Select Filter Value

This is an on-going performance issue that I am bogged down with. The best idea would definitely get 10 points and all the other great ideas will be well rewarded for sure! Please help...
The reports on our system run very slow (15 minutes on the average) though our cube has just about 10 million records. What bothers the user the most is that even when they go for "select filter value" on any of the "free characteristics", it takes 10 lazy minutes for the selection screen to show up. We have indices created on the master data and the SAP indices on the Cube dimensions are supposed to be good enough for faster query/selection screen retreival especially when the number of records are just 10 million. RSRV test came out to be fine on DB and cube indices. Any great ideas to improve the time it takes to bring up the selection screen?
Regarding the general query performance, we already have query cache and several aggregates in place. We use BEx, so how effective are the reporting agents on top of these? Please provide some knowledgeable comments to improve the general query performace as well.

The Select Filter Value time almost certainly has to do with the F4 options you have set for those InfoObjects. You can change this for the the InfoObject, or change the setting just for the cube using the Structure Specifc Settings.
Depending on the setting, using F4 for an InfoObject may simply read the Master Data, or it actually interrogates the the master data and the cube to see what values exist, or actually looks to see what values would be available given all the other query criteria. So as you can imagine, the response time of the options can vary a lot.
As far as query performance in general, try searching this forum, you'll find lots of threads. Also try SDN's Performance Tuning Knowledge Center.
I'm assuming you regularly compress the cube(s). Have you verified the aggregates are being used most of the time and confirmed the the value of the aggregate by comparing explain plans.
A lot of issues may relate back to the data model you are using. You can look at adding secondary indices on some of the dimension tables of you have some large dimensions that get receive full table scans because the BW system built index does not relate well to the query restrictions that are actually used.

i have a query with 0plant in the free characteristics
when I do 'select filter value' when it's in the free characteristics -> dump
when 0plant is in the rows and I do 'select filter value' -> dump
when I do 'select filter value' on 0customer that is in the free characteristics -> works fine
In the BEx Analyzer it works fine...
Anybody an idea?

Problem with Select Filter value.......

HI all
We have created a report on Sales cube,and Inserted the Report into work book.
In the report we have 2 Commission codes 1.Customer,2.material.
   when we are trying to select filter values for customer Commission code,we are Gatting the Pop-up window but the system is Getting hanged, it is not showing any values also.
   We thought it is a Bex problem, but when tried other reports it is working fine.
   Suggest me any possible solution to resolve the issue

Little more improvement
After deleting and re creating the indexes, the Filter values are comming but it is taking almost 10-12 min to display the values.

Selecting filter value doesn't work

Hi guys,
I've a random problem on some bex query when I try to slect filter value on navigable info object of the query.
The problem is that I can't select filter value because of the message:
<b><Install error> Missing ActiveX component: Business Expolrer Selektor</b>
Have you never had this kind of problem? Somebody knows how i can solve it.

In BEx, i cant activate the feature "Select Filter Value". In my web template, i've already set "Always Display" and still nothing happens. Can someone please advice? If i run this report in Query designer, it works fine.

We are experiencing the same issue as described. In the definition of the web template the option to display the Select Filter Values is selected but in the execution of the web template the option is not available. Was a resolution over found?

NW04s(SP7/FEP7)-Select Filter value for HIER in 3.XBexAnalyzer doesn't work

We went live with SPS 7/FEP 7 and we are having problem in 3.X Bex Analyzer with "Select Filter Value" for charcteristic having active hierarchy(in this case it is using time dependent hierarchy). (For Eg: Organization Unit)
If I inactivate the hierarchy for organization unit at query level and then execute the query, then "select filter value" works for Organization Unit.
NOTE: I checked other query using hierarchy (not time dependent hierarchy) and I was able to do "select filter value"
Please let me know if any OSS note is available for this issue so that we can fix this issue in our Production Environment.
NOTE: The above issue works in SPS 8/FEP 802 with 3.X Bex Analyzer.

Did you have an asnwer to your problem?
We've a similar problem we had a technical upgrade to BI 7.0. But we still work with the frond end tools of 3.5.
When we select in the Bex analyzer a node in an hierarchy it shows the result, but if want to select an other node we must first remove the old filter. This wasn't when we're on the 3.5 enviroment.
Maybe if the problem is solved, this can help us.

Select filter value..not opening..query hanging

Hi,
I have a queary and it is executing fine. After executing it is displaying data fine. I have company code and two more characterstics in free characterstics section. After executing the report i am doing right click at company code in the excel sheet and selecting the option 'select filter value'. It is then opening the small screen 'selection for company code' but it is not displaying the values. It's keep on running and after some time it is hanging (not responding).
In the company code object hardly there are 60 values. Can anyone tell me why this is taking long time and result in hanging for just 60 values?
This company code object is Authorisation relevant checked in the 'Business Explorer' tab. There is a variable used for this comopany code in the query design and this variable is processed by authorisation. But i dont think this is the reason for the issue. If this is the reason could you please tell me how it effects? Please suggest me the solution.

In the business explorer tab for which one you are asking to change the settings?
Is it for   'query def. filter value selection'
                          OR
             'query execution filter value selection'?
The current status is:
Query Def. filter value selection is 'values in Master data table'                 &
Query Execution filter value selection is 'only posted values for navigation'.
This is not cube but this is ODS. For ODS where do we set DB specfic settings?

Values missing in Navigation block - Select filter value

Hi Experts,
I'm using navigation attribute in query. Query is built over multiprovider. Navigation attribute in query is ZCOMPAN01__ZSALES_RG. In multiprovider I use two cubes as sources and from first cube I assigned nav. attribute ZCOMPAN01__ZSALES_RG and from second cube I assigned SCUSTSAL1__ZSALES_RG.
When I click in query on funnel to Select filter value I don't see all values which are displayed in query (I see only values from first cube). But when I write the value directly to filter, it is regulary selected. Also I can right click on value in query and set Select filter value, after that I see in filter block all values (from both cubes).
I tried to change all possible Business Explorer setting of infoobject ZSALES_RG (eg. Only values in infoprovider/ only posted...etc.). I also tried to change setting of navigation attribute (right click on nav. attribute in multiprovider - Provider-Specific Properties), but without success. SID table of infoobject contains all values which I need.
Do you have any hint how to see all used values in Select filter value?

Thank you for the response but we know how to set the value, the option is checked and the Select Filter Value still does not show on the context menu during execution. I think the issue is related to a default user exit variable that we use to pre-select a date but still want to be able to navigate and filter other characteristics during execution. There seems to be something to this combination that BW does not like.

Select Filter value for Hierarchy node taking long time

Dear Experts,
I am facing an issue with the Filter value selection in a BEx query and searched the forum for a solution but found none.
I have a free characteristic with hierarchy enabled for it and the Filter value selection at Query execution has been set to 'Values in Master data table' in the query definition and in the Multiprovider as well.
However, whenever the filter value selection is performed, the values are being read from teh underlying infocubes instead of the Master data.
We tried checking the BIA Index for the cube as well as the InfoObject and all is fine.
Can someone please point what might be going wrong here.

You can use the JavaScript function SAPBWSetFilterByCalendar to call up a calendar. When you select a value, the system filters the data characteristic for the specified DataProvider.
Parameters used are:
1) dataProvider: Logical name of the DataProvider
When the filter operation is only to be applied to a DataProvider, specify its logical name here.
2) dataProviderArray: Logical name of data provider
When the filter operation is to be applied to several data providers, specify their logical names here, for example, new Array (DP1,DP2,DP3)
3) iobjnm: Date characteristic
The system is to filter according to this characteristic.
4) displayDate (optional):Start date
Date the calendar displays when it appears. This parameter is optional. The date format has 4 characters for the year, 2 for the month and 2 characters for the day: YYYYMMDD

How to send the selected Filter values to a new template without JavaScript

Hello BW Experts,
can somebody tell me, how can i send two selected Values of two Dropdownlists to a new Template? and must i use JavaScript and hidden textelement?

Hi jing,
for this.... you need to take one pushbutton(button group.)
and in that button group properties... you need to assign the properties...
Internal display---> click on button check box > give the caption... and come down-> select command check box-> select All commands-> select last option(Command for web templates)
> click on that and and there you need to select SET Transfer state.---> and double click on that and there you need to give ur next template name... which will displays the analysys item..
press ok.. and save it...

Select the filter value display "No Entries Found"

Hi All,
I have a problem with the bex query. Query is built on a multiprovider.
I am using restricted key figure with constant selection checked for the characteristic that is available only in one cube.
Because of this when I right click and select Filter values on the free characteristics from the report, I get (No Entries Found)
If I remove constant selection from the key figure, report works fine.
Can someone help with a solution;

Assuming your data is coming from only one cube...
Drag 0INFOPROV in your Filter and restrict it with your your Cube
You can find 0INFOPROV in Dimensions under Data package

BW Loading filter values taking too much time

Hi
Loading filter values of characteristics from Bex taking more time (annoying users), for example for sales document types when wants to select filter values to loads couple of around 30 it is taking more than 3-4 minutes.
Infoobject -> Business explorer->Query Def. Filter Value Selection is "M" (values in master data table) is active. Please let me know any reasons for this performance problems? We are getting similar problems with almost all characteristics, we thought it is trying to read from info provider, though we indicated to read from master data table.

One better way could be
Infoobject -> Business explorer->Filter value Repr.At Query Execution = Dropdown box
As you have only few entries, this may not annoy users.

How to pass filter values to planning function in Integrated planning

Dear Experts,
I have a input ready query where the variables are filled with authorization objects by user. All variables are defined as multiple single values.
I created a workbook with 3 filter dropdown box - calmonth, company code and version (displayed as text). In the filter drop down box the user selects the company code, version and calmonth for planning. I would like to pass the selected filter values to a planning funciton. How can we pass these selected single filter values to a planning funciton?
Note: I am able to reference cells for variables that are not in filter (for eg: revaluation function with this document https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f0881371-78a1-2910-f0b8-af3e184929be).

If you do not want the from value be selected, and its already decided, then gofor restriction of values in filter than to the variable.

Help, select long list in ..select filer values

I have a doubt, in Portal, in one query, when I choose select filter values for one characterist (master data) and I look for Master data that begin with "Purchasing..*" I get the list and how can I pass this selection list to values (right side)??... this mean,... like in Bex Analyzer you click on the first value and click
Shift + Ctrl + End
but how abouyt web?.. how can I move this value list to rigyht side?
