Hi All,
It would be great if someone advice or help for developing customized application for PDF document. I want make following feature in my application using .Net technology.
1. How to search the particular listed text and need Highlight that words in PDF document
2. And is it feasible to search that highlighted word alone using search custom option
3. once reached the word I want to change the background color in that word

I have Adobe Acrobat, after developed certain autoamation with VB.Net; I need to install that EXE in another system; it is require again Adobe Acrobat full version or Reader alone. Please confirm.

  • HIGHLIGHTING WORDS AND DICTIONARIES SUPPORT - Search and highlight words in the PDF documents

    One of the things that Adobe people don't understand very well, is they focus and focus and focus constantly in adding new "cool" features to the product... as more flash support... etc. etc.
    But Adobe still pending to make easier the life of people that work with tons and literally tons of PDF documents.
    Students, researchers, law professors, academics... they all need a solution to search and highlight in different colors, for certain words in a lot of documents.
    So here we have a challenge for the Adobe folks.
    Let's imagine you are working in a Law Office, ok? (you're lawyer, not programmer)
    You have a trial tomorrow...
    The trial is about robbery (for example)
    Now you are looking for Jurisprudence (other similar cases that were judged before)...
    And let's imagine you have a folder with 200 cases in 200 PDF files, talking about robbery, between the years 2005-2009
    Now, let's imagine you are interested to search the words:
    CONVICTION
    KIDNAPPING
    ASSAULT
    FAILURE
    CRIME
    SUBPOENA
    How do you do that Adobe folks?
    Reading the 200 documents? one by one, having to drink all the ink of the documents, line by line...
    Or, could you, please, allow Adobe Acrobat 10 can handle dictionaries of words, and allow the users, to search and highlight those words in folder of PDF documents.
    Of course!!! you'll tell me, oh, you can accomplish a search of the desired words and Acrobat will search them for you in a lot of documents in a folder...
    And I'll reply you! oh! that is not enough!
    And do you know why?
    Just simpley because I need to see all the information highlighted in a context...
    If I see the word CRIME in red close to FAILURE... also in red I can see that something wrong is happening with that trial, for example...
    Do you understand now that searching single words in a lot of documents is not enough, and you have to improve URGENTLY this feature?
    Highlighting the words the users need to search in a folder of documents, allow INTENSIVE RESEARCH AND SAVE HOURS AND DAYS AND EVEN MONTHS OF HARD WORK TO THE USERS.
    In that way, you don't have to read the whole document, you just go directly to the highlighted parts.
    I've been submitting this feature since Adobe Acrobat 6!!!! No one in Adobe listened to me!!!
    I sincerely don't know why these forums are opened, must be an idea of someone from marketing, because finally, Adobe don't implement any specification from the users.
    I am absolutely sure, Adobe folks will present the 10 version as something pretty cool, with more flash support and more graphic stuff.
    But, as always, withouth helping the real people that work extensively with large amounts of documents.
    So I hope, Sirs, Madams of Adobe, please, now yes, you give support to this feature once and for all !!!

    Adobe does listen to users, but it listens to 10 users more frequently than 1 user. It listens to 1000 users more frequently than 10. Get everyone you know that works for lawyers to post the request in the Adobe wish form (where Adobe tabulates user requests).

    Then maybe it will appear in Acrobat 11. If it is not in Acrobat 10 by now it is probably too late in the upgrade cycle for it to get in.

  • Search and replace selected text

    Is there a way to have search and replace only look in selected text and not the whole document? My problem is, e.g., in a table, the author used x's instead of checkmarks (our preferred). In Word I could highlight the text, search for X to replace with T (which I then set as WP Iconic font to show the T as a checkmark), then tell it to change all, and the x's would be corrected. I can't find that same command in InDesign and, therefore, have to go through each table and replace the X with a T.
    Also, is there a way to assign the first rows of an existing table as header (repeating) rows? I know how to tell it I want two header rows, but it creates new rows and I have to copy my text into the "header" rows.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro: Cannot copy highlighted text unless I un-highlight the text

    I have highlighted text in a document. When I go to copy that same text, it selects the entire sentence. I right-click, the menu starts with "Set Status." There is no "copy" option. Neither is control-C successful. When I next paste, it pastes a previously selected text, not the text I am attempting to copy in Acrobat. The only way I have found to copy the highlighted text is to un-highlight it, and then copy it. Are there any other solutions?

    Thank you! This works. I pressed "shift," then highlighted the text I want to copy, and right-click (while still holding down "shift" key), and "Copy" finally appears in the menu.

  • How to change the color of letters instead of highlight the text when compare two documents

    I have the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (Versión 9.0.0) and I need to compare two documents, but I want to show the diferences changing  the color of letters instead of highlight the text with any color. My boss tell me that other Acrobat version have this option, but I couldn't find it in this version.
    Could you help me on this topic??

  • Changing focus and highlight of text in item

    Hi
    I have a field that is displaying messages on the form and I do not have it set to display only because this mucks up the custom colour settings of the text required.
    A user can navigate into this field but cannot do anything bar highlight the text. I have set up some code with a go_item in the field to take the focus away from this field if a user clicks in it. This works find but when the focus changes to the new field I have set it highlights the text in that field.
    I do not want the text highlighted, just the cursor to appear at the start of the field.
    Is it possible to suppress the text in the new focus field being highlighted when the focus moves to the new field?

    I've moved it to a field that is non-updateable/deleteable so there's no chance of any data being deleted by mistake (because it's highlighted), although it would still be interesting to note how this might be done if you never had any non-updateable/deleteable fields.

  • Action that finds specified words and highlight the whole sentence or paragraph

    Hi All,
    I know a action file from Acrobat users group (http://acrobatusers.com/content/find-highlight-words-and-phrases) which find and highlight a set of words using Acrobat action. But, is this possible to modify the javascript to select and highlight the "whole sentence" of the word selected? I have no knowledge about javascript, but hope I can learn how to search a word and grab the sentence or even the paragraph that a selected word appears in!

    Thanks for your reply! But can I just extend the selection like a number of words or entire line of sentence before and after that search word for highlight/redaction? like Acrobat advanced search did some kind of result for finding but not wide enough I think.

    Highlighting the text by changing the "character fill color" doesn't seem to go well with double-spacing.
    Has anyone been aware of this issue?
    Try double-spacing the text you highlighted. What's up with this?
    This is so annoying and frustrating. I've been trying to do both of them for like 2-3 hours.
    You CAN do both, of course, but if you double-space the highlighted text, it just creates this huge highlighted part (it highlights the space between the two lines!) below the actual text.
    Anyone help me pleeeeeeeease.

    In Pages v5.2.2, taking Baskerville Regular 12 pt, and double-spacing it with character fill color does produce a nasty effect. With View > Show Rulers, I looked where the lines of text lined up on the vertical scale.
    Then I changed the Spacing selector from Lines to Between. Now, just the text had the character fill color, but the line height had increased visually downward. With the between setting, line height is changed to points, and indicates 27 pt. If you adjust this value to 16 pt, the second line of double-spacing will realign with where it was before the between change, while retaining discrete line character fill color.
    Before: Spacing set to Lines, and 2.0 - Double.
    After: Spacing set to Between, and 16 pt

    I am having a requirement that i has to show the web browser in the output of the basic list and i has to save the text entered in the web browser and not the URL.
    For example.
    if i am displaying the web browser in the basic list of my report.
    i am having a field to give the URL and i will the give the URL as WWW.GOOGLE.COM and press enter, then the web page will be loaded in the basic list. i am entering some text in the search area .
    let the text may be "SAP-ABAP".
    now i has to save the text "SAP-ABAP" in to my database.
    So , if you have any suggestions please reply to this.

    Of course there is not going to be any specific example which has been taylored to your exact requirement, which is why you should be looking outside the box.  The reason I suggested that program is so that you can see how to allow the user to access a web page and enter a value, and then allow the application server to access this value, which of course can then be stored on the database. 
    As for you exact requirement, if you are looking to specifically throw a browser with www.google.com in the browswer and have the user enter a value in the search, and then expect that this value be returned to the application which was entered, I don't see a clean/easy way to do this.  Why? Because once the user is veiwing google in the browser, it is now out of your control, because that page is not running on your server.  Not if google had some API, that would be a different story.

My mac pro is running 10.5.8  and am using itunes 10.4. I can't drag and drop "music" to "playlist" but can right click and get the option to "add to playlist." No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?

    After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

    A PDF usually consists of one to an indefinite number of clipping masks inside each other.
    You need to be very carefull with selecting stuff.
    So you need to read the manual on how to select stuff and on the basics of Illustrator.
    On top of that: because of the complex hierarchy of PDF files, it is kind of difficult to help you without seeing anything.

  • Trouble with viewing font on spine of Photo book.  I can't find a way to view and edit the text which appears on the spine of the dustcover or the book itself when printed.

    I can't find a way to view and edit the text which appears on the spine of the dustcover or the photo book itself.  When I preview the book it appears on the dustcover and the book, but not when I'm back in the creation or editing windows.  I've printed 4 books in a series and two spines are one font size, and two others are a different font size.  One of the books has a shortened title on the book spine.

    The text on the spine will be the same text that is in the Title text box on the title page.  You can change the font and style of that text just like you change any text in Aperture. Aperture will size and center the spine text for you
    If you want the content or the font and style  of the text to be different from your Title box text then you have to trick the program a bit.  Put the text that you want in the spine into the Title text box and then move that box to a place on the page where it will not be visible when printed ( Y coordinate -1.0 inches for example).  Don't move it too far away or it will be hard to get back to in order to make an edit.    Then make a new text box on the title page and put the text you want on the cover in that.  (Or make a book without text on the cover , but with text on the spine). 
    You are 100% correct in that you can not preview this unless you preview the printed book
