See Also keywords missing
I am using RoboHelp HTML X5.0.2. I have a project that I at
some point converted from WinHelp and have been working with for
many years.
Yesterday I should work with the See Also-keywords in the
project, but discovered that the keyword list was empty. When I
open the topic properties, I can see the See Also keyword(s)
connected to that topic. I can also see the list of keywords when I
open the properties of the See Also design-time control.
I tried adding a new keyword to a topic, and that keyword
showed up in the list. There was created a new file called
rhakeyword.apj which contains the keyword I added.
I renamed and opened the project file in Access, and could
see the list of keywords there. The one keyword I had added was
listed with a positive ID (1) while the other keywords had negative
IDs (-1 etc).
I tried searching the forum archives and the HATT archives,
but I couldn't find anything similar or relevant. Anyone has any
idea what has happened here, or what I can do to get my keywords
back?
Regards,
Rannveig Østevik
I was able to solve the problem by manually editing the
rhakeyword.apj file. I hadn't so many See Also-keyword, so it was
possible to add them there. All links to the keywords were restored
when I added the keywords to this file.
Before that I tried rebuilding the CPD-file, but that didn't
add the keywords to the See Also tab. If I tried to add the
keywords manually in the RoboHelp UI, I got an error messag that
the keyword already existed.

Remote URLs for See Also Keyword Topics
I am having difficulty entering a remote URL as a topic
destination for a See Also Keyword. With the appropriate See Also
Keyword selected, I click the New Keyword Topic icon. One of the
available dropdown options for the Keyword Topic Destination is
"Remote URLs." However, when that is selected, the "Link To" field
at the bottom of the form is unavailable.
I also used the Find Topic feature to attempt a search for
topics in a separate help project, and the only returns provided by
RoboHelp were for topics that existed in the currently open
project.
Is there some setup option or something I'm missing?Welcome to our community, S_Reynolds
One option you would have at your beckon call would be to
create simple redirect topics that point to the remote URLs. Then
link those to the See Also keywords.

Hi all.
I have a See Also keyword that is not showing up in the See
Also Pod. I know I have previously created it but it does not show
up.
If I try to create it again, RoboHelp prevents me from doing
so indicating that it already exists. When I open a See Also button
that I have added the keyword to previously, I see the keyword in
there.
The big problem is that I have no way of adding topics to the
keyword.Hi there
Perhaps try closing the project, deleting the CPD file and
re-opening the project. See if those steps resurrect the keyword.
If not, we may need more invasive measures. But that's the easiest
approach to begin with.

Although I have read the help file, I must be missing
something. I am trying to add see also groupings for my topic. So
far I have created the see also control, I have added a see also
text? to the topic properties tab but I have been unable to
determine how to link the item I listed as the see also to a
particular topic.
I know i have had a fair number of questions, I am new to
this software after a year or two away without ever having has much
experience to begin with. I appreciate your patience and thank you
in advance for your help.Hi all
Perhaps I might offer some insight here. I see that Colum
correctly indicated the basic steps, but there seems to be a bit of
confusion. I think I may know why.
Here are my own basic steps.
1. Create See Also keywords
2. Assign them to topics
3. Insert See Also controls that point to the keywords
Here is where you are probably confused. How exactly to
define and assign the See Also keywords. You should be doing this
using the Index designer. So click the Index tab (hoping here you
are using version 6 or older-please advise if you are using 7, as
the process may be a tad different and need further explanation)
From the Index tab, look at the top of the Index designer and
you see a drop-down that you click and have two choices. Index and
See Also. If you choose See Also, the main part of the Index
designer changes. Once there, you add See Also keywords. You then
display the Topic list on the right side and drag desired topics
from the list on the right, into the Topics For area at the bottom
of the See Also designer.
After you do this, your See Also control insertion should be
pretty straightforward.
Hopefully this helps... Rick -
Believe me. I have looked at help. Its not that......
helpful, sometimes.
Let me tell you what I have:
1. In the topic properties on the See Also tab I have added
the term 'white listing'
( as in email)
2. Using the See Also "tool" (alternate to index) I have
added text white listing and dragged two topics to the Topics for:
area, lets say the topics are Blocking Senders and Spam Management
3. I have added a see also control to the topic referred to
in #1 above
4. In the properties of the See Also on the Link Options tab
I have selected Button, Popup menu and default for the window and
frame
5. On the See Also tab of the See Also properties there are
three items in the See Also keywords in project, they are black
list, linking and white listing. I have added white listing to the
See Also keywords control area.
After generating the layout, which is in the webhelp format I
do see the button but when clicked it jumps automatically to the
Spam Management topic. It does not list Blocking Senders and Spam
Management as I expected, which are the related topics.
Can you provide instruction? Thanks in advance.
BTW, just wondering, are most of the forum folks technical
writers by trade or developers????
DaveHi Dave
One thing that is way cool is that the See Also control has
intelligence. Assume you have three topics assigned. You are
viewing one of the three. The popup menu will only list the other
two, because the topic being displayed really doesn't need to be
there. After all, you are in the topic!
As you only have two topics assigned, the control is also
exhibiting more intelligence in just linking the user over to the
other topic as opposed to presenting a popup, then forcing them to
click a second time to visit the only other topic.
Hopefully this helps... Rick -
Multiple issues with See Also controls when importing topics (RoboHelp 9)
I was wondering if anyone has found workarounds to a very flaky area of RoboHelp...
Suppose you create several topics A, B, C and D, each with a See Also control in it. Let's suppose all the topics are assigned to the same See Also keyword, say 'Alphabet'. At a later date you create a new project, and need to import your old topics. The following problems arise:
1) When the topics are imported, RoboHelp does not recreate the 'Alphabet' See Also keyword in the See Also pod. However, the See Also functionality works (sort of) when the project is built. It is not possible to manually add the 'Alphabet' keyword in the See Also pod, because RoboHelp tells you it already exists! The result is an invisible 'Alphabet' See Also keyword, to which you cannot add further topics. As a workaround, I found it is essential to manually add the 'Alphabet' See Also keyword BEFORE importing the topics, and RoboHelp will then correctly assign A, B, C and D to it. However, this can be very awkward if you have hundreds of topics to import and are not sure what See Also keywords the topics reference.
2) When the topics are imported and the project is built, the See Also control does not work as expected. In RoboHelp, right-clicking the See Also control and choosing See Also [] Properties... reveals that the options you previously set, such as 'Popup menu' or "If no topics are associated with any of the See Also keywords..." have been lost! So all those nasty Topics Found dialogs return when you build the help (instead of popups). If you have a See Also control placed in every topic for consistency, it will never grey out if the topic doesn't belong to any See Also keywords.
3) When the topics are imported and the project is built, the current topic's name appears in its own list of See Also topics, i.e. it self-references. So for example, if you are viewing topic A and click the See Also link, topics A, B, C and D are listed, instead of just B, C and D. However, when you create new See Also keywords in RoboHelp, assign topics, and build the help, they work correctly and do not show the calling topic's name.
I spent hours analysing the HTML code of files I am importing, and the code of brand new topics created in RoboHelp, and I can see no obvious differences apart from some -1/0/1 flags in the green Metadata section preceding the SeeAlso code. I even tried changing these flags in my import files to exactly match the flags of new topics that RoboHelp just built, but when importing they still don't work. Clearly RoboHelp stores crucial See Also information elsewhere in the project, but does not make this reliably transportable by adding it to the HTM files that it builds, despite the huge Metadata comment block.
Adobe needs to put a lot of work into making it possible to cleanly re-use files as content re-use is a very common, and often critical, requirement.Hi there
After reading your post, I come away being unsure about your goal. Is the goal here to simply advise others as to what they may encounter using the See Also functionality? Or is your goal to advise Adobe about what you would like to see changed?
If your goal is to advise Adobe about what you would like to see changed, you need to visit the Wish Form at www.adobe.com/go/wish and file an official request. Otherwise, it just gives you a nice warm glow that you had your say here. But it won't have much of any effect on the product.
As far as any workarounds, I might suggest the following. You seem to be regularly creating a new projects and importing content. And if that's the case, I might suggest you create a template project that would already have these things in place so that as you add content, the expected keywords and links and whatnot are already in place. My thought is that this action would ease much of the frustration you are facing.

Using RoboHelp 9.0.2.271
Chrome browser 32.0.1700.76
Generating WebHelp
Note: Moving this discussion from Adobe Community > RoboHelp > Discussions to this forum (Adobe Community > RoboHelp > WebHelp).
I apologize up front for the duplicate, but the original post was in the wrong forum I think, and I could not find a way to easily change the forum location.
Can someone help, PLEASE?
Can someone point me to a forum post that I have missed that has an answer?
I have searched the forum posts for hours with no success. However, I did find some fixes to other problems related to opening WebHelp using Chrome.
I have a WebHelp project containing See Also links.
The links don’t work in Chrome. The links work as expected in Firefox and Internet Explorer.
The links are not appearing anywhere in the topic, for example, at the top of the topic.
The project is currently stored locally and can be opened.
I stored the project on a network drive, but the links still don’t work.
Is there any chance that the links will work if the project is stored on a Web server? I don’t have access to a Web server to test the links.
I don’t have the luxury of upgrading to RH10, so I hope there is a fix that will work with RH9.
Thanks in advance for any help.@Jeff_Coatsworth
First, thanks for your help.
I have seen the thread you provided, http://forums.adobe.com/message/5775431#5775431#5775431.
Previously, I had added "--allow-file-access-from-files" to a Chrome shortcut as noted in the thread. I can open the project that is stored locally using the customized shortcut.
The See Also links (button) still don’t work.
I had not tried the suggestion to update whproxy.js that is at http://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/kb/webhelp-output-fails-load-chrome.html.
I didn’t try the suggestion because it related to RH10, and I am using RH9.
I have now tried the suggestion.
I downloaded whproxy.js and replaced the file in the output folder as noted.
I cannot view the local project in Chrome using the new whproxy.js file. The page flickers.
I removed "--allow-file-access-from-files" from the customized shortcut, but the project still couldn’t be viewed.
I reverted to my original whproxy.js file and the use of "--allow-file-access-from-files". I can view the project again.
However, the problem still exists with the See Also links. The button is visible but clicking the button does not open the list of topics.
Do you have any other suggestions that I can try? -
When you have several topics assigned to a see also button,
the see also button displays several topics within the pop-up
window in the compiled help. However, if you have only one see also
topic assigned to the button, the button automatically displays the
topic window for that topic. The first time I saw this, I thought
it was a bug. When I've asked other people to test my help
projects, they also think this is a bug.
Is it possible to "make" the see also function display the
pop-up window, regardless of how many topics are assigned to the
button?
thanks in advance,
ChristyGAre you sure that you can change the permissions of symlinks themselves? I think I've tried to make files read-only via symlinks on a local server but ended up using bindfs because it wasn't possible. Even if you can, symlinking everything that might be necessary for a given environment would not be ideal, plus I don't think symlinks can be used across different filesystems.
If a real-life human can figure out if it's he/she is in a chroot and break out of it, then he/she can write a script to do the same. I want a sandbox that could run malicious code with no effect on the system (if that's possible). Also, I think if the chroot idea were truly feasible, makepkg would have been using it for years already to simply install packages in the chroot as you normally would and then package them. There would also be several sandbox applications that could run applications safely. So far I have yet to find any.
I admit that I haven't looked into using a chroot in detail though and of course I may have missed some application which creates such a setup. Right now I think using per-application namespaces with fuse seems the most promising but I won't know until I've finished implementing a test application. If it turns out that it's a dead end I'll take harder look at chroot but it really doesn't seem to be able to do what I want. -
Hi! I need help on RH x5 index.
Here's the problem:
After indexing about 75% of the files in the project, I tried
to publish and everything's working fine. After I indexed all of
the files, everything's messed up.
My primary layout is WebHelp. The first few index keywords
("$300,000" to "Forms") are displaying very well. However, index
keywords following the word "Forms" are all messed up - some are
not showing, some are displayed but parent keywords are missing.
Now, when I try to publish CHM, everything's showing, except
that they're not in alphabetical order. It shows "ZAP" on the top
of the index, and shows "$300,000" as the last entry.
What could be wrong? Is there a limit in file size? Or
probably the number of entries? The size of the HKK file is 469KB.
TIA.I'm no expert, but I've had my index "issues" over the years.
I think anyone wanting to help you will want to know whether you've
tried using the Binary Index setting in the Project Settings.
We have projects with much bigger HHK files than yours, so
that's not the problem.
Have you opened up the HHK file in Notepad (or other text
editor) and taken a look?
We had the type of problem you described when we imported
topics from a different project and
those topics had keywords saved in them (instead of in that
project's HHK file. This was caused by a bug in RH X5.
If you did that, I can give you the workaround we used.
(Sorry if the formatting below isn't ideal -- I'm just going to
paste the whole thing in from a different source.)
Warning: It is time-consuming if there are many keywords to
fix.
1. With the project closed, have someone with MS Access open
its .cpd file and print out KKeywordList. From this printout you
can see which keywords are causing the problem, because the
problem-causing keywords have a negative value.
2. Delete the .cpd file.
3. Make a backup copy of rhkkeyword.apj.
4. Using Notepad, open rhkkeyword.apj and add the problem
keywords manually in this format:
<keyword>
<name>Testing</name>
<keywords/>
</keyword>
Multi-level keywords are inserted as follows:
<keyword>
<name>first level keyword</name>
<keywords>
<keyword>
<name>FIRST subkeyword</name>
</keyword>
<keyword>
<name>SECOND subkeyword</name>
<keywords/>
</keyword>
</keywords>
</keyword>
Warning: The
<keywords/> tag occurs only once for each main
keyword, and it occurs after the last subkeyword, if any, as shown
above.
5. Save and close rhkkeyword.apj.
6. Reopen the project and click the Index tab. If RoboHelp
fails to open or crashes, then you know there are syntax errors in
rhkkeyword.apj. Delete the .cpd file, fix rhkkeyword.apj and try
again.
7. When RH's index is displaying properly, check for any
subkeywords whose main keywords are not defined. (These appear
bolded.) For example, if you have "batching\grouping" but not
"batching", add "batching" to a topic.
8. Recompile help and check it carefully.
Hope this helps.

Quick way to apply 'see also' or 'in this section' ??
RH8.02 HTML
Hi all,
I'm wanting to add a See Also/Related Topics/In this Section area to my topics and am looking for a way to do it quickly and automatically.
Does RH provide any quick mechanism to add these to topics, say in the bottom on the page.
Basically I want my main/top pages of a section to contain a set of links that points to the other topics in that section. Is there any quick way to do it, or automate it?
I tried to Insert > See Also, and Related Topics but these all created buttons that opened a window, I would prefer the links to sit in the page if possible.
thanks.
NickHi Nick
If you create a new project in RoboHelp 8, choose the Project Template type of Knowledge Base.
Once you have created the project shell, examine the "What's New" topic. At the bottom of the topic are some instructions that may help.
Cheers... Rick

My iPhone does not notify me of calls in Voice Mail. I will see that I missed a call but there are no messages in VM. Cellular data is off - only voice roaming. Suggestions?
DJTayLo, Let's get your voicemail working! I noticed you metioned that your Cellular Data is off. Visual Voicemail does need to be connected to Cellular Data in order to retreive voicemails for the iPhone. This can cause the notifications to be delayed. When you turn Cellular Data on do the notifications then show correctly? Which model iPhone do you have? We'll figure this out.

Previously, when I have generated a CHM file, I have been
using a hidden See Also control with a text link for "related
topics". In WebHelp this does not seem to work. Is this correct, or
is it in any way possible to use a text link in this way with
WebHelp?
Regards,
Rannveig ØstevikHi Rannveig
Typically it goes like this.
1. Insert RelatedTopics control and note name by hovering the
control. Should be RelatedTopics if it is the first, object1 or
OBJECT1 if the second (depending on how the control was inserted)
2. Select the text your user will click to activate the
control and perform the same steps as if you were linking to
another page.
3. In the Hyperlink dialog, instead of listing the path to
the page, type JavaScript:RelatedTopics.Click(). Note that if the
control name is object1 or OBJECT1, you substitute this for
RelatedTopics.
Hopefully this helps... Rick :) -
I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I can't seem to
change the style of the "See Also" text in the See Also control. I
want it to be consistent with the link style in my help project.
Thanks!Hi WriterBen and Colum
Ben, Colum correctly told you how to accomplish this. But I
have one little tidbit to add.
If you insert more than one "See Also" control on a page, you
will need to be careful about what you do with the script. RoboHelp
HTML normally names the first instance "SeeAlso". But subsequent
instances are named differently. And the exact name used will
depend on how that control is inserted.
If you are inserting them via the menu - Insert > See
Also...
The second will normally be named OBJECT1
The third will normally be named OBJECT2 and so on
If you are inserting them via Copy/Paste
The second will normally be named object1
The third will normally be named object2 and so on
I bring this up because JavaScript gets totally persnickety
with these names. Object1, OBJECT1 and object1 are three different
names to JavaScript. So you need to pay close attention to what
they are named and use the correct name when you type the
JavaScript code. javascript:SeeAlso.Click(); then becomes
javascript:OBJECT1.Click(); or javascript:object1.Click();
Happy Friday all... Rick -
