SEARCH FUNCTION IN DISCUSSION GROUP & JULY 11th!!!

Why the **** would APPLE disable the SEARCH function in the Discussion Support Section on what has to be one of their most important day's of the year? They know people will have trouble with the iphone 3g and the other products (I love the iphone...just saying it's a bad time to eliminate such an important feature). Instead of loading the Apple support phone lines and waiting for hours (because people don't want to talk to someone in India or Pakistan for support) people turn to these discussion groups to find quick answers.
I also think they over promised way too much on Friday, July 11th. Their products are no longer just released in the US...it's around the WORLD. I think they need to release it one thing at a time instead of promising too much on one day...Look at the following for July 11th....
1, Release iphone 3g (have to go into the store and activate the phone..big waste of time) (maybe do a lottery online or set up appointments)
2. Release the Applications Store (they could have released it a week or two later or earlier)
3. Release the iphone 2.0 upgrade (could have done the same as #2)
4. They disable the SEARCH FUNCTION in their Support Discussions Group (bad move on such a big day!!)
Not to happy with how APPLE management is working with their consumers. I like to hear your thoughts.

Tamara's response is correct. She has been here at other times when the search function has been disabled.

It wasn't to keep people from posting, it was to make sure this remained available for posting technical issues. In addition the level or reputation indicators under names are also disabled.
Please keep in mind that a polling is outside the Terms of Service for Apple Discussions.

When I 'Tab Groups,' the search function immediately pops up (and it won't go away) every time, preventing me from accessing my grouped tabs. How can I prevent this from happening?

Using Firefox 5.0 with Windows 7 on a laptop, whenever I click the 'Group Tabs' icon to the right of my tabs, the search function immediately comes up over my grouped tabs, preventing me from using any of them. When the search function comes up, the screen goes semi-dark and the search bar appears - any text I type at this time is entered into the search bar (the search function works normally). If I click any section of the screen at this time the search function disappears and the screen regains color - but only for a fraction of a second, and then the search function comes up again, along with the darkened screen. Hitting 'escape' or 'backspace' produces the same effect. Is there any way to disable this unceasing search function?

This is something you need to report via the Feedback button (or use the link on the Help menu).
Firefox 5.0 is still in BETA and not slated for release until June 21.
Reinstall the full version of the current release which is v4.0.1, download link at the top of this forum.

The search function has been temporarily turned off. This has been done in order to improve performance after a huge number of people started posting in the iPhone forums. There is an announcement on the main page that goes here:

Searching in discussion groups

At this moment 6 discussion groups, dealing with IAS and portal are active. In most cases it's clear in which forum to post, in some others it isn't.
Imagine questions about the style of a portlet of a content area.
Before I post a question, I try (at least most of the time) to find an answer in older threads, but now I have to search several forums on technet (and those on metalink). A search on all technet forums takes too long.
Is it possible to create a search option which allows us to search all portal forums?

I agree. I'm sure you know this anyway, but you can search ALL discussion groups, plus (I think) searching on metalink also searches thru the discussion grps

Grouping words in preview search function for PDFs

Hi there,
I'm looking to see if anyone can help me with the search function in preview. I would like to change the search function so that I can search an entire phrase rather than the individual words. For example, when I read business reports I might want to jump straight to the income statement, so I enter "income statement" in the search box. But instead of searching for the phrase "income statement", it shows all results for both "income" and "statement", giving me about 500 matches. Is there a way I can change this so that when I search for a phrase it only shows results for the entire phrase and not each word? Thanks.

Infopath form for sharepoint 2013 lags when searching for person or group.

Dear all,
After implementing a infopath form on sharepoint, the search for person or group column lags when I search for someone the second time. (The first time won't lag). Is there a fix to this? And is there a way to modify the search for person or group function
to sharepoint OOTB person or group search? I think the OOTB one is a lot better. Thanks all.

Advanced search function

hi,
i am very interested in japanese music but i don't know how to search for that kind of music. i don't know any japanese singer so i can't search for them. i also cannot search for "japanese music" because such a group doesn't exist in the search-function. i find a lots of chinese singers by the way because i knew some and when i searched for them, there where also listed many others. can you give me some names from japanese singers or tipps how to find them in the store?
i also like chinese and japanese music from movies but i also don't know how to search for. if i look for "soundtracks" then results are too much to search for some soundtracks from asia. can you give me some tipps how to find this too in your shop?

1.) yes the stores are different for each country, and the diffenece is not "just" the language…
But switching to the Japaneese store (at the bottom of the Home page) might help in your case, since you seem to be interested in any kind of Japaneese music — but: be prepared… (see below…)
2.) the "Browse" link Dave Sawyer was referring to just leads to the world music genre, which does not at all cover all possible, and not even the useful combinations.
For instance, I was/am looking for French Funk, Disco and Soul music in general (as you can read in http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4269954#4269954), but the iTunes store's advanced search feature doesn't have a "language" field (yet).
So, in the mean time, I use the workaround I mentionned there, or I just search in Google, Youtube et al.
Because switching to another store does not lead you to a "local/national music" compilation — you find the exact same artists as in the U.S. store, maybe with regional preferences…
In the German store, you can find a "Musikreise durch Europa", which is a musical journey through europe. Good, very good. But it only includes what the managers realized, today it is Italian classic, Swedish pop, Norwegian Jazz, French hiphop, Dutch rock and "Balkan Soul"… As I wrote, good, but not helpful for me.

Search function in DPS

Hey there,
I was wondering if there was a possibility to add a HTML search function inside the indesign DPS file.
We're currently working more and more with HTML features and it's kind of hard to know what eventually works and what doesn't.
At our agency we're "simple" graphic designers, we're not programmers. And since we're very bust, there isn't much time to expermint with somethinh that maybe won't work in the end. I think we all know that feeling ;-)
For some clients it's hard to tell what they exactly want and when they need to switch to XCODE for example.
And for us it's hard to say what's possible and what's not possible. We of course would like to keep as much as possible inside of indesign.
But the line of when to switch to full HTML/XCODE is really thin...
It has happend before that you start working on project an everything has been layed out, and one guy comes running into a meeting and says.
"Can't you add a search function? Or a function that exports pdf's? I've seen the app for XXXXX and they had it!"
For a client that works with a large productrange it sure would be nice if a search function could be integrated,
And it would also be handy if pdf's could be generated from a DPS app.
Can this be done? And is there a way to tell what's "DPS fiction" and "DPS non fiction"?

Hi Kevin,
MEI's Nervous Pixel division created search capabilities for the Sotheby's app. Our team worked to make the experience straightforward, but also easy for the design team to implement on a folio by folio basis. What is nice about that specific search approach is that it allows you to provide a search that gives greater context than just a word in a paragraph. In Sotheby's case, this allows them to return search results that reference a specific lot within their auction catalog with a preview of the piece and other important details.
MEI has created a number of custom functions for customers. In your second example regarding a PDF, there are a number of options that could be considered depending on the use case.

What does this mean. The contribution appear to be lost.

Hi Lanky10, welcome to the forums,
if I understand your experience correctly it may be due to the forum time out which I believe is set to 20 minutes; no activity such as clicking on a thread will end your session so as not to distort the members online statistics.
Usually an indicator if this is when the Autosave function throws a message that "an action could not be completed", (or similar). What happens if you go back to the same point to re-post, is there a message similar to the one illustrated below? If yes please select load.

RH9 Webhelp Search function is not working properly

Hi,
My organization is using RH9 for a Webhelp project. My company and our client are restricted to using IE9 for the online help I have created for this project, and our OS environment is Windows 7. When I generate using the Webhelp layout, with the TOC, Index and Search options chosen, my resulting browser window shows two frames. Left for the Contents/Index/Search and right for the content. In the left panel, there are three links at the top for Contents, Index and Search. When I click on the Search link, the only thing I see is the alphabet A-Z (which are links to filter items beginning with these letters (much like the index link) and a list of what I would say is garbage. For example, if I click on H, I see items like "half 1 2 3" or "held" or "honor # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8", etc. If I run my cursor down this list, I notice that maybe the word honor is a link. If clicked it brings up one of my topic pages. I can also click on the random numbers that appear, like clicking on 3 it brings up another topic page. The search function does not allow me to type in a search criteria, since there is no search field as well.
Do you have any suggestions for this issue? Is this a bug, or do I need to change settings somewhere within RH9? The same thing is happening when using this help project that is running on our clients server. Is there any suggestion you can give to try and make this work properly?

Rick, Thanks for stepping in. I assumed that was the reason why I was not receiving the search field, and that is fine for now. We have discussed with our client the possibility of having two different help projects one for each, but that decision was kind of put on the back burner.
However, the other issue I am having is still there and I don't quite understand why. Since I only have clickable A-Zs for the search, and it lists links much like the Index section, I'm still seeing lists of just numbers and characters (i.e., "# 1 2 3 4 5", or "%" or "& 1 2 3 4 5" sometimes all the way up to 18 or so). And each of these characters or numbers are clickable links as well to either page that doesn't contain that number or to nothing.
Doing a bit more research, I have noticed that a lot of these links are being picked up by the PDF file we have as part of the project. Our help project has a link to the documented version of the help in the form of a User Guide.pdf file. So the search is listing items from that guide like the heading numbers 1.0, 1.0.1, etc. Also each of these are clickable links that go nowhere. But then there is still the numbers 1, 2, etc that go to pages that don't have this anywhere on the page.
Do you have any insight as to why these types of things are being listed under Search at all? They make that selection look very messy and unorganized. Not professional at all. I have checked and tested the properties settings and can't seem to find what is causing this to happen. Any idea would be most appreciated!!

When an album has multiple artist how can you make them show up on an iPod Touch 4G? I can find an artist using the search function but they don't show up in the artist view on my iPod. iTunes shows them OK when you sort by artist.

Tech support seemed to understand the question but had no answer. Why would an album with only one artist show the artist but an album with multiple artist not show any of them. The album art show various in iTunes. That makes sense but on my iPod I would expect to see all artists.

Wish I did. I tried the group function but that didn't help in iTunes. The search function is the best I came up with. I can answer the question do you have susch and such artist. But I can't browse for an artist I don't remember exactly or have misspelled. Fortunately I don't think I've bought anything from iTunes that i already had. If you can't see an artist it's possible you think you don't have something you actually do have. Sorry, still hoping for a better work around or better yet a fix.

In OS Yosemite the search function in Mail, Finder, Spotlight- does not work

In OS Yosemite the search function in Mail, Finder, Spotlight… does not work. Messages or documents with the search criteria are there and one could find them manually, but the search function fails to find them. Following advice from Apple Support (728965377):
1. I applied an Apple protocol for adware removal (Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac); I had none, because I had formally utilized a similar protocol that I had found in Internet, actually an app that implemented automatically Apple's adware removal protocol.
2. I rebuild the post boxes in Mail (Mail (Yosemite): Reconstruir buzones); It took a while but it functioned properly
3. I re-install the System (OS X Yosemite: Reinstalar OS X); It took about 4 hours but there was no problem whatsoever with the installation.
Afterwards I searched for messages in Mail, and documents in Finder and Spotlight, without any difficulty. The search function in all of them was working properly. But the next time that I needed to search messages or documents, an hour later or so, the problem reappear and a couple of new issues occurred:
1. in app RagTime 6.5.2 (Build 1821), www.ragtime.de, the menu bar disappears (it is invisible), when one performs certain operations, e. g., calculating a value with a formula, whether it is in a spreadsheet or some other component (text, drawing, etc.). After touching with the cursor the menu bar is visible again.
2. after reading an e-mail in Mail or copying an address, this is seeing as a floating object in the finder and over every application. There is no logical way to get rid of the floating object and neither copying or deleting or cutting it. It is not a big issue but nonetheless bothersome.
3. In Mail, messages with Flag or in VIP contacts cannot be seen in the appropriate folders, only in the Incoming mail folder, together with other messages. It seems to me, this issue is part of same search function problem.
4. The preview function within Mail does not show the attached documents to a message, whether it is in the IN, OUT or Draft boxes.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try again to re-index Spotlight. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Search function in DW to flag stray /div tags?

This seems like a very basic question, but searching the site, the discussion threads, and the FAQs didn't produce any answers. Does Dreamweaver have a search function -- or an alternative Validate function for CSS -- to pick up stray </div> tags? I've got a page with one </div> too many or too few, doubtless due to a slight selection oversight on a copy/paste I made from another source. The page is rendering with elements flopping into the wrong places, or disapperaing entirely, so I'm sure it's an odd </div> somewhere; but I'm just not up to eyeballing 500 lines of code right now, trying to figure out where there's an imbalance in <div> and </div> pairs. It seems like a natural job for automation. Thanks.

The search function on my "sent" mail does not work - can anyone help?

The search function on my "sent" mail does not work. When I type in more than two letters into the saerch box - the sent mail screen goes blank. Any ideas how to fix this? Apple technical support has not been much help for the past five days...
