Securely sending connection string to swf?

ok so when i need to connect a swf to some sort of data
source on the server be it XML, a .NET DLL, a CFC or what ever so
that i can load data from a database or what ever, everyone is
always saying that i shouldn't hard code the connection string into
my actionscript as anyone can get it and do malicious things with
it.
So how should i load the connection string into flash. if i
put them on the server in an XML file or somthing like that then i
still need to put a connection string into the actionscript in
order to load in my main connection strings into the actionscript.
Basically i need to know how to load an external string into
a swf without anyone else being able to get hold of that string for
them selves.
i realy need help with this because i am developing an app
for somone and i need it to connect to a database and i need it to
be secure. i have everything sorted except making the connection
string to the database unstealable.

Why aren't you just using regular form submissions to send
data and regular string data or xml to load data?
I don't think you can hide anything from the user. I think
you have to handle security serverside and the client only gets to
see his own user/pass and whatever data you send to him.

That is a broad question. Are you referring to connections to data sources, or recognizing user IDs for site logins? If the former, you can configure the database logins (with some caveats) within the secure CF Administrator, and never have to pass credentials directly in your CFML code. As for user IDs for logins, if you configure your webserver (IIS) to use Windows Authentication via NTLM, Coldfusion will receive the Windows login and make it acccessible to you via CGI variables.

Where to place safely connection string

Dear all,
I have build a desktop application which use actually an SQL server express 2008 R2 database accessible from the application through WCF endpoints. WCF endpoint are hosted in a Windows Service and contain the necessary connection string as Windows Authentication
so far.
We are now study the possibility to move our database to SQL azure in a simple manner. For that we have 2 possiblities
1 - The Windows Service host for WCF services for database connection remain local the to the PC running the application and then we change the connection string authentication method to SQL authentication but then user and password will be clearly visible
in config file
2 - We move the WCF service host somewhere in Azure but I guess it will be extra cost because they can be quite many hit to those end point due to the quantity of data the application may require
3 - Is there an other way to hide the connection string in Azure ?

I'm new to consuming web services in JDeveloper. I'm using Oracle JDEV 10.1.3.3/OC4J. I'm using this version since it is compatible with Oracle EBS 12.1.3. My intent is to pull data from our third party recruitment app (Success Factors) and load that data into Oracle HRIS. I'm already doing this through a .NET application. I'm converting it to be a Java Concurrent Program in EBS. The code listed below is a stub call to verify I'm on the right track. I created a JDeveloper Web Services proxy project. I'm testing it locally on my windows desktop. When I'm able to consume the service successfully, then I'll think about moving it to the EBS server.
I'm getting the following error when I invoke the following service:
HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: String index out of range: -7

The other end is throwing back a programming error.
That might be because you are sending incorrect data and the other end fails to validate it.
You might be able to guess based on your C# code. But, since you are using soap one generic solution is available to you.
- Get an http proxy interceptor like wireshark.
- Run it while your C# app runs, collect the http requests from that.
- Run it while running your java code, collect the http requests from that.

Hello, I have a sql 2005 server, and I am a developer, with the database on my own machine. It alwayws works for me but after some minutes the other developer cant work in the application
He got this error

and When I see the log event after that error, it comes with another error.

He has IIS5 and me too.
I created a user on the domain called ASPSYS with password, then in the IIS on anonymous authentication I put that user with that password, and it works, on both machines.

I've already ensured that the server is set to mixed authentication mode. Oddly enough, the workaround that I've found is that if I remote desktop into the server, log in and then log back out, Management Studio is suddenly able to connect again. No idea why it works.
As I said before, it is intermitten. Some days it errors on login, other days it doesn't and there are no configuration changes between them. Also, both client and server are in the same domain and same site so there is no VPN or anything in between. I'm really quite stumped. Any help would be great, or if you can point me in the right direction of where to look. Thank you in advance!

You may possibly modified the oc4j-ra.xml file in the stand-alone directory instead of the file under the OC4J_BPEL directory in midtier.
Currently, we are seeing some issues with the sample in midtier. So you may like to wait for the GA release [ mid May] for trying out this sample.

Hello there, I have an application that I'd like to upload on Azure (I have the free subscription, not that it matters anyway) and this application connects to a database where I store a few bits of data (only text based entries so really small). Now, on
my localhost, this is the function that handles the connection:

The connection strings for different drivers are available in the azure portal. After creating the database, navigate to the database dashboard (click on the database name in the overview list). On the right hand side you will find a few links, one of them
is called 'Show connection strings'.
Before attempting to connect you should also make sure you have the firewall rules configured correctly.

How should load sensitive connection strings

ok so when i need to connect a swf to some sort of data
source on the server be it XML, a .NET DLL, a CFC or what ever so
that i can load data from a database or what ever, everyone is
always saying that i shouldn't hard code the connection string into
my actionscript as anyone can get it and do malicious things with
it.
So how should i load the connection string into flash. if i
put them on the server in an XML file or somthing like that then i
still need to put a connection string into the actionscript in
order to load in my main connection strings into the actionscript.
Basically i need to know how to load an external string into
a swf without anyone else being able to get hold of that string for
them selves.
i realy need help with this because i am developing an app
for somone and i need it to connect to a database and i need it to
be secure. i have everything sorted except making the connection
string to the database unstealable.

1. The "GLOBAL.ASA" in ASP3 become "GLOBAL.ASAX" on ASP.Net and it is not the equivalent of web.config. ASP3 do not have an equivalent as this is dynamic tech and By default there is no precompile/compile action as in Dot.Net
2. You can just move a text file which include the connection string outside the site's folder as we used to do 15 years ago when we used Microsoft Access as a database (When we need small database, before the SQL EXPRESS). This way there is no direct
URL to get to file!
* There are several option of restrict the use of a file in ASP3 and in the IIS configuration. check if this is what you want (restrict the use of a specific file/folder)
3. robot.txt is only for searching engine which keep "nice behavior". it do not stop any application including search engine from getting the file.

Deployment from 11g to 10g connection string cannot get provider error.

Hi, I'm doing a deployment from oracle client 11g to 10g. Is this possible? there are yes and no answer I have try out from the forum. All did not workout with any of the configuration setup.
For development I am using VS2012, MVC 4. EF 4. Oracle 11g
The server is currently running Oracle 10g with Oracle.Dataaccess.dll 10.2.0.100

1. Enviroment Variables path is set to the 10.../client_1/
2. Tnsname.ora already configured.
3. machine.config did not define the connection string path, as it is define in the web.config
4. Oracle.Dataaccess.dll is in the bin of my application website (v4.112.3.0).

Connection string to insert data to Oracle DB

Hay guys,
Now I am facing the problem to insert data to the oracle db. I already connect the db to my netbeans service tag & also found the db & tables. But does not know how to insert, delete etc from my JSF pages. I send my JSF code. You guys tell me in which position in the code I will set the connection string, as well as the pattern of connection string. You guys found that I add a button name "show". I want that when I press the "show" button then the relative data will show in the corresponding textfield. I would like to mention that my database server ip is "192.168.56.2". And my netbeans installed pc's ip is "192.168.56.1". My oracle SID is "orcl", user name: "Asystem", Password: "abc123", and the table I want to access is "user_info". Please guys help me.....

im not sure if you can make a query directly from your jsf,
but its a better practice to do that in your backing bean

Report Designer odbc connection string for data source using a parameter

I am using stand alone report designer 3 for the present and have a question/problem regarding the odbc connection string for MySQL when setting up the data-source
I need to be able to enter a parameter which is the database name i.e. BOE-201401 or say BOE-201312 etc from a list of databases the user can choose from.
at present the odbc connection string points to BOE-201402
the connection string is at present Dsn=Development Server for MYsql;description=MYSQL;server=ldndw01;database=BOE-201402;port=3306
my parameter has the name BOE_DATABASE
and in an expression it is as such
=Parameters!BOE_DATABASE.Value
I want to point the datasource for the report to the parameter value before the user sees the report.

Based on your description, we want to design a report with a dynamic DataSource connection string. There are the basic steps below for your reference:
Create report with static database.
Change data source to report parameter.
Send new database connection string as a report parameter.

How to set ApplicationIntent=ReadOnly in Connection String for SharePoint 2013

SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012 allows us some additional options to create HA and DR sites through AlwaysOn Availablibity Groups and Listeners. Problem that I'm having is that I have a DR site that is at a different location. Microsoft
recommends not to stretch the farm across different locations, so I've created a separate farm for DR. I have my content database in an Availability Group so that is Asynchronously commits data changes across the 2 locations. My DR site
connects to the content database through a Listener.
Since the DR site is connecting to the content database through the Listener, it is connecting the primary replica. In order to connect to the Read Only secondary replica, I need to add "ApplicationIntent=ReadOnly"
to the connection string. How do you do that?

It supports a secondary being Readable, that is all it is telling you. It does not support, nor implement, Read-Intent. This is expected behavior. You can look at the Conn Strings via PowerShell, of course:

$db.DatabaseConnectionString

Using variable in connection string returns 0 for variable.

hi all- I am pulling data from a visual forxpro database and the connection string is as follows:
Data Source=\\ServerName\FolderName\AR;User ID=Domain\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;
I created a variable called CurrentARPath and stored the path
\\ServerName\FolderName\AR
I then tried using this variable in the Expression property of the connection string as follows:
"Data Source="+(DT_WSTR, 20)@[User::CurrentARPath] + ";User ID=Domain\\svcAct;Provider=VFPOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=True;"
However, the above expression is evaluating the variable to 0 as shown below; this is causing the connection in connection manager to go down(offline) and the OLED data source is complaining.

there are no configurations on the connection string. one thing that i should mention is that i have created a variable called ArPath of type object and using it in the for each loop container. this variable gets populated using an execute SQL statement.
i am then mapping the vale from ArPath to CurrentARPath in the loop container.
Package protection level is default(encrypt sensitive)

Change local connection string on remote server

Hello,
I have searched every post and tried every connection string there but can't figure out how to connect to my database on my remote server. I am using Visual Developer 2005 Express Edition in C# and uploading it to a Windows server running asp.net 2.0. The domain has not resolved yet.
I am so new to this and have followed many tutorials step by step but none of them address this issue. They just show how to upload it to the server.
Do I need to use the SQL server provided by my host or can the database stay in the App_Data folder?
My local connection string works locally:
