ScriptUI get path to indesign install directory
Does anyone know if there is a way to get a users path to their install directory?
I have script, that creates a new menu item when Indesign starts up. the menu item is clicked, it opens another script.
Right now, I have the path to the second script hardcoded, which works fine:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5.5\Scripts\Scripts Panel\DM_Core\DM_RemoveMenu.vbs
but now I have to give this to other users, and I need to know if there is some way to get the installation path that they have to their indesign.
Ultimately, what I would like to get is this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5.5\Scripts
I have tried scriptsFolder but that doesn't take me to the right place.
Anyone have any ideas.
Thanks,
This should get you what you want:
function GetScriptsFolder (){
var scriptsFolder = null;
do{
// On Mac this is a folder inside the app package
var appFolder = Folder.startup;
if (! appFolder.exists){break;}
scriptsFolder = Folder(appFolder + "/Scripts");
while (appFolder.exists && ! scriptsFolder.exists){
appFolder = appFolder.parent;
scriptsFolder = Folder(appFolder + "/Scripts");
if (! scriptsFolder.exists){
scriptsFolder = null;
break;
while (false);
return scriptsFolder;

Air Javascript - Get path from user selected directory
Solution: The resulting variable is just an air.File, and
nativePath is accessible, as I expected. It just did nothing the
first few times I tried it.Try this:
SPPlatformFileSpecification spec;
// do sADMBasic->StandardGetDirectoryDialog()
ai::FilePath path;
sAIFilePath->SetFromSPFileSpec(spec, path);
Then talk to path to get your location. Hopefully that does the job. I've never used StandardGetDirectoryDialog() though, so for all I know its broken. -
How to get the Most RECENTLY installed JRE path and version ?
Hello Experts,
I am working on Installshield, and for some purpose, I need to get the MOST RECENTLY installed JRE version and Path. Now I have two choices :
1. Go into the directory " C:\Program Files\Java\" and get the most recently changed directory, ( that will be the installation directory of the most recently installed JRE ). And then search in the registry under : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/JavaSoft/Java Runtime Environment/ and look for the version which is having
the value of the key INSTALLDIR as the above found Installation Directory.
But in this approach, I'll never find the Installation dir or version, if the JRE is installed somewhere else than the default location.
2. Now this is the reverse. I first search in the registry, and get the Installation Directories of all the versions installed in the system, and then look at the file attributes ( may be by using some batch file ) and see which one is most recently installed.
My question is, is there any other way, by which I can get the most recently installed JRE's installation Path and version? Or can we trace it during the installation itself ? I mean when we install the JRE, it creates some log files in %TEMP% directory. Is it possible to trace the version and installation directory of the most recently installed JRE from the log file ?
Thanks
GaganRendering times are pretty much based on processor speed if I have that right. Not much you can do about that other than buy a new computer. Your day to day work in the finder and accessing of files would be faster with your boot drive internal. One thing you can do is ensure your FCP System Settings are on the fastest disk you have. If you put a pair of drives internal and made a RAID volume for them you would improve your write speed when capturing and for any other read/write operations. You would have to be sure you kept that backed up properly because you double the odds of a failure when two drives spread the data between them. There are many RAID options.
You could also bump up the RAM but you'd have to look at your processes to see if you are being limited by RAM. I'm guessing not but it's not impossible. If you are accessing scratch disks due to RAM limitations that would be one thing you could do.
I would never bother connecting an external via USB if there was an esata or firewire option. I use an esata card internally to give me access to estata storage. I also keep an external FW800 drive for a mirror backup of my boot drive. All my data and booting is internal with all my backups external. Each internal has an external and I have additional externals that I keep off site to protect against fire and theft. -
Is it possible to get install directory path info?
Windows(registry?) & MacintoshHi accellea,
OfCourse you can get the install directory path info?
Use this:
var dir:File = File.applicationDirectory;
trace(dir.url);
It will display you the install directory path -
I use an .ini file to allow the users to change the bootup preferneces for the program. In the past that file lived in the install directory and OpenFile could cheerfully find the file and apply the preferences. In CVI 2013, the program seems to need an implicit path to the file. Is there a way around this?
Solved!
Go to Solution.I'm not using CVI2013 yet, but in any case you can build up a full pathname for a file in the application folder using GetProjectDir and MakePathname commands at runtime.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

How to get the path of the cache directory ?
Hi everyone,
I need to get the path of the cache directory to copy files into it (these files are security files that are necessary to encrypt data).
Maybe there is a jnlp.jar to have object that implements a method getCachePath() ? But I can't find it.
Any ideas ?. thanks.you can find the cache location by finding the location of the jar file you are running from:
URL resource =
this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("testResource");
if (resource != null) {
String s = resource.toString();
if (s.startsWith("jar:")) {
int index = s.indexOf("!");
if (index > 4) {
String fileurl = s.substring(4,index);
if (fileurl.startswith("file:")) {
String path = fileurl.substring(5);
// now path is the path to the jar file in the cache containing the resource

Hi Experts,
I got the error "cannot find real path for '/var/install/Client/DATA_UNITS/HDB_CLIENT_LINUX_X86_64/../install/sdbrun': No such file or directory" and "Error during execution of HdbCmdClazz section!" during SAP NW 740 HANA installation. I specified the right path for HDB client (see in attachment).
Any ideas, please?
Thanks & best regards,
SreenuThe service file is in $srcdir, not $_svnmod/builders/cmake.
You're using an outdated PKGBUILD template too. The svn source should be included in the source array and not checked out manually during the build process.
EDIT: since this repository requires authentication, perhaps the correct format won't work.

Get path of product is installed
I installed ESET Nod32 Antivirus 6 (6.0316.0) on C:\\. I'd like to get path of product is installed with VC++ 2010-win32.
What I do?
and at first I'd like cheched that is nod32 installed on system or no?Sounds like you want to get info about installed programs. To do that you can use the MSI API but
WMI might be easier to use. (from WMI Code Creator):
using System;
using System.Management;
using System.Windows.Forms;
namespace WMISample
public class MyWMIQuery
public static void Main()
try
ManagementObjectSearcher searcher =
new ManagementObjectSearcher("root\\CIMV2",
"SELECT * FROM Win32_Product WHERE Name = 'Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013'");
foreach (ManagementObject queryObj in searcher.Get())
Console.WriteLine("-----------------------------------");
Console.WriteLine("Win32_Product instance");
Console.WriteLine("-----------------------------------");
Console.WriteLine("Caption: {0}", queryObj["Caption"]);
Console.WriteLine("InstallLocation: {0}", queryObj["InstallLocation"]);
Console.WriteLine("Name: {0}", queryObj["Name"]);
catch (ManagementException e)
MessageBox.Show("An error occurred while querying for WMI data: " + e.Message);
By filtering to the app(s) you want you can determine if it is installed and what the install path was.

Hi
I need to know the command for getting list of softwares installed on all the remote systems in network which are existing in their respective registry like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE of all other systemsHey
Sorry this isn't powershell but it should do the job if you want to use it. The problem with using the Win32_Product WMI Class to enumerate the installed software (especially on Windows 2000 & 2003 Servers) is that the WMI class is NOT installed by default. Here is a VBScript i wrote to read a list of hostnames from a text file named "ComputerNames.txt" from the scripts directory and attempt to remotely enumerate all subkeys within the following registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
For each subkey enumerated it will attempt to read the value of the "DisplayName" key and output the results to a csv file.
(the results should be the same as what you would see when you open Add/Remove Programs)
Hope that helps
Cheers
Matt :)

Cannot get windows 7 to install on new imac
I have a new "Thunderbolt" imac. Using the boot camp assistant disk that came with it (or the downloaded one), I cannot get windows 7 successfully installed. Mostly won't start up. Long hang-ups, mouse won't work. Have used Boot Camp on older mac Pro for a long time with perfectly consistent results, but am frustrated here. I have followed instructions, made several fresh install attempts, used stock mouse and keyboard that came with imac, poor results. Boot camp appears to be v3.0 something. Wish I knew better what to ask......
Hi joehonse,
Would you please let us know current situation of this issue? Any update?
Regarding to error:
Package installation did not succeed, this issue may occur if you connect a computer to a server that is running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials while other Windows updates or application installations are pending and the Connector installation is canceled.
àWhen
I navigate to that path, the installer is already there. I'm not sure if it should work like this, but I have tried to run that installer independently, and it will fail everytime.”
Based on your description, did you mean that you can find the installer, however, can’t run it as normal? Would
you please let me know the error message that you can get?
In addition, as Robert suggested, would you please download the installer manually and replace the existed
one. Then please run and monitor the result.
Meanwhile, please refer to the following article and check if can help you.

Hi Everyone,
I have a NAS (Network Attached Storage) which holds my photos. I want to import them into Apple photos (but via the reference method).
I did this by going to Preferences/General and unchecking the 'Importing: Copy items to the Photo library' option.
I connect to my NAS via AFP and have mount 'Media' which is where my photos are stored.
I select the file/import option, navigate to aforementioned photo location and select the "Review for import" button
I then receive an error which states:
Unreadable File
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
Filename Reason
Filename.jpg Database Error: can't get path to master
The above error happens on multiple file types.....
However ...
If I tick the option in the preferences/general to 'Importing : Copy items to photo library" option then the file will import successfully.
I of course don't want to import the files I want them to be referenced...
Anyone else experiencing this issue????
Thanks in advance.
BenjaminIf this is a 3rd party application, I would seek out that company and ask for an updated version compatible with 2010, then it would be a matter of simply installing it per their instructions.
Otherwise, the best course of action is to deactivate the feature from WSSv3 prior to removal. If that is no longer possible, then use
FeatureAdmin to remove the feature from within 2010.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks, and now I cannot get Adobe Reader to install.
I have a MacBook Pro with 10.9.2. I was unable to open the version of Adobe Reader I had been using, so I used CleanMyMac to uninstall it. I then tried to install Adobe Reader multiple times to no avail. I am able to download and begin the installation process, but depending on where I download from, I get one of two messages. One reads, "Package name is Adobe Reader XI (11.0.06) installer: Installing at base path / installer: The install failed (The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.)"
The other error message, using the other AR download, says, "Found a higher version Adobe Reader in the installation location. Installation will terminate."
I have, as noted, uninstalled everything Adobe from the computer. I have turned the computer on and off. I have emptied the trash.
Any suggestions on something else to try?
Thanks in advance,
EliseCleanMyMac is not really recommended software, you should take a look at the many threads on these forums that discuss whether it is needed & if it is safe to use.
Personally I don't think it is safe to use tools like CMM because they can encourage you to 'clean' essential system files that the OS needs. It also runs processes in the background that use up system resources for what purpose?
As for Adobe Reader. It's clear that CMM didn't remove all traces of Reader since Adobe's installer is still finding evidence of a 'newer' version installed (this seems like an error on the part of the installer).
You will need to follow Adobe's instructions for removing Reader correctly, instructions vary for each version of Reader, so you will need to try to figure out what was installed.
