Second monitor stopped working with MSI Cyclone OC 460GTX 1Gb

Hi everyone!
I recently bought this card and it worked well for about a month. I woke up one morning to see my second monitor having turned black. There appears to be a signal of some sort since I don't get the "no signal/input" message, but there's no response no matter what I try. I went back to the shop and they confirmed the same error which was then believed to be a broken secondary DVI port. They tested a new card and found it to be working, but I got the same black screen when I came home and plugged it in.
I'm using a 24'' BenQ G2400WD and a Samsung SyncMaster 173T. As they worked well together for about a month and did so on my old 9800GT as well I have no reason to expect the actual monitors to be the cause. They both work fine on DVI 1, but none of them do on DVI 2.
I'm currently sitting with my second card and have tried the following things:
- clean install of new drivers
- uninstalling the last windows updates before the second DVI port stopped working (and then doing a clean install of drivers)
- confirmed that both monitors work on the other port
I've talked to the shop again and they told me they got the card I handed in to work by making sure it was properly connected. I've made sure of this myself as well of course, but without any luck. The guys at this place are known for being good at what they do so I have no reason to suspect that they overlooked anything obvious. The fact that they've gotten both cards to work at their place puzzles me a bit.
My current theory is either a bad batch of cards or some sort of windows update breaking dual screen support. I would expect to have heard about it if it was a windows issue, but both cases might be underreported given that most people only use one monitor. I filled in relevant information in my signature to the best of my knowledge. Please let me know if I've missed something and I'll try to figure it out.
Any help appreciated

OK, I will let you know. First update:
Vendor has already given me a RMA number(less than 2 hours). The VGA card should hopefully be in the snail mail process tomorrow.
One weird thing, my RMA was degraded from replace to repair. Not quite sure about that one? Not sure if that means that it will be replaced or sent to MSI from vendor for repair/or vendor will attempt repair? Only time will tell, I guess. The only great thing is that just one of these 4890 Cyclone OC cards beats out a single 3870x2 vga card hands down. And thanks to this forum, I was taking some time to read up on this forum. I must say I am impressed, keep up the good work moderators and MSI. Thanks and will keep you updated. Special thanks to Svet.

My Second Monitor stopped working in snow leopard. How do I fix it?
The monitor is not dead I have checked it using the the other monitor slot. The slot thats not working is the one that has the HDMI adpator on the end of the cable. Tried resetting the computer disconnecting the monitor power, trying a new cable. Nothing fix's it. I'm using snow leopard and everything has been fine. I haven't done any recent updates or changes to the system in the last 4 weeks.

  • External Monitor Stopped Working with OSX but fine with XP

I have a viewsonic Monitor that im connecting to mbp via hdmi-dvi.
It has been working fine for the last 9-10months but has all of a sudden just stopped being detected.
If i Boot up in windows i have no problems as the monitor is detected fine, but with OSX 10.5.8 all i get is the Grey/blue screen change on the mbp when its connected to mbp or when monitor powered on or off.
There is no change to external monitor though.
I have tryed resetting the PRAM
when i go into sys pref/display, it does not detect a second monitor
I have been looking around for a few hrs now with no luck, any help would be great

Have tryed having monitor unpluged for a whole day and that didnt work, cant see any reset button on monitor.
tryed resent PRAM and PMU, tryed booting in safe mode, tryed booting from OSX disc
    but didnt quite understand :
"If you see video when started up from disc, you may have corrupted software. You can use the Archive and Install feature of the Mac OS X installer to reinstall. This kind of installation gives you a fresh version of Mac OS X, but you don't lose any data from the computer as your old information is all archived."
it just booted up and asked if i wanted to install another copy of OSX.
only thing i havnt tryed from the above help is the rm command part of the out of range mac mini, and im a little cautions about that
-i can still use it fine via bootcamp, i just have to go into video settings and tell it to use dual monitors, is there anything like that on osx ? only thing i can find is the display button in sys pref and that only gives me the option to detect displays which it dont do very well.
    Thanks

  • Second monitor stopped working on upgrade to 10.10

I recently upgraded my mid 2010 Mac Pro from 10.6.8 to 10.10.1. This upgrade resulted in the loss of signal to my second monitor. The primary monitor connects via an hdmi/vga adaptor and the second monitor uses the video card vga connection. Both monitors worked fine until the upgrade. After the upgrade the main monitor works fine. The second monitor is recognized and appears in the system preferences-Displays as well as the System Report-Graphics/Displays. Looking the other way the computer connection is recognized by the monitor. The second monitor is black screen with a no-signal message. I have checked all connections, reset the prom and tried various connects and dis-connects of the video cables and restarts all with expected results just no picture on display two. I have not yet reset the SMC because I am not familiar with any associated consequences. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Resetting SMC could solve the problem, though try reverse the connection way(main monitor connect DVI directly and second one via the adapter) could solve the problem.
What's video card are you using by the way?

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Mac - Second monitor stopped working

I have been using CS6 with a dual monitor setup for a few weeks.  I have enabled the second display for video playback in the settings and everything worked great.  Now for some reason the second display isn't working anymore with Premiere Pro for video playback (It won't full screen preview) even though the option for my second monitor is checked in the preferences. I didn't make any changes to my system that I know of.  I'd really like to figure this out because it is quite annoying and frustrating that it worked perfectly 2 weeks ago and now it doesn't work at all. (Have restarted system already) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I talked with Tech support and they were able to help me solve the issue.  The solution involved moving my program onto the second monitor and then reversing the option setting (Ie, make the primary monitor my playback monitor)... after that I switched it back by moving the program to the primary monitor and set the secondary monitor as my playback monitor.  Seems to work fine now.

  • Did a firmware update 2/29/12 and now my second monitor stopped working, turns on and is detected but goes black

I did a recommended mac os update on 2/29/12.  It also performed a firmware update.  When I restarted my external second monitor came on and then went black.  The monitor is detected and if I change it's size it comes on couple of seconds and goes black again.  Any idea what might be the problem? No problems experiecned before update.

Well THANKS Matt_G..... I opened in safe mode and all my previously opened tabs, from when it last worked, displayed properly. I then started Aurora normally and it failed again so took your advice about disabling Add-ons and now all is working properly again. Not sure which Add-on it was because I disabled almost a of them since they really did nothing for me. I might go back tomorrow and try to find the one that did me in. Think that when you update Aurora it checks for new versions of Add-ons and that could also have gotten me.
    Thanks again,

  • How to get Asus VG278H 3D monitor to work with MSI GT70 0NC-002US?

So I just got this monitor for Christmas and it works great in 2D, but my Nvidia control panel will not show the option to set up stereoscopic 3D, I know this laptop is definitely capable of supporting 3D as it has a GTX670m graphics card, and MSI states this in the product description. I have contacted Nvidia customer support, but they weren't able to help, I have updated the graphics card drivers, and am connecting the laptop to the monitor with an HDMI cable. Please help if you can!

There is no hint on product site for this notebook being 3D Vision certified. As this is a notebook it takes not just the gpu but also the screen to be 3D Vision certified. Even if it would be I highly doubt it would work on an add-on screen and not just the notebook's screen.
Sadly....this notebook is 3D Vision certified.....If you actually check the product page, it's one of the major things that are pointed out. Actually, I guess the link I have is for the 0NE (which is what I have), but still...The ONC and OND should be the same.
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-0NE.html
Right there at the end of all the graphics information it talks about 3D Vision. =/
The 0NC is a bit different. It lacks all mention of 3D Vision. =/
Now....the worst part. 3D Vision requires a Dual Link DVI connection, which this laptop lacks. HDMI is only comparable to a single-link DVI connection as well. That being said, you're pretty much out of luck when it comes to using the monitor in 3D Mode. Especially with the next part....
Lastly.....taken from http://www.techjailbreak.com/msi-gt70-0ne-255fr-gaming-laptop-complete-review-and-specs/ which is for the GT70-0NE....
    Quote
Finally, note that the GTX 680M is compatible with all technologies Nvidia (PhysX, Optimus, etc..) but some of them (such as 3D Vision) cannot be used on the machine, for lack of suitable 3D display. However, if you have the glasses and a 3D Vision screen, nothing prevents you from connecting the MSI GT70 via HDMI and 3D gaming (720p only).
I hate to say it, but it really looks like you're out of luck when it comes to using that monitor for 3D.

  • Dual MOnitors stopped working with the Windows 8.1 upgrade valentines week 2015

The recent windows 8.1 upgrade during the week of 2/8/2015 broke the ability to duplicate screens on my Envy dv6 and a Hannspree LCD.  There is no screen on the Hannspree while it does remain on the dv6.  Switch to external screen only and the screen does display on the Hannspree.  Switch to extend and the dv6 remained the primary screen, and the Hannspree can only show the screen saver.

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a fantastic  place to find answers and suggestions!

Have you done all your Windows updates?
Have you ran the  HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates?
Have you ran the Windows troubleshooter?
Understanding multiple monitors from windows.microsoft.com may also help.
If the above has not helped I would do a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8) with the exteranl monitor disconnected.
This returns the notebook back to defaults.
    HP & Windows 8.1 Update
Now without reconnecting the external monitor redo your Windows 8.1 update. The above link may assist you with that process.
Please be sure all updates are done before reattempting the update.
Now if  you reconnect your external are you able to set it up correctly?
    Good Luck!

  • DVI second monitor stopped working. Stuck in "Power Save Mode"

I have a HPE-110f Desktop PC. Monitor does not respond to all manners of troubleshoot e.g. update SW, disconnect reconnect. power save to "never" settings. Monitor checked on VGA and works fine. Status of Video Card infers working. Considering DVI adapter to VGA as stopgap to buying new Graphics card. Not a gamer but considering upgrade(s) to Radeon HD 4350 w/ P/S upgrade as well. Help. Prefer cheaper existing equipment fix.

Try connecting them all one at a time first and make sure each monitor functions as it should when it is the only monitor being used. Then try connecting the other monitors one at a time and changing the extending display settings. This is to see if there is a point in the process where it fails. Also, it could reset the settings to get it working again.

  • HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3

HP Pavilion external monitor has stopped working with my Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.3.  When I purchased the monitor a few weeks ago it worked perfectly when computer was in clamshell mode or with lid open. Now external display has stopped working.  When I turn on display it scans for signal but does not find it and then immediately goes into sleep mode.  I am using a DVI connection with the adapter for the mini display plug.  REALLY FRUSTRATING. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

  • Problem with a Dell Monitor - stopped working yesterday, just a flashing orange light. Monitor or Mac Mini issue?

I've been using an old Dell monitor with my Mac Mini ever since I got it, however yesterday evening my monitor stopped working - however I'm not sure whether the issue is with the monitor or the Mac Mini. It just doesn't seem to respond when I try to bring the Mac Mini out of sleep. I can hear that the Mini is responding to the keyboard - I hear the right noise for pressing return on the password box without entering anything.
I've made sure all the cables are plugged in properly (power & connection to the Mini), but all I'm getting is a flashing orange light on the monitor.
I don't have anything else to test the monitor on, nor do I have access to another monitor to plug into the Mac Mini - I only have an old iBook G4, so don't have the right adaptors to plug the VGA from the monitor into that.
So before I run out and buy a new monitor, what is the best way to determine where the problem lies.

Hi, I've actually never had any issues waking this monitor from sleep, this is the first time that it has been unresponsive and I've had it for years - probably over 10! (E151FP) so probably overdue for replacement.
To be honest I'd rather not just switch the Mini off unless it's a last resort given that other than the lack of a picture everything else seems to be working ok - still hearing all the normal noises of Skype, Mail and TimeMachine etc.

  • Mountain Lion 1.8.2 update made my dual monitor stop working on Mac Pro mid 2012

Just done Apple's update for Mac OS X Mountain Lion to 1.8.2 and after rebooting my dual monitor stopped working.
If I go on preferences -> Displays it shows me only one of my two monitors, even if I invert the connections the 2nd monitor doesn't shows up and there seems no way to enable it again.
    Any suggestion?
P.S. I already tried to set from "Best for display" to "Scaled", but after rebooting Mountain Lion 1.8.2 reset it to "Best for display"

    Ok,
did some extra test here, but first of all my configuration:
Mac Pro (Mid 2012) with ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB.
2 LCD 24" Wide-screen (1st monitor Hyundai W240D and 2nd Monitor HP w2448hc), both LCD worked perfectly until reboot after installing OS X 1.8.2
After reboot only the 1st monitor wored fine, the 2nd not even listed, so tried to invert cable connections on the 2 miniports on the ATI video card, but nothing changed, still only the 1st monitor working.
Did a second test, disconnected the 1st monitor and connected ONLY the 2nd and now the second works fine.
Tried to connect 2nd monitor on a different miniport, and i still works fine.
Updated my MacBook Pro to 1.8.2 (it as an nVidia card) and connected my 2nd monitor to it and everything works fine, both the laptop LCD and my HP LCD are working fine.
So it looks like Apple screwed up the ATI driver on the latest 1.8.2, now only ONE miniport is active.
To all users with the same Mac Pro configuration: hold to update to Mountain Lion 1.8.2 until Apple fix this driver issue.
More info are on the Console output, so will have to contact Apple on-line support to signal this bug.

  • IMac External Monitor stopped working

I have an Intel based iMac and have been running my old 17inch apple monitor as a second display for over a year now. For no apparent reason today the monitor stopped working. The screen just appears black. there is power getting to it as the power light is on and the computer detects the display fine. I can even move objets to that monitor, I just cant see anything. Any helps would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Joe

Yep, have the same problem using a 3rd party cablesson mdp-hdmi adapter. Everything worked fine until quite recently. I have tried pretty much everything to fix it but nothing seems to work. I'm almost convinced it's an OS problem, as everything works fine when I boot into my windows bootcamp partition.
Apple, please get this sorted! I'm reluctant to shell out $35 only to find that I have the exact same problem with the official adapter. Though I probably will anyway because I urgently need to get my display working again.

  • Second display stopped working

    Greetings all,
I have an Intel-based 20" iMac, running 10.5.8. For over 2 years I've been using a second monitor by way of the mini DVI adaptor on the back. Just last week the iMac stopped recognizing the second monitor so to speak (screen stays black, but I can grab things like Finder windows and drag them over to where the second monitor should be, and if i disconnect the cable from the iMac to the second monitor, then reconnect it toggles like it wants to recognize it, but doesn't complete it). I checked the monitor, and it does work with a different computer. I also purchased a new dvi-mini dvi connector through Apple hoping that would fix it. I attached the new connector and my computer recognized my monitor and everything was fine, for one day. Now it's not recognizing it again. Anyone have this problem? Any solutions?

Hey - I was just wondering if you'd had any resolution to your issue of the second monitor not working? I just came home from being out of town and my second monitor has stopped working? It shows as though it is in stand-by (according to the power button) but nothing more. Not really sure what to do as I've already checked all the connections and etc. Assistance would be greatly appreciated!
