Dump [lnxmin] using ancilliary operators with inline views
So either see if you can patch or test to replace merge with insert/update or drop the index?
Regards,

• Ora 03113 end of file of communication channel leads to coredump using svrmgrl

hi,
I have a similar problem. I installed Redhat linux version7 and tried to install oracle 816 but while connecting to SVRMGRL> it gives an ora-03113 end-of-file of communication channel. There is no database in the system. The dbassist also fails with the same error. I tried reinstalling for five times with different options but in vain. I analyzed the core using file core and strings core|head -10 it gave the following
Core:ELF 32-bit LSB core file of 'oracle'(signal 6) Intel 80386, version1
for strings command
Core
tl@#

oracle
oracleoracle(Description=(local=yes)(address=(protocol=beq)))
core
oracle
rminal
ffffff
n?sh
Whenever i try svrmgrl it raises the ora-03113 error and creates a oracle<defunct> process. I tried relinking the oracle executables. I also tried chaning various options with listener and tnsnames. But in vain. Could any one please help me on this problem.
Thanks in Advance,
Hari

JOIN following errors accurs:
(ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel) and oracle gets disconnect.
This is not an error, but a symptom of an error. An ORA-03113 results when the Oracle Server Process that services your client, terminates abnormally. When that server process terminates, the connection (TCP socket) to your client is torn down - without your client knowing about it.
The ORA-03113 is generated by your client's Oracle driver when your client suddenly discovers that the connection to the Oracle Server Process is no longer there.
So why does the Server Process terminate abnormally? Usually due to an internal error (an ORA-600 and/or an ORA-7445).
These errors results in:
- error messages to be generated in the Oracle instance's alert log
- a trace file generated by the server process that includes stack and memory dumps
You need to determine what these errors are, and the use the ORA-600/ORA-7445 Troubleshooter (Metalink Note 153788.1) on Metalink to troubleshoot the error, determine whether it is a bug, if there is a patch or a workaround available, etc.

• Oracle 8.1.5, ORA-03113: end-of-file on communicat

My Environment:
====================
Unix Solaris 7
jre 1.1.6; using native threads (sparc)
Oracle 8i 8.1.5
Netscape Enterprise Server 3.6
Servlet Exec 2.0.2 plugin for NE Server
LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set to include oracle libraries.
CLASSPATH is set to include oracle classes111.zip
and nls_charset10.zip.
Include sample program JdbcCheckup confirmed that
oracle installation is correct.
Problem:
========
Our servlet accesses Oracle DB using oci8 drivers.
We are able to succesfully run simple queries
(accessing only 1 table) with result set containing
upto 9882 rows. However, a more complicated query,
accessing 3 tables (one table contains 9882 rows)
and performing a join, usually fails. By some miracle,
it run couple of times after we accessed the same tables
a few times with some simple queries (probably, some data
were cached by Oracle and succesfully reused).
Query fails with the message specified in the subject:
SQLException: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
If we try to repeat the same query with the same connection,
we get:
ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist
Any ideas ? Thanks.

I've already given the developers a changed version that works, but here's the part I don't understand. When it's run as is I get the Ora-03113, but if I change the alias in the subquery select to og (the outer query alias), this sql runs. What is it about selecting the subquery column that is used in the where portion of the exists that makes oracle 9.2.0.1 on windows 2003 enterprise server lose the connection.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance. You're using an unpatched base release and simply hitting a bug that causes the server foreground process that serves your request to fail with an exception that causes the operating system to kill the corresponding process (e.g. segment access violation, general protection fault, you name it).
As a workaround use the rewritten query you've already found out but you should consider to install at least the 9.2.0.8 patch set to prevent most of such nasty bugs in the future.

• How to detect the iPhone Date and Time

Hi guys,
I am new this plateform and I am working on an iPhone application in Objective-C. I need to detect the date and time of iphone clock in the objective-c.
Please let me know if anybody knows how can I do it.
Thanks,
Ranjit Singh

Ranjit,
Be sure to consult the docs for the iPhone SDK. If you are running the simulator, you probably have access to frameworks and classes not available on the phone itself. The iPhone docs don't show NSCalendarDate as a valid class for iPhone (but it exists for MacOS). I think you'll need to use NSCalendar if you wish to have it run on the device (and not just the simulator).
Do you have a device you are testing on? It would be good to verify this (I don't and therefore must use the simulator).
Cheers,
George

• How to detect the end of an external swf loaded into a container

Hi,
I'm having trouble finding a solution for this problem, can somebody help me?
I have a main swf that will load external swfs into a container. I need to detect the end of the loaded external swf in order to start to load and play a new one into the same container.
The problem is that i do not know what the length of the external swfs will be, and will have no control over the development of them, so i cannot place a variable at the end of their animation which would allow me to detect from the main movie its end.
I also cannot rely on the _totalFrames property because the loaded swf might not have all the animation inside its main timeline.
Is there any way to achieve this goal?
Thx

Ok... Its as i thought... unfortunatly...
Gonna mark your latest post again as possible solution, just in case someone comes with any sort of out of the box thing...
Thx for your help Kglad

• Help! ORA-03113 while compiling certain packages!

Hello everyone
Recently we migrated our PLSQL code from Oracle 8.1.7.0 to 9.2.0.4.
While compiling our packages in 9i, we are getting the ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel error.
This happens only when we compile two particular packages.
And then when we connect again immediately, and recompile the same package, it gets compiled.
This is only happening for two packages, frequently. All other packages are not giving this error.
Why could this be happening? Any pointers to this would really help.
Thanks
Bob

ORA-3113 often throws a .TRC file in the USER_DUMP_DEST directory. That might give you a clue.

• Ora-03113  and ORA-00474 - database does not startup . Help !

- Its a Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 standard edition database.
- we get the ora-03113 end of file communication error during startup.
- when we followed step by step it happens between MOUNT => OPEN stage.
- database does mount but gives ora-03113 end of file communication error during OPEN.
- when I checked the alert log file and it has the following errors.
ORA-00447: fatal error in background process
ORA-00474: SMON process terminated with error
- i did run "recover database" command it says media recovery complete, but when I try to open it fails with ora-03113 error. Even a reset logs did not help
Question:
1) I wanted to somehow open the database even if there is a data loss ? how can I do that ?
2) Can I create a new instance and attach these datafiles/controlfiles/redo logs and be able to start the database ?
3) We have only 6 months old backup , so wanted to know if somehow we can open this database.
Thanks in advance

• Ora-03113 and no oracle process found in SuSE10.1

I just installed Oracle10.2 on SuSE10.1.
When created database, the ora-03113 occured.
And other results are:
ps -ef can't find any Oracle process,
ipcs can't find any Oracle process either.
the question is how to start the backgroud process manually?
And how to solve the ora-03113 problem?
I know it's very complicated. :)
Roy

yes. i can follow these steps. all envs are correct, i think.
i didn't create the database successfully, so when i startup the instance using startup nomount, the error ora-03113 occurs too.
the bad thing is I can't find any error messages in BACKGROUND_DUMP or other placess.
How can I handler this?

• desc table_name gets ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

My installation running on Windows 2000 Oracle9i. When issue desc table_name i get ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel. I have set processes = 300 in parameter file.

The ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel error is a generic error. The ORA-03113 error when connecting suggests that the connection was established, but lost later, like a timeout.
There are many possible causes for the ORA-03113 error. See MetaLink Note:17613.1 "ORA-03113":
For example, ORA-3113 could be signaled for any of these scenarios:
- Server machine crashed
- Your server process was killed at O/S level
- Network problems
- Oracle internal errors / aborts on the server
- Client incorrectly handling multiple connections
- etc.. etc.. etc.. - a lot of possible causes !!
It goes on to note that the ORA-03113 End-Of-File error often has additional messages:
It is common for this error to be accompanied by other errors such as:
- ORA-1041 internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist
- ORA-3114 not connected to ORACLE
- ORA-1012 not logged on
To find more details, check for a trace file in your USER_DUMP_DEST and BACKGROUND_DMP_DEST directory.
Hope this helps . . .

• ORA-03113 error with sdo_difference function

Hi,
I am trying to find the topological difference between geometries in two tables, using the sdo_difference function. For certain geometries, I am getting the "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel" error.
All my geometries are valid and are in the same projection.
I am not able to track down why exactly this is happening. My hunch is that this occurs when there is an exact match between two geometries.
Has anyone come across this problem before?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Sundar.

My client is using 8.1.6 and I was having the same problem. The geometries I'm using are machine built (translated from Intergraph drawings) and they have complex geometries with individual lines.
I increased my TOLERANCE from 0.0000000005 to 0.000005 metres and the problem was disappeared.
The same workaround fixed problems I was having with SDO_INTERSECTION as well.
