Security e-mail

Hi..l just got an e-mail that l dont trust a lot of mails..l want to be sure that its from Apple...Is it???

A couple of obvious things other than the return address:
"Dears ," (why is this in bold?)
"Apple Security Department". (no such entity exists).
Apple would never ask someone to verify email address in such a manner.

  • How to customize initial secure e-mail notification message

Can we customize the initial secure e-mail notification message with a company logo or any kind of text?
    The one that says:
You have received a secure message
Read your secure message by opening the attachment, securedoc.html. You will be prompted to open (view) the file or save (download) it to your computer. For best results, save the file first, then open it in a Web browser. To access from a mobile device, forward this message to [email protected] to receive a mobile login URL.
If you have concerns about the validity of this message, contact the sender directly.
First time users - will need to register after opening the attachment.
    Help - https://res.cisco.com/websafe/help?topic=RegEnvelope
About Cisco Registered Email Service - https://res.cisco.com/websafe/about
Basically we want to put our company logo to the top of this message. We already have our company logo added in CRES that shows up when you open the securedoc.html file.
    Thanks!

    Nevermind, I found it.
Mail Policies > Text Resources > Add Text Resource
Set the type as Encryption Notification Template (HTML), edit the HTML and then also add one with a type Encryption Notification Template (text), edit the text. Then go into the Security Services > IronPort E-Mail Encryption > modify the Encryption profile and choose the new Text Resources created above.
Under Text Resources I was also able to create custom bounce messages with variables that display all the relevant information regarding the bounce.

  • Is it possible to ask for consent for disclosure on secure e-mail?

We are in the financial industry, plagued by many obscure and mundane regulatory compliance restrictions.  In order for us to send electronic documents out IronPort, the firm that handles our compliance states that the end user must consent to receiving this first, only electronically.  A phone call is not enough.
So they want it so that our IronPort sends them an I Consent or a I do not Consent radio/button/link/ etc.. in an e-mail.  If an only if they "Consent", that they be taken to a page to log in and decrypt that e-mail.  For compliance purposes, we need to keep a record of those who consent to viewing disclosures and other documents electronically.
I was thinking of changing the wording on the initial e-mail "You have recieved a secure e-mail" to add the regulatory required language that states, by downloading and reviewing this message, you automatically concent to ..." , etc..  Then using read reciepts we would be able to see if they opened the message, they obviously agree.
Sounds good to me, but our compliance firm wants to see if we can do it the other way first.  Can IronPort send a radio button or an I agree / I disagree button?

The ability to send a separate "Consent for Disclosure" email that proceeds the securedoc.html/secure envelope, is not possible.  It's just not built into the system.  You may want to file a feature request for that.
In the interim, you can do like you suggested.  Like in the screenshot below, if you modify both the Encryption Envelope html/text body and use that instead of the System Default, then at least you can say you made a good attempt to satisfy that requirement.
    Here are the basic instructions:
    1.  Mail Policies > text resources > Encryption Notification Template (HTML) and Encryption Notification Template (TEXT)
    2.  Add whatever "Consent for Disclosure" your company wants
    3.  Then go to "Security Services > Encryption Profile" and select the new text resource templates that you created.
    4.  You can make the font/text red and a larger font so that it stands out.  You may want to even re-word the entire template as you see fit.
    Good luck.
Let me know if you have questions.

  • I can't receive security info mail

I can't receive security info mail from appleid. I have tried many times, but still failed ( I have checked my gmail for 10 times at least...).

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • Securing Apple Mail services?

    Hi,
I've got an PPC Xserve with OS 10.4.11 and I'm using it as a mail server (for Mac and Windows users, via IMAP, Webmail and, rarely, POP3).
Right now, in order for everyone to have access to it, I've selected 'plain' and 'clear' under IMAP, 'clear' under POP and nothing under SMTP.
We also don't use SSL (yet).
What exactly would I have to do to really secure this mail server? (buy a SSL certificate to start I guess ;))
And what would change on the client machines? I guess their IMAP, SMTP and/or POP settings will have to be adjusted?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi
A great resource for OSX Server's Mail Service:

Most people looking to secure Mail Service's generally start with:

    http://osx.topicdesk.com/component/option,com_weblinks/catid,19/Itemid,76/
There is lots of useful information on the relevant Mail Board. I'm not associated with the site in any way and if you use it consider a donation. You could also try learning more about Postfix:

If all this seems hard/difficult consider using an Apple Mail Server Specialist. OSX Topic Desk has helped out many people in the past as has this site:

  • Dont know security answers or security e-mail address

So i am trying to use my apple id on my apple tv(netflix), ipad, iphone, imac but everytime i try to log on and use or buy something it asks me for my secuirty answers which i have no clue what are and i also have no clue what the security e-mail address is, it is none of my old ones and not a old email from a family member. What can i do to reset the questions and/or email and begin using the app store or logging in on my devices?

Welcome to the Apple community Sindri.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • Need to change my security e-mail as the account i was previousily using has been deleted

i need to change my security e-mail address as the account i was previousily using using has been deleted. I've been wanting to buy a few albums in iTunes before i go away (no reception in the area I'm going).
just someone please, please help me!

If you know the answers to your security questions, then from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 :
Navigate to appleid.apple.com using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
    Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
After you've validated your identity by correctly answering your security questions, click Edit to the right of your rescue email address.
Once you've finished editing your rescue email address, click the Save button directly below the email field.
If you can't remember your answers then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset, before you can then use the above steps for potential future use.

  • Security e-mail sent to the wrong email

I originally created an apple profile with a hotmail account, but after it was hacked, I changed it gmail. The gmail address is shown as my primary and only e-mail address in appleid. I recently got a new phone and I was trying to purchase apps on it, but apple wants to verify my identity. Now my security question answers are all wrong, and when I try to update them, apple wants to send the security e-mail to a hotmail address.
How do I get them to send it to the gmail address.

You won't be able to change the rescue email address that you put on your account until you can answer your questions - and you won't be able to set it to be the same as any other email address that is on the account, it has to be a different address. You will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : Contact Apple for help with Apple ID account security
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with : https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
When they've been reset you can then view and/or change your rescue email address for potential future use : Manage your Apple ID primary, rescue, alternate, and notification email addresses
Or if it's available in your country you could change to 2-step verification : Frequently asked questions about two-step verification for Apple ID

  • Secure E-mail

    Hi,
Does anyone know if its possible to get my thawte certificates onto my iPod so I can read mail people have sent me that are encrytped??
I'm not fussed with encrypting outgoing mail, I just want to read my own mail!!! I understand this will mean that my private key is held on a mobile device that might be stolen.
    James.

Yes, your original statement is correct concerning sending secure emails from a company's mailserver.
One option you have is the Cisco Registered Envelope Service(CRES), that is handled by Cisco Systems and Ironport Systems.
The sender of the email needs to get registered first, but once they're registered they can send secure emails by going to https://res.cisco.com
Here are some articles that explain how CRES works and some FAQ's:
    1. https://res.cisco.com/websafe/help?topic=RegEnvelope
    2. https://res.cisco.com/websafe/help?topic=FAQ
My company wants to provide a way for external users to send secure mail to us.
My understanding is that the IronPort Secure E-mail solution is only for Outgoing mail, is that true?
If so, what are some of the solutions that we could/should evaluate?
    THANKS.

  • After last security update, Mail quits when trying to save and attach

Software Update installed the last security update.
Ever since, Mail quits when I try to save a message, save an attachment, copy a message and attach a file.
These are the only problems that Update caused.
Might it have to do with Java?
If so, which files must I erase so that I can re-install Java Release 6?
    What do I do?
    Firehat

Sheila, I'd try these two steps first, then maybe reapply the last update by downloading it from apple downloads instead of SW Update...
