Scriptwriting template in iWork 06

Hi, I just installed the trial version of iWork 06. I was going through the new version of PAGES and stumble upon the new template for scriptwrithing. Since I work for a film production company, this looked like a great alternative to the very pricy MovieMagic Screenwriter.
I made few tests with one of our writer and we couldn't figure out if there is shortcuts to change the writing style from SCENE, to ACTION, to CHARACTER NAME, DIALOGUE....
The only one that works naturaly is after writing the CHARACTER NAME, by pressing Return, it goes automatically to the DIALOGUE style. This should be the same between SCENE and ACTION and we should have a shortcut from ACTION to CHARACTER NAME and also from DIALOGUE to SCENE (to go to the next scene after the dialogue is done).
Did we miss those shorcuts or this is improvement we should expect in the future? For sure, this is VERY promising and if those shorcuts exist already, I am ordering iWork right now.
Thanks for your help!

Hey there,
Pages can format screenplays pretty well. You can tweak it to suit your writing needs. Although you cannot assign shortcuts to script elements like in Screenwriter or Final Draft out of the box, with the help of a little AppleScript and hot key software like Keyboard Maestro you can.
A bit of script goes like this:
tell document 1 of application "Pages"
set theSelection to selection
set paragraph style of theSelection to paragraph style "SCENE HEADING"
end tell
And with Keyboard Maestro, you can assign this script to an F-key or key combo you like.
As previously noted, the one thing that a non dedicated scriptwriting app lacks is the (MORE) and (CONT'D) when a dialog breaks between two pages. For now, I keep the Dialog lines together and keep the Character Name with the following paragraph. It means that if a dialog is too long to fit the page, the whole dialog will move to the next page. It will cause a little white space at the bottom of the previous page, depending how long your dialog is.

Where are all my old templates in iWorks? I run my business off these templates. Please help!, Where are all my old templates in iWorks? I run my business off these templates. Please help! They represent weeks of work.
Am sooooooooo frustrated with Apple and iWorks. Unbelieveable they did this. What am I missing?

I supsect you "upgraded" (i.e., "updated") to Pages 5. Unfortiunately, Pages 5.0-5.1 does not support many features that were present in Pages 4.3. Consequently, when you use Pages 5.x to open a file created with Pages 4.x, unsupported features are (without wanring) stripped out.  This includes, but is by no means limited to, images in headers/footers, merge fields, and bookmarks. And since almost all Applescript support is missing from Pages 5, you will find your ability to interact with many third-party pieces of software curtailed or completely ruined.
It could be worse: If you happened to have been using an earier version of Pages, you'll find that Paages 5 is unable to open those files at all. Presumbaly because of the limitations of Pages 5, Apple ships the software with fewer than half the number of templates that shipped with APges 4.x (about 60 compared to 130).
Note too that Pages 4.3 cannot edit documents created OR EDITED with Pages 5 (or Pages for icloud or Pages 2.x or ios).  You can, however, export files created or edited with Pages 5 to "Pages 09" (i.e. Pages 4.3) format.
The good news is that since you had a previous version of Pages, it is still on your computer, in an iwork folder under Applications. Your original remplates should all still be there and should work with the earlier version of Pages.

  • Deleting My Templates from iWork

Whoa!  I know this is a common question, with multiple answers.  Bear with me, please.
I have both the original iWork '09 and the new, IOS-related iWork '09 on my computer.  In other words, I'm a long-time user of the app.
When I go through the deleting procedure described, only templates created in the old iWork '09 are eliminated.  The templates I created in the new iWork are not in that Library/Applications Support/iWork/Numbers folder.
Any help/ideas on where they may be?
My Numbers app is v. 3.2 and my OS is v. 10.9.3

In Numbers '13, V3.2, unwanted personal templates are deleted by going to the Template Chooser, My Templates. Right click the one you want to eliminate and choose Delete.

  • Free templates for iWorks

can any one recommend a source for some good iWorks templates? MS Office offers lots of additional templates on their website and so I've tried searching the Apple site but have come up with nothing so far.
    Thanks in advance

  • Where should I put downloaded templates for iWork?

I have downloaded several templates and they are in the "downloads" folder. Which folder should they be in to appear in the iWork applications "file", "new" menu? Is there an easier way to download templates and have them automatically placed in the right spot?
    Thanks!

The way I store templates is I open them in the application that they will be used in and then use File > Save As Template.

  • Removing Custom Template in iWork (current)

This question was posed and answered in 2008, but things have changed, I think.  So I ask again, How do you delete custom templates from "My Templates" in the  current (2014) iWork Numbers and Pages?

Disregard.  I found the answer in a 2013 thread.

  • Viewing iwork template files with Lion.

How do I find and view the template files I have created in Pages (or Keynote)? I am using iWork 09 and Lion. When I create and save them in Pages it puts them in Application Support>Pages>Templates, but, according to Finder, this folder does not exist! I have tried viewing 'invisible' files but that didn't help.

    b) Why on earth did the Lion developers decide to hide access to files that I have created on my own computer?!! What possible reason is there for doing this?!
    My own guesses :
They were tired to receive messages from users ranting because their machine behaved wrongly because they have deleted an important item without any knowledge about what they did.
They forgot the case of custom templates because these files aren't stored in a logical area.
Custom templates are documents whose logical location would be in the Documents folder

  • IWork 09- APA Template?

Hey guys I writing an APA Paper and I am looking for a template I think I found one ( http://www.michaelhanscom.com/eclecticism/2010/10/28/apa-6th-edition-paper-templ ate-for-apple-pages-iwork/ ).
However I can't follow the iWorks "Template folder" to place these in.
So I'm looking for the folder, and possibly another APA Template for iWorks. Thanks.

I believe there may be a user-contributed template or two at iWork Community.
As for the path to put any downloaded template in, it's HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. If you've never saved a file as a template from Pages this path won't exist. The easiest way to get the folders is to save a file, any file, as a template. You can always delete that file if you want. Here's a screenshot showing the path two different ways. Those other folders above the highlighted My Templates folder are ones I've added to create sub-categories in the Template Chooser.

  • Old custom templates in Pages 5 .select background item?

I have some custom templates from iWork 09, that worked fine until this pages 5.22 came along.
They are in Word Processing Layout, and also have a separate text box or two.
In Pages 5.22 I can not longer select them, they just appear on the screen as the "Type to enter text' words.
the only way I can select the box is to 'Convert to page layout.
but if i do that, then all the other custom text is deleted, ...a warning is given and other text is gone.
In previous pages, there was an option to 'Select background Item' or a similar entry that allowed me to select these particular text boxes, but in the is new Pages that option is no longer there now the Inspector pane has been changed.
The Arange Tab appears in Page layout, but not in the WP layout...it must have been there before otherwise how else would I have added the text box?
Anyone have any idea how I can make all my old templates usable in this new  of Pages
    Thanks

In the Template Chooser for Pages ’09, there is a category heading named “My Templates,” and by default, there is a physical folder in the following location called My Templates. You are permitted to create arbitrary folder(s) in this location through File > Save As Template… for perceived organization. However, the Template Chooser, unlike the Finder, does not show these sub-folders in its left-hand navigation panel. Instead, it shows all templates (including sub-folder contents) in one view — thus subverting your practical organizational goal.
    <login directory>/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My Templates
When you are presented with the file dialog during the Save as Template… activity, it defaults to the My Templates folder location. Click the selector that shows My Templates, and choose the next higher Templates folder. Now, you create a new organizational folder here (mine is called Journals), and it will show up separately under the My Templates category heading — and the related templates are not shown in the general My Templates folder item view.
If I were to manually create empty folders in the above Templates folder using Finder, as long as they are empty, Pages will not list them in the Template Chooser.

  • Drop zones in iWork

While using a template in iWork you can drag a picture from the Media Browser into a 'drop zone' type area that is preformatted for a portrait/landscape picture and it has a nice frame and drop shadow around it. How can I create these 'drop zones' for my own templates? Do I need to be a developer for this? What does it take?
(I know I can go into Photoshop and create a page with transparency for the background and do 'cut-outs' but I don't want cut-outs. They are limited.)
    Thanks for any input.
    iMac G5 17 1.8 Ghz SuperDrive, MBPro 2.16 C2D 2GB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

"Drop zones" in Keynote are nothing more than backgrounds with cutouts, and whatever graphical fanciness has been added. In Pages, there are Placeholder Images (defined in the Format menu, under the Advanced flyout menu), and these images can have default rotation, masks, and dropshadows, but again the framing will be a graphical feature, and not a feature of the placeholder itself.

  • Are there any additional templates for pages other than those you get when you install the program? If so, where do you find them?

I am looking for additional templates for iWork, specifically for pages. Does Apple or anyone else have them?

Yes there are plenty of third-party templates available for iWork applications. Try doing a search on Google or software download pages such as MacUpdate or VersionTracker.

please help.. i created beautiful letter head templates with iwork pages  and i am trying to give to my employee to use it ... and then they can't import or open  use from microsoft Word 2011. they do not have iwork.. possible can share templates both pages and microsoft word?  is there way to do it?  all the letter logo reflextion effect  that i sed from iwork  dont seem work in microsoft word. ;(
    or it is not possible?
not everyone  in my office has iwork and i want them to use same letter head  i creadted from pages.. so that they can use it from thier PC.
    anyone can help me?

Do you mean template or document? They're not the same thing.
The template formats that Microsoft and Apple use are different (just like all their document formats). You can Export a Pages document in a Word format and send this to your employees. An employee can then save this Word document as a Word template and use it.

  • Numbers Custom Template updates

If I make an update to my custom template, is there a way to make the update show up in a file which is using the template?
    thanks!

    MC,
No. Templates in iWork are just starting points. They are not live styles that will update in previous documents.

  • Organizing Pages Templates

I would like to eliminate some of the standard template in Pages '09 as well as organize the multitude of template that I have made into their own category within the template browser. However, I cannot figure out how to do this and I am very frustrated. Please Help.
    Thank You,
    Scott

    Hi Scott Ciolek,
The following is how to get to the default templates.
My disclaimer: Beware if something or anything goes wrong with Pages or iWork it's all your fault! This is a enduser assisting a enduser.
If you choose to proceed the onus is on you.
    To get to default templates:
Application > iWork 09 > Control Click or right click Pages icon > Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources > Templates. This is where the default templates reside.
As for organizing your own made templates by default they're placed: Home Folder > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. They are organized alphabetically.
That's the way it is, no need to be frustrated.
These Discussions are enduser helping enduser, not Apple employees answering questions. Apple provides these discussion forums for endusers however, Apple neither monitors nor engages in discussions. Enduser such as yourself when they have extra time answer questions.
Finally, if you mess things up for Pages don't call us we're end users. We pointed you where to go it was your choice to go there then mess with things.
Again, welcome to Pages '09 Discussions, have fun here.
    Cordially,
    RicD
