Select xmlelement not reurning data

All,
When I run the below query in toad I get 1 record:
select * from fnd_user
WHERE user_name ='MSPNARENB';
But, when I run the below query (trying to generate xml data) in toad I an getting null.
SELECT XMLElement( "user_name"
, user_name
FROM fnd_user
WHERE user_name ='MSPNARENB';
I am not sure what is wrong.
Please help me.

Most likely your Toad version doesn't handle XMLType datatype correctly.
Try serializing the result as CLOB explicitly :
SELECT XMLElement( "user_name"
               , user_name
               ).getClobVal() as result
FROM  fnd_user
WHERE user_name ='MSPNARENB';

    In Icloud on my imac I can't see my "numbers" icon which i need to select "tick" to transfer data to my other devices via icloud. any ideas why it's not showing up?

    You have to do it app wise, which means that the icon won't show up in settings, but you will be able to move files from your local drive to iCloud via the Numbers app (move... > choose the iCloud option).
    It requires that you set up the same iCloud account on all your devices and that you have the latest version of Numbers on all your devices as well.

  • Drop down selection is not refreshing the page data correctly

    I have a drop down menu for a CREATE DATE. The record is based on a Identification ID. This identification ID can be in our system for multiple CREATE DATES. The CREATE DATE drop down is populated by checking how many different CREATE DATES there are for a particular identification ID.
    The last identification ID looks great. It populates all the fields. However if you select an older CREATE DATE, the page does not get populated with that CREATE DATES data. The whole page even looks different. It looks like an older version of the page before I added all the new fields.
    What is causing the older CREATE DATES not to look like the current create date.
    Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you!!

    Thank you for your reply. Here are some details. Please let me know if I am not giving the information you need.
    One page item called CREATE_DATE displayed as a Select LIST with submit. The source type is a database column called ID_IDENT. The ID_IDENT is just a
    The List of Values is: Named LOV is the Select Named LOV. The list of values definition is a query against a table in our database:
    select CRE_DT, ID_IDENT from IDENT_TABLE where UNIQ_ID = :P3_UNIQ_ID
    ORDER BY CRE_DT DESC
    This is the date on which the ID_IDENT data was created. The date is displayed in a pull down menu, which allows you to select from a list of available "as of" dates when viewing the data. Only data on the most recent ID_IDENT record may be manually altered.
    I have a UNIQ_ID = '34587443'. It acutally has records in the database with that UNIQ_ID. The only difference is the create date. On record of 345778 was done on 10/1/2008 and the current date 10/13/2008.
    I see these two dates in the CREATE_DATE pull down menu. This is fine. The drop down orders the dates by DESC so I have the lastest date on top fo the pull down.
    If I want to pick the date of 10/1/2008, I need go into the web page, open the Create Date pull down and select the older date.
    When I pick the older date 10/1/2008, the page does not look the same as the defaul tor oldest time date and numbers.
    The page is different and most of the data on the webpage is there.
    What should have happened is that I choice the newer date from the drop down, the page refreshes with the data from 10/1/2008
    and all the parameters are displayed from the date of 10/1/2008. It isn't only part of the fields are being populated and the page itself doesn't refresh to the look of the original page. Thank you.

  • Selection in the Generic Data Source does not work

    Hi gurus,
    I have some problem with the selection in the Generic Data Source.
    I have created a view as a base of a Generic Data Source.
    This view is based on several table; i.e.: VBUK-VBELN (Sales Order number), VBAP-ERDAT (creation date of Sales Order), VBAP-POSNR (Sales order item), VBAK-BSTNK (Customer Purchase order number).
    In the view, some join conditions have been defined: VBUK-VBELN = VBAK-VBELN, VBUK-VBLN = VBAP-VBELN.
    I want to extract the Sales Order number, Sales order item and Customer Purchase order number for the Sales order created on the previous year.
    On the Generic Data Source, I select VBELN (Sales order number) and ERDAT (creation date of sales order) as selection.
    However, when I run the extractor checker (RSA3) on this Generic Data Source, the selection does not work at all, i.e.:
    eventhough I restricted the Sales order number and/or the creation date of sales order, the generic data source ignores the selection criteria and extract ALL data.
    Does anyone ever have similar problem? Did I miss some step in the Generic DAta Source creation? How to fix this problem?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Best regards,
    Fen

    Hi Fen,
    Just check what is the output you get for the same selection for the view you created.

  • Dimensions set to Selectable are not selectable w/in Smart View Data Forms

    When trying to use a data form by clicking "Select Form" in the Hyperion toolbar in Excel (not exporting from webspace), Dimensions that are defined as Selectable are not actually selectable within Smartview. Below is a portion of the script:
    BackgroundPOV=S#***.Y#***.w#***.V#***.I#***.C4#***
    SelectablePOVList=P{***}.E{***.[Base]}.C1{***.[Hierarchy]}
    Within the web, the form works fine and everything selectable is selectable. Within smart view, only Entity is selectable. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    I have found this and its generally because the dimension is referenced in the column
    i.e Year and period is displayed in the column.
    In HFM you can select the members from the POV but when opening in SmartView you can't
    Solution is to remove the dimension from the col or row.

  • Select (html option list) data not showing up on server

    Okay, I have a select option list, which is implemented as a list box, like so:
    <SELECT NAME="myList" MULTIPLE SIZE=10>...and I add stuff to this list, and it grows and grows, but then when I submit the form, no data comes over. Here's an example of what the HTML looks like before submitting:
    <OPTION VALUE="PW1868J76006">PW1868J76006 / Vane Segment W501G Row 1</OPTION>
    <OPTION VALUE="PW1868J73G01">PW1868J73G01 / Vane Segment W501G Row 3</OPTION>... and i have other form elements that get populated and the data makes it back and forth no prob. So I know that EVERYTHING is working fine except that when the form is populated (automagically via struts), it completely ignores the data in the list box.
    How can I capture this data?

    Why do you want all sent across ? Okay, I explained this above. You search for stuff, you get 100 results in a list box. Then you select say 10 of them and hit the ADD button which adds those 10 to a DIFFERENT list box. The list box you are adding to here represents the search results you care about. So you search, add some, search again, add some, etc. Finally, you submit and EVERYTHING in the 2nd list box should be sent to the server, because those represent the users' choices.
    What if the user
    selects only 2 (or 3). If you do want all sent
    across, maintain them in a session or something on
    the server, why bring it over to the browser ?TWhen they search, the submit happens and thier search results are lost unless I persiste them back and forth. Remember, it's not a single search, it's as many as they want. If I don't bring it to the browser, then how can they remove stuff if they change thier mind?
    OK, even if your requirements are such, you could
    write a script that selects all on submit which would
    ensure that all data does get through to the server.
    But then what if the user selected say 3 options and
    want only that to be 'selected' and not the whole set
    ? Your script would still cut in on submit and select
    all irrespective of user selection - the ui and the
    flow wouldnt be too intuitive, IMO.Good point!!! :-)

  • Selection formula not selecting by dates

    I'm having an odd problem with my report. I'm trying to filter by the start date of a job. The DB I'm pulling from stores it as a string, YYYMMDD (e.g. today is 20090713). In most of my reports it works just fine, but in this one it seems that it's ignoring the filter altogether.
    My original selection formula was:
    {JobMaster.StartDate} IN {?FromDate} to {?ToDate}
    In an effort to 'fix' it, I changed it to:
    DateSerial(ToNumber(Mid({JobMaster.StartDate},1,4)),ToNumber(Mid({JobMaster.StartDate},5,2)),ToNumber(Mid({JobMaster.StartDate},7,2))) >= DateSerial(ToNumber(Mid({?FromDate},1,4)),ToNumber(Mid({?FromDate},5,2)),ToNumber(Mid({?FromDate},7,2)))
    AND
    DateSerial(ToNumber(Mid({JobMaster.StartDate},1,4)),ToNumber(Mid({JobMaster.StartDate},5,2)),ToNumber(Mid({JobMaster.StartDate},7,2)))
        <= DateSerial(ToNumber(Mid({?ToDate},1,4)),ToNumber(Mid({?ToDate},5,2)),ToNumber(Mid({?ToDate},7,2)))
    I noticed that it even grabs jobs July, even if I pass the FromDate as 20080601 and ToDate as 20090601. The startdate I'm dealing with is 20090702.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Lain,
    Do the following :
    Create single Date parameter and in options allow range values true.  Now in your record selection you gie = {?Date}

  • Pro*c selecting XMLElement strangeness

    I've had a pro*c problem that I can't figure out. Hopefully, one of you might be able to do so. I am trying to create a XML output from a select statement. I having several problems, but the first one is that I can't get a simple XMLElement to work.
    Depending on how I do it, it either does not pre-compile or compiles - but does not work. Both queries work correctly in SQL*Plus.
    Pro*c Code >>>>>>>>>>>>
    EXEC SQL BEGIN DECLARE SECTION ;
    OCIClobLocator *xmltype_lob;
    EXEC SQL END DECLARE SECTION ;
    EXEC SQL ALLOCATE :xmltype_lob;

    SELECT XMLElement("eligVerification", dummy ).getClobVal() <--line 125

    if ( sqlca.sqlcode != 0 )
    fprintf (stderr, "Failed to get XML sqlca.sqlcode = %d\n" , sqlca.sqlcode ) ;
    fflush(stderr);
    exit ( EXIT_FAILURE ) ;

    This fails on the pre-compile:

    If I remove the .getClobVal(), the SELECT now looks like:

    SELECT XMLElement("eligVerification", dummy ).getClobVal()
    The syntax of this function call is wrong. XMLElement takes two parameters ("<NAME>", Identifier). You have added a call to GetClobVal(). You cannot do this!
    See how to use XMLElement here... http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/functions220.htm
    The second problem is a type mismatch in the data you are bringing back and the variable you are trying to store it in. Remember C and Oracle datatypes are not the same!

  • Select XMLElement - want some whitespace or newlines!

    Hi -
    I'm using XML SQL psuedo functions to make an XML document. It's making valid XML, but it's hideous to read. The SQL select is actually a select ... into in a PL/SQL function. Is there any way to force some newlines or spaces after the end tags, so the message would be more readable in a text editor?
    EXAMPLE:
    SELECT XMLElement("OBSERVATION-DATA",
         XMLAttributes('http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance' AS "xmlns:xsi",
              'C:\Documents and Settings\rmercer\My Documents\Rick\projects\LAPHIN\Maps\canonical_v2\canonical_lab_v3.xsd' AS "xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation"),
    XMLForest(
         XMLForest(
              c_SOURCEEXT     as "SOURCE-IDENT",
              c_SOURCEROOT     as "SOURCE-ROOT",
              c_SOURCEEXT     as "SOURCE-FACILITY-IDENT",
              c_SOURCEROOT     as "SOURCE-FACILITY-ROOT",
              ) as "SOURCE-INFORMATION", -- end of source info forest
         XMLForest(
              XMLConcat( XMLElement("PERSON-ID-NUMBER", MPERSON.PERSON_UID),
         ) -- end of main forest
         ) into v_OBSXML
    FROM nbs_msgine.msgin_person MPERSON,
    GIVES A REALLY LONG LINE OF OUTPUT:
    <SOURCE-INFORMATION><SOURCE-IDENT>LABCORP</SOURCE-IDENT><SOURCE-ROOT>999.5.1.2.1</SOURCE-ROOT><SOURCE-FACILITY-IDENT>LABCORP</SOURCE-FACILITY-IDENT><SOURCE-FACILITY-ROOT>999.5.1.2.1</SOURCE-FACILITY-ROOT><RECVR-IDENT>LADOH</RECVR-IDENT><RECVR-ROOT>999.5.1.1.5</RECVR-ROOT><RECVR-FACILITY-IDENT>LADOH</RECVR-FACILITY-IDENT><RECVR-FACILITY-

    The SQL/XML functions do not pretty-print for performance reasons. Over a large document the amount of additional white space generated by pretty printing can be quite expensive.
    There is a very simple way of forcing a pretting print
    As can be seen in the example below the output is not pretty printed. It's technically correct but difficult to read.
    SQL> select xmlElement
    2 (
    3 "Country",
    4 xmlElement("Name",c.COUNTRY_NAME),
    5 xmlAgg
    6 (
    7 xmlElement
    8 (
    9 "Department",
    10 xmlElement("Name", d.DEPARTMENT_NAME),
    11 ( select xmlAgg
    12 (
    13 xmlElement
    14 (
    15 "Employee",
    16 xmlForest(e.FIRST_NAME as "FirstName", e.LAST_NAME as "LastName")
    17 )
    18 )
    19 from HR.EMPLOYEES e
    20 where e.DEPARTMENT_ID = d.DEPARTMENT_ID
    21 )
    22 )
    23 )
    24 ) as XML
    25 from HR.COUNTRIES c, HR.DEPARTMENTS d, HR.LOCATIONS l
    26 where l.COUNTRY_ID = c.COUNTRY_ID
    27 and d.LOCATION_ID = l.lOCATION_ID
    28 and c.COUNTRY_NAME = 'Canada'
    29 group by c.COUNTRY_NAME
    30 /
    <Country><Name>Canada</Name><Department><Name>Marketing</Name><Employee><FirstNa
    me>Michael</FirstName><LastName>Hartstein</LastName></Employee><Employee><FirstN
    ame>Pat</FirstName><LastName>Fay</LastName></Employee></Department></Country>
    In order to get pretty printed output we need to force a print & parse. It should be remembered that this is fairly expensive and so should only be done when debugging out etc. It can be done by adding .extract('/*') to the output of the outermost SQL/XML operator.
    Eg
    SQL> select xmlElement
    2 (
    3 "Country",
    4 xmlElement("Name",c.COUNTRY_NAME),
    5 xmlAgg
    6 (
    7 xmlElement
    8 (
    9 "Department",
    10 xmlElement("Name", d.DEPARTMENT_NAME),
    11 ( select xmlAgg
    12 (
    13 xmlElement
    14 (
    15 "Employee",
    16 xmlForest(e.FIRST_NAME as "FirstName", e.LAST_NAME as "LastName")
    17 )
    18 )
    19 from HR.EMPLOYEES e
    20 where e.DEPARTMENT_ID = d.DEPARTMENT_ID
    21 )
    22 )
    23 )
    24 ).extract('/*') as XML
    25 from HR.COUNTRIES c, HR.DEPARTMENTS d, HR.LOCATIONS l
    26 where l.COUNTRY_ID = c.COUNTRY_ID
    27 and d.LOCATION_ID = l.lOCATION_ID
    28 and c.COUNTRY_NAME = 'Canada'
    29 group by c.COUNTRY_NAME
    30 /
    <Country>
    <Name>Canada</Name>
    <Department>
    <Name>Marketing</Name>
    <Employee>
    <FirstName>Michael</FirstName>
    <LastName>Hartstein</LastName>
    </Employee>
    <Employee>
    <FirstName>Pat</FirstName>
    <LastName>Fay</LastName>
    </Employee>

    1. Please read the posting guidelines Announcement. It is much more polite to provide a script to set up your sample data then simple typing in values, since this saves the person who is taking the time to solve your problem from having to create said..
    eg
    SQL> create table XBRL_ITEMS

  • SSRS 2008 Column Chart with Calculated Series (moving average) "formula error - there are not enough data points for the period" error

    I have a simple column chart grouping on 1 value on the category axis.  For simplicity's sake, we are plotting $ amounts grouping by Month on the category axis.  I right click on the data series and choose "Add calculated series...".  I choose moving average.  I want to move the average over at least 2 periods.
    When I run the report, I get the error "Formula error - there are not enough data points for the period".  The way the report is, I never have a guaranteed number of categories (there could be one or there could be 5).  When there is 2 or more, the chart renders fine, however, when there is only 1 value, instead of suppressing the moving average line, I get that error and the chart shows nothing.
    I don't think this is entirely acceptable for our end users.  At a minimum, I would think the moving average line would be suppressed instead of hiding the entire chart.  Does anyone know of any workarounds or do I have to enter another ms. connect bug/design consideration.
    Thank you,
    Dan

    I was having the same error while trying to plot a moving average across 7 days. The work around I found was rather simple.
    If you right click your report in the solution explorer and select "View Code" it will give you the underlying XML of the report. Find the entry for the value of your calculated series and enter a formula to dynamically create your periods.
    <ChartFormulaParameter Name="Period">
                      <Value>=IIf(Count(Fields!Calls.Value) >= 7 ,7, (Count(Fields!Calls.Value)))</Value>
    </ChartFormulaParameter>
    What I'm doing here is getting the row count of records returned in the chart. If the returned rows are greater than or equal to 7 (The amount of days I want the average) it will set the points to 7. If not, it will set the number to the amount of returned rows. So far this has worked great. I'm probably going to add more code to handle no records returned although in my case that shouldn't happen but, you never know.
    A side note:
    If you open the calculated series properties in the designer, you will notice the number of periods is set to "0". If you change this it will overwrite your custom formula in the XML.
