Search text in Long column

Hi All,
I want to search those views whose text contains a word 'PATIENT'. I queried DBA_VIEWS, but the text column is of Long datatype, so it is not accepting the following query:
select owner, view_name, text from dba_views where text like '%PATIENT%';
Is there any other way out to get such data??
Thanks,
Api

But what about the mviews?? It doesn't work with dbms_metadata.get_ddl..Why not?:
SQL> create materialized view mv_emp

  • Text search query into long column

    hi,
    I need some explanation about this situation:
    I need to perform a search into a long column containing XML file. Not all records found match my search criteria.
    If I search in a varchar column it seem to be correct, so have you any suggest for me?
    thanks in advance,

    I'm working with Oracle8i version 8.1.7
    realese 3.
    This is an example of query that I'm using:
    select *
    from <table>
    where contains (<column>, <string>, 0) > 0
    where <column> is of type Long and <string>
    is the text to search. At the moment I don't need to apply any score filter.
    I've generated the index on this table as suggested by documentation:
    create index <index_name> on <table>(<column>) indextype is ctxsys.context;
    Thanks in advanced,

  • Tables in Buzzword: header appearing on all pages, text in long columns disappearing,

    Hello,
    I prefer to use tables within a Buzzword document rather than in a free standing table document.  My appolgies for the descriptions, I do not know the correct terminology for the document types so I am just making them up on the fly.
    My tables are something of a mess.  In Buzzword I can not find the menu to have the header repeated from page to page?  Any guidance would be welcome.
    In my long columns the text disappears between pages, such that the next row on the next page is not a continuation of the previous row but rather the next row?  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Best,

    Hello there,
    Thank you for posting to the Buzzword forum. I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to, but when you choose Insert > Header... in Buzzword, the information you choose to display at the top of each page will automatically repeat on every page; you also have the option to insert a different header on the first page of the document. Unfortunately, if you're referring to a header within the table, there isn't currently any way to automatically repeat that information from page to page. We are aware of demand for this feature, and will continue to work on it, with the goal of eventual implementation.
    As to your other issue - the issue of disappearing text in a long column - that seems like it could use more specific attention; however, most Adobe employees are not here this week (in honor of the holiday), and so I'm afraid I must ask you to wait until next week for troubleshooting. Thank you very much for your patience! I will pass this bug along to the engineering team for inspection as soon as I can.
    Kind regards,
    Rebecca

  • Is there a way to Search (List search) for more then one field text from a column for Bulk uploading?

    I've been trying to find more information on this and I apologies if this has already been answered. I just don't know the correct way to ask this. We have a SharePoint List at the company that we have people input information into different columns. The
    problem is most of those information are very repetitive. Is there a way for me to search more then one field text in the column and just input that same information in?
    ex:
    Column 1
    Column 2
    Date:
    883851
    MidWest
    User input
    8831518
    MidWest
    User input
    On the search field in the SharePoint List, I would need to search for 883851, 8831518 etc,  would view those requested numbers, then I would click edit and change dates to those rows. Does that make sense? I'm sorry I'm fairly new at sharepoint.

    I think what you're asking is about having repetitive options in a list, show up easily for new items being created.
    This can be done by setting the columns that contain repetitive information to Choice fields.  In the configuration of the Choice field, check the box for "Allow custom values".  Now as users are entering data into the list, the dropdown of options
    for a given field grows and users can quickly see and select previously entered and thus repetitive values for the given fields.
    I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks
    C

  • Newbie - My site changes to one long column after uploading to server

    I have to create a website to international students in our
    uni, but I have never done this before so I decided it would be
    better to use a template and change the text etc... The problem is:
    In the template (which came with Dreamweaver 8) there is one column
    on the left with some links, One wider column in the centre with
    space to add an image, and another column on the right, similar to
    the one on the left. So I just added some sample text and uploaded
    the site to the server to test it. Now when I load the page in my
    web browser (
    http://intstu.byethost31.com/intstu1.html)
    I get no columns but just one long column... Can anyone explain
    what I am doing wrong!
    Thanks a lot!

    > Can anyone explain what I am doing wrong!
    For one thing you are using one of the CSS layouts in DW.
    Unless you are
    very comfortable with CSS and HTML, this was a mistake. Those
    layouts are
    fiddly and flaky.
    For another, it doesn't look like you have uploaded the
    stylesheet -
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="3col_leftNav.css"
    type="text/css" />
    Did you?
    Really, I suggest you start again, and find a template more
    suited to a)
    normal use, and b) your skill level. I'd start here -

  • SS7 to 8i on NT (Text to Long)

    When I map the SQL Server Text columns to and Oracle CLOB or Varchar2 type everything works like a charm.
    When I map from SS7 Text to Oracle Long the migration workbench constantly crashes! Half of the time with an 6fbf6ener7cx error :] the other half POOF it disappears?
    FYI there is not more than one Long column per table. Any suggestions would be appricated.
    Thanks
    Will

    Oracle should make your users aware of this! Using CLOBs is not an option for us. They are not managable for searching and updating and require Nth amount of coding changes to make the migration from SQL to Oracle using them. We need a solution yesterday and CLOBs are not the anwser. Can somebody from the Oracle organization email me personally so we can resolve this. Is Oracle phasing out the LONG datatype what's the problem here. I don't feel I should have to code functionality that should be provided this tool. :]

  • Text wrap effects text in different columns differently

    In InDesign CS4, if you have a 2-column text box and a graphic with a text wrap that spans from one column into another, the text wrap will offset the text in the two columns by different amounts if the graphic is aligned with the top of the text box. That shouldn't happen; the very same text wrap on the very same graphic should offset the text in the two columns by the same amount. But it doesn't. The baselines will not line up from column to column.
    Clearly you can get around this if you snap to a baseline grid. But what if you don't want to use baseline grid? Is there a way to get the text wrap to offset the text in both columns equally?
    I have attached a screen capture to demonstrate the problem. In this case, the baselines align, but the text wrap is clearly affecting the text in the left column and not affecting the text in the right column, even though they are aligned on the same baseline! Any suggestions?

    You're right, it shouldn't happen, but it's a long-standing bug (or feature).  One workaround is to use a baseline grid. Another is to adjust the wrap offset so that it matches the baseline in the opposite column. Another way is to not design so a wrapped object blocks the full width of one column but not it's neighbor. It doesn't matter where you have the wrapped object -- if it completely blockst the top of one column and leaves a any space at the top in an adjacent column where text will fit, you'll get the potential for unbalanced baselines.
    The reason it happens is that in a column where text can reach the top, the baseline for the first line is controlled byt he first baseline settings in the text frame options. If the text can't reach the top of the column the positioning is controlled by the depth of the object and any additional offset for the wrap.

  • How to find out the length of a LONG column?

    How can I find out the length of a LONG column, I should write a stored procedure which will return me the length of a LONG column passed as an argument to it!
    any ideas or suggestions? please respond, i need this urgently, or you can mail me at [email protected]
    thanks,

    Actually a LONG variable in PL/SQL maxes out at 32K, so this would not be accruate. If you are running Oracle 8+, you could do a conversion to LOB which will give you an accurate length. Note, this example needs a table created to hold the converted lob value, you can't do it directly in pl/sql:
    create table lobhold
    (templob clob);
    declare
    mylength number;
    begin
    execute immediate 'insert into lobhold select to_lob(text) from equipment_notes where equipment_id=1448';
    select dbms_lob.getlength(templob) into mylength
    from templob;
    dbms_output.put_line(mylength);
    execute immediate 'truncate table lobhold';
    end;

    Yong Huang

    I notice Google can convert it to plain text:

    (If that long URL doesn't work, just search for "understanding shared pool" and click "View as HTML".)
    For now I'll use that. Thanks everyone.
    Also, my local desktop search program Copernic can also index keywords in the article.

    It's still called the document conversation agent on Linux. I would set off
    an indexing run to see if it kicks it all off properly. My PDFs have been
    indexing here for a good long time :)

    >
    But then why will the problem happen with this long string ?
    >
    You don't have a 'long string'. You have a lot of single-quoted strings combined with some unquoted strings.
    There are embedded singel quotes in what you call 'this long string'.
    Try using a different string delimiter so that the quotes do not cause a problem.
    You can use an exclamation point ('!') since there is none in the text you provided.
    Here is an example of what will not work because there is one embedded single quote
    'name LIKE '%DBMS_%%'This is the same value using exclamation as the delimiter - this works because there is no exclamation in the string
    q'!name LIKE '%DBMS_%%'!'1. q must be the first character
    2. ' (single quote) must be the next character
    3. ! (or any delimiter you choose) is the next character
    4. abcdefg. . . -- this is your string that can include single quotes but not an exclamation point
    5. ! is the next to last character - must be the same delimiter used as the third character
    6. ' (single quote) is the last character
    See the 'Text Literals' section of the SQL Reference for more examples
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/sql_elements003.htm
    Note that this one will not work because the string includes the percent
    This is the same value using exclamation as the delimiter - this works because there is no exclamation in the string
    q'%name LIKE '%DBMS_%%'%'

  • Select LONG column into CLOB variable

    Hi all,
    I am trying retrieve the data present in a LONG column into a CLOB variable.
    However I am getting an error, pls let me know how I can resolve it.
    DECLARE
    v_text CLOB;
    BEGIN
    SELECT TO_LOB(trigger_body)
    INTO v_text
    FROM
    user_triggers
    WHERE
    ROWNUM <= 1;
    END;
    ERROR at line 8:
    ORA-06550: line 8, column 20:
    PL/SQL: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got LONG
    ORA-06550: line 8, column 5:
    PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
    Let me know if there is an alternate to this. I would like to get the data present in the LONG column into a variable.
    The reason why I am not retrieving the LONG column into LONG variable is stated below (from Oracle Website):
    You can insert any LONG value into a LONG database column because the maximum width of a LONG column is 2**31 bytes.
    However, you cannot retrieve a value longer than 32760 bytes from a LONG column into a LONG variable.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Somu

    There are couple of things I did (listed in order):
    1) Create Global Temporary Table containing a CLOB column
    2) Select LONG column and convert to CLOB by using TO_LOB and insert into Global Temporary Table containing a CLOB column
    2) Select from this Global Temporary Table (which already contains data in CLOB) and assign it to a CLOB variable.
    This is done because you can not directly use TO_LOB in a select statement to assign the value to a CLOB variable.
    Stated below is an example:
    -- Create Temporary Table
    CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE glb_tmp_table_lob(
    time TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE,
    text CLOB
    ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS;
    -- PL/SQL Block to Execute
    DECLARE
    v_clob CLOB;
    BEGIN
    -- Insert into Temporary Table by converting LONG into CLOB
    INSERT INTO glb_tmp_table_lob (
    time ,
    text
    SELECT
    sysdate ,
    TO_LOB(dv.text)
    FROM
    dba_views dv
    WHERE
    ROWNUM <= 1
    -- Select from the Temporary table into the variable
    SELECT
    gt.text
    INTO
    v_clob
    FROM
    glb_tmp_table_lob gt;
    COMMIT;
    -- Now you can use the CLOB variable as per your needs.
    END;
