Secure SMTP configuration

Is it possible for GWIA to allow both Secure SMTP and SMTP at the same time. How is that configured? Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

GWIA object in C1, set SSL for SMTP to "enabled". If the client (or the other SMTP server) is configured to use SSL, they'll talk encrypted. If the client isn't, the GWIA will fall back to unencrypted SMTP.
If you set SSL to "required", the GWIA will reject any unencrypted connection attempt, that's not what you want.

Unable to send mail via Secure SMTP

Our email system allows users access to their accounts via secure IMAP and SMTP.
I am able to connect and view my inbox via secure IMAP, using a number of different S60 devices - namely E72, E52 and 5800.
However I am unable to connect to send via secure SMTP.
By contrast, I am able to view and send mail with Apple and Android devices without any problems.
On my comparable UAT configuration the S60 devices do not have this problem.
On UAT, we use a self-signed certificate, as opposed to the Live system which uses a Verisign certificate.
Help, please!
I'd like to be able to send mail with my S60 devices.
How can I resolve this apparent problem with the certificate?

An Update of sorts.
On my E72 I removed all references to Verisign under: Ctrl. panel -> Settings -> General -> Security -> Certificate management -> Authority certificates. (There were about 6 entries)
I tried to connect afresh, but the phone took two attempts to pick up my password for email.
I now have a 'Trusted site certificate' for the email server.
However, I still can't send. A message pops up 'Unable to send message: <target address>'

CiscoWorks LMS with secure SMTP

Hi,
I have got a CiscoWorks LMS server to install. The client does not have an internal mail server but uses an external mail server on the internet that requires authentication and secure smtp. From the ciscoworks SMTP configuration in Common Services, there is no option to provide username and password for the smtp server.
If there a means to configure that from Command line or a file in CiscoWorks configuration?

This is not supported. There is an enhancement request (CSCin30857) open to add this capability.

Web service security not configured

Hi All,
We have new PI system 7.1 ehp1, as an initial step installation is done including post installation.I have a task of checking if
everything is in place as the same have to be confirmed to the team which did the installation.
When i open RWB , i could see a message with warning "WS security not configured". aprat from this everything seems to be
fine.
Can anyone guide me on how to set us WS security and what is the use ,importance of having that configured?

I dont think you have to configure Message level security configuration manually, i have done instaltion of PI 7.1,i have not seen any step like this.
by default it will come after completion of postinstaltion succesfully.

I am working on implementing the ADSI Security Adapter with a LDAP server in Siebel 80 instance. I have followed all the steps given the Security Guide & configured the parameters but when I am trying bring up eService application, I am getting the below error.
The server you are trying to access is either busy or experiencing difficulties. Please close the Web browser, open a new browser window, and try logging in again.[22:12:56]
After going through the eService object manager logs, here is what I have observed. I've tried all my methods to troubleshoot but unfortunately did not succeed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Web Service Security not configured on this component.

                       Before configuring the scenario, i went to RWB to check whether the comopnents are in active mode or not.
                              Integration Engine XID
                              Business Process Engine XID
                              Mapping Runtime XID
                              Adapter Engine XID
                              Integration Engines
                      All components are in Green mode Except Integration Engine, The Integration is in yellow mode
                       and shows the following details.
                     Details for 'Is Web service security available?'
                       Web Service Security not configured on this component.

                  1, While sending idoc from sapR/3 to PI , in r/3 sm58 shows the foll error:
"No service for system SAPQA,client 200 in integration directory"*
                           Even the Bussiness sytem pointing R/3.
From your initial post, it appears that you are using XID system and from above error, I believe you are trying to send the IDoc from QA system. R3 dev will communicate to PI dev, so verify the partner profile and ports in your IDoc Header settings.
                     2, When i execute the tcode sm58 in PI   it shows the following error:
                               "Syntax error in program SAPLSXI_AC_CACHE _REFERESH"
I am kinda confused how come sm58 tcode can show an error for this program, as sm58 is for checking the transactional RFCs and SAPLSXI_AC_CACHE_REFERESH is for XI Cache refresh for Alert Category. Might be some one else can explain this.
                     3, WHEN I EXECUTE THE tcode SXI_CACHE
                                         Under the *STATUS OF RUNTIME CACHE
                                                       Unable to refresh cache contents
                                                       Error during last attempt toreferesh cache
                                                         (red colour triangle leading above both)

                    4, Still there is no messages in Message monitoring.
Obviously because of error # 1, you are unable to send IDocs, how come you expect messages to reach PI ... strange, isn't it

Error in SMTP configuration

Hi all,
I am having problem regarding SMTP config. The error in SOST is occured whenever i am sending mail through a report program .
the long text of error message is as follows:
Cannot process message in SAP System
Message no. XS817
Diagnosis
Processing could not be continued due to a technical or configuration error in the SAP system.
System response
Processing was terminated.
Procedure
Processing was terminated in the SAP system. The reason is given in the details below:
No ESMTP Plug-In Is Available for SAPconnect

I have checked my SMTP configuration and it has been rightly configured as per http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/af/73563c1e734f0fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm.
If you have any suggestions to rectify this please give me.

Smtp configurations for italian email server

it seems I'm experiencing problems in creating email accounts for my hotmail.it, yahoo.it and libero.it providers..
can anyone help with smtp configurations?

The current server is mail.libero.it but you can't just use it to send mail via your email client when you are connected to the internet via an ISP other that libero infostrada. In that case you can always use the web mail interface to send out or reply to emails and that's free.
To use the smtp mail.libero.com you will have to:
1. Connect using libero ISP, which is only going to happen if you live in Italy
2. Buy the mail service (around 30 Euro a year) which will give you a 1GB mailbox and will allow you to send/reply to emails directly from your email client (once you configure the outgoing mail server).

Does the SAP System must be have direct internet connection in order to send mails to internet address or we can connect the internet via SAProuter to send the internet mails?!

You need to use an SMTP server (MS Exchange, Lotus or any other).

Anyone using Secure SMTP in SquirrelMail ?

Secure SMTP and Secure IMAP working fine with all Email clients. Secure IMAP works with SquirrelMail. But SMTP does not. I would like to know if anyone is using Secure SMTP in SquirrelMail. I get a message "Connection Refused" when I try to send an email from SquirrelMail. Appreciate any help.

You didn't mention if you modified the SM config with your server settings?
sudo /etc/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
Make sure you change the SMTP server from localhost to the proper common name for the server or ssl won't work.
But......
There's no reason to use SSL if SM and the SMTP server are on the same machine. No point in encrypting traffic which never hits the network.

The code? For regular SMTP with authentication I believe you needprops.put("mail.smtp.auth", "true");whereas you set up the mail.smtps.auth property instead. However I don't have any experience with secure SMTP, so I don't know what's right in that case. Are those other applications you mention using secure SMTP or just regular SMTP?

JavaMail Secure SMTP

Hi All,
I would like to implement secure smtp within a javamail application.
Before I make use of the example given with the mail.jar package
download I was wondering if any of the following was possible.
1.) Could I hard code a valid username and password on the server to
connect to the secure smtp server and then send mail from multiple
users with the same domain name/different domain name through this
hard coded account. Or do you have to connect per user to the secure
smtp server to send your mails.
2.) Is it possible to maybe append/prefix a username and password with
the "to address" to the secure smtp server. Almost like they way you
can conenct to an ftp server in your browser but oviously by making
use of the Java mail API. The server is able to then login as it can
find the appended/prefixed username and passord on the "to address"
property.
3.) If you know of any other limitations regarding this subject that I
should consider know about.

It depends.
It's up to the server to decide what the rules are.
It seems that you want to login to the server using one identity, and then send
messages that claim to be coming from some other identities. If you're using
a server that's supplied by some service (e.g., an ISP) it's unlikely to let you do
that. If it's a server that you own and control, you likely can set it up to allow that.

Mail server - smtp configuration questions

i'm having a bit of trouble getting clear on how mail configuration works, in particular the settings relating to smtp.
here are some questions i hope someone help with:
1. am i correct that settings made on the the settings>relay tab apply only to when my server is used as a relay - and therefore would not apply to general incoming smtp connections when another server connects to mine for delivery to locally-hosted domains?
2. there are three settings on the settings>relay tab. basically they are: "accept relays only from the specified addresses", "refuse all messsages from the specified addressses", and "use these rbl servers". the first two can seemingly each be separately enabled/disabled in addition to being configured with one or more addresses. my question is what happens if neither of the first two is checked (enabled)? does my server accept relay connections from anywhere? or does it accept no connections at all?
3 on the settings>general tab, there is a checkbox to enable smtp... one would assume that if this is unchecked, that this would disable all incoming mail AND smtp relay, yet it seems i can have this unchecked and i can still configure smtp relay on the settings>relay tab, so that seems odd - am i missing something?
4) on the same tab, it asks for a domain name and a host name. how are these used? what is the difference between the two? does it matter if my host accepts mail for multiple hosts (via host aliases - configured via settings>advanced>hosting>local host aliases)?
5) i want my server to accept mail to anywhere from authenticated users (i.e. users on my network who are sending mail to random other places). i want my server to accept inbound mail (to users on my locally-hosted domains) from any server without requiring authentication. my guess is that this is a pretty common or standard config. i am confused by the settings>advanced>security tab, where i can seemingly allow certain types of authentication.
5a) what are the semantics of the multiple check boxes for the different types of auth? if i select only one, does it mean that my server will require that specific type of auth? if i select more than one, does it mean that my server will select any of the specified types? what if nothing is checked - is that how you tell it to allow unauthenticated users to connect?
5b) do the above auth settings apply both types of incoming smtp connections i described above? how can i configure it so as require smtp authentication from clients but not from servers connecting from other networks to deliver mail to my domain?
