SCSM 2012 report without report server

Is there a way to generate SSRS incident reports as well as others with the SCSM SQL database? I do not have reporting services installed due to a failure in dev. I was wanting to use another Report Server and create queries/views.
ie. Sharepoint 2010 to generate reports. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks!

All of the reports are produced from the Data Warehouse Server. that would be the key piece. the Data Warehouse server INCLUDES a SSRS instance. is this the instance that failed?
If you were to use another reporting engine or instance, make sure to point it to the DWDatamart database, this is the Flat, user readable database that is ETL'd out for consumption by reports and BI.
do not try to read from the Active ServiceManager database.
It's a 5th or 6th normalized, star model, object reference, GUID keyed indecipherable mess. A college of mine has been working in ops manager and service manager for nearly 4 years, almost all of that in the database, and he recently claimed that he ALMOST
understands what's going on in the active ServiceManager database. What i'm getting at is that the ServiceManager database is designed to perform well with highly interconnected object data, not designed to be human readable.
Plus, the active database is constantly groomed; old closed incidents, service requests, etc are routinely cleared from the active database. These are kept in the DataWarehouse, but not in the active database.
The reason for both of the above is the performance cost. The ServiceManager database is TIGHTLY interconnected (cause 6th normalized object mess, from above), and every entry in the active database has a cost for almost every view. Console performance is basically
dominated by SQL performance. If you start hitting the active database with reporting queries, you're going to have a real impact on console performance.

  • Issues while migration reports to 2012 report server .

I am stuck in report server related issue . Following are steps and log files details  for migrating report server database from 2005 to 2012 :-
Back up the encryption key for the report server database.
Back up the report server database a SQL Server database.
Back up the report server configuration files.
Restore the database from the backup created , As temporary database and the main database are depend so they should be restored together.
Start the Reporting Services Configuration tool and connect to the Reporting Services instance you just installed.
Configure URLs for the report server and Report Manager
Configure the report server database, selecting the existing report server database from your previous installation. After successful configuration, the report server services
will restart, and once a connection is made to the report server database, the database will be automatically upgraded to SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services.
As we were not able to figure out the password I tried another approach to test if the
report server works after deleting the encrypted data . I deleted encrypted data.
Error below is shown in log files when I try to access report manager .

    Hello Manish,
I am sorry for my delay.
As we know, the service pack of SQL Server is free to download and install, and the latest SP for SQL server 2005 is SP4, so that Microsoft recommend that we migrate the service from SQL Server 2005 SP4 to SQL Server 2012. If you still want to upgrade the
service from SSRS 2005 SP3, we cannot guarantee that all features can work properly, and we did not test it yet. Therefore, I still recommend you upgrade the SQL server 2005 to SP4 if possible.
In addition, you can refer to the following article on MSDN to see whether it can meet your requirement. It is a general step to migrate the SSRS.

I hope it is helpful to you.

  • SQL Server 2012 Report Server mode is blank?

Hi, I have configured SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012
with complete features on the same server.
But when I checked Report Server mode under Report Service Configuration Manager it’s
showing blank means Report Server mode neither in native mode nor in SharePoint integrated mode.
    What is the issue?
    I want
Report Server mode should be in SharePoint integrated mode.

You need to install the Reporting Services - SharePoint feature from the SQL Server installation media onto the SharePoint server. You then need to start the Service Instances in Manage Services on Server and create a new SSRS Service Application in Manage
    Service Applications.

  • Will the reports developed in sql server 2008 r2 BIDS work when deployed on sql server 2012 reporting manager

Will the reports developed in sql server 2008 r2 BIDS work when deployed on sql server 2012 reporting manager?
when I check on Microsoft site it says
Reports are not upgraded when you upload a report definition file directly to the report server
or SharePoint site. Upgrading a report definition in SQL Server Data Tools is the only way to upgrade the .rdl file.
When you open an .rdl file in Report Designer in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), if the report was
created for a previous namespace, Report Designer automatically creates a backup file and upgrades the report to the current namespace.
This is the only way you can upgrade a report definition file.
Now here is another confusing statement which says
You can upload an .rdl file created in an earlier version of Reporting Services to a SQL Server
2012 report server and it is automatically upgraded on first use. The report server stores the report definition file in the original format. The report is automatically upgraded the first time it is viewed, but the stored report definition file remains
    unchanged.
All I want to know is if I deploy a rdl made in 2008 r2 to 2012 will it work on the report manager of
    2012?
    <o:p>
    </o:p>
    Mudassar

I have tested this fucntionality and can confirm that ssrs 2008 r2 reports work when you deploy them on new ssrs 2012 report manager .
    No Migration is required .
I didnt even moved report server dbs .All I did is just deployed reports on the report manager and it worked .
    "You
can upload an .rdl file created in an earlier version of Reporting Services to a SQL Server 2012 report server and it is automatically upgraded on first use. "
Microsoft needs to correct this the documentation is misleading

  • Error while installing SCOM 2012 reporting component.

    Hello Experts,
I had to recently tired installing SCOM 2012 reporting server role on one of the SSRS instances and got the below error.
The SQL team created a dedicated SSRS instance for SCOM(SSRS_SCOM2012) on a SQL instance which hostes other SSRS instances for other applications like SCCM 2007, FEP2010 and FIM2010. I understand the SSRS is are individual components and should not have
dependency with other SSRS instance on the same SQL instance.
A few weeks back i successfully installed the reporting service on another SSRS isntance on a SQL isntance which hosts no other SSRS instances on it for creating a dev SCOM for our enviornment.
The SSRS configuration has been done correctly with service accounts, execution account, database created etc configured for production.
No SSL nor any proxy set for the SQL Report server.
One option i am left with now is running resetSRS.exe to reset the SSRS. But before doing this i would like to take advice from you all as i need to run this on production which hosts other prod SSRS instance on the same SQL instance as well :(
    Please Advice.
    Regards,
    Prajul Nambiar

Thanks Gautam for the quick response.
Answers to your questions are as below.
Q1:Is the SQL version same as of what you are using for the Database engine services as well ?
    A1: Yes, its SQL 2008 R2.
Q2: Are the SQL URL's Working as expected ?
A2: Yes, both the Report URL and Report Manager URL are working even though there is no content in it as
SCOM Reporting component is yet to be installed successfully.
    Q3: Is
the Scale of deployment joined ?
    A3 : No, its Native.
    Q4 : Also you can Run resetSRS.exe
So it will just reset the Reporting and will not affect any other component.
A4 : For say my SQL cluster name is ABC which is on a
4 node cluster and we have created SSRS(SSRS_SCOM2012) on one of the node(Server1) of that 4 node cluster. SCOM installer discovers SSRS instance name as Server1\SSRS_SCOM2012. so do it have the run the command as "resetsrs.exe Server1\SSRS_SCOM2012"
    or "resetsrs.exe ABC"?

  • Is there a way to trick MS Service Manager 2012 to use SQL Server 2014 when installing it?

I recently set up a virtual Lab on my laptop. I dont have much resources on my laptop and can only have around 5 servers. the problem is that i already set up SQL Server 2014 standalone and configured all of my services to use that server which works
fine. however when i try to install MS Service Manager 2012 it throws "SQL has to be either 2012 or 2008" error ..
is there a way for me to trick the Registry so Service Manager will install?
    Thank you

I don't know a trick to install SCSM 2012 on a SQL Server 2014. But maybe you can use a SQL Server 2012 for installation temporary and move the db after installation is done to your SQL Server 2014?
Moving the Service Manager and DW Databases
Might be worth a try. But it's definitely not recommended for a productive environment!

  • SCSM 2012 R2 AD connector sync issue

    Hi Guys,
    I have a very strange
issue with the AD connector and have been struggling with it for a couple of days now. Frankly I’m out of options and hope some here can help me out.
Let me start by telling you briefly how our environment is setup.
    Domain1 : 500 users, 600 workstations, 100 servers
Mainly used for office automation, with Exchange2010, MS SQL2008R2, Link, SCOM 2012 R2, SCCM2012 Windows 7 clients etc. Domain level is 2008 R2, with two domain
    controllers.
    Domain2 : 50 users, 250 servers
    Web and Application servers.
    Domain3 : 80 workstations, 100 users
Just a bunch of workstations for public use.
Service Manager : is member of Domain1
    Version             : SCSM 2012 R2
    OS
    : Windows Server 2012 R2 x64
    SCSM-SRV-1
    : management server
    SCSM-SRV-2
    : Datawarehouse server
    MS SQL cluster 2008 R2 x64
    Instance1
    : Service Manager database
    Instance2
    : Datawarehouse databases
    Domain1
    AD_Connector1 : Users
    AD_Connector2 : Servers/workstations
    AD_Connector3 : Printers
    SCCM connector
    SCOM CI connector
    Exchange connector
    Domain2
    AD_Connector4 : Users
    AD_Connector5 : Servers
    Domain3
    AD_Connector6 : Users
    AD_Connector7 : Servers/Workstations
The problem is only with the AD connectors for Domain1, the ones for domain 2 and 3 are working as they should.
    What happens;
    1. Create AD_Connector1 succesfully
    2. Start a manual sync, all goes well. CMDB now contains all users from domain1
    3. Create some new users in AD
    4. Start a manual sync, new users are not synced.
When I reboot SCSM-SRV-1 and do a manual sync users are populated again.
Doing a second sync after adding users they again don't get synced. When I leave it at this the users apear in the CMDB after a couple of days (varies from 1 to
    5 days).
    When succesful the evenlog shows event id, 3102, 3103, 333, 3305, 3339, 34011 and 34012
When it goes wrong the evenlog shows event id, 3102, 3103, 333, 3305
    and 3339. Further no errors.
    I tried;
    - recreating the connectors
    - using different service accounts
    - created a second service manager environment for testing purposes. (freshly installed SCSM with only 2 AD connectors one for domain1 users (TESTOU) and one for
domain2 users (TESTOU). Same problem the one for domain2 manualy syncs well each time I try and the one for domain1 only the first time after a reboot.
Since the problem occurs only with domain1, and the connector at least works well the first time, I assume there is no problem with the Service Manager
    installation.
I checked the domain controllers and see no problems everything looks oke.
Hope some one can shed some light on this for me.

    Hi there,
    ve tried installing the upgrade

  • SCSM 2012 - Self Service Portal installation Error

    Hi Everyone,
I am trying to update SCSM 2010 with 2012. So far I have successfully installed Database Server and Warehouse server, and now I am trying to install the self service portal but it is giving me an error saying "Setup has failed because of an unexpected
error. Please review C:\..\SCSMSertupWizard01.log for more details.
Here are some extra information in relation to this upgrade.
I have got 3 separate servers for my SCSM 2010 application. One act as a warehouse database server. second server holds the Service Manger Database and the third one has got Self-service portal on it.
Now as I said earlier, I did not face any issue upgrading the first two servers (warehouse and Database) but the last one is proving very difficult to just even start with.
Here is some interesting thing that is happening while I am trying to install my self service portal.
When I run the SCSM 2012 setup on my web portal server (Server 3) I get a setup screen with following option
and as I said earlier when I click this Upgrade option it starts the "requirements check" and fails just there with an error message.
Now here is the interesting thing, when I run the SCSM 2012 setup on my server 2 ( which has now got Database Server 2012 installed in it) gives me following option screen.
So when I select this option it starts to install Web content server and Sharepoint site server on my Database server. I do not want that. I want to have my web content server on Server 3 which already has  SSP 2010 on it. I have also installed Sharepoint
    2010 on my third server.
    What is the solution here?
Do I have to merge my Database and Web content server? is it some sort of untold requirement of SCSM 2012 upgrade?
    Please help me here.
    Svapnil

    Hi there,
    thanks for the reply..
here is the screenshots of the log files.
Sorry all my 3 servers are on DMZ environment so it is bit hard for me to move files from virtual to live servers (Do not have enough permission level to do so!!)

    I hope this helps!!
