Select Next Layer

Hi, im having some trouble with an action im writing. I have a group, with a layer mask applied to it and about 50 places images. I want to select the next later, Export and then the Next and so on. But the standard select next layer only select the next 'Group' and not the laters within that group! Any ideas?

Action, if its possible via an action. This is what im trying to do.
Current Layer - Make Visible (working)
Export as png (working)
Turn current layer visability off (working)
Select next layer below (these layers are in a group and masked at the group folder level)
At this point it selects the group below and not the layer below

hi big_smile, while you wait for someone to come up with a sneaky way to select a layer (activate a layer?) here are a couple of scripts you can drop in your default scripts folder and record those in your action...you know however that it won't survive a restart, you'll have to re-record the script playing part next time you start illustrator, but if you use it a lot it may be worth the trouble
activate the bottom layer
var idoc = app.activeDocument;
var bottomLayer = idoc.layers[idoc.layers.length-1];
idoc.activeLayer = bottomLayer;
activate the top layer
var idoc = app.activeDocument;

Action written in CS4 won't run correctly in Elements 11 - specif. the "selective color" layer

I created an action using Adobe Photoshop CS4, and it runs correctly in CS4. When I save and load the action into Elements 11, there is a problem with the selective color layer. The selective color layer shows up in the layer stack along with the expected message that it can't be edited b/c it was created in the full version of Photoshop. However, the layer itself does not have any color/changes in it.
In Photoshop, the selective color layer makes the photo look pink. When I run the action in Elements11,the selective color layer does absolutely nothing to the photo. I do have the eye turned "on" to view the layer, and it's set at the correct blending options & opacity (normal, 100%).
If I run the action in Photoshop, save the file with all the action-created layers, and reopen the file in Elements 11, THEN the selective color layer shows its correct pink color. But when I run the action as a stand-alone action in Elements11, it does not.
Can anyone offer help as to why this is happening? Is there something special I need to do to make the action work correctly in Elements 11? My understanding was that it should RUN and create the layers correctly, although some of them will not be editable in Elements11. However, as it stands, it is not creating them with the correct color.

You probaly need to record the action in a little different way in photoshop cs4 to get the selective color adjustment layer to work.
Try something like this:
1. In photoshop cs4 add an selective color adjustment layer, but don't do any adjustments and stop recording the action.
2. Undo the selective color adjustment layer and then double click on on the selective color adjustment layer step in the actions panel
and when the dialog opens set your adjustments and click ok.

How to create a selection or mask from a Selective Color layer

Hi. I was wondering if it is possible to get a selection/mask out of a Selective Color Layer.
For instance lets say I have a complicated photo and I put a Selective Color layer on. I then pick Red and start adjusting. I can see the effect and how it changes the red and how it falls off in the photo. Is it at all possible to create a selection or a mask based off of that effect?

You can try this. Once you get your selective color adjustment layer the way you like it, change it's blending mode to difference. Add a B&W adjustment layer above that then a curves or levels adjustment layer above that. Use the curves or levels adjustment layer to give the image more contrast by adjusting the top white values. This will produce an image that you can then make a selection from from the channel pallet.

Why is the keyboard shortcut for 'Select next input source' disabled when using Safari?

I'm using Safari 6.0.5 and am running 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro 13" from last year.
I've been using Chrome and Firefox heavily recently, but switched to Safari to give it a chance. It's really nice and lightweight, which suits me.
However, for some reason unbeknownst to me, the keyboard shortcut 'Select next input source' is disabled in Safari, in all windows/input methods.
Since I constantly switch input methods, this is incredibly frustrating.
It persists after quit + restart.
Any ideas?

Yes, just Safari. In Chrome, Firefox and all other applications it works as expected.

Is there any event listener for changing the selection of layer?

Hi all,
I am looking into an event listener which fires on changing the selection of layer. I found 'Select' event listener which fires on selecting the different object.
Actually the problem with Select event listener is that when we select an object and move it and deselect it by clicking on the document, event fires on the selection of that object. But if we again select the same object and move it, no event is fired at that time.
Is there any workaround of this? So that the event is fired every time when we select the same object.
Please help me on this..

Actually I want the same behaviour as in illustrator i.e
- Select a layer. (Notifier calls the listener)
- Move it.
- Click on the document.
- Again select the same layer. (Notifier calls the listener again)
- Move it.
But in photoshop,
- Select a layer. (Notifier calls the listener)
- Move it.
- Click on the document.
- Again select the same layer. (Notifier doesnot calls the listener again as the layer is already selected in panel as you explained.)
- Move it.
Is there any way to get the same behaviour of illustrator in photoshop?

Selecting a layer while importing an InDesign Document

Hello all,
Some how from previous post I found I would be able to manage layers of the imported document using IGrpahicLayerInfo. With this I am able to get the Layer name and its information. But not able to set the Layers visibility through command. The command is executed successfully but does not reflect in the document.
Please let me know if anyone has achieved this succesfully.

I also want it to not only select the layer on the actual project, but put a hashed line around it that allows me to resize it manually, without having to do it in another window. If you were serious to learn Photoshop, I'd advise you to take Photoshop classes at your nearest community college or some such institution, to take a subscription to lynda.com, to watch all the Photoshop videos at Adobe TV, to google for specific video tutorials on You Tube and for other tutorials in text format.
Even the Help menu in Photoshop can be a great starting place.
Don't expect to find in Photoshop the kind of hand-holding features that Elements has and that appeal to beginners and amateurs.

How can I select next page when on shopping website

When I'm on a shopping website, like BLoomingdales for example, I can't select next page or page 2. It only stays on the 1st page. Why is this?

How to fill a selection in Layer A with Layer B

Hi,
I've been using Photoshop on a hobby basis for 8 years and I have never figured out to accomplish what seems like this insanely simple task. How do I fill a selection in layer A with the contents of layer B?
To illustrate, right now I am trying to take a visor on a helmet and give it a broken glass effect. The image of the broken glass is suitable to be placed directly into the visor area of the helmet. I select the visor of the helmet with quick selection tool, and all I really need to do is use this selection to "cut out" an area of the same size and shape from my broken glass image and place it on top. However, I have no idea how to do this.
What would be the best practice in this situation?

One way to do this is to use the place command under the file menu to insert your broken glass image into your helmet image. Then you can position and size the broken glass image where you want it. Aftet than you can make your selection and use it to create a layer mask for the broken glass image.

JS CS4: Create variable for current layer then select the layer at the end of a script

I'm coming up blank with the verbiage and spinning my wheels with the OMV and script guide.

returns "object layer" and not the layer's name.

Does return the layer name I want but not by selection.
I'm challenged on how to select the layer.

The difference lies in that the [Object Layer] is the actual object, and the 'name' is just a property -- just like its color.
You can use one of these two approaches:
var myOriginalLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.item(0);
alert(myOriginalLayer.name);
will hold the original layer object, and you can see the name if required :-)
To re-select the layer, use
app.activeDocument.activeLayer = myOriginalLayer;
Alternatively, selecting by name goes like
var myOriginalLayerNAME = app.activeDocument.layers.lastItem().name;
app.activeDocument.activeLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.item(myOriginalLayerNAME);
I also noticed the following:
app.activeDocument.layers.item(0) points to the first layer of your document; not the 'active' one. Similarly, app.activeDocument.layers.lastItem() just points to the very last one. I'm not sure if the order of the activeDocument.layers array mimicks the order as shown in the Labels palette, but I would hope it does :-)
To get/set the active layer, use app.activeDocument.activeLayer as shown above.

Selecting color layer should select its mask

In older versions of Photoshop (at least until CS3), clicking on a solid color, gradient or pattern layer in the layer palette selected its mask. In CS5, it doesn't select the mask anymore.
This is inconsistent with the adjustment layer behavior, where the mask is automatically selected, and does not make sense since there is no "image" area that can be edited like normal layers.
It's a little thing but you can't believe how many time I got the "this layer must be rasterized" dialog box since moving to CS5.

OK. I see your point about the eyedropper. I guess I'll have to aim better.
The double border should appear around the Fill layer icon to indicate that it is selected. That would make it consistent with normal layers.
Personally, I would prefer if, when you click on the layer name in the Layers panel, the option that was previously selected for that layer would be selected again (layer color, layer mask or vector mask). If you want to change it, click on the appropriate icon.
On a related note, is there a way to add a vector mask without first adding a layer mask?

Selecting Default Applet Select Next Command

I have implemented and installed my Applet with default selectable privileges. Then when I send a select command with an AID that not is found in my card my application is selected.
The problem is when I send a select command and I response a FCI longer than the AID I have received, the JRCE tried to find another application and it responses 6A82. I want that when I received a select next command my default application is selected again. Is there some way to do it?

OK, the main problem is solved. I found the File > Create PDF > From Multiple Files... method, which at least solves this particular task (a lot better than the insert-page method). I'd still be interested in knowing if there's a way to get the dialog to default to the most-recently used folder, though, if it's still possible to do that.
