Security Update 2007-004 will not load

Software updates has encouraged installation of Security update 2007-004 several times. Each time an error message occurs saying a networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). I am connected to the internet with no problems.
Given that there seems to be so much trouble associated with that particular update, I'm wondering if I can just ignore it, and will I still be notified and able to install future updates?

Hi
I can't explain the network error timeout, but want to reassure you that if you ignore any update, it does not prevent any future update from being offered to you.
You could try an download it separately from
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
and select the third one down, namely,
Security Update 2007-004 v1.1 (PPC) 9.1MB
and when doing the installation allow the process to complete without using any other applications open. Just wait for it to finish.

  • Security Update 2007-009 will not install

I ran the Software Update utility and found Security Update 2007-009. When I tried to install it, it gave me the following error message:
The update "Security Update 2007-009" can't be saved.
You do not have appropriate access privileges.
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash.
To try again, open the package from the Finder.
I am logged in as an Administrator level user, and I tried to re-run the updater, but got the same result. This also happened on my MacBook.
Anyone else having this error? Any resolutions?

    Which version? 1.0 or 1.1??
    It may already be installed.
Go to Software Updates in SysPrefs and check the list of installed updates.

  • Security Update 2007 006 will not install!

I downloaded the newly released Security update (Intel) and tried to install it on my 24" Intel iMac. I was immediately informed that my volume "does not meet the requirements for this update" and it refused to go farther.
Has anyone an idea what is going on here?
    Griff

Here is what worked for me.
Run Safari 3.0 installer and choose uninstall. Then, after a restart, either use the Apple software program in Tiger or download the updater for your machine. Either should install.
Evidently, the Safari installer had already put the fix on my computer, but since I have a lot of time to kill, this gave me the peace of mind that the whole fix is installed.
Then you can reinstal Safari Beta, if you really want it.
Personally I am going to wait until Fall and get 10.5.

  • Prey game not launching after Security Update 2007-004

After applying Apple Security Update 2007-004, Prey (Mac version) is not launching and continuously crashes on my computer. I have uninstalled all game files and reinstalled the game from the original DVD but with no success. Repairing disc permissions, updating prebindings and other usual maintainence meaures are unfortunately not helping. I have an external USB hard disc running Mac OS 10.4.9 without the Security Update applied and Prey works properly when my computer boots up from this external hard drive. It is therefore apparent that Apple Security Update 2007-004 has most probably caused Prey to become non-functional as prior to this the game was working without any problems whatsoever.
Has anyone else expereinced this problem and are there any suggestions?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Contact the game author's site and report it so they can update it.

  • Security Update 2007-004 v1.1 did not fix connectivity after sleep

I installed the new security update (2007-004 v1.1) which was supposed to fix airport cards from disconnecting from their wireless network after sleep...but it didn't fix the problem. Is anyone else STILL having trouble?

I was having the same problem with connectivity after sleep, but once I used the Security Update 2007-004 v1.1 I no longer that THAT problem, but now I have another,....
in MAIL, there is definitely a 'long' pause before graphics are displayed. Or while using Safari, the text for a new page will display fairly quickly, but again there is a 'long' pause before the graphics show up. I am comparing the time before the first 2007-004 update and now. Before, the graphics downloaded fairly quickly. In the MAIL program, just clicking on an email caused the graphics to appear, in fact, they were just THERE. But now, again there is that longish pause before they appear.
Has this happened to anyone else? And ideas what I can do?

  • Security Update 2007-004 v1.1

I thought that I was being a fool after I installed the new v1.1 of the be-deviled Security Update 2007-004. But, IT WORKS JUST FINE on my TiBook G4 running OSX 10.3.9 with a Linksys wireless router.
When I installed the original 2007-004, it trashed my wireless connectivity when waking my book up from sleep, just like it did for thousands of others, as reflected in posts here. I was forced to install and revert to 10.3.9 without any security updates by installing the 10.3.9 comboupdater as suggested by some brilliant users here, in order to restore wireless connectivity.
I called Apple and let them know of the problem (they said that they hadn't heard of any problems......RIGHT......). I kept checking software update until I saw the v1.1 fix was being pushed, and in a blind act of faith, I said a prayer and installed it, figuring I could always go back to 10.3.9 if the new one was still buggy.
I want to tell you that the new one (v1.1) worked like a charm, with a flawless install, and wireless connectivity both on launch as well as on waking up seems better than ever. I DID do a disk permissions repair before installing this updater, this time though.
Though my confidence in Apple has been seriously shaken by this nightmare of the original Security Update 2007-004, this one seems to work just fine in all the tests that I've put my faithful TiBook through since I installed it.

    Hi Chuck!
Thank you so much for posting, that the newer version of the SU works so well!
I'm sure it will put a number of users at ease.
I have been holding off on installation, but I will not go ahead with the update.
    Thanks Again!
EDIT: I would just like to add that, while installing the update, it is better if one does not use the Mac, for the duration of the install.

  • Security Update - 2007-004 does it Bork iCal?

I have just applied the new Security Update (2007-004) that was released this morning, and since then both my Intel Macs refuse to load iCal, with an exception generated during loading.

I've also downloaded the security update, and when attempting to publish my ICal, I get a little window advising *"Your .Mac account Configuration is not correct. Calendar could not be published. Your .Mac account information is not correct. You cannot publish to .Mac until you have configured your .mac account" and below are 2 buttons marked 'Cancel' and 'Open .Mac Preferences*'.
When I click on 'Open .Mac preferences' I get the System Preferences pane for .Mac accounts which is of no use whatsoever because it gives me the choice of opening an account which I already have.
What I need to know is, how do I configure my account when there are no clues as to how to do it.

  • !!! Security Update 2007-004 (PPC) causes crashes !!!

After i downloaded the Security Update 2007-004 (PPC) mail and safari refuse to quit. Only force-quit works for these apps.
Also after downloading and installing the update, the computer restarted and got stuck in a startup loop which i force-quitted after 15 minutes or so. After the forced restart the computer started normally but mail and safari seem te be broken. I ran MainMenu for maintenance.
I read several posts on various locations reporting similar problems.
Anyone a solution for fixing my mail and safari?
Can I revert the last update?
will there be a fix posted?
    i use a powerbook G4 15ii OS 10.4.9

    Hi Jelle2
    Welcome to Discussions.
To answer your questions in reverse:
    Will there be a fix?
I don't think there is a problem with that update for Tiger. The problem is avoided when during the optimization phase of Software Update, that process is allowed to run uninterrupted. So if you were using mail and safari whilst also doing the Software Update, then that may be the cause of your current problem.
Can I revert the last Update?
Updates cannot be reversed except by reinstalling the OS, and not doing the Security Update 2007-004. But as I have said there in nothing inherently wrong with that update, just the way it has been installed.
Anyone a solution for fixing my mail and safari?
I would run Repair Disk from the Install DVD as per this guide:
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart, then continue to hold down the C key until the Apple logo appears.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to Utilities and navigate to the Disk Utilities application.
Select the start up drive, then follow the instructions in the First Aid pane where you can click on Repair Disk .
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.
Once restarted normally run Repair Permissions. from the Disk Utility application found on your hard drive in Application/Utilities.

  • Mail (and Safari) won't open after Security Update 2007-004

I have a PowerBook G4 running 10.3.9. The machine was running fine (I was checking mail, browsing the web) when my weekly scheduled update opened. Per it's suggestion, I installed Security Update 2007-004.
Upon restart, both Mail and Safari will NOT open. The icon for each on the dock simply "bounces" once when clicked then nothing else. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any thoughts on a fix?

Installing a system update while you continue using the computer as if nothing was going on there is a really bad idea.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Security Update, which may not have been installed properly. It may also be necessary to reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1

well i hope it didnt mess anything up ? i have applied the Apple Security Updater 2007-004 1.1 not under software update but from a download at macupdate pages i later found out that this update was not for my system as it didnt show up in SU i was wondering if there will be any downfall from from applying it or it just re-applied the same update from the most previous version and the install for other systems was slightly modified ???
thanks for your time and help

I installed the update yesterday, then went home. Today when I booted up the computer I had some weird things happen.
A.) The dual monitor display is reversed. It only straightens out if I physically switch the plugs from each monitor on the back of the G-4. I've never had any problem with dual monitors before on this trusty old work-horse. I'm using old CRT 17" Mags. But I had a Samsung 203B hooked up. That used to work, now it doesn't line up straight, and won't show up as a left monitor either unless I switch the plugs.
B.) In final Cut Pro the program no longer recognizes my player. I use two, a Canon XM1 and a Sony DSR 20. I can control the canon but get no display.
Funny stuff since the upgrade yesterday. But now what do I do?
    Thanks

  • Airport Problems after Security Update 2007-004

Ever since I've installed Security Update 2007-004 my Airport connection has been dropping about every 15 to 30 minutes. Sometimes Airport will stay connected but will stop working until I renew my DHCP lease (I get the same IP though). When it drops I click on the Airport icon to reconnect but my network doesn't always show up. Sometimes I have to turn Airport off and back on again to make it show up, and a few times I've had to reset my computer to make it show up.
I have a MacBook Pro with an 802.11n card. I'm using two different routers; one at work, and one at home. The work router is a Linksys N router while the one at home is a Linksys G router.
I've tried all the tricks. Repairing Permissions, deleting the extension caches, installing the standalone updater, but nothing is working.

Deleting AppleAirPort2.kext solved the problem for some...

  • Security Update 2007-004: Be advised of FTP access turned off

After installing security update 2007-004, I could not get either of my Nikon D2Xs to upload photos to my computer via their WT-1 wireless transmitters. I spent hours troubleshooting the problem. It turned out that FTP access in the Sharing system preferences panel had been turned off which disallowed the camera to transmit the photos to a designated folder on my MBP. I wish I had checked that earlier.

I noticed that too, and it's not limited to MBPs or even Intel Macs: it happened on my dual 1 GHz PowerMac G4. Look on the bright side: at least the update didn't turn on any service you wanted off.

  • Security update 2007-004 boots into Darwin!?

I have an iBook G4 running Tiger. I regularly use auto updates so it is completely up to date. Yesterday I installed security update 2007-004 and now after logging in with my id and password the computer boots into Darwin!
I booted up from the Tiger install CD, ran 'disk permissions' and 'disk repair', then booted back to Tiger on my hard drive and... it still booted into Darwin.
Darwin asks for a user ID and password. I use my ID and password and it takes me to a prompt that's very similar to MS-DOS, meaning a colon followed by blinking cursor, waiting for my to type a command.
How do I fix this, and why did it happen?
FYI, my computer crashed a lot after the previous security update, but nothing this bad.
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Make sure you have a backup first. If you do an Archive & Install (remember to tick Preserve Network & User Settings), the computer will move everything into a folder called Previous System Folder. Move whatever you need out of that folder, then trash it. I don't know if A&I saves actual files or just preference settings etc.
Try putting "Security Update Darwin' into the search field, you should get some hits, if I find any myself I'll post them.
When you've got to the prompt, have you tried typing 'exit' or 'reboot'?

  • After downloading latest quicktime update, itunes store will not load

Has anyone had this same problem after downloading latest quicktime update. iTunes store will not load.

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes.   I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.
