Scrolling bug in address book

When I scroll the names in my address book the name column goes weird and looks like video feedback.
I would show you a picture or a movie but I can't seem to attach it to this message.
Is this a known bug?

Hi AA, try this:
Navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist and delete that file. Then relaunch AddressBook.

  • Bug in Address Book search function?

Here's an annoying bug in Address Book - maybe this has been noted here before.
Like most people, I like to divide my numbers into smaller blocks for legibility - it makes them easier to memorise.
So +49303912345 becomes + 49 30 391 2345 where the country and area codes are separated by a space.
The problem is that if I search for 12345 it will only give me the first result as it thinks that there is a gap/empty space between the 1 and the 2.
This is unhelpful and rather surprising - anyone else notice this - is it a bug?

Don't think it's a bug... It's the way it works.
Are these phone numbers? and are you entering them into the phone number field?
If there appears a gap/empty space between the 1 and 2, then you should expect that it will think there is a gap/empty space between 1 and 2.
Basically, AddressBook - and the other Spotlight interfaces - treat numbers the same as any other text, so that '1 2345' is no more the same as '12345' than 'a star' is the same as 'astar'.
If you've memorized it by blocks, then it should be easier to enter it by the same blocks.
Of course, if you want to see it change, you can always submit feedback

  • Timezone and Birthday bug in Address Book

    Hello,
I just found a bug related to the Address Book, birthday fields, and timezones in 10.4.6. I had many contacts with filled birthdays. I had my system timezone set to Brazil (GMT-3), but now I moved to Japan, and set the timezone to Japan (GMT+9). When I opened Address Book after that, all birthday fields are showing one day late (for instance, if the birthday was on 1978/02/24, it will now show as 1978/02/25). Consequently, the birthdays in iCal are also showing late.
I guess this is an internal representation bug, in that the birthdays are stored with the timezone, and when I changed the system timezone the correct date started being recalculated. But as a "timeless" event, birthdays should only display at the set date, without any conversion.
    PowerBook G4 12 Rev. A/iPod with Video 30GB   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

You seem to be right. Here is what I noticed with further experimentation.
The time difference between Brazil and Japan is 12 hours, that is, in any given day, when it reaches noon (12:00) in Japan, the day is just starting (00:00) in Brazil, and when it reaches noon (12:00) in Brazil, that same day is ending in Japan (23:59). So, during the period 12:00-23:59 in Japan (and 00:00-11:59 in Brazil), both places are under the same day.
Here is the interesting bit: birthday events added in Brazil during this period (before noon) show with the correct date, when I set the timezone do Japan. Birthday events added in Japan in the afternoon also show the correct date when I set the timezone back to Brazil's. So Address Book is using the field edit date, somehow.
For now, I have manually reedited all the birthday fields during this "same day" period, and birthdays are showing correctly no matter if I am in Brazil or Japan, but that is definitely a hack.

  • Help! Dangerous Bug in Address Book ?

    Hi
Using the synch thru .Mac I have had this problem repeat at least twice. I have 5 Macs that I need to keep sync'd, Earlier this year I sync'd one and the others ended up with duplicate and triplicate entries (from 4500 cards to 11,000). Painstakingly I MANUALLY deleted the duplicates and uploaded the new data. A few weeks ago this happenned again but one of the moderators here told me to use Find Duplicates to quickly correct the situation. I thought it was all good then I began to find that it had merged e-mail addresses. In other words. 15% of the Address cards now had 4 or 5 e-mail addresses on them, and it was many of the same addresses that kept recurring. I thought it was just a simple error but but week it happenned again and now about 1/3 of the cards have bad information. Cards that had no e-mail addresses in them now have a address pulled in from another card. I suspect that the Merge data selection has some sort of bug.
To restore my data from either back up or a previous saving of the database
-( I don't trust this program right now and Synch has been giving me errors for over a week so I plan to switch to Filemaker Pro or Entourage). any suggestions for best way to restore data and subsequently export it to???
Which program would you recommend using while Apple gets it together?
Before OSX I used the netscape address book. Do any of these work with Mail or should I used the MS suite?
    Thanks
    Enio

Don't think it's a bug... It's the way it works.

  • Delete fields in Address Book view

I imported my Outlook contacts into AB via .txt file. Now all of the address cards that I have just imported have bithdays and anniversaries with the same date. These fields do not appear on my template in preferences. Is there a way to delete these 2 fields on all of my cards?
    Thanks

    Hi Rob,
What I meant to post was:
    set HitDate to (date "Sunday, November 21, 1999 00:00:00") + 12 * hours
    tell application "Address Book"
    -- Loop through people
    repeat with thisPerson in people
    -- Loop through element
repeat with thisDate in (custom dates of thisPerson)
    -- Take action
if value of thisDate is equal to HitDate then
    delete thisDate
    end if
    end repeat
    end repeat
    end tell
This doesn't work (the items are not deleted), but doesn't error.
It seems to me to be a bug in Address Book.

  • Address Book and Mail - Using Groups for e-mail

I've noticed something strange about Mail and Address Book in Tiger:
I created a new Group in Address Book. The Group contains people who are involved in a project. I have names, home addresses and phone numbers for eveyone, but a few people do not have e-mail. When a try using this Group to send out an e-mail message, Mail warns me that John Smith does not appear to have a valid e-mail address. I can't send the message unless I select only those in the group who have e-mail addresses and only send to them. This is a pain.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug in Tiger's Address Book and Mail.app? How can I get around this? I have several Groups like this that contain entries with no e-mail.

It's not a bug in Address Book, it's a limitation. Your only way to get around that is to either remove those from the group, or give them all the same email address; i.e., send those to you so you are reminded that they didn't get the email and you have to notify them some other way.
And of course, when sending to more than one person, never put the recipients in the To or CC field; they should always go in the BCC field.

  • Custom Size Envelope Printing In Address Book

First off, I'm using an Epson SC 880.
I want to print on 5x7 envelopes. I am able to define the custom size of 5x7, but when I attempt to print, it spits the envelope out unprinted.
I'm wondering if this is a printer driver problem or a bug in Address Book or if something I'm specifying in the custom size is wrong.
    Any comments appreciated.

It appears that there is a major bug in this new version of Address Book. First I found that when you go in the "Print" panel, go to "Envelopes", go to "Layout", and then go in Layout to "Layout" submenu and use "Define Custom" which comes up "Layout Name" and when type in any name and click "OK" it UN-SELECTS the "Layout Panel" and you cannot change any of the parameters, BUT I discovered that if after you type in a "Layout Name", click "OK": and then click "Cancel" and then again open "Print". It opens to the same place as before (with everything the same) BUT with the Layout Panel SELECTED and you can now change all the parameters. I don't know about the printer printing blank sheets, because my printer seems to work fine. But I have a HP and you have an Epson. Hopefully those geniuses at Apple will get around to fixing this problem sometime in 2006 or 2007, who knows!!!!!

  • Address Book Distribution List Settings Don't Stick

Is there a bug in Address Book for distribution lists? When I attempt to edit an address book distribution by changing the default email, the setting does not stick. I can select a bold any address for a contact with multiple addresses, but then when I go back in and look at the distribution list, it goes back to the previous email and not the one I selected.

I was having a very similar problem.  For some individuals, I could change the preferred e-mail address in edit distribution list, but not for others.  After some messing around, I discovered that the only people whose settings didn't stick were those whose first e-mail listed in the Edit Distribution List sheet was a facebook.com e-mail.  If they had a Facebook e-mail that wasn't first in the list, I could change them.
The order of e-mail addresses in the Edit Distribution list and the individual cards wasn't the same. e.g. I couldn't reset my husband's e-mail address because in Edit Distribution, his facebook.com address was listed first.  But it was listed last on his actual card.
I fixed things by going to System Preferences, Mail Contacts & Calendars, locating my Facebook account in the list, and unchecking "contacts."   The facebook.com addresses disappeared in contacts, and the changes I made in Edit Distribution list stuck.

  • Address Book Self-replicating contacts! They breed like rabbits!! Aaargh!!!

1 to 2 contacts for Apple (1 Infinite Loop etc.) are being created every minute both in Address Book itself and my Entourage address book. The rate at which they are created appears to be constant whether the applications are active or not (a system bug?) Address Book and Entourage are synced, although I'm not certain that this is a factor. When I realised what was happening, I cleared around 2000 (at least!) out of my address book, but they're still appearing. Any suggestions that don't involve taking a hammer to my beloved PowerBook would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It's Apple's viral marketing at work, and you're the (un)lucky one chosen to spread the word!
Have you tried disabling the sync in Entourage for a while, and deleting the extraneous entries in its address book? If while the sync is disabled you're not getting replicating entries in Entourage but still doing so in Address Book, you've at least knocked out one half of the equation.
I'm afraid I don't know enough about the inner workings of the Address Book database and sync services to offer much assistance if self-replicating entries still persist. Short of exporting your Address Book a file and erasing all entries and/or reinstalling Address Book, I don't have any other ideas.
Any one else have any ideas?

  • Address book search now does not find contacts older contacts in 8310

Hi from a new subscriber, and Thanks for any help!  A month ago my 8310 Curve, v. 4.5.0.55 (Platform 2.7.0.68) service provider O2, stopped being able to search and find Contacts unless I had added them after that date.  These newer Contacts have not been folded into the original Address Book, but are all in a new and alphabetised list at the end of the original Contacts list.  There are no Categories assigned, no Network sync, and Content is not protected.  The Contacts are in the phone, not on the SIM.
Before this, I could type in to the Address Book or the phone the first 2-3 letters of someone's name and it would take me to that contact - now it says there's no such person.  So I have to scroll through the entire address book to get to who I want, and then I can call/SMS etc.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated!  Thanks.
    Matilda
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First off, do a simple reboot:  With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
Does this fix your address book?
If not, let me ask if you have added a Gmail email address in the past month, about when this odd behaviour began?
Can you look at Options > Status > press the Meny key > Database Sizes.
Scroll down to Address Book, do you see more than one listed?
    What do you see?

  • Merging dupe records in Address Book erases everything

I selected the LOOK FOR DUPLICATE ENTRIES and MERGE DUPLICATE ENTRIES drop down menu commands in Address Book, and after merging, the process bar froze. Upon rebooting, i discovered all my address book records had been deleted . How may I retrieve them? And is this a bug in Address Book, or am i just unlucky?
Mac Book Pro 15" Mac OS X (10.4.6)
Mac Book Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Quit AddressBook.
Look if you can locate one of these files:
    youruserhome/library/application support/addressbook/
    addressbook.data
    addressbook.data.backup
    addressbook.data.previous
Look at the sizes of these folders, duplicate them to the desktop as a precaution.
remove addressbook.data and put it in the trash
    rename addressbook.data.previous to addressbook.data
Now open AB again and see if this has worked.
If it did, start using the build-in feature to make a backup (file menu)

  • Address Book missing from Running Applications

I run Address Book and "Open at Login".  I'm running MacOS X Lion 10.7.4 and Address Book 6.1.2 on a MacBook Pro.  I have just recently noticed that though the Dock shows the little blue indicator that Address Book is running and the Ctrl-TAB shows that Address Book is running, there is no way to bring up Address Book's Window.  This started about a week or so ago.
Activity Monitor window also does not show the Address Book in the processes list regardless of the filtering.
Is there a new bug in Address Book?

    Hello:
I do not know of any Address Book "bugs," old or new.
You might try trashing a couple of preference files and restarting:
    com.apple.addressbook.abd.plist
    com.apple.addressbook.plist
    com.apple.addressbooksourcesync.plist
If that does not help, try removing the application from your startup items, restart, and see if you can open the application.

  • Can't delete address book entries!

I am trying to sync Address Book with Google Mail, and as part of this, I have to delete all my addresses on one side and then copy from the other side.
When I delete all my addresses in Address Book, quit, and relaunch Address Book, I find... all my addresses. Even if I delete them a few at a time, I still find most of my addresses after quit and relaunch. Is Address Book totally broken?
For instance, I have 668 contacts. I delete one, quit, relaunch and I have 667 contacts. But if I have 667 contacts and delete 31, quit and relaunch and I have 667 contacts!
Yes, all sync software is turned off.
    A

Thank you V.K. I tried that, and restored from backup. Same behavior.
Turns out that my address book was corrupted, and it appears that the corruption is preserved in the "abbu" backups. When I deleted the Address Book folder, and then imported from a vcf file, it was fixed. All my groups were gone of course.
Still finding lots of bugs in Address Book not related to corrupt data, but this appears to be fixed

  • Can't copy address book to other machines

I have recently updated my address book on my main production machine. I exported as an archive. On the other two machines in the office, I restored from backup and selected my new address book archive. However, when I scroll through the address book on the two other machines, none of my new names are in the book. How do I copy my address book to the other machines so we all have the same address book.

If the export method isn't working, you can do it by hand
Go to ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder). Then just copy it over to the other Macs, if they are all running the same system.
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
