Search Drives with incorrect Environmental Variables Win 7

The login script maps a search drive is
MAP S1:=FS_BP\SYS2:BATCH
A batch file will run properly from a command prompt.
When running a batch file from Start | Run there is this error message
Windows cannot find 'Z:.\filename.bat'
The PATH variable shows Z:.
This is a problem in Windows 7 not Windows XP.
The root of the problem is that dot before the slash.
How do I correct this?

Same here - but I never saw this before as I don't use any of the
executables, which are accessible via the path set by the login script.
And the dot after the path (in my case Y:. ) I see, too. But that is
not different from WinXP. Only WinXP is able to open Y:.\xxx.exe,
whereas Win7 only allows Y:\xxx.exe - but it works if you enter
y:.\xxx.exe directly into the run field in Win7, too.
Seems to be a client problem, because if you set the path to e.g. D:.
(a local NTFS drive) entering xxx.exe into the run field starts xxx.exe
from D:\

  • Terminal issues with environmental variables

I am having an issue with persisting environmental variables during a session. I am running an app that requires the sequential running of 3 scripts setenv.sh, build.sh, run.sh.
The first script sets variables that are being used by the other scripts. The script just contains lines like
    "export ADVISOR_HOME=/Applications/Blaze/Advisor65;"
if i add echo the variables name in the script they are set, but immediately after or with env they are gone.
From my understanding (not much) these should persist as long as the window is open. Is there any setting that is being set in OS X that is sandboxing scripts? It would seem to be security-minded but is causing problems.
Also is there any way to temporarily disable the requirement to prefix a command call with ./ in os x. Many of the included scripts are calling methods in the same directory and I am having to alter a lot of scripts to include ./
    Thanks in advance,

Do you mean you echo them from within the script and then they are gone after the script ends? That would be normal. If you want them to persist through the other scripts, you could combine the scripts. The problem is that you're setting them in one process and expecting them to persist in another process. Unless the second is a child of the first, that won't work. I think it would work if you executed the second two scripts from within the first script because they would then be children of the first process. Does that make sense? I'm not sure of the correct terminology here and I can't draw a tree which is what I want to do! Another option might be to source setenv.sh rather than running it (i.e. wouldn't need to be executable) - the same way the shell does when starting up, I think.
From my understanding (not much) these should persist as long as the window is open.
I don't think it has anything to do with windows. It is just when the process exits. If you set such variables at the command line, they'll persist until the window closes because they'll persist until the process exits which is usually when the window closes. At least, in the simplest cases. But it isn't the window staying open or not that's important. It's that everything else done in the window happens to inherit the environment from the parent process. In truth, this often isn't the case anyway, but I expect that's the source of the misunderstanding.
Is there any setting that is being set in OS X that is sandboxing scripts? It would seem to be security-minded but is causing problems.
Nothing special that I know of. There is stuff for something like this in Leopard but you'd have to enable it and I'm not sure it applies here.
Also is there any way to temporarily disable the requirement to prefix a command call with ./ in os x. Many of the included scripts are calling methods in the same directory and I am having to alter a lot of scripts to include ./
You can do this but it is extremely insecure. Essentially, you can add the current directory to PATH. (PATH=$PATH:./; export PATH) It would be much, much better - much, much safer - to edit the scripts. Can you not use sed to edit them? If there is some sort of pattern, there's no need to do it by hand.
If this is an application you plan to share, you should certainly not consider changing PATH in this way unless you are aiming to produce an application with maximum destructive potential! If you don't plan to share, of course, it is your call!

  • Win 7 on Ext drive with Lion

From reading some of the posts it appears you cannot load Win 7 onto a Mac using bootcamp and an external drive.   But- please confirm.
I have an Intel-based iMac (early 2008) and 2 external drives.   I have Snow Leopard installed on the Mac and just installed a copy of that install on  external drive 1.  I partitioned the ext drive for 3 partitions- one for SL, one for Data and one for Win 7 (ideally).   The OS partition is ExFAT.   The other 2 are Mac OS Extended (Journaled).   I can boot from the SL partition from the ext drive with no issue- works just like the internal drive.
The second external drive (EHD2) has 2 partitions- one for Lion and one for data.    I can also boot from that drive with no issue and am currently running the Mac with Lion.
The sequence I would really like to follow is this:
1- set up EHD1 with SL and Win7 and see how it works out.
2- if #1 is working as expected, I would like to erase my internal drive, create 2 partitions (Mac OS and Win7).    I plan to do a clean install of Lion on the OS partition and copy over my apps, etc from the EHD1 SL install.   I am doing the clean install of Lion because the install now on EHD2 has issues- I did not migrate properly.
3-  if that works, then I would like to copy the Win 7 install from EHD1 into the internal partition reserved for Win 7.
End result- I have Lion on my internal drive.   I have SN on an external drive (running older MS Office that I do not want to repurchase for Lion).   And- I can boot into Win7 with either ext or int drives.  If the EHD1 install works well, I may not even move the Win7 install to the internal drive and keep the space available for data.   And I can use the EHD2 for other things, or maybe just as a OS backup.
So- that is what I would LIKE to do.   I would appreciate some advice as to what I CAN do and the right sequence to pursue.    Thanks in advance.   Sorry for such a long post.
    Mark

TH- thanks for the reply.   After I posted this I kept looking around and now I understand.  I did not realize Windows required the internal port.   Another nail in the coffin for Windows vs Mac (IMHO).   I was really amazed at how easy it was to copy a Mac OS image- put on an external drive and boot it.   Felt Windows should be the same.
I erased and did a clean Lion install on my internal drive and placed a Windows partition on it in prep for installing Win 7.   Boot camp gave me the right options- so I should be off to the races.    Thanks again.

PE 13 crashes due to incompatible video driver detected. Running on Win 7 SP1 with ATI 540v video card/driver.  Deleting bad driver file in adobe program data does not fix the problem,  it simply replaces the text file and crashes again.  My video driver is just fine.  Any help out there?

    rb
Your video card driver may be fine for something, but just not compatible with Premiere Elements 13/13.1.
For those with the display card error, the answers include
    a. assure your video card/graphics card driver version is up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card -
if necessary consider a driver roll back.
    b. determine in Device Manager/Display Adapters if the computer is using 2 cards instead of 1
    c. delete the BadDrivers.txt file
the rationale for that deletion is found in post 10 of the following older post...principle applies to 13 as well as 9.
Re: Premiere Elements 9 Tryout Serious Display Problem
Have you looked for computer ATI card settings that might be more compatible with Premiere Elements 13/13.1?
When is the program crashing - just opening a new project or rather crashing if editing a particular video format at the Timeline level?

  • Adobe Reader for mobile search result is INCORRECT.

Adobe Reader for mobile search result is INCORRECT. It is inconsistent with the search results from other PDF reader apps.
I have a spreadsheet file converted into a PDF. Doing a search on the document using a Adobe Reader on a PC shows 14 search results. Opening the same document on the Google Drive app also shows 14 search results. But when opening the same file to the Adobe Reader for Android, it only shows two results. (See screenshots (left/first is from Adobe Reader for Android)).
My device is an Xperia Z2 with Android 4.4.4.

    Hello Mehwish,
It seems that Adobe Reader for mobile has issues only to this file. I have not thoroughly tested it with other PDF files though, but just this 1 out of the 5 files I have tried had issues. Attached herewith is the file I used the search with. Sent a copy to your email [email protected] too.
Note that the file was made from a spreadsheet in a PC and then saved as PDF from the same spreadsheet application.

  • Good News? Audigy with EAX - Working in Win 7 Beta

2Good News? Audigy with EAX - Working in Win 7 Beta} Helo!
First I have instaled the Audigy support pack and my old Audigy MP3+ works fine (in/out, Game port, Creative Audio Console, SoundFont bank manager ) but the EAX console do not run and the EAX in Audio Console have only the enviroments, not the EQ and FX. In other battle I have instaled the Audio HQ of
original installation CD. I stoped the install before the drivers... I want only the Audio HQ working and in the old EAX console I can configure the ENV variables. Then I read a post where I heard speak about the PAX PCI Audigy OS V6.25, well... why not try this too? Run the driver deinstallation and restart.
Then the driver install runs and I see the modem link light indicate a download (?) next the classic blue window of death appear.
Shut down windows and restart and all works fine including the EAX in the Audio Console with ENV, EQ, FX options. The old EAX console works fine and I can configure all the effects. Now only the Creative Game port don't install but I make the Update driver using the one in Audigy support pack and now all works fine.
I hope wich this can help somebody...

  • Using an external hard drive with a Mac and a PC?

I have an external hard drive that I've used with my Windows PC/ itunes / music that I've copied to the PC. Can I use the external hard drive that I use with my Windows PC on my Mac/ itunes / music I've downloaded to my Mac?

    wendybird wrote:

    (1) Any hard drive may fail at any moment. If you don't have a backup for this external hard drive, your pictures are half-gone already.
    (2) If you're trying to make this drive a repository for your music and pics, then its best to format it as FAT32. That's the file system with the widest compatibility, and you'll be able to use the drive with Mac, Win, media players, even TVs with built-in media players. For practicality, it's probably best to keep it attached to a desktop machine and share it on your home LAN for all other devices.

  • [SOLVED] Replacing an existing Arch drive with a new one

I want to swap out my SATA drive with a new one, without reloading anything, nor borking anything..... The original drive is 1TB, and the new HDD is also 1TB, albeit from different manufacturers.
I have WIn 7 in a 256Gb partition, and Arch in the extended partitions worth 750Gb. The drive is a 1 TB drive. (Hitachi)
Arch is my primary OS where I do all my design/cad work and office related stuff. Windows is only used as a gaming platform.
I have been given a NIB 1Tb Seagate Constellation enterprise class drive. It is significantly faster than my existing drive. I wish to switch the drives out.
I am really wanting to avoid a complete reload of both OS's.
My son tells me to use "dd" which I am familiar with, but warns that upon reboot Windows will likely have issues and be very slow.
I have a heavy workload at the moment, and just don't have a day to spend reloading both OS's from scratch.
Is there a better way to image a drive, partition scheme, boot sector, the whole smash (I have a 2TB drive to hold the image) .......R&R the old drive, install the new drive, then have the software then copy back over to the new drive the image with the partitioning scheme and boot sector (syslinux) without borking anything up in either OS?
Assistance is greatly appreciated. I have not needed to do this before...and I'm nervous.
    Thank You!
    Sincerely and respectfully,
    Dave

FWIW, check if your new drive is one meant for the newer 4K sectors.  If so, you should only blindly dd it if the old drive was also set up this way.  If not, then you may need to align the copied data to the 4K sectors, or set up the partitions on the new drive appropriately.  (Western Digital, for example, has an align tool that buzzes through the drive edging everything over to align properly.  If you don't do this and your drive is copied out of alignment, then you can get some slowdown.)
Quite possibly not an issue for you, and there's more to it than I've typed.  It's not hard to do right if needed.  GParted can partition on the correct boundaries, and clonezilla quite possibly is aware as well (I haven't looked). You just need to see if your drives are set up as advanced format (or whatever it's called) and copy accordingly if needed.
I only mention this because there are currently mixed drive types out there and a surprising number of people don't know anything about this and might be taken by surprise.

  • How do I unlock My Documents folder in the hard-drive with another PC?

I have a 3000 series j100 desktop, 3 days ago restarted on its own and can't boot anymore, no keyboard, no mouse and no monitor signal sent from the pc.
I took the drive out and use it as an external drive to my laptop, but it asks for a password before I can access My Documents folder.
I believe it's the windows xp login password that's needed, but there's no field on that pop-up box to enter any password it asks.
I know my windows login password, but I don't know if that's what really needed and how to use it to unlock the folder.
Is there another way to access the folder, or do I need to get the computer working again to access the folder in the drive?
I also do have some encrypted files inside My Documents folder that I created with windows when the pc was working.
The encryption comes along with windows xp. When you right-click a file, you choose properties and advance option then apply the encryption, then the file name turns color to green.
Could it be the reason I can't access My Documents folder in the drive with another pc?
Please help, I need to know if I need to do a recovery job or is there an easy way to access My Documents folder in the drive with another computer.

  • Issues With CS4 Installation on Win 8?

I purchased CS4 (Web Premium) on  disc several years ago, and it has been working fine on my  Win XP computer ever since. The Adobe software has all the current  updates, though I am using the CS4 version of Acrobat Pro (9.xx) rather  than a more recent (free) version of Reader.,
Unfortunately,  my computer's hard drive has fried, and I just purchased a new Windows 8  machine, which will arrive shortly.  I am trying to determine:
    1. Are there any general issues with CS4 installation on Win 8 that I should know about in advance?
    2. Are there specific procedures (de-activation?) that I need to follow BEFORE attempting the installation on the new computer?
    3. Other than specific user issues, are there problems with CS4 versus Windows 8 that I would not encounter with Windows 7.
I  enhance photos and create web sites for a living, so the CS4  installation is mission-critical. I am hoping I did not make a mistake  in ordering a Win 8 machine...
Thanks for any and all insights.

OK, fair enough. Maybe someone who has actually experienced this situation (CS4 --> Win 8 machine) might see this and offer some tips to avoid hassles. But I will try the install as soon as I get the new machine and post any ensuing issues/problems here.
As for de-activation of the previous installation on the XP machine, that is now impossible, as the hard-drive is fried. Unless there is a way to de-activate an installation some other way (without actually opening the programs).  That said, I AM able to access files on the fried harddrive, so if there is a specific file that controls de-activation, I could access it on the old machine.  However, I may not be able to actually RUN said file on that machine, but can copy it to a stick and move it elsewhere. So, any thoughts on deactivation of an installation on a deceased computer?

  • External Hard Drive with Snow Leopard/Windows 7

I just bought a 500GB external HD that I would like to be able to use with Snow Leopard AND Win 7. I won't be using it for any Time Machine backups. I just want to be able to read/write files on it with both Leopard and Win 7.
Is there any recommended format procedures in order to be able to do this. I may be wrong, but I don't think I can read/write to my external Time Machine external hard drive with my Windows lap top running Win 7.

a TM drive must be formatted mac os extended and windows can't even read that without extra software like Mac Drive. It also requires that the partition scheme be GUID which it's most likely not at the moment so repartition the drive with correct partition scheme now if you do decide to use it for TM in the future. also, snow bootcamp drivers once you install them in windows will let you red (but not write) to mac os extended formatted drives.
the only FS which is natively read+write from both OS X and windows is FAT. but it's very old and has many deficiencies especially on the OS X side.
    but it's good for interoperability.
or you can format the drive NTFS and use some software like NTFS-3g or NTFS for mac by paragon to make it writable from OS X.
you may also wish to split the drive in two partitions and format them differently.

  • SAP Gateway- environmental variables not loaded when running brconnect

    Hello
i have installed the Sap gateway on MSCS
and the RFC check in sm59  is successful,
However when i run a job in db13 it fails with "brconnect is not recognized as ......... "
<sid>adm has all environmental variables set correctly
    SAPService<SID> has them too
when i run  brconnect on OS level it works fine with <sid>adm and SAPService<SID>
however if create a brconnect.cmd file where i specify the command as
    SET ORACLE_SID= ....
    SET SAPDATA_HOME=....
    C:\windows\sapcluster\brconnect.exe ...........
and run it in sm69 it works fine
Any ideas how to solve this, seems the variables are not taken when running sapxpg
, i don't want to edit the SDBAC for every  command
    P.S
set from sm69 returns only the system wide variables, however i have the two systems on this host, and can not make the environmental variables for ORACLE_SID and SAPDATA_HOME system wide as this will cause problem with the other sap system
Edited by: Yavor Markov on Apr 12, 2010 6:07 PM

    Hi Markov,
Can you tell us with which user id you have installed SAP as well as check the sap services are running with which user id, if it is not <sid>adm then you have to check the environment variables of that user.
Also you can try adding c:\windows\sapcluster in PATH environment variable.

  • Best External Hard Drive with Mavericks Compatibility?

What is the best external hard that's compatible with Mavericks OS X 10.9? I've read about all the problems with the WD drive and am looking for a good alternative. Thanks

    justineppie
Justin, your new HD needs to be formatted for Time Machine in Mac OSX Extended Journaled.
    peter915
Seagate backup plus all the way.  It works on both Windows and Mavericks . Download Paragon NTFS driver
.....Peter, incorrect, Time Machine cannot communicate THRU Paragon, it has to be Mac OSX Ext. Journaled formatted,
    1. There is no such entity as "backup plus", its just a mfg. name given to a HD, it doesnt designate anything.
Terms such as:    "WD Passport, Expansion drive, Seagate Backup Plus, PC hard drive, Mac hard drive, Free agent, backup drive, Passport plus, Elements, Toshiba Canvio, Slim, ultraslim, pocket drive, Touro" etc. etc. ........all these terms,...they dont designate or mean anything.
    2. Any HD will work with PC or Mac
    3. Paragon is for use with a NTFS drive for use with a Mac to communicate with a PC NTFS formatted HD....., not however for Time Machine to do a backup.
    justineppie
For using your new HD for Time machine format it ..... >
    Go to .... > Finder > Go >  Utilities > DISK UTILITY
    enter DISK UTILITY
Format (erase) it in "mac osx Extended journaled"
see from mine below, HD on left selected,   .......ERASE tab highlighted.... and middle right roughly, it says "MAC OSX EXTENDED JOURNALED"
thats the format,  but yours may be different of course
bottom right ERASE tab lets you erase/ FORMAT your external as you like (remember this erases all data ON THE HD)
highlighted in RED   Erase.......format (middle) ...........erase ACTION to Erase/Format (bottom)
To show your HD on your desktop
go into FINDER at top then PREFERENCES  then GENERAL tab
then check "hard disks" and "external disks"
    FORMAT TYPES
    FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.

Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
    Maximum file size: 16 TB
    Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.

    Read/Write HFS+ from native Mac OS X
Required for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backups of Mac internal hard drive.
To Read HFS+ (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer
    Maximum file size: 8EiB
    Maximum volume size: 8EiB
You can use this format if you only use the drive with Mac OS X, or use it for backups of your Mac OS X internal drive, or if you only share it with one Windows PC (with MacDrive installed on the PC)
    EXFAT (FAT64)
Supported in Mac OS X only in 10.6.5 or later.
Not all Windows versions support exFAT.
    exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table)
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support exFAT
    Maximum file size: 16 EiB
    Maximum volume size: 64 ZiB
You can use this format if it is supported by all computers with which you intend to share the drive.  See "disadvantages" for details.
