Secondary Site Install Failure: ReadCertificateThumprint : Failed to get SSB certificate thumbprint

I am having some issues installing a secondary site at a remote location and it’s driving me crazy. Here is the setup I have.
SCCM 2012 Primary Site in datacenter
SQL Server 2012 hosted on the primary site server
Firewall ports opened for 80, 135, 443, 445, 1433, 4022, 8530 on cisco and host firewalls
Attempting to have secondary site at each branch office
Secondary site server computer account is in local admin group on primary
Primary site server computer account is in local admin group on secondary
Secondary site server has full access to system management container in AD
Secondary site server computer account is in a security group which has sysadmin rights on the primary SQL Server
Utilizing Secondary Site Server pre-existing SQL 2008 R2 instance
Confirmed 1433, and 4022 accessibility with telnet from secondary to primary
I run the secondary site wizard from the console, it passes all prereqs and runs setup for about 5 minutes on the secondary site server and fails here (ConfigMgrSetup.log):
***Select dbo.fnConverBinaryToBase64String9thumbprint) FROM master.sys.certificates WHERE name='ConfigMgrEndpointCert"
CSControlSetup::ReadCertificateThumbprint : Failed to get SSB certificate thumbprint.
Error: Failed to setup SQL Server certificate for service broker "%NameOfMySecondarySiteServer%"
Error:Failed to initialize site control data.
I’ve searched around and the only thing I really saw was a reference to a local LSA password filter, which my secondary site server does not have.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Update: I opened up all firewall ports between the two and still get the error.

    Hello,
I am installing a secondary site for SCCM and having issues in the SQL portion when it gets to setting up SSB. I'm not sure if it's directly pertinent to the SQL portion but here is what I've done so far on the config
    mgr side.
SCCM 2012 Primary Site in datacenter
SQL Server 2012 hosted on the primary site server
    Firewall ports opened for 80, 135, 443, 445, 1433, 4022, 8530 on cisco and host firewalls
    -    I then opened up all firewall ports in the network and host(s) in each direction for troubleshooting when the above didn't work.
I've searched around and the only thing I can find is in relevance to an LSA password filter reg key, but I do not have on that box.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
A few things to check (I'm not extremely familiar with SCCM):
    1. Check to see if the certificate exists (run the query on the SQL Server that fails)
    2. Check to make sure the login used to access the server can access the certificate (if exists from step 1)

Renamed secondary site accidentally, communication error-set back to old name. try to retry secondary site install Error: site system role or site server role already installed.
However i have removed SQL express and also deleted registry entery from HKLM/MICROSOFT/SOFTWARE/SMS. I am trying to remove system center configuration secondary site setup from control panel and its not letting me to do so.
Please advice. Your help will be appreciated.

It sounds like you've broke everything you could find.... Not sure how you can accidently rename a server, or why you would remove all settings manually first without using the setup (from the control panel).
If that specific server is only used for ConfigMgr I wouldn't spend to much time on it anymore and simply reinstall the server and than reinstall the site.

  • Failed to get SQL certificate

I cant seem to get database replication going and the hman.log says "Failed to get SQL certificate for site ***".  Any help would be appreciated.

What have you done so far? Is this a new setup? Have you changed anything? Did it ever work?

  • Secondary Site install - Site Control File is invalid

I have installed 9 secondary sites successfully and without issue.  My tenth however is not going as well.
The bootstrap.pkg made it there and the install shows as completed however reviewing sitecomp.log on the secondary site shows the following:

I have tried restarting the services and rebooting the server altogether and still hangs here.  Any ideas before I wipe it and start over?
    Thanks!

So the site just changed from Pending to Active in the admin console.  Might be my OCD not waiting long enough. :-|  I will continue to monitor and see if it completes the process.  If all goes through, taking significantly longer that the
    other 9 site installs..

You answered your own question here didn't you. Why not remove the Windows Internal Database role from the server and try again?

  • Oracle 11g install failure, error, Failed to allocate port(s)

I'm having a very hard time reinstalling Oracle 11gR1 x64 bit after the hard drive where I first installed it failed and had to be replaced. The database I'm trying to setup is for personal use on this system only. I'm running Windows XP professional 64 bit edition and have .net framework version 1.1.4322.573 installed.
During installation the process hangs at the Database Configuration Assistant stage and will not progress till I manually end the lsnrctl.exe process in taskmanager. During the completing database process at the end I get this error -
    SEVERE: Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range(s) for the following process(es): JMS [5540-5559],RMI [5520-5539],Database Control [5500-5519],EM Agent [3938] | [1830-1849]
My first thoughts were the ports in question were in use or closed but I've been using both netbios and a port monitor program called currports to check and as far as I can tell the ports listed are open and not in use.
I did reconfigure the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files to include valid port addresses (1521) and I can get the lsnrctl.exe to start manually now but still can't connect to the database using an open SQL command prompt.
I also tried running the emca.bat but still no change. I need help, I'm beating my head against the wall now.
Here are my etc/hosts, etc/services, and emconfig.log files

  • I can't get version 11.1.4 to install because it fails to get the Mobile device program.  I don't have any mobile devices.  How can I overide this so I just get iTunes on my PC?

I cannot get iTunes 11.1.4 to install.  I have tried uninstalling iTunes and downloading itues again witha manual install. It always fails because it cant get the mobile device part to work.  I am the administrator and I don't have ANY mobile devices.  I just want to update the program on my PC - and now I don't have any iTunes at all.

The best information on dealing with the iTunes install is in the user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6562

  • Have new MacBook pro tried to install windows 7 failed cant get DVD out of drive

Tried to install windows 7 using boot camp message said can't install on any of the partitions can't get DVD out to restore eject button doesn't have any effect is there a key combination to eject dvd

First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disk Utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
Restart the computer while holding down Command-Option-O-F, to enter the Open Firmware prompt. Type "eject cd" without the quotes, and press return. The disk ought to eject. To start into OS X, type "mac-boot" without the quotes. Press return, and the computer will continue with the startup. (This will not work on an Intel Mac. There is no Open Firmware on Intel Macs. )
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • Uninstalling Secondary Site Server through SW Delivery fails

    We have migrated to SCCM2012
and now need to uninstall our
    SCCM 2007 Secondary Siteserver.
Since we have 300 Secondary Site Server
    in the Hirarchy, the uninstall
of the software must be distributed.
We have to create a task sequence,
in which the following steps are
    performed:
Put the server in the SCOM
    Maintenance Mode
    Stop SCCM services SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER
    and SMS_EXECUTIVE
Uninstalling the Secondary Siteserver with the
    Command "{install path} \setup.exe /deinstall"
Cleanup of folders and files that are left
    Restarting the Server
Take server out of the SCOM
    Maintenance Mode
The uninstallation works well on all Windows Server 2008 R2 Server. But not on the Windows Server 2003. There we get errors "Failed to open key Software\Microsoft\SMS\47006C006F00620061006C005C007B00350031004100300031003600420036002D0046003000440045002D0034003700350032002D0042003900370043002D003500340045003600460033003800360041003900310032007D00\SMSTS"
and "MP name must be set in an environment variable" and "Fatal error is returned in execution of the action (Uninstall Secondary Site). The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002; Source: Windows)".
After this errors, the Task Sequence Deployment aborts.
Has anybody a solution for this situation?

    Hi,
When removing a secondary site using the Delete Secondary Site Wizard, you must choose whether to delete or uninstall the secondary
    site:
Deleting the site will delete all information about the site and its resources from the Configuration Manager site database at its
parent site, but it will leave the Configuration Manager secondary site installed on the secondary site computer. Select this option if you have already manually uninstalled the secondary site using Configuration Manager Setup at the secondary site computer.
When Configuration Manager 2007 sites are deleted, the deleted site information is only deleted from the deleted site's direct parent site. Site deletion
information is not propagated up the hierarchy to grandparent sites. In order to delete the site from the site database at sites above the deleted site's direct parent site, the hierarchy maintenance tool (Preinst.exe) must be run on every primary site above
the deleted site's parent primary site using the command Preinst /delsite. For more information about the hierarchy maintenance tool, see
    Hierarchy Maintenance Tool (Preinst.exe).
    Refer to:
How to Remove a Secondary Site Using the Configuration Manager Console

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 Secondary Site installation Fails

    Hi.
I have multiple secondary sites when i am  trying to install  new SCCM 2012 Secondary site server remotely but installation status shows a pending from last few days.
    1) SEC server have privilages on System managent container
    2) Primary site Server account and computer have local admin right on SEC server
hman logs says the following error message
Cannot get SQL Certificate from site xxx
CheckParentSQLServerCertificate: Failed to get SQL certificate for site XXX
    1) Deleted the secondary site and reinstalled the site with different Site code but no luck
    2) Able to telnet 1433 and 4022 from both primary to secondary and vice versa
    3) SQL server Configuration Manager , TCP IP port was set to 1433.
please let me know if any thing i am missing
    Thanks

    Hi Guys
Exact same problem as described above:
Been told to install SQL Express manually first, but even after that, we continued to get the same problem.
The SQL Communication between the 2 sites doesn't seem to work.
I noticed that the Primary's SQL Security Account doesn't get created on Primary DB, in the Database replication the link has not yet been created either.
The "Exec spDrsSendSubscriptionInvalid 'Secondary 3 digit site code','Primary 3 digit site code','configuration data'" worked on 1 Secondary, but fails on all the rest.
Uninstalling/Installing the Secondary doesn't work either.

    Things I've tried:
    Different install folders
Using source files from the secondary site computer - got some error that the versions didn't match with the primary, even though I generated the files from the primary site.
    Pre-installing SQL 2008 R2 SP2 and SQL 2012 R2 SP1
    - With all SQL ports manually configured to 1433 - no errors on prereqs checks other than the warning about configuring minimum memory
Verified the computer account has full rights to System Management in Active Directory
    Removing all other SQL databases
Restarted the servers a million times.
Forgetting some stuff I tried I think, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion, the command runs fine in 2012 R2 as well, but where do I put the XXX.CT5 file? I did as suggested and put it in Install dir\inboxes\hman.box\ on the secondary site server but this didnt change the errors I got when retrying the
    install.
I've also created two new servers in the site, a plain as day 2012 R2 server and a plain as day 2008 R2 SP1 server (with the pre-req roles and features of course) and created new sites in SCCM and tried to setup on these new servers, I got the exact same
    problems.

  • Issues deploying Secondary Site

What is the best way to roll back a failed Secondary Site install?  When I originally installed it, it failed with a time out issue, and now when try to retry deploying it fails saying that the SQL version is unsupported, even though the Version of
SQL express was deployed from the primary server.
I assume I just select the site and select delete, but I want to make sure that it will roll back any changes made to the secondary site server. There isn't anything on the server I need to do so I can attempt another secondary site install?

    Hi,
There is a part of a blog could help you.
If the secondary site installation has failed, you will need to manually clean up the following before you attempt to reinstall.  To do this:
Delete the SMS registry key on the secondary site machine - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS
Delete the database created on the secondary site machine
to ensure the data files are removed.
(update 7/5/2013) If the database is a SQL Express version, uninstall the "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (64-bit)" from Add/Remove Programs (ARP).

  • Managing Secondary Site

So I found a TechNet article on installing a secondary site, and got it going as far as any logs says it's going but now what?
Where and how do I manage it? I tried googling and only found articles on installing a secondary site but no continuation on - Now that you have your secondary site installed go here to manage it.
Why a secondary site? It's in a different domain, part of the same forest, with very few clients and I didn't really want to associate it with the Stand Alone Primary site as they have a slow network.
I figured, open the Management Console, put in its name much like connecting to a Primary site and bam, you're done. Ick, a few errors.
Okay, then I thought, just connect to the primary site. Okay, add domain user to local administrator group and go...sort of, but finally I can connect to the Primary site. Yay!
    But again, now what?

    Hey Jason,
As always, it's a pleasure to get a nugget from you.
Yes, I have some learning to do.  At the moment I'm slogging through Microsoft's Virtual Academy for SCCM, but before having done that I was poking along with just the imaging aspect of things and branched out to adding DPs and a few days ago wanting
to get the  Windows Updates wrangled in which at the moment for one domain (A) it works groovy.  For the Domain B, I haven't integrated their WUS in to the mix.
On a client in Domain A, I go in to the wuahandler.log and see the lines...
Its a WSUS Update Source type ({22DDB6A6-E5A4-4493-8F90-EAD9875024B6}), adding it. WUAHandler 6/28/2014 2:00:01 AM 3836 (0x0EFC)

    YAY it works...
I go to a client in Domain B, which points to their own WUS and don't quite see the same thing.

So I figure, I need to some how get SCCM to be aware of the other domain's WUS (I know, it's WSUS, just seems redundant to have that first 'S') Sooo, I added the role to it. I don't recall the outcome of that, but perhaps I should revisit it to get a feel
for the deal of it. Anyway, I'm blathering at this point.
Anyway, perhaps I'm hoping to find an honest-to-goodness blog that walks through Enterprise level dealings with SCCM in a non-CAS environment, and multiple WSUS servers, DPs, MPs, and cool stuff like that for each of the domains in the enterprise.
That shows you how it's working, how to verify it is doing what it is suppose to do and stuff like that. Gone one?
As for books, do you have any recommendations? Got my Kindle all fired up and ready to go...but then tech books seems to lack on e-devices...Ick. Poor formatting and such.
And one other thing, about DPs that's got me baffled, and this is lack of understanding. I had a co-working IT guy call me some time ago and tell me that Firefox was failing to install. I looked at the log and scratched my head and saw that it was a boundary
issue of sorts. His laptop belongs to Domain A, but was connected to the network in Domain C which may or may not have been part of the Forest. Sooo, I looked at that and scratched my head, and then said OK let's just add his network information
to my boundary...Yay it worked. So I got to recognize boundary issues (And how to correctly spell boundary too). You are probably cringing at this point, if not already. But I'm guessing I over did it? I really have to figure out how boundaries work
so that matter where a Domain A computer is at it can get content (Which was the issue, it couldn't find the content) from hopefully the closest content source. Meanwhile maintaining that Domain B computers are suppose to do the same thing.
Ok, I'll go read now. Again. :(
Look forward to hearing back from you.
