Searching for a genius

I'm doing this third year project and fast running out of time. All I need now is a board representation. Can someone please tell me that it is possible to paint an Object (say a red counter) on a jpg or gif? I know zilch about graphics so could someone please inform me how to place an object on a jpg background, then for it to disappear and reappear somewhere else? If I could get that far then I would be able to finish off my networked board game in under an hour. This is the part that I've put on the long finger and I've come to the best for guidance. I've read some of the stuff posted here and you guys are unbelievable!

try this:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class MoveIt extends JFrame
public MoveIt()
     addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter()
          public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e)
               dispose();
               System.exit(0);
     setSize(700,400);
     Board board = new Board();
     getContentPane().add(board);
     board.setLayout(null);
     Planet pl1 = new Planet("f1.gif");
     pl1.setBounds(20,20,100,100);
     board.add(pl1);
     Planet pl2 = new Planet("f2.gif");
     pl2.setBounds(220,220,100,100);
     board.add(pl2);
     setVisible(true);
public class Board extends JPanel
     Image img;
public Board()
     img = getToolkit().getImage("usa.gif");
     MediaTracker tracker = new MediaTracker(this);
     tracker.addImage(img,0);
     try   {tracker.waitForID(0);}
     catch (InterruptedException e){}
public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
     super.paintComponent(g);
     g.drawImage(img,0,0,null);
public class Planet extends JLabel
     int mx,my;
public Planet(String name)
     super(new ImageIcon(name));
     addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter()
     {     public void mousePressed(MouseEvent m)
               mx   = m.getX();
               my   = m.getY();
     addMouseMotionListener(new MouseMotionAdapter()
     {     public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent m)
               int x = getX() + m.getX() - mx;
               int y = getY() + m.getY() - my;
               setLocation(x,y);
public static void main(String[] args)

  • I can't search for apps in App Store why not? Genius still works but not search?

    Why can't I search for apps but can still use genius?

    I have same issue. It will let me know to update apps.
    But if I want to search an app my friend may have. Nothing comes up after typing it in the search bar.
    Same with the featured apps or the star charts , nothing comes up.
    Now I just updated my iPad and so far so good. But my iPhone 4S is the problem since upgrading to ios6.
    What to do.....
    Apple...... You shouldn't rush these things.... Take your time and make it right .....
    Any ideas .. Guess we just have to wait for apple to fix the issue...

  • How do I search for apps that work on my iPod Touch Generation 1 (Version 3.1)?

    I have the original iPod Touch and I want to give it to my toddler to play with... so I can have my phone back!  The problem is I cannot find apps that work on the older operating system 3.1.3.  Is there a way to search for them?
    Thanks!

    When you make a playlist it makes a "shortcut" of the file, not a copy of it and the size is so tiny it takes about 10,000 to make 1 mb. It doesn't make a duplicate. It just makes the song appear in a playlist too. Make sure you have the latest iTunes, make sure genius is on, and click Store, update genius. then sync iPod. If you still have a problem, please write wore info about the computer you have. Find all of this (on a PC) click start, run, type winver, then hit enter. (For Mac) Click apple icon (top-left), abou this mac.

  • How do I search for songs and artists within playlists?

    In the Itunes music app on the Ipod touch there are several views (Songs, Playlists, Genius, Artists, etc.) In song view if you swipe down it reveals the search bar. However when you go to Playlist view and choose a specific playlist there is no search bar or option anywhere to search for a specific song, artist, genre etc.
    So how the heck do we search within playlists, where is the search bar or where is the option to search in a specific playlist?

    Top right hand corner of the store is the search bar. Just type it in, and it shows up.

    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and sign out and sign back in.
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

  • Why does the App Store on my iPod kick me out when I try to search for an app?

    The App Store on my iPod touch keeps kicking me out when I try to search for an app or when I go to genius. I updated to ios6 today and this hasn't happened before. What can I do?

    I have the same problem on my iPod Touch 4 (IOS6).  My iPhone 4S (IOS6) works fine.  But the App Store crashes when I hit the Genius bar in App Store.  Apparently other folks are having this same problem.  I've rebooted, but that doesn't help.

  • Re: Itunes 10.3 for windows  I had problems  whereas when I searched for a song I kept getting message "Accessing Itunes Store" when I was already in it I uninstalled and reinstalled latest version  Still having problems

    I had following problem: When I tried to search for a song in the Itunes Store I kept getting message "Accessing Itunes Store" (even though it appeared I was already in the store) Everytime I typed a character in the Search box the Accessing Itunes Store message would pop up
    I was told to uninstall Itunes and Quick time programs and reinstall latest versions, which I have done and now have Itunes 10.3
    I still got same messages so I tried a few things and when I went to my itunes account profile I got message "Requested Resouce not found"
    Don't know where to go from this point.  HELP

    I have the same issue.  I took it the genius bar and called talked to tier 2 phone support. They have standard thing where you uninstall all apple software in a certain order and then reinstall 64bit itunes.  That did nothing (tried it 4 times).
    I've gotten two clues so far.
    One is that at the store if I plug someone else's iphone 4 in then itunes acts the same way. So it is not the phone. Two is tier 2 phone support told me to try syncing it with a fresh user account (an admin one). I did that and itunes was just fine, it did not freeze.
    So there appears to be some conflict with the software, music files, whatever that is on my current user account (also an admin account).  I ran virus and malware detectors and found nothing.  Now I'm going to try putting my music, movies, apps, etc in the new user account and see if the phone will sync then.
    I know its not much but thats where I'm at. I hope it helps.

  • HT5569 My i-touch keeps searching for a wi-fi network where it use to connect and all my other apple devices still connect. I have reset, reload, off and on and off and on....what else could I try?

    My ipod touch just keeps searching for a wi-fi connection in my house where it use to connect automatically. My other apple devices still are connecting so not the wi-fi. I have reset to original settings, turned off-on-off-on... nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Does the iPod connect to other networks?
    Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
    Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device. (I think you did this)
    If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • MIgration Assistant Stalls out on 'Searching for Disk...'

    The main problem here is, I reinstalled Snow Leopard after some acting up by the OS. Backed up ON my main HD and tried to use Migration Assistant to restore the backup. AS of now, every time I load up Migration Assistant, it just stalls on 'Searching for Disk...' and never finds a backup.
    I'll try and make a long story short, my optical drive was acting up so I took it in to the Genius Bar. Luckily, they had a new one in stock and replaced it on the spot. Upon getting my MacBook Pro (2009) back, everything was acting crazy. Lagging, freezing, etc. The genius told me it was normal that things start acting up after installing new hardware and that all I had to do was reinstall Snow Leopard and that before installation, it would ask me if I wanted to backup all my data and that once it was re-installed it would automatically come restore to its previous form. Here's where I think things got a little screwy...
    I was running Snow Leopard but unfortunately when I installed it, it was from a friend's 'family installation' pack, so I didn't have the installation CD at hand. Anxious to get things fixed, I put in my original installation disc that came with my MBP. Looking back, it should've been obvious that downgrading might cause some problems. Booted to disk and I went on to reinstall. Right before the reinstall it asked me if I wanted to backup all my data to restore once the installation was done. Sure enough, it seemed to have worked so I figured all was going well.
    The installation finished and asked me if I wanted to restore from a backup. Of course, hitting yes only gave me an error saying that the backup was created on a newer OS and that I wouldn't be able to restore it on an older OS. I was bummed out but it made sense. Fast forward another day: I call my friend and ask to borrow his Snow Leopard installation disc again. I install it, hoping to see the same, "Restore from Backup" screen at some point, but nothing.
    I noticed right away that I only had 16 GB of HD space left (what it was before any of this madness) but everything looked as if it was brand new. After some clicking around through some folders I found the old backup within some folders so I figured that everything worked fine and Migration Assistant would be a quick and easy fix. From here on, Migration Assistant can never seem to get past the loading screen. All I see is, "Searching for Disk" and an eternally spinning circle.
    Am I missing something? I've repaired disk partitions and done plenty of searching online. Am I just going to have to setup everything manually again? Thanks.
    -Raul

    Wow. Sorry, but you've made a major mess.
    I was running Snow Leopard but unfortunately when I installed it, it was from a friend's 'family installation' pack,
    That's a violation of the license. The +*family pack+* may be installed on up to 5 Macs in the same household. You need to buy your own copy of Snow Leopard.
    It sounds like the prompt you got form the Leopard disc was to +Preserve Users and settings.+ That's an +Archive and Install+ of Leopard. If so, there should be a +Previous System ...+ folder at the top level of your HD. If so, that's where you found your backed-up stuff.
    The +Restore System From Backup+ option on the DVD is to restore from Time Machine backups, and it doesn't sound like you've ever made any.
    And you cannot use +Migration Assistant+ on that folder. It works to transfer from one Mac (or Time Machine or "clone" backups of one), to a different one.
    If that's what you did, you'll have to install Snow Leopard over Leopard (that won't disturb anything else). When you start up, you'll have Snow Leopard and little else. You'll have to copy what you need from the +Previous System+ folder.

    Once this is sorted out, in addition to buying Snow Leopard, you really should start making regular backups of your system. See the [Time Machine Tutorial|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#timemachinebasics] and perhaps browse [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), and/or Kappy's post on [Basic Backup|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12366915#12366915].

    I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac. The drive is not listed in Disk Utility.  Any suggestions?

    Is the computer in you equipment line:
    Dual Core Intel Xenon
    (which is not a PowerMac but a Mac Pro) the one you are asking about, or do you have an older PowerMac?
    If a Mac Pro, their forums are here:
    Mac Pro
    and, as Mac Pros have a totally different architecture from the pre-2005 Macs this forum covers, you may not have the same issues that can affect the older models. If someone didn't notice your equipment line, you could get advice that doesn't apply.
    If you really have a pre-2005 PowerMac, read on.
    If the stubborn external is USB and does not have its own power brick (i.e., it gets power only from the computer's UBS ports--"bus powered"), it may not be getting enough power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power than when new, and the power available on any USB port is limited.
    The typical workabouts to making a computer recognize an aging, bus-powered USB drive are:
    Get a powered USB hub (has its own power brick
    Get a "Y" USB cable: 1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
    The second gets power from two USB ports on the computer and often that's enough.
    Remember that the USB ports on your keyboard seldom provide enough power even for a thumb drive, so be sure to use the USB ports on the back of the computer.

  • Windows 8 hangs or freezes whenever search for anything

    Rebuild the Index
    Whenever you try to search for something in windows, its indexing which find the things quickly and brings that to you.If indexing is disabled or corrupt computer won't be able to search and will not present the search results.Windows uses the index to perform very fast searches on your computer.
    The index requires almost no maintenance. However, if the index can't find a file that you know exists in an indexed location, you might need to rebuild the index. Rebuilding the index can take several hours, and searches might be incomplete until the index is fully rebuilt.
    Go to Control panel and open Indexing Options.
    Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the Indexing Options window. This displays a new window titled Advanced Options.
    Click the Index Settings tab if it isn’t selected already.
    Click the Rebuild button to delete and rebuild the file index.
    Click OK to confirm.
    For more information on Advance indexing option you can read article on microsoft's website http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/change-advanced-indexing-options
    Step 2 will always fix this issue but just in case its not helpful try the next Step 3.

    Hi,
    Regarding current information we can't say that it related to this exe file.
    We need to use Clean boot mode and Safe mode to test the results:
    Please first restart the Windows in Clean boot and see if the issue still persists after reboot:
    How to perform a clean boot
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    If the issue doesn’t appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check half of the problematic
    half services.
    If the issue still persists in Clean boot mode, please test in Safe mode.
    Let me know the results in Safe mode.
    If we cannot identify this issue in Clean boot and safe mode, please help to collect the boot trace and let's see what cause this issue:

  • Iphone 5s - Calls Breaking Up - Searching for Network

    Hello.
    I recently started using my new Iphone 5s and I have a big problem.
    Every call I get or make, the call suddenly breaks up during the first minute. My network reception bar drops to 1 bar, then says "searching..." briefly, and then it comes back. But the call is already gone. There are no problems when I remake the call. But I get this problem with every single call that I make. I've never had a problem with my Iphone 4 for 2 years, so I don't think it's about my carrier. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? Any suggestions?

    I have the same problem. My phone keeps "Searching..." for network, and if I don't fix it, it can go on like that for days. I tried several solutions, Reset Network Settings, Reset All Settings, hard reset, and finally I restored my iphone to factory settings then re installed ios 8.1.3, which I had trouble doing because my phone took 4 days to finally have a successful restore. I am not sure if this is about updating to ios 8.1.3, but all of this happened to my iphone 5s a few days after updating. Anyway, after my phone had miraculously went thru with the restore, my phone was back to the way it was, but after 2 days, it went back to searching for network again whenever I get to an area with poor signal. I put phone in Airplane mode for about 10-20 mins, then turn off Airplane mode to check if signal is back. If it still  doesnt, I reset network settings, then airplane mode again. I have not yet used reset all settings since my iPhone restore. I tried to google and see if this really is an ios problem or just my case, then I came across your question. The latest fix I did just this morning is I plugged my phone to my wall charger and tried to dial a number and pressing the green call button several times until the signal went back. That was by far the simplest solution I have discovered, but I still can't say if that IS the solution because it was just my first time to do it. I advise you not to restore your phone because in my case, mine took 4 days to until i was able to use my phone again since restoring wasn't working. You don't want to end up with a dead brick phone. With mine,  I just kept trying until it went thru and I don't think I will be doing the restore all over again because of what happened.  I hope this is just a problem with ios update and that apple will soon find a permanent fix to this.
