Second camera lost in breaking apart clip items

Hi there,
I did some syncing with two camera's and separate audio (Using Plural Eyes 3.5 (why does it on a Mac does not recognise MP4?)).
Made a Compound clip from it.
Now, when I double click I zoom into the compound clip and see my two camera clips perfectly synced so I can choose (I am not using multicam here),
BUT when I hitShift-Command G for breaking apart clip items. I only see one camera 1 (on storyline).
Note, when I zoom in (rubble click) on the compound clip; I see that the camera clips of camera 2 are bundled in a compound.. maybe that has something to do with it?)
Thx already!
Stephan

Thx.. can't figure out the issue I described. Tried it again and now it does work.
Regarding Plural eyes I have a screenshot. Its 4K footage form Lumix GH4. What I do is simply change the name to .mov and it works. Shouldm't be necessary though.
thx!

  • I Can No Longer Break Apart Clip Items??

For some reason, I can no longer drag a clip from the browser to the main timeline, then lift and then proceed to break it apart into a video and seperate audio tracks. I was doing this all the time, but now this option seems to have disappeared. I tried repairing permissions... I can access the components of the clip with the "open in new timeline" option after dragging down the maintimeline and lifting, but that still doens't explain why I can't choose or shortcut to break it apart in the main timeline, when lifted, anymore??? Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks,

Dustin, let me know if I haven't understood your post correctly.
You create a new project and set the frame rate to 23.98P
The media in your Events is 30P
From what I understand, your saying that if you drop a 30P clip in a 23.98P project, your unable to Break Apart Clip Items..?
    Works perfectly fine for me.

  • When I drag a synchonised clip to timeline, can I turn off the video's audio track only without breaking apart clips?

I have preparred many clips by synchonising them with audio recorded on H4N - and have these in keywords.
When I drag them to the timeline, do I have to break apart each clip item to turn off the video's audio track or is there a shortcut to doing this?

For each clip you can go to the audio portion of inspector and uncheck/disable the tracks you don't desire. That would take longer than Tom's method, but I think the audio won't show up as a blank later on.

  • Why Will Synced clips not break apart on the timeline?

I have created a number of synced clips in the evnt browser, and added them to my timeline. Now if i try to break aprt the synced clips on my timeline, it no longer allows me to in FCP X 10.0.9. What gives?

I can't reproduce this. I tried a few synchronized clips, and Clip->Break Apart Clip Items worked as expected.

  • How to break compound clip unable to relink?

I edited a video one computer. I transferred over to another computer. I relinked all of the video files using 'File' - 'Relink Project Files'. Once all of the files where relinked unfortuntley the compound clips did not relink. When I selected the compound clip where the video files are missing. I cannot break the compound clip to relink the files. 'Open in Timeline', 'double clicking on compound clip' and 'Break Apart Clip Files' does not work. It simply does not give me the option. This is unfortunate because I have to essential redue these edits on the computer I transferred my project on. There is no way around it?? This seems like a Final Cut Pro X glitch/problem. Does any one have any solution to this problem? I research this problem and found no solution! help anyone?

    Hi Tom,
Problem is when I right click on the compoud clip, there was no longer an option to break clips apart !
Where does Apple locate the function to break clips apart now in 10.0.6 ?
    Thanks

  • Breaking apart bitmaps

    Hi All,
Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but I don't see anywhere else. I'm trying to break apart the items on my timeline using code, however some of them have already been broken apart. My question is, how do I test if an object has been broken apart already in JSFL?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

Not sure I totally understand - the point is so you can pick
this swatch "color" again in this
document. If you delete the bitmap from the document's
library it will go away. If you open a new
doc it won't be there because the new doc doesn't contaqin
    any imported/broken apart/color-picked
    bitmaps.
I have to ask, what were you expecting to happen with this
particular swatch? Or rather, is there a
better workflow solution for you perhaps? Just curious.

  • Why can I not break apart my clips after I updated Final Cut X?

I just downloaded the new upgraded version of Final Cut x. When doing so, all of my project files prior to the update LOCKED all my compoud clips. When i right clicked to break the clip apart it does not give me the option to break them apart. Its almost like it is now 1 media file.

It's been removed from the shortcut menu is all. Shift-Cmd-G or the Clip menu.

  • Breaking 1 clip into many clips

My project (over 1 hour long) consists of many 40-year-old super 8 movies. Half were digitized into a proprietary Sony format, which had to be converted to a format iMovie 6 HD could use; half were already in an iMovie HD6 project. They were then combined into one file in iMovie HD 6, and exported in .dv format for use in iMovie 11. However, iMovie 11 imported almost one hunded clips as one clip. I now need to break it into lots of clips so I can edit very dark spots, blown out spots, and bad color, and add music. iMovie 11 help says I can break 1 clip into only 2 or 3 clips. Help please!
Thanks in advance for any solutions.

I would recommend that you break apart the big DV clip using MPEG Streamclip.
    Here are the details.
Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
    Start MPEG Streamclip
In iMovie, Right-click on your long event clip and select REVEAL IN FINDER.
A Finder Window will appear. Drag the highlighted clip to MPEG Streamclip.
If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
You can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o.
IN MPEG Streamclip, Use FILE/EXPORT to DV
Optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month. hh is hours in 24 hour time.
Save the resulting files in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
Go back to MPEG Streamclip, and set the in and out points for your second clip and go through the steps again.
Continue until you have created all your clips.
In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/Movies... and choose the files you saved above.
iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

  • Proper way to "break up" clips...

How do you break up clips?  I know you can do it while you're importing by selecting various in and out points, but I'm wondering about once you've already imported them and they're in the event browser.
I was watching a tutorial that deals with analyzing clips (for stabilization, balance color, etc.) once you've already imported them.  The instructor said that analyzing a long clip for stabilization can take a long time, of course.  If you only need to analyze and fix a brief section of the clip, he recommended breaking the clip up first so you're only analyzing and fixing the one part of the clip that you want.  He recommends exporting that small clip and bring it back into final cut before you analyze it.
What would be the best, quickest way to do this so that you don't lose quality?
I bring AVCHD files into FCPX and have it create optimized media from them.  Should I create a project, pull the section of the clip I want into that project, and then export it using "Video codec: Current Settings"?  And then just bring it back in using File> Import> Files...?  Would I experience any loss of quality doing it that way?
Also, is there a faster or easier way to do this?  I shot some early footage leaving the camera on for over an hour, so I need to break that footage up.  I know I can do that when I'm importing the footage, but I'd also like to know how to do it once the footage is imported.
(I have since realized that that isn't a good practice, and now I break it up while shooting different parts of what I'm doing.)

    Hi Andynick--
As I said in my first reply, there is no quick way to do this. I import the native (camera)footage, then export a clip as ProRes 422 - but this means compressing again. ProRes 422 is about the best you can get without converting to Uncompressed (where a 5 second clip will become over 1 GB in size).
I understand what you are saying about there being no great way to do this, but I still have part of my question:
Please note that I am already converting the AVCHD files from my computer to Apple Pro Res 422 when I import them with the Create optimized media option under Transcoding.  I'm doing that no matter what, so whatever loss of quality is involved in going from AVCHD to Pro Res 422 is already something I'm experiencing.
Given that, let's say I create a throw-away project (a project I will use only to break up a clip) and allow its Video Properties to be set based on the first video clip (which will be one of the AVCHD clips I've converted to Pro Res 422).  I then select the footage I want from one of the video clips I'd like to break down and put it in the timeline.  I then export the project using Share> Export Media, choosing Current Settings under Video codec:.  I believe that this will create a Pro Res 422 clip.  If I do this, and then reimport the clip that I create in this manner into my Event browswer, will that clip's quality be further diminished?
In other words, I know that I'm losing quality when I first import the footage into FCPX and choose to optimize the AVCHD files to Pro Res 422.  My question is:  Using the method to "cut out" a clip described in the previous paragraph, would I be further degrading the footage?
I know this would be time consuming.  I just want to know if it results in further degradation of the quality of the footage.

  • Filters gone after using "breaking apart" command

    Hi there,
I spent quite a bit of time enhancing my video with filters. Then I used the "Break apart" command (Cmd-Shift-G) on some clips in order to be able to work on the audio tracks separately on those clips. Strangely those clips seem to have lost their video filters! I think this is terrible. Any advice? TY.
    André Vanasse

Permanetly gone I'm afraid.... I learned the hard way too. When you break apart a compound clip, you are basically destroying it, not just "opening" it up. you have to double click it to "dive in" to the clip. I realize theres times when this isn't a good enough solution, only work around I have is to copy the clip before you destroy it, make your changes, then remake a compound clip and then "Paste Effects" this kinda does what your looking for. good luck!

  • How to Break apart a text?

I am a Corel user and I am trying to learn Illustrator as well. I am trying to find a way to Break Apart( this is the term Corel uses) a text without converting them to  outline.
example: I have list of names and I am trying to stretch or skew some of them but because I typed each name underneath each other and used Enter to get to the second line ,Illustrator understands them as one object. How can I break them apart so each word will be by itself?
    I hope this make sense.
    Thanks
    Alex

For eg: This is one text frame
Go to Object>>Flattern Transparency (DO NOT Convert All Text to Outlines).
It will return all text in different frames :
Then Object >> Clipping mask >> Release followed by Select >> Object >> Text Objects and CTRL+X - Cut
So it will leave behind all clipping boxes, Select and delete all boxes.
CTRL+V (paste) all text frames from Clipboard.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to edit with a second camera?

We are using one camera to record our church services.  It was suggested we could get a second camera and then edit the video from the two cameras into one sequence.  Since I just started to use PP CS5 to do the editing from the one camera, I am not sure how that would work.  I have seen the final product that others have done, but would like a quick overview of what needs to be done in PP.
By the way, we have a AVCHD camera that saves the video to an SDHC card, so will assume we will get a similar camera for the second one.  Also, we take the audio from our sound board and it goes into the camera, so is part of the recording.  Should I also assume that the audio should only be recorded onto only one camera?  Sorry, lots of questions - any help to get me started?

Premiere PRO can easily handle the editing of two cameras or many more and really your question as to whether to get a second camera depends on creatively what you want to do.  If you are shooting someone speaking or playing a piano, having two cameras gives the ability to have one possibly shooting the person from the front, and then the second may be being farther way from the side going simultaneously.  That way when you are editing you can switch between the shots from each camera angle to give some style.
To edit it is simple.  Import your footage from each camera and then drop the footage from one camera into one timeline and then drag and drop the footage of the second camera into the other  timeline.  Whatever is in the top layer or timeline is going to be what you see, so if you want something in the lower timeline to show you will have to make sure nothing is above it.  This is a very simple approach to get you going.
I'm assuming that you do not have much equipment from your question and you are just starting out. So the next step you will need to do is to synch up the sound on your clips from one camera with the other as best you can.  But if you are going to be doing a lot of this, you want to do some homework and study up as you will want to have your cameras synched up with timecode and you will want to be shooting with this in mind and investing a few bucks is well worth the cost.
    Good luck.

  • Is it possible to keep a movieclips filter/tint changes after breaking apart?

I already know the answer is no, but I think that could be something the developers can work on for a future version. I'm currently working on combining a bunch of movieclips with variating color schemes that I'd like to condense into a unified pallete. Breaking apart a movieclip reverts the graphics to the original colors but it would be super-helpful if flash repasted the current color settings onto the graphics once its broken apart. Maybe implementing a few of illustrators color palette tools would be great too. If this isn't the proper place, then I apologize but I wanted to pass the info along as an artist who is currently using flash as his primary art development tool right now.

I'm here, Ned. And Yes, the wishlist is the best place to post any enhancement request for further review.
This is a wonderful request and will need careful planning due to several factors. The first issue I see is filter being specific to movieclip only so it can not be applied to a graphic symbol. The second is that if we are to reapply the filter and other effects to the symbol after break apart, what happen if the inner symbol already have this effect at a different value. Lots of things to consider and think about in the design as well as engineering of this request.

  • Sony DCR-HC30 --- footage in iMovie breaks apart upon import

    Hello,
I'm having trouble importing camcorder footage from my Sony DCR-HC30.
The footage plays fine in the camcorder but after I transfer it to iMovie, It breaks apart and the transfer stops.
I have successfully transferred footage from this camcorder into iMovie in the past.
I've tried a new firewire cable but it hasn't helped --- although at least
iMovie recognizes the camcorder now (with my old firewire cable it didn't)
Any assistance would be much appreciated
    Thanks very much!
    Mike

    Hi Sue,
I got the footage from my camcorder safely on board my PowerBook (and am backing up to an external hard drive even as we speak --- certainly nothing wrong with my stalwart and intrepid firewire port!)
    Woo Hoo!!!!!!!
I can now proceed with my project --- work on which came to a screeching halt several days ago...
    (It'll be on www.computershy.com)
Just as the import was starting from iMovie (during my many failed attempts) --- I briefly saw something like "importing QuickTime movie".
If iMovie was under the impression that it was importing a QuickTime movie from the camcorder, that would explain the distorted footage (but not why iMovie was having problems seeing the camcorder at all...)
I didn't see that message during the imports thad did work.
    I'm gettting a new camcorder
Thanks for all your help! You were there in my time of need!
